I've noticed that the Warrior shoulder pads from the Martial Arts pack have a noticeable clipping issue where the lower pad clips with the upper one. The only way to circumvent it is to color both pads exactly the same and to make sure it's a dark color (black). Now they only clip badly in most melee animations and they almost always clip when standing idle when you put your hands on your hips AND when you cross your arms. Even with the physique bar being moved to the halfway point.
I've included several different melee animation screenshots - dual blade, electric melee, broadsword and martial arts. They clip in all other melee too. They don't clip too bad in Dual Pistol oddly enough (I was expecting them to).
Could it be fixed by cutting out the upper part of the lower pads? No one would normally see them anyway because they're always under the upper part of the pad. So instead of having two pads have one pad that's connected underneath so there isn't an extra lip that pokes through the upper flat surface.

I think I'm going to try a Dual Blade/Nin Stalker. I've got a Spines/Regen stalker that's fun but that concept toon will probably go the way of Poison if it ever gets proliferated to Corrs.
Anyone have feedback on how DB/Nin functions? -
Thank you.
I have toyed with the idea of having him be a Hero first and thus a Scrapper while going through the events that changed him in the Golden Giza - having him become Vigilante or total Villain in Going Rogue.
-
Hmm - I've always like the idea of playing Ninjitsu. There are a few powers in that set that can play into Probability Manipulation too and there are some gadgets to boot to play into the Natural theme as well. DB/Nin? Hmmm.. hehe

Quote:I don't have a costume yet for her but I was going to do a Queen of Hearts, Jack of Diamonds, King of Spades and.. well maybe Queen of Clubs - not sure on the final face card. Wish there were 4 different types King, Queen, Jack and.. but ah well.Well I'm partial to seeing the face, so I'd say #3. If not, then one.
I also might suggest changing the chest detail to a black-colored heart - but that's if you particularly want to play up his dastardliness.
EDIT: Oh, btw, do you have any designs for female-body costumes?
Well, I can't account for vanity, but you could work hir probability powers into hir Hide power as always making sure e is always "in the target's blind spot" - a modification of hir gaming skill to get around tells.
I agree with BS/ as lending itself to the iconic nature of the concept. I'll caution that /SR is an end-heavy set that blooms very late. You might want to consider an offensive powerset that is cheaper on end.
I'm presently playing a DP/Rad corr and enjoying it, you could definitely consider the /rad powers as being probability manipulation (which, actually, from the game mechanics it actually does manipulate probability, i.e. to hit and defense). DP/ doesn't exactly keep with his playing-card motif, though.
That's a very interesting take on the Hide ability. I rather like that and if I don't go with Stalker I may just pick up Stealth on whatever I do decide on. Thanks!
Dual Blades is cheaper than BS right? I know I already have a DB scrapper but.. Stalker and Brute play differently enough perhaps. I know War Hammer would have a similar issue with End. Hrm.
The guns aren't particularly for card concept but just a "Natural" offensive weapon. Any thug can do guns though I still think the DP set is way above any normal guy on the street, which is kinda why I like Thug MM and it's version of dual pistols better. -
Quote:I thought an End Red was needed too with these guys due to their end drain issues? I'm just now starting to slot them up.The information that has been passed around, sorry I don't have the citations: is that damage resistance is a schedule B enhancement and because of the interrelation between damage and damage resistance, the display is showing a schedule B 2 effect on Damage. With 3 SOs of damage you should effectively have >90% even though the display is an error.
The real trick is getting >90% of damage on the tier two demons since they like to suck down the endurance like crazy in their auras after level 32. Effectively I have 2 Acc, 3 Dmg, and 1 End Reduction in them. Ember demon is worthy of every enhancement. -
Thanks! Which face do you think I should use?
I thought about Stalker but I hate being hidden all the time. I'm a vain one. I like seeing my character's costume all the time. haha But I may go that route. I've definitely thought about Mace Mastery for any concept I play to get the extra symbolism in there. And based on what APPs Stalkers get in GR I may be more heavily influenced to play one. -
Hello!
I'm debating on what powersets to use for a concept I have in mind for a toon named Face Card. I'll go over the bio summary and show some pics and what my thoughts are on some powersets. I'd really appreciate any feedback you guys can give.
Rough summary idea (not what you'd find in the bio) : the character is a mutant with the following abilities: minor probability manipulation and minor shape shifting. The rest of his capabilities are natural - i.e. some sort of weapon. He used his shape shifting and probability manipulation to win big bucks at the Golden Giza, specializing in the card games (but dabbling in slots and dice games). He always shifted from various female and male forms to keep the Family and Johnny Sonata off his trail. Of course, they eventually catch wind of it and use magic (possibly the Blood of Xiang Xi) to prevent him from using his probability powers and take him out.
Realizing that he was too valuable to actually kill, they punished him by hurting loved ones and other typical mobster make an example out of you stuff. To circumvent his ability to disguise himself as male or female, they "marked" him by slicing up his face with a magic dagger that permanently scarred him. He can shift the scar around his face but can't shift the damage away. (this is mainly due to the fact that the scarred faces change location between male and female models - sigh)
He now has made a persona out of this situation to strike back at the Family and the Golden Giza for hurting him and his family, to start a life of crime to get more money (since his old tricks won't work now) and to generally be a nasty ****.
The whole Face Card thing comes from his background with cards and gambling but also due to his face being messed up. You know how some face cards only appear facing one side? The scar always being on one side of his face kinda symbolizes that too.
His costumes will be based off of the various face cards: a king, queen and a jack. Probably a joker in there somewhere for wild card sake.
My questions are:
What costume fits this best? the ones below are his King of Spades costume.
What powersets should I use? I'd really love Thugs but I don't like any of the secondaries to represent his probability manipulation. If MMs ever get Radiation Emission then that would work out well. Force Fields work in concept but I don't like the powerset.
I was also thinking Mace/Super Reflex Brute. Mace for the scepter look and super reflex for probability manipulation. I also liked Mace/Shield since you can get more playing card imagery using the shield.
Sword/Dual Blades/etc. works too due to a lot of face cards having swords in their art. Sadly there are some random axes and scepters too though (and I do have a DB scrapper already)
And finally Dual Pistols and Radiation Corruptor. I think DP may be a bit flashy for it, seeing as how super humanly fast the animations look but it could work. I much prefer the less flashy DP of Thugs but what can you do.

