This is the latest we have from Mercedes Lackey and Brian Clayton, the Producer at Paragon Studios:
Quote:I had a long talk with Brian Clayton today, and he was encouraging. He's going to fact-check us and the the go-to guy if it works. I have to say I feel much better about trying this since he didn't immediately shoot it down, and in fact said essentially that any longshot is worth pursuing at the moment.
For those of you worried about the Paragon staff, they've managed to get jobs for about 60 of the 80. However...Brian indicated that if CoH rises from the ashes, he should be able to get the core group together again.
We promise we'll keep you as updated as possible. Meanwhile, as Rae said, continue the pressure. Brian told me that NCSoft is definitely feeling the heat over this, it took them completely by surprise and they are very much not happy about it. -
Quote:I dimissed the chance of it being an offer - because no one would pay that kind of money for a medium-sized MMO like CoH.This number?

The one a redname suggests is not worth speculating on and Golden Girl herself dismisses as unrealistic?
Information since then suggests that it is in fact the go-away-and-shut-up price NCSoft has put on the property. -

Quote:That's an over-valuation of the property designed to put off buyers while allowing NCsoft to claim they tried to sell it.Will it cost $80 million? We need to keep that number in use somehow, right?
Plan Z will be using a lot of open source tech and tools to reduce costs and allow for greater community participation in the project. -

Plan Z will be raising money for the project - there's no question of doing it as a purely volunteer effort.

There have been a number of offers from others, including a group of Paragon devs with quite substantial backing - that's what the 80 million price tag was for - to make sure reasonable offers wouldn't be able to match it, allowing NCsoft to claim that they'd "tried" to sell it, but couldn't find a buyer.

In more pedestrian situations, trying to make random strangers unhappy because you can't get to the target of your anger is a good sign of insanity. -

Use Sentinel, and do NOT delete the CoH folder from your computer.

Quote:Have they said that's why they decided to close it? If not, the decision itself isn't evidence of that particular motive but rather it's just evidence that they had a reason to close it... and the guess about the motive remains a guess - possibly an educated one based on other evidence aside from the mere decision itself.
Shouldn't they have halted development work on I24 then? Or at least, not let the devs advertise the T9 Tech Knight armor set 3 hours before the shutdown announcement? -

We're still doing everything that we can - but if things don't work out, then the campaign to get NCSoft to give us back our game will continue past December 1st.
