If this is a confirmation that you must be in SG Mode to earn prestige, let me add my voice to those saying "That sucks"
[/ QUOTE ]
Something new, to be added to the game, and GadgetDon hates it. Wow, who would have thought....... -

something I'm not clear on. The base will be basically put on actual in game land correct?
[/ QUOTE ]
No. The bases will be accessible via portals. They don't have a location in the city.
Which is cool in a way, because it means you can have spaceship and alien dimension bases.
[/ QUOTE ]
Plus, it can be offloaded onto another server, which not only avoids impact to the primary gameplay ones, but can be upgraded based on the needs of the zone. -

[ QUOTE ]
He said the reason they did it this way is so that people who are around level 20 group can get a base. If influence was used to pay for the base, a level 20 group couldn't pay for it. So they decided to make a new system so that lower level SGs could afford a base.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, it makes sense. Still... there are some screwy things about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. While I can understand the disappointment in the high levels with influence, overall it does make sense. It does allow for a somewhat 'even' playing field in regards to earnability in the points required for a base. And it seems to be overall very fair, providing the 'rent' isn't something outrageous. I'd want to see more details surrounding the 'rent' before commenting further on that.
As was pointed out by other posters, the INF based base is not very fair to the lower levels who a) don't have a lot of influence to begin with and b) are scraping their INF together for DO's and their first SO's. A SG based system is pretty fair across the board. Especially since some advanced notice is being given, so those who have opted to use costume slot will have time to adjust.
However, I'd also like to see it being somewhat reasonable in cost and associated rent. Sure, a lot of SG's in the comics had their own bases. But a lot of heroes also had their own base of operations (Fortress of Solitude, Bat Cave, etc). I would hope they structure it so that a single hero, or small group, could still get something reasonable, without running the risk of losing it due to 'rent' costs.
Perhaps make the eye-candy stuff extremely cheap to buy, but anything that is an active defense of some kind much more expensive? Just trying to toss out ideas to balance between those who want a base with the PvP action, and those who just want a base for the fun aspect. -
[ QUOTE ]
Also remember that the Freakshow will work for anyone who provides sandwiches and a keg.
[/ QUOTE ]
While the labor may be cheap, I don't think I'd be hiring them for any home improvement projects. Although might be fun to see them on Monster House... -
[ QUOTE ]
I thought only Miss Kitty could do that...
[/ QUOTE ]
Pep too... except she'd probably fill his quiver up with peppermints first.
Manticore...Minty Fresh! -

The symbol can be found here:

[/ QUOTE ]
I'll have to go find a freak and check out the tatoo on their heads now. Last time I zoomed into one to check it out, it didn't look like the symbol in the link. Instead it looked like a black spider.
Or maybe my graphics card is the suxxor... -

I have to say, after watching the video, I can't take Synapse seriously. He got owned. Majorly owned.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well true. But in defense of Synapse he was walking into a trap that he didn't know about. He was going to scout out the area, and had a handful of AV's watching his approach and waiting for him. One of which was Lord Recluse himself, whom I suspect is a higher level AV (just as States) then the other major heroes/villians. The numbers and situation clearly favored the baddies. -

[ QUOTE ]
It's the same symbol that Lord Recluse uses, although I'm not certain if it has an official name or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is definitely not the Arachnos symbol.
[/ QUOTE ]
See? Manticore really can teleport.
[/ QUOTE ]
And spank Go_Sabres too.I guess I stand corrected then. I'll have to pay more attention to the details of the baddies in the comics. The old 'assumption' adage.
-
It's the same symbol that Lord Recluse uses, although I'm not certain if it has an official name or not.
-
[ QUOTE ]
So that means Recluse is, most likely, an incarnation of another Greek god (or goddess possibly).
[/ QUOTE ]
Or, the standard good/bad split. States got the 'good' side of Zeus, and Lord Recluse got the power of the 'bad' side. -
Real life always takes a precident over a game, even in your role Jack. Godspeed to your brother, his buddies and the rest of the brave men and women in Iraq.

