  1. Wait, what? End issues on an Elec/Elec Brute? You can probably make a build without Stamina now, and that's even more possible after I16's addition of Energize. I may still get Stamina for just in case situations, but I'm not sure.
  2. +1 for Lousy Day! I can haz picture of Statesman? Squeee!
  3. Here's the problem with farming and dealing with it. No matter what, there will people that try to min/max in an unintended way. It ticks me off how many missions in the late 40s are timed defeat alls... it gets tedious. And getting tells to pad, etc. was even more annoying.

Unlike the farming in AE, being able to pad out your own mission gets farming more "off the street." Sure, it's still going on, but it doesn't have as negative an impact on the game. And frankly, people farming Dev created missions is better than AE, as it let's the really good player created stuff stand out more.

And I wouldn't be too pessimistic: the devs do work on bugs and tweaking features. I do rather wonder if they're ever going to tweak some of the old TFs a bit... they really should. Same with some of the old story arcs, just to give them a bit more flavor. I think missions in Faultline, Croatoa, and Striga are just fine... most of the stuff showing its age and less "skill" (as in being a fun, memorable mission) are some (and only some) of the missions in the game originally.

I am somewhat hopeful that it will happen at some point, if nothing else than that they do have competition out there, and they're even doing things like adding new animations to old powersets. This is something I was once assured by other players that "they would never do," as they're too focused on making new shinies. New shinies are nice, but improving the base you have to work on is always a good idea, which is why I always wish to see additions to everything with expansions (new maps and tilesets, new animations, new powers, new missions, etc.). Probably too much to hope for with each one, I know, but I hope for most of them to be covered... I do wish I16 had some new content, but it's got a pretty good base. And it's hard to wish for more with all that customization... that's more options for everyone, not just "some" people like AE was.
  4. Dev and Community Digest are now back and have their own separate sections in the forums. Yay! Figured people would want to know after comments here and in-game. BAB is a bug tracking fool with I16, I love it.

I like playing with everybody in Isos, and am sad when anyone stops. Plus, we need more grumpy "old" men like MG.

Hmmmm, this is shaping up into the Isos of Defenders and Controllers. Well Des and Scooter be alone in running a Scrapper or Tanker? Yikes!
  6. Frankly, I'm amazed that the devs have put up with it for so long. Though a lot of things about the engine are rather clunky (for adjusting, etc.), it sounds like. I hope they're working on it, though, as well as more maps and map types... that'd help things a lot.

Yeah, if I'm understanding the changes right, this is going to crimp the boss farms, but also make it more annoying for story writers. I know I made the end boss of my story arc a custom boss, and he's the only one in his "group." Now I'll have to add more to his group so he rewards properly, but I'm not sure how we'll he'll spawn because of it (I had major issues making it all work). Not sure how well it will go, but I'll see, I guess. They still need to make AE work better for selecting specific spawn points (heck, even a spawning reliably in the back would be good... I've noticed normal Dev missions seem to have the same issue, as I've been finding the glowie on the first floor, which can't be intended on a four floor map), and for boss encounters: I was a bit annoyed that I couldn't have my unique boss spawn in an ambush reliably. *sighs*

Energize sounds great... I wish it had stayed at the 90s recharge I remember, but having that every 60 seconds or so after slotting won't be too bad. Might be able to not have Stamina on my elec/elec character once I pick up Energize and Power Sink.

Yeah, there is a point where enough is enough... how many powers do we need? Heh.
  10. I picked up Ignite in the 30s to use on AVs (on teams... EBs chase me over the map as I leap about, shooting them constantly, heh), and then finally to pair up with Cryo Freeze Ray at 44.

We'll see how much I like it (my Blaster is at 41)... I may dump both for Sniper Rifle if Ignite proves too situational, even with Cryo. I still run into times that I'd love to have a Snipe, and it sounds cool, heh.
  11. Hehe. Indeed, we all DO have to do what Voo wants. MG says so.

Which is now (at the start of closed beta, not sure how many changes there were, if any) a heal, along with a regen and recovery boost... I think on a 60 second timer. Anyone know what it is now, or if this changed? I hope not, but I don't want to assume
  14. *blinks* Yikes, some people are getting a tad defensive. The point of having a level range is to keep the teaming easier and possible to put together. Depending on the level ranges, it can make the fighting more difficult, make SKs not possible, and forming teams harder. It's not huge, but it DOES help some, and maintain the idea of this being a once a week group... otherwise, it just tosses the concept to the four winds.

