  1. I hope we eventually get some animation customization for weapons. I have a War Mace tanker, and the animations are pretty much all re-used to some extent with Axe and Broad Sword. Makes it harder for me to play my alts with those powersets.

Not sure if that makes a difference for you or not. I prefer the smashy feel of War Mace, but I don't think the difference in performance is too drastic, or something that should affect your decision. The minimal differences have been listed already: I'd go with how the set feels to you and what sounds like more fun.

*points at sig* That's why one of my four rules of tanking is for Tanks to get in the mob fast and first. No need to be hanging back, and they do their job best if they're getting in there first.

I tend to keep that philosophy a little too much on my other characters, too. I've been known to bite off more than I can chew with my Blasters, though my Earth/Storm Controller can mitigate as well as my tanks.

    WP Def

You probably don't need to completely cap. Sure, it'd be nice, but with high defenses, Tough, +HP, and good regen, it might be overkill. I have had to fall back with my WP tanker that isn't defense capped, but that was usually after everyone else on the team dropped from fighting multiple mobs of vengeance-stacked Nemesis or multiple Rularuu mobs. Other than those rare occurrences, he's able to take a lot of mobs fighting him (and he was okay in those other instances after he was able to use Heal Self out of sight).

True, though if you have your difficulty ramped up a bit, the missions with ambushes can be a little rough. And you still want to be careful of how they can debuff you (and you want to stay out of melee with them). You don't want to treat them lightly at all.

I know for a fact that Shadow Maul has been critting ever since Scrappers got access to it as an inherent. Very few people actually notice it for the exact reasons given above (assuming you don't trust the real numbers). I doubt most Scrappers notice when they crit on any AoE, much less one that throws up 8 damage numbers before the crit.

You're assuming some incredibly back luck if you've somehow never gotten a Shadow Maul crit and been using it for any reasonable period of time. Chances are substantially better that they've happened, but you've never noticed them (unless you want to make the claim that you're somehow incapable of not seeing a crit amidst a really chaotic fight). At best, you've simply learned to kill targets with the first 2-3 ticks of Shadow Maul so they've never survived to check the crit, but, even then, I find it more likely that they've happened but you just haven't noticed them (because, honestly, how likely is it that you've never left a survivor from a Shadow Maul).
This. It's possible to not get the crit or to miss it, but it does happen.

While we're on Shadow Maul, do procs in the power also fire at the end? I tend to avoid putting procs into DoTs because they seem to usually fire off at the end, and I'd rather have the effect kick in right away. Wondering if that suspicion is founded in reality (I seem to recall knowing from somewhere, like Incinerate).

I think when they upped the Stalker base HP, they didn't also raise the cap, which doesn't help with some buffs and powersets that can increase HP (and are supposed to benefit from those abilities).

But yeah, other than that I find Stalkers to be quite fun. I haven't really branched out from my Nin/Nin yet, but I do like playing him.
  8. Oh well, out of luck for my Blaster, then. I suppose AVs/EBs need to be tough, but I was hoping I could maybe build my Blaster up to it. I'm just having far too much fun with knockback right now. I was knocking Outcasts back about half a block the other night while waiting for a Posi TF to start up, and it was far too fun.

    Thanks for the help, everyone.

You don't think Shadow Maul can crit? It does crit... I have seen it on my Scrapper many times. It's always kind of goofy when it happens, as I'm expecting to need a new attack, and all of a sudden the foe I'm targeting drops. The real numbers in game has it noted as well, so it should be working.

I haven't played him in a couple months, so if it has stopped working, that should be a bug.

Yup, shout out on those channels and people will join in (unless it's late at night or early in the day). People are generally wanting to play their villains, so a lot of people hop in if you say you're looking for more.

That's what I was wondering: how much is it? I thought maybe the PToD were the same for all of them in this regard, so I was wondering what the bar was that I needed to get over (or if it's completely unfeasible).
  12. I've always enjoyed Energy/Energy Blasters (I've started one more than once, then deleted them for one reason or another... mostly from matters of theme or slot room on my server), and I am now leveling one up to level 50. Finally found a concept for the character that makes it fly for me, heh.