I think the problem with making the enhancements more difficult to aquire would result in more Ebay postings, power level requests in exchange for SO's, etc. In other words, uberloot. People were already selling HO's and HO build characters on Ebay. What makes you think that making SO's more difficult to aquire wouldn't generate that off shoot?
If enhancements are to remain in the game, I like the way it's done now, as it's something available to every player, equally.
However, it also may be a good time to look at skills as a possible replacement for enhancements? Probably way too difficult to code now, but what if there were no enhancements and a player could 'train' or gain exerpeince in a skill that would behave in the same fashion as an enhancement would be? Let the player pick the training type for a slot (damage, acc, etc). -
[ QUOTE ]
but in a group, those get deleted right away (or given to other heroes... like Go_Sabres =^_^=).
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, you'll all regret it. I'm following the Hunt brothers lead, and hoarding all the training enhancements to corner the market. -
[ QUOTE ]
You've got to be a pretty cool guy, let alone a cool MMO dev to be able to take things like that with a sense of humour.
Kudos, Statesman!
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. How many other games lead developers have fun like this, with the user base? For all the grief people give States over things, he's still one of the coolest devs out there. -
[ QUOTE ]
I do can see you did... "corporatized" your hair style.

If we see him in a shirt and tie next, be afraid. Be very afraid. -
[ QUOTE ]
Holy crap, Statesman is coming to Columbus! This is probably the best thing to happen to this city since...uh.... the Buckeyes won the Nationals!
[/ QUOTE ]
And when the Sabres beat the Blue Jackets.... -
[ QUOTE ]
Yow! Statesman is coming to Columbus! Glad I live here. 8) Now I guess I'll have to go get that DVD edition so I can have the Heroclix for States to sign...
Vix
[/ QUOTE ]
Nah, States needs a Sabres jersey to sign.... -
Personally, I liked both comics thus far. The graphics and story seem more complex with the new Top Cow magazine. However, as others have pointed out, the King comic heroes seem more like "us joes" playing the game, and were easier to identify with. Plus, the guest apperances were kind of nice for the players.
[ QUOTE ]
I like the art but the story doesn't make any sense.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, it's only been one issue. I'd give it a few more issues to fill in storyline that may not make sense now. A good story keeps the reader interested during it's duration, and doesn't give it all away up front.
[ QUOTE ]
There's a spell on the city that "suppresses super powers". It evidently doesn't do anything to the war walls (some pretty elite tech there), the guns wielded by the thugs, or cars. This means that it's very, very selective.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or, things like guns and cars aren't consider 'super powers'. Those are straight chemical combustions, and require no super powers to activate. Just like boiling water produces steam. I wouldn't say it's 'very, very selective' but rather a finely focused attack/suppression system. I'll go into part of my belief on why Lord Recluse would do that in a bit....
[ QUOTE ]
And what about natural origin MA/SR scrappers who just know kung fu? Why would they be at anything less than full effectiveness? If guns work, why can't AR blasters just keep shooting?
[/ QUOTE ]
My guess would be that the basics of it work, but the 'super' part of them are suppressed. For example, an AR blaster's guns might still work, but they may no longer have the enhanced abilities of aiming it, skills to use it, etc. My guess would be that they're suppressed to the levels of an ordinary human would have with skilled training. Good, but not 'super' in their levels.
[ QUOTE ]
What about heroes whose powers are inextricably linked to their existence, like magical entities or androids like Bastadel (ok, they're probably just dead)? Why is Positron still generating anti-matter if that was his superpower?
[/ QUOTE ]
This may be a case of it being a suppression system rather then an outright disconnet. As demonstrated in the comic, limited abilities still remain with the super heroes, and it's not a total cut from them. At least with the main characters. Who knows what a 'lesser' hero is like. Perhaps it's also linked to how long, or advanced a hero is, and how 'bonded' they've become with their super powers, on how well they've retained them during this suppression.
[ QUOTE ]
Then we're told that 6 weeks later, the city is happy and peaceful and being cleaned up by "Arachnos drones". Life for the civilians is completely back to normal, but the only heroes in the city are hiding in fear of their lives. Super powers work everywhere else in the world but not in Paragon.
What?
Exactly what kind of drugs are the government and the civilians smoking? If I lived in that city, I'd be RUNNING for the exits. There's an unknown spell on the city - does that affect my cancer treatments, my cell phone, or any of the reverse-engineered Ritki tech being integrated into commercial products? If I was the president, I would scrounge up whatever military I had left from the war and send it to secure the place and get everyone out. If I lived anywhere else in the world I would drop everything and figure out how to make sure what happened to Paragon doesn't happen to me next. Superpowers get suppressed, a bunch of people die, some Arachnos guy sends in robots to control the place...and it's business as usual?
I don't buy it.
[/ QUOTE ]
First, never underestimate the power of stupidity with group-think. As pointed out in the comic, the city is cleaned up and the citizens are living in perceived safety. Massive hero versus villian fights appear to be done away with. And other then Lord Recluse, at this point we don't know what's up with the villians either. We know the Clockwork were impacted by it, but not of the other groups. If the super heroes had their powers taken away, but so do the villians, I'm certain there would be people living there that would be in favor of that.
I think of it more as an ingenious plan by Lord Recluse, using PR against the heroes to establish his beach head. The heroes were there to protect the public and citizens, but yet were creating risks and general destruction. In comes Lord Recluse, and suddenly all that stops. Order is brought back, and the city is repaired and cleaned up. What are the heroes going to immediately argue? Bring back the city block devastation from their combat with the villians again? Bring back the graffiti and trash littering entire sections?
Of course it's only the first issue, so I'm certain more of the story will unfold as it progresses. Like what really is the motivation behind Lord Recluse. What happened to the other heroes? Sure we know they're said to have left, but perhaps that's some official story cooked up by Lord Recluse. And, what happen to all of the super powered villain groups once Lord Recluse came to town? Did they go in league with him? Did they get pushed aside? The latter could make for some interesting alliances as the heroes struggle to restore the city against Lord Recluse. -

