Quote:Not everyone is prepared to lower their standards - some people would rather aim for the stars than crawl around in a cel-shaded sewer. Now this whole thread is about whether or not a rogue group making up about 20% of the active forum population which makes up about 10% of the in game population which makes up about 3% of NCSoft's profits can somehow save COH after all of its staff has been fired and has begun proactively seeking work elsewhere.

Quote:CoH is worth the effort, trash like CO isn't - that's why we're still here.Look, I know you just want to somehow magically save COH. And I can see that lots of people still think that our game can be preserved. But it can't be, and that's just the truth of the matter. Best practical case scenario, TonyV and his team copy over enough data to make a private server. There will be no professional dev's. There will be no real progress. It will probably be copyright infringement that can be shut down at any time. Do you really want to invest time or money into something illegal? It won't be above board at all.

It'd be a pretty big step down in quality for the CoH devs.

Quote:We have some reasonably heavy hitters helping out, with connections to the actual negotiations.yeah i wouldnt get your hopes too high up yet. this is all heresay and means little to nothing. who exactly "talked" to brian clayton? and why were you with brian to begin with?
that might help make it more credible...hell anyone here could start a rumor as much as this one. -

It's very important to keep up the pressure on NCSoft - keep spreading the petiton, and keep letting the media know out story.

Quote:The campaign needs to continue and will continue - it's always been focused on getting NCSoft to sell CoH instead of closing it - and that's the message we'll continue to send them.Dude, that message is NCsoft officially telling us it's "game over" as far as they are concerned. There are no more action items to take on our side. Either someone else buys the IP or they don't. Everyone did they best they could, now it's time to accept the reality of the situation and make the most of it. If there's no successor announced by November 30th, then there's no successor. No point living in denial in the meanwhile.
Sorry (and yes, I still wish it wasn't true but it is; time to move on). -
NCSoft would also have to do this if the game was being sold too - this statement today doesn't really change anything.

Actually, they'd have to do this no matter what happens - the whole billing and account system is integrated into the wider PlayNC system, so for either a shut down or a sale, they'd still have to separate them.

Quote:Yeah, there are a few weeping "poor Bioware" types around, but the Tortanic is very much a Bioware failure.Judging by the stories I've heard, both internal and external, EA said, "Hey BioWare, we know you're really good at doing your thing, so we're going to give you freedom to do whatever you'd like!"
Then BioWare screwed up majorly and everybody went, "Damn that EA, ruining our BioWare!" -

Quote:There'll need to be donations at some stage, if Plan Z turned out to be the only thing we can do to save the community - although tech and modeling experts volunteering to help get something off the ground would cut costs a bit.you have no idea how much money I'd pay TonyV and whomever he can get from Paragon Studios to join with him to form a company and produce a game called "Titan City" with a Kickstarter campaign.
Actually, I don't know how much money I would pay either... I'd have to check my finances. I'm old and have disposable income, but still...
It would be as much as I, my wife, and even son (who loves CoH, and who's still living with us but paying rent) can afford.

Quote:Although that's the Plan Z option if everything else fails, some basic groundwork is already being done, just in case the worst happens. The group of players who successfully resurrected EA's Earth and Beyond are already making preparations to form their own legitimate studio and pump out something grand; working for nearly a decade to put EnB back together showed that they could do the impossible--what next?
Those guys and gals didn't have HALF the fanbase and fan resources that we have here. What are we capable of? Can't wait to find out. So one thing's for sure. If our efforts to win over NCSoft's charity fail, we need to take all of that anger, and all of that passion, and all of that love for our game and community, and use it to BUILD something from the ashes.
THAT is what I would most like to stick it to NCSoft with.
THAT is how I'd like to see revenge.

A lot of the tech ideas are hard to copyright because they're so basic to games in general, not just MMOs - they can copyright the names of the systems, but trying to make the systems themselves exclusively theirs is a lost cause.
