Putting the cape back on!

Hey everyone on Victory, been about a year since I've played this game and it feels like an eternity! Just wondering if the population of the game has increased, decreased, or stayed the same in the past year and if it is actually worth me re-activating both my accounts, not just for Going Rogue but for the whole CoX experience that I missed so much. Thanks a ton guys and it feels good to be back!

hasn't quite increased yet... Victory Badges 2009 is the more commonly used channel now (in addition to Victory Badges and Victory Forum)

As far as I know, as least with those who I associate with, there are a lot of people breaking for now, waiting for GR, playing on rare occasions or just hopping on to check their WW bids (myself included).

For the majority of the server, however, I imagine things haven't really changed since you left.
Besides Tiny C graduating, but whatever.

welcome back, btw.

Welcome back! There is a sticky posted on Victory about the channels and finding teams.

Welcome back. People are the same, and the population seems the same to me; it depends on how much you rely on random searches, channels, SGs, etc. Game is pretty much the same as always, just little bits here and there that make it less annoying and give you more stuff to kill time with. Except the lag; that's just getting worse

I've already forgotten about most of you

Really? Lag has almost disappeared for me.

Since I17, zoning into zones/missions take far longer and a lot of the time, not at all; I time out a lot now in these transitions, teamed or solo. While in missions, I don't really have any issue except for the usual maps (arachnos mainly.)

And in most zones, just while traveling to and fro, I'll bog down for large chunks of time and people will see me just floating in the air as I'm waiting for the graphics/info to parse along to me. It's worse in water areas.

Yeah my machine isn't beefy anymore but the graphics hit has been beyond noticeable *shrug*

I believe two problems were caused with I17. First, I think Ultra mode did have an effect on graphics processing even if you have your settings turned down. Second, ambient noise adds to the zone's load. I noticed specifically that when I time out on loading into a zone, it's always right before the large dump of ambient noise pushes through. If I clear that hurdle then I'm generally free and clear if there's not a major zone event. Intriguingly, areas with a large amount of water usually run the smoothest for me but I also have water settings way down.

I've everything turned on high, and the load is slow every now and then, but when it is, it effects the entire team. So i know that it's nothing locally causing the issue, it's either a server load issue, or a network load issue. My guess is that it's a network load issue due to the high overhead caused by the improved graphics. I'm sure they have beefy servers that can handle the instance loading since they've had 6 years to test and improve the process, whereas the Ultra Mode is new and has not gone through the trials of 6 years of abuse.

I just came back to the game after 4 years off. The population really seems to have died. Where once everything was crowded with toons popping around everywhere, I barely see anyone. Is this just because people are taking a break for the next expansion or are only the die hards left?

Are you using the server's communication channels to find teams? That's how pretty much everyone does it now on every server (and have done it for the past few years), which was less the case four years ago, I think. Check my greeting thread stickied toward the top of our Victory section, it'll fill you in on finding and forming teams on Victory.

And there are a LOT of people playing. TFs and mission teams running all the time if you look on the channels. And there are always people looking for a team... people are oftentimes reluctant to be a team leader, so it's easy to form a team with so many people sitting on their hands.

Heh, I swear, if I had a nickel for every time I've heard people say "is something starting? Is there a TF going?" I'd be a rich man.

Anyway, I assume we'll see a population spike with Going Rogue, but there are plenty of people about right now. Join in the fun.

Heh. I never quite understand why people are so nervous about it. It's great, as you get to choose what you want to run, and you can copy and paste messages easily enough to shout out in the server channels, send tells to people not on a team that you find in search, etc.

There really isn't that much work involved, and even if you're nervous about strategy, you can have the star and let other people take the lead there (most seem to be less nervous about giving advice- ha!).

True, there are nights where I don't want to work at all and just jump in on something, but that's why it's nice when a lot of people are willing to lead. You all get breaks at some point.