Sure, sometimes people leave early or miss, and they have to catch up. No worries, it happens (and obviously, I am one of those that needs to catch up fairly often). And if you're playing longer and past where most people in the group are, is it really that big a deal to turn off xp and get more influence? Seriously, you'd think I was telling people to not have fun or something. If you're still planning on playing the last couple weeks of Isos, too, it's the same as having turned off your xp for those times you were higher. And if you're planning on not coming because you're at 50... that kind of proves my point.

Anyway, there is a logic to having a level range, and it's not that hard to stick with, is it? I didn't realize it was seen as some kind of draconian policy to, well, play with the group you signed up with, you know? Not sure how a question about group unity turned into me somehow being selfish, either.
  15. Wait, so if you were able to pay $200 up front, you would be playing CO, but since it's $15 up front now, you won't? I realize it *could* be a savings, but only if you're on for over a year... you might be better off if you get tired of it in a month or two. And I'm still not sure how playing CO and COH at the same time means you couldn't have done Wednesday nights with Isos.

I wonder what math they used to decide what amount of lifetime subs was okay, and what line made it too much? I would have to think almost any number is a best guess on their part, but I'm no accountant/economic whiz. Still, while I know lifetime subs are an attempt to draw people in and get them interested, it still feels like the developer saying they don't have confidence in their product. I know there are stats showing that most players of an MMO drop out after less than a year, but that's still my gut feeling on it, especially after how long I know some people have played MMOs like CoX.
  16. No need to be pushed by every wave of advice, Nin. Take everything people are saying into account, of course, but adjust as you want, as there are a lot of approaches you can take. Flamethrower is nice, but you might want it after Stamina, as it is an end heavy attack. You might want Beanbag for taking out an annoying mob (like a Sorceror) before Stamina. Or you might find the AOE blast of Buckshot, M30, and Flamethrower to be dead useful as soon as possible.

Kind of depends on how much you're soloing, how much you're teaming, and what you are wanting as you play.

Sure, some things are obvious changes, like not slotting Total Focus for Stun, but you do have a lot of options. Have fun!
  17. I should be there, hopefully we'll have a good turnout.

Is there a reason the target level is 48 and we had a fair amount of people hitting 50 last week? It is possible to turn off xp, people. Run your own stuff if you want, but just turn off the xp if you're farther than everyone else. It's a bit silly for the whole group to be this far apart with all these options available to us.

Eh, not that big a deal, I know, but it's nicer to have people in the same range about.
  18. Some encounters, like Cimerorans and Praetorian Robots, will have a lot of defense debuff. But that doesn't mean everything in game will get you like that, either, and any defense is something they have to hit through first. It's why some people go for high Smash/Lethal, I'm sure... the Cims have to hit you first to debuff you, after all.

At any rate, it's a bit more survivability against a lot of def debuffs (running the Cim wall solo, I have gotten lucky and had most of a first volley miss, which helps), and a lot more against anything that doesn't have those debuffs. It's worth getting, and I notice it when Weave is on or off. If anything, it's really worth it on these resist only sets, as it layers your mitigation, upping your survivability. Sure, a Fire/Fire with defense to everything at 22% or even Smash/Lethal at 45% won't be as good as an Invuln at the def cap, but it still adds a lot for a Fire/Fire. And I'm sure most Invulns wish they had a heal up every 20 seconds that you could reliably fire mid-fight. I know I miss it on mine.
  19. Things do feel buried and less of an "event" without an individual point. Weird, I suppose, but that's how it feels.
  20. Yeah, whenever I'm in Nova, I wish I had more ranged defense (at least solo). Same thing for Dwarf... I really like having defense on my blasters and tanks, so it's kind of a habit of mine. But with a triform PB, it seems like pushing a round peg in a square hole... too many powers would get underslotted, as hardly any of mine have 6 slots (I think I have 2): I made an IO build that does well with less. As it is, I still have powers I'd like to slot more. And going for defense would cut down on all the recharge bonuses I've found, and +recovery and HP.

I probably just need to stop wishing for it on top of all the great things I already have, heh. I've managed to squeeze in more +recharge than I have with any other hero, after all, and without tapping into Purple sets.