Quote:Hahaha niceYeah, along with pool and epic customisations, I guess.
Are there any other effects in the same bag as Domination? ie archetype rather than powerset independent? I cant think of any...
(Although I want to make my Controller say "SERVED" instead of "OVERPOWER")
I don't think there is. All other inherits are w/o an effect. Tho I always kind of thought it'd be cool if Brutes got bigger or redder or something the more furious they got. :P That'd only work with a few concepts tho so I'd not wish that on everyone. hehe -
I guess we'll just have to hit the Devs up when Power Customization 2.0 comes out and make sure we get Domination included.
-
Definitely would love to see this. I just posted the following comment today in the Dom forums and came here to find any other threads. Happy to show my support!
Quote:As I said, I'd love to at least color the effect (bright/dark/etc.) but ideally be able to do some elemental effects similar to the Aim powers. Rainbows can be scary but I like some variety!I've not followed the subject, if it's even been brought up before, but have there been any requests or Dev comments on maybe one day customizing the actual Domination visual effect? I know they plan to let us customize power pools, patron powers, etc. and would love to be able to change the rainbow sparkle effect of Domination buildup and activation. At the very least change the colors. At the very best change the theme - fire, elec, etc. similar to Aim variations. -
I mention them because they are mentioned often (and by others in this thread) and if we're ever to get a generic weapon set that could be customized more along the lines of what I suggested it could be one of those. I am more concerned with what I originally posted about tho. I have read him being quoted about it but I've also seen a ton of things we were told would be difficult to get. Doesn't nor shouldn't prevent anyone from discussing what ifs. But thanks for the suggestion....

Quote:I'd like to see any new melee sets have options for multiple weapon appearances so we aren't so limited conceptually speaking. So why not a two-handed weapon set - not just hammer, axe OR sword but a set that encompassed all three (if not more - staffs maybe?) types. If anything, I'd like to have MORE weapon sets, not fewer of them. Two-handed weapon sets, if possible. Probably want to see a two-handed hammer, but a two-handed sword or axe would suffice.

