I'm also in the process of sending codes to those who attended Memorabilia, however I may not be able to get them all done today so please be patient. -
Super_Sidekick,
Historically the servers, and forums, were kept separate for a myriad of business reasons. A little over a year ago City of Heroes Was owned 50/50 between NCsoft and Cryptic. However, that wasn't the full story because until the recent formation of NCsoft West the US and EU offices of NCsoft were completely separate business entities (although both owned by NCsoft Korea).
Without going into details, while many of those business reasons for the separation have changed over the last year they have simply been replaced by some technical reasons that would need to be addressed. We have many years of development of CoH that has been done with the assumption that EU and US servers are separate, so it isn't as simple as 'just merging the server lists'.

You're amazingly high on your soapbox today, Carni. Feeling happy?
Anyway, I'd say that either the OP is either the kind of person who makes extremem snap decisions based on playing a game for 10 minutes, or it's actual a second account belonging to one of the "Please merge the servers" crew.
He doesn't sound like he's planning to stay anyway. Does he?
High horse. Off. Please.

It's not a soapbox or a high horse when he's absolutely, 100% right. Yes, Super Sidekick has raised a question / suggestion that many of you have seen ad nauseam over and over for longer than you can remember. But that's still not an excuse to dig in, and there are much, much better ways of pointing someone new to this forum towards previous discussions.
The forum rules explicitly request that you show some respect to your fellow forum members. Please do. -

Anyway, I'll have them sent out ASAP - hopefully tomorrow. We've just got back to the office now. Was great chatting with those of you who came along, especially on Saturday - you all kept us entertained wonderfully, and out minds off the gap where Mike was supposed to be sitting. Unfortunately Neil Edwards had to pull out for Sunday as well, so Kat and Jason between them were filling the shoes of what had originally been planned to be four people, not two. Thanks also to our regular caterer, who arrived with cake and party hats on Sunday to help celebrate Jason's birthday.
Kat and Jason both did an absolutely amazing job on the two days. Between them they managed to get through:
* 5 Sketch Cards
* 20 single character A4 Sketches
* 4 two character A4 Sketches
* 14 single character Colours
* 2 two character Colours -
I'm afraid there's bad news. Mike Collins can't make it this weekend, so Saturday will be Kat and Jason only. That means even fewer sketches and colours. Well do what we can to get as many done as possible.
-
Quick update:
As noted above, we only have one dedicated sketcher each day (and 2 colourists). Kat will sketch as well if there's a gap in her schedule.
Anyway, I've drawn up their schedules for the days.
On Saturday:
* Mike is scheduled for 10 sketches.
* Kat and Jason are scheduled for 5 colours each.
On Sunday:
* Neil is scheduled for 8 sketches.
* Kat and Jason are scheduled for 4 colours each.
We've got reserve lists for all of them as well, so if they get through their schedules faster than anticipated we may be able to fit in 1 or 2 extras. -

Well, typically in the past when we've attended an event like this the vast majority of players who show up have been CoH players. For whatever reason, we've not really had hordes of players from the other NCsoft titles attend. -

