  1. It's up on Test now

EDIT: All the heads and patterns are tintable - green wolves and blue lions are quite possible

Hats, glasses and hairstyles are out though - so that monocle-wearing, top hat-sporting minotaur will have to wait
  2. The animal pack is now up on the Test server, and there are feedback and bug threads in the Training Room section of the forums.

Every time you limit the range of people who can play together on content, you REDUCE THE FUN.
One of the Trias can be started with just 8 people - they really can't make them any smaller than that

It's bad enough now that we're having to say "We need to do the WST, and therefore you can't play with us tonight" to folks
    "Have" to?

I think we'll be getting some of that - it's quite likely that one or more of the Trials will have a countdown on it, or that stages of the Trial will have a timer.

    * Content that harshly limits people dropping in and out, or unduly penalizes people with bad connections. One of the big problems with TFs is that you cannot rearrange once it's underway; if someone has to work late, either the entire rest of the TF has to sit around and wait for them to get home, or they miss out completely, because they can't join it in progress. We also have various people that don't have perfect computers or connections; if CoH crashes they need to be able to reboot and get back in without having penalized the team on time or being locked out.
Any timers on a Trial will mean that there'll be a risk of that happening.

Content that places a strong focus on player reflexes and low-latency connections. We're playing a MMORPG (where your dodge chance is supposed to be based on the powers, abilities, and gear on your character sheet, not the player's twitch reflexes and net connection) on purpose. There are plenty of RTSs and FPSs out there for those that want that sort of thing.
The Battle Maiden bomb mechanic will make a return in some form or another in one or more of the Trials - it's too interesting and exciting to only be a one-off

Content that gates the *story* of the game behind increasingly difficult *gameplay*. The last time the Earth was invaded, part of the whole *point* was that everyone mattered; whatever level or powers you had, there was something useful you could be doing. To this day, the Riki raids are a great opportunity for folks from all walks and levels to have a good time together. This time, the devs seem to have gone to an enormous amount of effort to develop entirely new technology for the specific purpose of throwing one of CoH's greatest strengths out the window and limiting the number of people who can enjoy the story to the smallest amount possible; this continues to baffle me.
But then that makes the Incarnate powers pointless - if we're getting mroe powerful, and fighting more powerful enemeis, then there's going to come a point where low level avatars simply would be effective at all - a Rikti or zombie invasion is fine, as the enemies are not excessively challenging for lower level avatars - but the kind of things we'e going up againsta sIncarnates are simply too powerful for non-Incarnates to handle.
  4. I wonder what sorts of badges the Trials will give?

This is what I have been waiting for! The visual effects of being more powerful. I hated the fact that AVs and Monsters in the first Mender mission just felt weak, instead of me feeling strong.
Maybe a screenshake for each step you make when using [Walk], and War Walkers do the NPC panic run animation whenever you're in their line of sight?
  6. I'm just helping to manage expectations
  7. I20 is going to see an I18-like stampede to Praetoria
  8. By the way, adding Incarnate Shards to exemplaring would seem to be a big hint that they've not got any specific soloable Incarnate content lined up right now - like if they had 5-10 Incarnate story arcs in the pipeline, I don't think they'd feel the need to extend the Shard drops to all levels of the current content, as the Incarnate story arcs would be the focus of Shard collecting for soloers.

    Win. Win.
With the contribution-based reward system they added for the Praetorian zone events, it was always likely they'd do the same for Incarnate Trials
  10. I wonder if "being more on the ball than usual" = Battle Maiden's bombs? I'm pretty sure we'll see a similar mechanic in at least one of the Trails - because the chance to see 48 players jumping around would be too good to miss

Well, it doesn't hurt to ask

I've been suggesting that for ages - but from the sound of it, the AVs are Siege and a sidekick - they've not mentioned any Resistance enemies, just War Walkers, BAF security, and mindwashed prisoners.

If you mix in the occasional Incarnate Trial you will make more progress.

Note that I am booked solid and will not be at my desk much for the rest of the day, Black Scorpion and Positron may answer a couple questions if I am not available.
Then before you go, can you give us a rough idea of the amount of Shards needed for Tier 3 and 4?

Actually, it didn't mention abilities at all - they just mentioned "climbing the Incarnate tree" - they have't said if that just means access to the 10 branches on the tree, or if it also includes access to the 4 leaves on each branch

For example, right now, solo players can engage with the Incartnate sytem - they can unlock the Alpha slot from mender Ramiel, and then collect 12 shards to make a Tier 1 enhancement that will let them in on the 2 new TFs - they've climbed up to the first bracnh on the *Incarnate tree, but there are 2 leaves that they can't get on their own.
If the BAF and Lambda Trials are the content for the Judgement slot, then it's quite possible that they mnight require having a slotted Judgement slot to access them - so the 1st and 2nd Tier of that slot could be bought with shards, along with unlocking the slot itself - but the 3rd and 4th Judgement Tiers might require doing the raids to get the parts you need.
Solo players would sitll be engaging with the next Incarnate slot, but wouldn't have full access to all the Tiers - they'd have climbed up tot he next branch on the Incarnate tree, but there'd be a couple of leaves on that branch that were still out of reach.

And as the Production letter mentions, new Issues will not be just Incarnate content.
I think though that new non-Trial/raid content will more likely be sub-50, as they're still looking to expand the Praetorian setting, and possibly continue to tie in the escape from Praetoria at 20 to the 20+ blue and red side content.

They mentioned using it for the Hamidon raid, so I think it's posisble they're planning to add it for all the exisiting raids too.

They also haven't mentioned any non-Trial/raid Incarnate content - they've repeated what Positron first said when the Incarnate system was announeced last year - that Incarnate cotnent consists of the Trials/Raid and abilities.

I was about to post about that too - "climbing the Incarnate tree" can mean solo access to all Tiers of every slot, but it can also mean just solo access to one or two Tiers, like we have with the Alpha slot right now.

  20. I knew that Lambda Sector had to be for something - it was way to big and detailed just to be pretty zone filler

EDIT: As Lamba Sector is a Praetorian military base, I'd guess that the raid will be to try and trash some of Tyrant's troops before they set off to invade us?
  21. As it says "up to 6 teams", and anyone on the Trail is in the League, then that means that even if you're solo, you won't miss out - you could even have 48 soloers in the League