Anyway, I'm focusing on using knockback for mitigation with this guy as much as possible. I know some mobs resist it, but it seems like most of my tools should knockback normal foes (as long as it hits, etc.). However, I am curious to find out if you can knockback Elite Bosses or AVs. I like being able to solo with my characters, and it would be nice to be able to do this. Is there a certain magnitude needed where you can knock them back, or are they basically immune to it, like holds, etc.?

I can do without it, as I have soloed most of the EBs in game with other blasters that did not attempt to hold or knock back these foes, but it would still be kind of fun. I also seem to recall someone posting that they kept knocking back Snaptooth while they were fighting him, so it seems like it should be possible.

Eh, it can happen from time to time. There have been a few times where the team has been behind me consistently, and all of a sudden they're no longer there when I hit another mob, making me wonder where they ended up (usually they decided to go after another mob). It's really only a problem if it happens consistently. Most good teams will have someone good starting them out on each mob, and then you can remain cohesive (though I've learned to check my maps for what teammates are doing from time to time).

And I would also say that a good Tank or alpha soaker should be running off before a mob is finished off. That way, you can round up the next mob and have them nice and ready for when the next team shows up. The last 1-2 survivors don't generally need the whole team's attention.

Usual solutions to the problem you mentioned is to suggest a strategy. Most people like having a strategy and respond well to suggestions. If they get annoyed, it's a surefire sign that they're not going to be a great teammate, anyway.

I also have characters on Freedom, which is as clogged with humanity as ever, and Virtue, which if anything seems to have increased its population over the last year or so.

Maybe there are servers out there that have suffered some sort of catastrophic population die-off, but the ones I play on are doing great.
Most problems seem to be people not using server channels (mostly out of ignorance). I've pointed that out in many threads over the past couple years, and even made sure to add a "Welcome to Victory" thread to help out people with those on my home server.

When most people find out about those, the problem is almost always solved.
  15. People have kind of pointed out in other threads that a Scrapper Primary set that is weaker than some of the other sets is sitting very pretty. Scrappers in general do not need really need work, and each of their primaries offers good variety and performance. I can think of other sets that need a look more (I'm interested to see what Fiery Aura gets, for one).

Sure, I suppose it could use some tweaks. I'm fine with those tweaks as long as it keeps the flavor of the set. I don't want the KB removed from Crane Kick (that's a big part of the power's appeal when used right) and I like the stuns. If tweaks can keep the set working with the some feel, I'm fine with that.

Still, I like Martial Arts and think it's a great set. No need to avoid playing it now at all.
  16. Heh. I never quite understand why people are so nervous about it. It's great, as you get to choose what you want to run, and you can copy and paste messages easily enough to shout out in the server channels, send tells to people not on a team that you find in search, etc.

There really isn't that much work involved, and even if you're nervous about strategy, you can have the star and let other people take the lead there (most seem to be less nervous about giving advice- ha!).

True, there are nights where I don't want to work at all and just jump in on something, but that's why it's nice when a lot of people are willing to lead. You all get breaks at some point.
  17. Recharge is what you want most in the power. The defense amounts are never going to be that huge from just 1-2 mobs, while the amount of endurance you do pick up is fairly large. You mostly want to fire it off in the largest group posible.

I'd also keep in mind whatever set you are wanting to slot in there. I went with Red Fortune myself (recharge bonus on top of the recharge the set offers), but there are plenty of options out there for you.

    Sooooo I18

EB, just realize that they don't have to bring out a new Issue at the same time: they could just bring out a new expansion, after all. If this were a regular Issue, I would agree that it's a little small/dry. But it's not, it's an Issue coming out at the same time as an expansion.

Comparing I18 to I6 is just going to come down to your preferences with what is in each of them... and as I said earlier, we don't really know how everything is going to work with I18 yet.

