Quote:Well, quite soon you'll be able to spend those 45 mintues of Trial downtime street sweeping or running missions in DAWhen I call BAF/LAM easy mode, I mean in part, easier to form for. The length of time it takes to start any of the others directly relates to the desire of folks to try and run those others. Or in other words, why should I spend 45 minutes standing around for something that may not get going, when I can just jump on a BAF/LAM and get my daily emps easier?

Quote:That's like saying the Faultline and Atlas revamps were a dismantling of the old zonesInstead, the devs choose to continue dismantling the game. Piece by piece, taking the things that have kept me, at least, coming back again and again since I first logged in back in October of 2005. At this point, they should just go ahead and change the name of the game.

They're taking the basic lore of DA, and expanding it to be way more fleshed out - like a smaller version of what they did with Praetoria. -
Quote:During most of the Kane Mansion runs I did, there were a lot of comments about how great the map and general atmosphere was, but also quite a few people I teamed with were wondering why they'd done so much work for a one-off map that'd be locked for 50 weeks every year - and a common bit of speculation was that it was a kind of preview and test for new art assets that'd be reused in some way later on, with Croatoa getting revamped as a 30-40 co-op zone being the most common guess, as it would match the supernatural theme, and was in the right level range to continue the 1-30 revamped from I21.I would be just as fine with the developers scattering groups of empty skulls around the zone, with empty eye-orbits holding bits of decaying phosphorus casting an eerie light.... I don't think we're going to GET that, but it would be cool.
We are also not getting jackolanterns in DA because they're Halloween-specific. They don't frighten me, they are nostalgic. However I like such bits of ambient fluff, and there you have it.
I would also be fine with actual ghosts such as those seen in the Ghost aura, loose in the zone, floating in groups around the cemetary, here and there all over the place. Keep the vanishing people-ghosts and add some traditional ghosts.
You know what else I would like? Remember those awesome red eyes looking in through the windows of the Haunted Mansion? Put 'em in the zone. Scary eyes should peer at you from underneath bushes and from dense patches of shadow.
I like it scary.
But now maybe parts of the Kane Mansion will find their way into Dark Astoria instead? -

One potential side effect of the DA content is that it might increase the amount of IXP and salvage required for the next few slots - right now, it seems that Incarnate progress is balanced around the rate we can earn IXP and salvage during the Trials, inclduing the time it takes a league together - but the DA content will massively reduce the "dead" reward time between Trials, so players who play all the Incarnate content will be earning IXP and salvage quite a bit faster than they currently do just by playing the Trials - which could lead to the next few slots having their unlock and enhancement requirements increased.

Quote:There might need to be a guarnteed rare or very rare for completing the full zone storyline, otherwise it could be a bit rough to spend a few hours playing through it, only to have the RNG give out a common or uncommon at the end.Ya, it's a tricky balance. It's even trickier to balance after the fact that one of the avenues exists.
It needs to have a progression rate that feels meaningful to the audience.
I think there is good potential for the iTrials to still generally be a better option with the newer trials giving E-Merits on every run, as well as the 'longer' trials giving guaranteed Rare+. It's something that'll have to be tested and probably watched after it goes live in case re-evaluation is necessary. -

Quote:I think the new zone decorations are more about skulls than pumpkinsIf they redid the whole zone to be like the Halloween trial, I'd be thrilled. Do it. This includes jack o'lanterns all over the place, btw.
I don't think we're going to get that, but it would be cool if we did.

It won't - the amount of loot that the UG or Keyes rains on us now isn't even matched by BAF and Lambda, so the solo content waon't be able to compete with that at all.
-
I wonder who will be the people who ask us to help and transport us there? Vanguard are for extra-dimensional threats, and Longbow don't really seem to be trained for fighting an evil god, so my guess is that it'll be the Midnighters.
-
Mot is the god of death metal, so too much fog would hide all the new death metal scenery.
-
You might like MoM then - it has some non-timed downtime between phases

Some 30+ Praetorian contne twould be nice - but the Problem with Praetoria is that it's much more limited story-wise, because it's a world that's been very carefully set up to be limited - it's a fascist dictatorship surrounded by dangerous wilderness - it just doesn't have the huge story potential of Primal Earth, because it's been written to focus on a single situation which is world wide.
There's still room for more of the Paretorian story, but as we've already gotten the totalitarian city and the survivors in the wilderness parts of the story, anything else would need to be a variation on that, because that's basically all the world is - everything revolves around the 2 monsters of the world - Tyrant and the Hamidon.
So even if they made something like, say, one of the West Coast settlements that Marauder used to rule, it'd still be heavily focused on Tyrant and the Hamidon, because the world set up demands it - while Primal Earth is totally flexible, and can have things added like Croatoa, or Cimerora, or Galaxy City destoryed, or Dark Astoria revamped, without needing to reference any world wide siuation that limits what the storylines can be about. -
There's already a newer and more realistic type of fog being used on the Kane Mansion map - it's not nearly as thik as the DA fog effect, but it does creep over the ground, and is nice and atmospheric.

Quote:With repeatable contacts, it's quite likely they'll be alignment based, like the ones in First Ward - the zone storyline will also apparently have some kind of choice options that affect how it turns out, so that could mean some evil stuff for the the Villains, Rogues and Vigilnates to do, based on what they do during the story.Urk, Co-op. Enough with the Co-op. Maybe for a mini-trial or TF or something but no more. Please let villains have proper mission content for a change. Less 'vaguely heroic' missions, more real villainy.
Although, like with all co-op zones, the basic theme is still fighting evil - but it looks like they'll give some chances for evil people to fight the greater evil in their own way - but siding with Mot probably isn't an option
-
It's just normal content, but for Incarnates - there's are arcs for the zone story, and separate repeatable contacts for Heroes and Villains - the only diffeence is that they give Incarnate rewards instea dof normal rewards.

Quote:"Grinding" the same content to make progress? You can street sweep to just unlock slots and earn threads for components, the 'radio' (IE repeatable) missions grant threads, and the story arc grants salvage and merits and gets to be repeatable via Flashback system.

Closer than thatQuote:Only a shame it's probably 4-6 months away.

Quote:That sounds like a good mix of rewards for the different activities.Defeating critters in Dark Astoria, whether street sweeping or the critters inside DA missions, will give you both Physical and Psychic Incarnate XP, and chances to get threads on each defeat. Completing the one-off Repeatable Missions available in the zone will allow you to gain Threads. Completing the Incarnate Story arcs will allow you to obtain Incarnate Components, Incarnate Merits, or Threads, with some amount of time-gating per reward per arc. Incarnate Story arcs can also be flashbacked via Ouroboros, allowing you to repeat them at your own pace (and allowing you to re-earn rewards after your cooldown on that choice has elapsed).
Are you able to tell us if the whole Banished Pantheon group is getting a visual makeover, or are there just going to be new enemy types added to the group for Incarnates to fight? -

Will the pet be a mini Statesman?

I wonder if Tyrant might send some of his troops to DA to try and get Diabolique back, or if he's kinda neutral about losing control of her?