Taunt will not return a mob in Fear.
[/ QUOTE ]
Eh? Was in the Rik Crash site earlier this evening and had no problems luring them back in for the most part. Sure it was a bit annoying watching them do the 2-step the whole time, but never had a problem with being unable to taunt them with burn going. -

Actually looking at the wording of such a badge... I would expect issue 4 to go live at the beginning of may.
[/ QUOTE ]
And May 1st is this Sun.......
I think the boards might blow up! I'm gonna get a poncho!
[/ QUOTE ]
I seriously doubt it would happen then. My guess would be a Monday or Tuesday, when staff is in the offices should major complications happen, as a safety net. Then you have the rest of the week to either back-down or slap emergency fixes in should the need arise. -
[ QUOTE ]
The badge will be given to every character that logs in after Issue 4 goes live, thru May 30th, 2005. Plenty of time for you to get it on all your characters.
It is NOT a Veteran reward badge. You can make a character on May 30th this year and they will get the badge.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now you've done it Positron! After issue 4 goes live and before May 30th. There's a minimum of a month before I4 goes live. And 'plenty' of time. Okay, a few weeks. Let the speculation begin! -

It's eight. Numina was created by the players in a contest.

Now known as the holder of the Numa Numa TF. -

How can you use magic to turn off someone's powers?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because it's magic?
It's just a preview of a story, and I imagine a small snip of the full story. Also you'll notice the narrative bubbles are using the past tense to describe the incidents in the scenes. Coupled with the 'disconnect' messages, may be a flashback, a dream induced narrative, or view of an alt dimension. Lots of possibilities. -
I pity the fool that ignores the release of this comic.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Actually all three covers are previewed in the article. Its just that the Perez cover is up at the top of the article instead of down with the others. You can still click it to see a large version of it. I'd have to say its my favorite of the three.
[/ QUOTE ]
States is looking pretty ticked off in that one, and about to give someone a world of hurt....