They call it hard, I call it a temp power fest. To each his own though, I'm still gonna run the thing, but so far it's meh in my book.
Ele... have you done this version of the CoP? Are you breaking the NDA like Mental? Or are you just assuming it will be like the old version (I don't have a clue what the old one was like... it came out when I wasn't playing the game for a little over a year and was gone before I came back)?

My point before was that it's kind of hard to judge how great this CoP is going to be before we play it. It read to me like you were assuming knowledge you can't have (or shouldn't admit to having, heh).

You know, if they were going to release I18 info at this point, you would think they would have waited to announce the market stuff until now. That would have spruced this message up for a lot of people.

Or were there leaks from Closed Beta that they were trying to address?

Are you using the server's communication channels to find teams? That's how pretty much everyone does it now on every server (and have done it for the past few years), which was less the case four years ago, I think. Check my greeting thread stickied toward the top of our Victory section, it'll fill you in on finding and forming teams on Victory.

And there are a LOT of people playing. TFs and mission teams running all the time if you look on the channels. And there are always people looking for a team... people are oftentimes reluctant to be a team leader, so it's easy to form a team with so many people sitting on their hands.

Heh, I swear, if I had a nickel for every time I've heard people say "is something starting? Is there a TF going?" I'd be a rich man.

Anyway, I assume we'll see a population spike with Going Rogue, but there are plenty of people about right now. Join in the fun.

That's what I like the most about GR. Scourge seems to make Corruptors play better for me than Defenders (even though Vigilance just got a revamp), so I might actually try Archery and Trick Arrows again blueside. I've had plans for an Elec/Elec Brute running mostly heroside since news about GR came out.

Assuming Electric Control gets a Dominator version, that might be fun as well (I like Controllers, but hate how you really have to team until you get pets... and I do like having the option to solo when needed).

So yeah... GR is about more than just those 1-20 levels, even if MG is right and that's all the mission type content we get with GR.

Dude... you haven't even played it yet, or heard what's in there. It might suck, of course, but it's kind of hard to say one way or the other at this point. Ruladaak or however you spell it makes a lot of sense, too, since that's his "Destroyer" aspect, right? Seems to fit the theme of Cathedral of Pain.

Personally, I don't mind that it seems to have been moved away from base raiding. I'm probably never going to get that into PvP and would rather see a unique encounter like this go for PvE. Mean, I know, but if they were going to keep it with PvP, they would want to keep working on the tweaks to that stuff first, which would push the CoP back farther, etc.

MG, you need to stop breaking the NDA... NCSoft doesn't like that!
  24. Scientist, if you're worried about the ITF, try running the Cimerora wall solo for a bit. It's not quite as rough as the mobs in ITF (there aren't usually bosses there), but that will give you some idea of how you're doing. You can also run those repeatable missions at different difficulty levels.

Still, as others have said, you will generally have support, so that will just give you an idea of how well you will do when the stuff hits the fan. Anyway, even though the Romans do have defense debuff, it does help to have defenses with them. Even a few less hits at the start can make a difference (defenses also help against all the cyst mobs). Also, getting a good amount of recharge so Healing Flames is up as fast as possible is a good idea.

Also... Tough goes a long way against the Romans. You can get up to about 70% resist to S/L, rather than staying at about 50%.

Feel free to check out my guide to Fire/Fire in my sig, too. There are a few builds in there that might get you thinking about what to do more, even though I went with Pyre for my Ancillary with all of them.
  25. I'm an altholic, so I can bring just about anything that's needed.

Still... Grey Pilgrim, my Fire/Fire Tanker is my most played character and I keep playing him on teams and solo (and he's the closest thing I have to a badger). He'll be the first one to try out the new endgame content... and any new content, for that matter. He's just incredibly versatile, and he's the only character that I've bothered creating a dual build for.

The ones that come closest are my Martial Arts/Regen Scrapper, Earth/Storm Controller, and my Nin/Nin Stalker. Next up are all my blasters... they're good fun (Electric Knight is right... E^3 is awesome).
