  1. Thankfully, after Saturday there will be a lot fewer potential zombies to worry about.

Extremely well done. Should there be future issues of Rogue, I'll enjoy perusing their contents.

Positron's posted and said that they believe they've found the cause of the lag (something weird they did with leagues) and will be working to fix it.

  9. One of my absolute favorite powers is Burst from Kinetic Melee. I've absolutely loved it since the first time I used it when beta testing the power set, and it's a big part of why I use the set. I just wish it had a bigger area of effect.

    These are the Heroes.

We as humans should remember these people as examples of honor and duty. I personally find these workers to be amazing.
Regardless of what the situation may or may not currently be at Fukushima, I am vehemently against any sort of in-game "tribute" to real-life events. There's no in-game tribute to 9/11 (nor should there be) because it didn't happen in the CoH story. Likewise, for all anybody knows, the CoH version of Japan wasn't hit by an earthquake and a tsunami.

And if you're talking about some sort of out-of-game tribute, why are you posting it here?!

I'm not suddenly planning on abandoning Defiant, far from it - but if I do make a 2nd home what're your recommendations?

Will anyone be joining us on a soon to be former EU server?
I would've, except that I'm moving back to the US at the end of the month so I'll no longer be five hours ahead of people on my home server.

If anything, this announcement (as welcome as it truly is) is too late for me.

This is what everyone who's sick of Evil Goatee Earth is saying so I'm not sure where there's any argument. I was responding to Blue_Mourning's assertion that Praetoria 2.0 is somehow "deeper" than before. That's only true from 1-20 Gold side. Anywhere else and it's still as generic as you can get... "Yes, but it's EVIL Synapse!"
Compared to what it used to be, the Praetorian story is INFINITELY more complex. I've played through all the content, and it's by no means just "Evil Goatee Earth". Hell, the only Praetorian left from the original storyarc that could still qualify as that is Dominatrix, but that's mainly because after her backstory was retconned, she was never given an updated story and personality to compensate. Within the new continuity, the Praetorian NPCs are now "The ends justify the means in a post-apocalyptic world" kinda people. Not nice, not "heroic", but certainly not polar opposites with curly mustaches. If anything, they're the Freedom Phalanx NPCs taken to their extremes.

Except for mother Mayhem. She's absolutely off her rocker.

Primal Earth NPCs who perceive ALL Praetorians as just being "evil clones" are doing so based on limited information. Most Primal Earthers who were to meet their Praetorian counterpart - assuming that their counterpart wasn't killed by the Devoured Earth - would likely find them to more or less be the same as they are. Y'know, accounting for the fact that in most parts of Praetorian Earth they're still fighting for their survival.

Golden Girl's usual schtick aside, that's kinda the point.

To most Primal Earthers, every Praetorian is evil, as they really don't have anything to go on aside from the original Praeotrian invasion attempt and the kidnapping of Statesman. This point is brought up several times in various Praetorian story arcs, with members of Longbow, Wyvern, and Vanguard being hesitant to work with the Resistance, and being amazed that every single person on Praetorian Earth isn't evil! I forget which factions this exists for, but one of the reasons for Praetorian characters to go to Primal Earth is to show that there are indeed good Praetorians, and that those good Praetorians - which include the vast majority of the civilian population - will likely be caught in the cross-fire should there be a full-scale interdimensional war between the Primal and Praetorian Earths.

    Right.
  19. As an American who's lived in England for three years and has had face-to-face interaction with people from all across the UK, I do find it quite humorous when you Brits get on us (even in jest) about using "proper" English when writing and talking.

And technically speaking, "chips" would be a more accurate general moniker of the potato chunks that we deep fry. However, the whole "Belgian frites" thing does legitimize the use of "fries" as a name for the dish. But I digress ...
  20. This is all my doing, btw.

I'm moving back to the 'States at the end of March and I'm bringing all the European servers with me.

    You're welcome!

Yeah, I've been watching subs of Gokaiger and it's a lot of fun.

    For those who don't know:

After that big fight scene, the energy from all the Sentai somehow took the form of "keys". Captain Marvelous and his crew of space pirates are in possession of these keys, and can use them to turn into ANY Super Sentai from ANY series in the past in addition to their normal Gokaiger forms. Gender and team composition doesn't matter, so we've had things like a team of all reds like it wasn't a big thing. But the coolest part of it all is that they just discovered that they can use the Sentai keys to combine their megazord (can't remember what it's called in Japanese) with the zords of other Sentai series.

This will affect everyone even non-Incarnates, since you can be sure there are people who will fire these off at costume contests and Wentworth's.

Yes, I am one of those crazy people who dislikes Cold shields. I know full well how good they are. I don't mind them when the user customizes them to be as unobtrusive as possible, but I cringe every time the default Cold shield is cast on me. I rely heavily on visual cues in combat, and I find heavy effects very distracting. Oh how I hate those *&$@! missile swarms the IDF have! Looking out over that sea of blue bubbles in Pocket D just made me immediately want to come and post in this thread.

Way to make me feel powerful devs! More and more of my face-smashing ability obviously coming from the Well and from my Well-empowered teammates, that's one thing. But when this Well-granted power actually makes me, as a player, less effective? I cringed at the ramifications of those blue bubbles. And just when my initial disgust at the lore explanation in the i20 announcement was fading into "how am I going to ignore this one...." Any more nasty surprises for me? The -res Interface power is going to shoot Rikti monkeys out of my butt, maybe?
Since we had a sneak peek tonight, and the beta server will be open to everyone for 24 hours starting tomorrow at noon EST, I feel safe in relaying the following:

The Destiny power you're talking about is one of the Barrier powers. It provides both Res and Def to pretty much everything. It's also the only Destiny path with such intense graphical representation. The three other Destiny paths are much more subtle in their appearance. Also, the reason it probably annoyed you so much was that whoever was firing it off was doing so in the middle of Pocket D, with players already tightly-packed. The radii of Destiny powers vary, but within their effective radius every Destiny can effect up to 255 characters. So depending on the specific power, its likely that all those tightly-packed characters were all getting bubbled at once, which can be a bit overwhelming.

I'd try to convince you that it's not nearly as bad during a trial - even with multiple applications from different casters - but since you described yourself as one of those players for whom even ice armor is a major disturbance, I don't know if anything I say would even change your mind in the slightest.
  24. I can personally vouch for the NCSoft Launcher being a fairly harmless program. As stated above, you can set it to exit upon launching a game, and if you DO keep it running in the background, it doesn't take up that much memory. Downloading and application of patches seems to be quite speedier than through the old updater as well.