I'm actually working on a Volcano toon too and for right now he's Stone/Fire Brute. I'm strongly looking at Earth/Fire and Earth/Earth Dom too. I know /Fire is best for damaging but I'm in love with that lava hammer now from playing the Brute and it'll be hard to give that up if I reroll into a Dom. But the idea of fire breath is super nice too. :P
I don't think you can go wrong with any of those. -
I've not followed the MM secondary power set progression over the years - have they said MMs will get Radiation eventually or have they said that's just crazy talk since it'd be too good?
-
Quote:As much as I wish it were, that probably wouldn't happen BUT I hope any future sets like Polearms are handled just like that!BS, Mace and Axe got almost exact animations, and its supposed for the Mace and Axe to not cut "too much".
So, /yes.
More customization is much needed in this game, where you cant do this or that due to stupid decisions made in the past.
To be fair I must say I never saw the point in this sets because to me look exactly the same, got the same attacks and almost the same damage.
It should be one set called "Heavy weapons", were you can mix and match animations and weapons for each attack. Would be much fun that having 3 pointless sets that didnt cost the devs much work because they do the same. -
Quote:Thanks. I totally agree (of course). I just think it's also isn't worth arguing over the real world physics of sword vs mace vs axe. Not in THIS game where everyone can fly, turn invisible and shoot beams out of their hands. I don't think the change hurts anyone, if you don't like it, don't use it. And people will still play what sets they want to play, they are all so similar anyway. And this way - a Brute wants to wield a Broadsword they don't have to wait until Proliferation of an entire set to do it. They can pick Axe OR Mace and swap out a Broadsword model. How similiar are the animations? Between Axe and Mace every single one of the animations is shared. If we extend this comparison to Broadsword the ONLY animation that is unique to it is that of parry. Which reduces the aesthetic side of the argument to whether or not you think the parry animation is adequate for Mace and Axe.
Just in case there is any doubt, here is a quick chart to compare the copied animations.
Beheader-> Bash -> Slash
Chop -> Clobber -> Hack
Gash -> Pulverize -> NOT PARRY
Swoop -> Jawbreaker -> Disembowel
Whirling Axe/Mace/Sword
Cleave -> Shatter -> Headsplitter
Pendulum -> Crowd Control -> Slice
So actually yes, as a matter of fact, you can slash at people with a hammer.
As for the effects of the set, and them possibly not looking appropriate, I am again going to have to strongly disagree with you. All three sets do knock-down, up, and everything in between as all three are rather LARGE weapons. It doesn't take a huge stretch of imagination for me to envision my broadsword, which is already knocking enemies on their *** in it's own set, to be transferred over to War Axe and continue knocking people over. Nor does it take the mind of a child to believe that an axe to the face might be slightly disorienting.
Which leaves the question of why we would possibly want to use an axe on one costume and a sword on the other, the answer of which I feel can be best arrived to by asking yourself if, when using a weapon set, do you use the same exact weapon for every costume? If your answer was "no", or if you know someone who has said "no" then you can probably begin to figure out why the OP, and probably myself, would like such a thing. Concept demanded it, and if you've ever met concept you should well understand what a fickle, yet dear and important, thing she is.
So, I again reiterate, if such a change can be implemented without seriously hampering the progress of something else deemed more important , there is absolutely no reason, be it a concern of whether the animations will fit, or whether the secondary effects will make sense, to deny the sharing of weapon models between the Axe, Mace, and Broadsword power sets.
If the best reason against this idea is truly "I don't like how it looks so nobody can play as it" then I demand all furries and half of Freedom be hurled into the sun for similiar reasons -
I'll look at FF if I do Thugs for sure. See how transparent I can get them to look. I hate buffing tho but I'm a slave to concept.

Quote:/drool Yes please!Death Scythe and Blood Spear weapon set suggestions!
I still get excited when I read those sets. I'd so love it if they implemented these sets with a similar style -
Quote:Staves would rock. Just throw on some customization options of blades, axes and maces at each end. Purely cosmetic. If they can animate people flipping around like maniacs with dual pistols and flexible whip attacks (which I imagine would be a good deal more difficult than animating rigid weapons) I don't see it being all that much harder to depict wielding a staff two-handed.
As far as having a "small staff" in each hand, two sticks do not a staff make, even with the word bo in front. They could probably just draw up some sticks for dual blades and that would serve just as well, so long as players could forget the name blades in the set.
I'd like to see staves implemented at some point. -
Quote:This. The sets I mentioned are so similar with animations and power abilities, etc. I didn't (and still don't) think a purely cosmetic thing would ruin one of the three sets, preventing other people from playing them.I don't see a compelling reason against it. Especially with Broadsword/Axe/Mace, which largely just copy each others animations anyway. I would like a flaming sword too, and no, I don't expect it to start doing fire damage, much in the same way that I don't expect the Talsorian Blade to start doing energy damage.
If it's just for aesthetics, why not?
And sure, I'd love to see throwing knives and hand claws. ;D -
Ok. So only Broadsword can customize across weapon types then. :P
This was just for cosmetics and customization. Not to influence or explain damage types.
And before we get too far into what's possible and not in the world, let's remember what game we're playing.
I was just thinking of something that wouldn't require new powersets. Hopefully a Polearms set would have multiple weapon types if we ever get that.
Edit - I suppose I just got used to it being an option in other games and think it could benefit City of Heroes. -
Quote:if you look at the way the shovel is in both sets, it is positioned to match the set. it is sideways in axe to take advantage of the blade side of the shovel and straight on for mace to take advantage of the bluntness of the shovel.
since we already have an axe and war mace set, there is no reason to allow broadsword to use these types of weapons. also, damage is not affected by the type of weapon.Quote:I know in some cases it'd require new animations even if all that's needed is to max the weapon be carried at a different angle (like the shovels) but I'm sure in other cases there wouldn't be a need for new animations.
The reason is for concept which most of this game is about. So yes, there IS a reason for it. There is no technical game play increase reason, no. It's for concept/customization. If I want a toon to be able to wield a sword, an axe and a mace through various costumes then that's the reason.
I'm also aware that the weapon graphic doesn't dictate the damage type but the set that the weapon is in DOES. And since in PvP I could see there being an argument that people want to visually see the damage type being used against them then I made the suggestion about how the weapon may change in PvP zones. I personally don't care if that happens or not since I don't PvP much and don't care if someone is using a Sword, Mace or Axe against me.