Seems like an all human WS could do great with a good amount of AOE and Ranged defense, and have the slots for it. Or am I wrong in thinking that?

Anyway, if there is anyone that thinks it'd work for a tri-form PB, let me know.
  21. If you want a more resilient tank, Weave is a worthwhile pick. It was noticeable before IOs to pick up Combat Jumping and Weave, so it'll help. Defense let's some of the debuffs you run into miss, as well as damage.

Going for defense above that from IO sets is also worthwhile. A lot more worthwhile than just having Combat Jumping and Weave, I'd say. Your call after that.
  22. Not sure if you meant to do it, but you slotted Total Focus with a stun set, not damage. That boyo is a huge damage attack, and you want it doing max damage when you do use it (I have a set of Mako's in it for the Ranged defense, though I hate its lower damage numbers). It might also be worth grabbing Bone Smasher, as that's a fast, high damage melee attack. I'll usually knock stuff on its keester from range and then leap in, pummeling whatever is left with Bone Smasher and Total Focus.

You can also see how you do, but you may not need Conserve Power. I only have Stamina two-slotted on my blaster (along with the Atlas Medallion, and some recovery and endurance bonuses), and he does fine, even when he's really unloading in teams. Some people like to have a large margin, though, I know. At any rate, have fun with it... it's a really visceral, fun combo.
  23. No Voo, sad.

But, we do get Mental! Stop toying with our heartstrings, Mental! Hmmm, Champions site is still down today... wonder what happened.

As for me, I want to run in the next with you all, but I am once again not sure when I'll be on CoX. My current subscription runs out on the 3rd, which is next Thursday. I don't get my first paycheck until a couple more weeks into September, so it might be until then. Or later.

At any rate, I'll try to get in on the next Isos with my Sonic/Sonic Defender, The Golden Howler (previous connection to the Goldbrickers, yes). He's sitting at 12, so hopefully I can exemp him down for the first session (if I'm around), and then follow normally. He's got some fun powers, a good concept, and I like debuffing resistance, so it should be a safe bet for a fun Defender. One of them has to stick at some point, heh.

    Ha! Too true.

Anyway, to the OP, just a couple of thoughts for you. M30 Grenade is a good power... you can use it first, then Buckshot to get most of a mob on its back, which is nice. It takes out a solid chunk of their health and keeps you more safe. If I'm going to use Full-Auto, I usually start with M30, since it has the same range and can KB some foes that might return fire during Full Auto. You can use both to drop pretty much every minion in a mob, unless they're lethal resistant. Even if they are, they'll be close to dead and easy to mop up.

I know some one shot down Stun earlier, but I disagree. Total Focus takes a long time to animate (well, 1.5 seconds longer than Stun), during which a boss has more time to fire off an attack. Also, you're generally not going to be slotting Total Focus for stun duration... if you want a boss stunned for longer than 12 seconds, things are going to be tricky. You'll also lose it if you exemp below 38, and there are plenty of things to do below that. There are also some good stun sets: Stupefy is nice if you're wanting more recharge and ranged defense.

You can make it work better with Power Boost, of course, but I preferred to get just Boost Range on my Blaster. Either setup is viable, depending on what you want, just figured I would lay out the pros and cons.

And up to you about grabbing Super Speed... you might be able to make the concept work just by using sprint and some run speed enhancements somewhere, though using hurdle with combat jumping/super jump fits quite well for the power armor in the book. I just say that as taking two travel powers always feels a bit wasteful to me: I always have a lot more powers I want to get. Hasten is also dropable: you can go for more recharge in your sets and still get plenty of recharge that way. I don't have it in my build, and Full Auto is up in 33 seconds. Plenty often, and you have other good powers in your build, too.

Lastly, take out the Thunderstrikes from Beanbag, and grab a stun set of some sort. Most will give recovery at 2 slots as well, and you'll be improving the power more. If you're going to use Beanbag (which you will), you'll want it for the stun, not its damage. Getting more than 2 slots can be a good idea as well, but it's up to you.

Heh, in all seriousness, I'm rather flabbergasted by how many students at my University smoke. They gripe about tuition, rent, and textbook prices, while they maintain an EXTREMELY expensive habit. Probably even more so than the unfortunate alcohol and caffeine habits many of them have.