Some house-keeping before the weekend:
<ul type="square">[*]In case you missed it, the Memorabilia news post.[*]Draw the World Together General FAQ.[*]Draw the World Together colouring FAQ.
Please note that we have a last-minute change of schedule for the DTWT artists:
Kat Nicholson and Jason Cardy will be present on both days. Kat will concentrate on colouring, but may be available for sketching as well. Jason will be colouring both days.
Mike Collins will be present to sketch on Saturday only.
Neil Edwards will be present to sketch on Sunday only. -
This FAQ refers to the 'colouring service' first offered as part of Draw the World Together's presence at Comic Expo, Bristol in May 2008. If you haven't already, we'd suggest reading the original DTWT FAQ before reading this.
What do you mean by a 'coloured sketch'?
For the purposes of this FAQ, and in reference to the DTWT colouring service, a coloured sketch is a sketch that has been digitally coloured by professional colourists in exchange for a donation to charity.
Sketches that were created using colours as part of the initial sketching process are not considered part of DTWT's colouring service.
Who will be doing the colouring?
Kat Nicholson and Jason Cardy. Both are professional comics colourists with many published works.
How will colouring be done?
Your sketch will be digitally scanned (if not already available) and will then be coloured digitally in Photoshop by Jason or Kat.
How do I get a sketch coloured?
Simple - just ask whoever is currently responsible for dealing with DTWT at a show (Alex 'GhostRaptor' Weekes at Memorabilia 2008). Your colouring request will be added to the current colouring request queue.
Can I only get new sketches coloured?
No, you can get any sketch previously completed by a DTWT artist coloured. Simply bring the original sketch along to be scanned and coloured.
What if I don't have my original sketch with me?
All sketches that we have scanned (seen on Flickr and on the PlayNC Sketches Gallery) will be available to be coloured. However, to be safe (just in case of disastrous computer meltdown!) bring your original sketch if at all possible.
Can I get any drawing at all coloured?
Sorry, but no. We're currently limiting the colouring service to sketches that have previously been completed by the artists of Draw the World Together.
How much does getting a sketch coloured cost?
Sketch colouring costs the same as getting an A4 black and white character sketch done; a minimum donation of £15 per character being coloured. This is in addition to any donation already given for the sketch.
Pricing examples:
You get a single character sketched on A4, from provided reference. You donate £15 for this. Then you ask for that sketch to be coloured; you donate another £15, for a total donation of £30.
You get two characters sketched together on A4, from provided reference. You donate £30 for this (£15 per character). You ask for that sketch to be coloured; you donate another £30, for a total donation of £60.
You bring an existing sketch of a single character on A4. This sketch is scanned, and then coloured. You donate £15 for getting the sketch coloured.
What do I get to physically take home for my donation?
After being coloured, the finished coloured sketch will be printed for you on high quality, glossy A4 printer paper, suitable for framing. You can get additional prints if you wish (see below).
You will also of course keep the original black and white pencil sketch.
Can I get a digital copy of my coloured sketch?
Yes, and in two ways. If you'd like a high resolution JPG of your coloured sketch, you can collect that at the same time as you collect your sketch. You will need to provide a USB key or similar portable media storage device. (We will not burn DVDs or CDs during a show, sorry.)
If you don't have a storage device or don't mind waiting, then your coloured sketch will be uploaded to our Flickr gallery and the PlayNC Sketch gallery in time, at which point you can download a JPG for your own use.
Can I get additional prints of coloured sketches?
Yes; please ask when you collect your printed colour sketch. We ask for a donation of £5 per additional print.
What sort of reference should I bring for colouring my sketch?
As always, the more reference you bring for your character, the better. Obviously you need to supply colour imagery of your character, and the closer the colours are in your screenshots or printed reference to what you want to see in the final coloured sketch, the better.
To repeat our advice from the main FAQ:
[ QUOTE ]
To create good reference, first of all, take lots and lots of screenshots. Move the in-game camera to get at least four to eight angles on your character, showing front, back, sides and top if required. Make sure the character is dressed in the costume you want in the final sketch, or near as possible. Try to make sure you take screenshots in 'good light', and also preferably pose your character against a light background such as an in-game wall. Finally, if you want a particular weapon or power shown, draw it or activate it to give the artist visual reference.
When you have these screenshots, either print as many as you can or bring them to the show in digital form (ie on CD, USB key, etc). Do not assume you will be able to log in to the game! There have been many shows where this has not been possible.
Finally for ease of processing, write your name, your character's name and possibly a contact phone number on your reference so we know what's what and who is who.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can I ask for specific colours in my sketch?
Yes, within reason (in other words, ask the colourist about what you want and they'll see if they can accommodate). If your colour request radically differs from the original colours of your reference, it would be a good idea to bring a suggestion of what you'd like your colours to look like.
Can I see some examples of coloured sketches?
Yes indeed. Here is an example of Kat Nicholson's colours on two test sketches:
Here is an example of Jason Cardy's colours on the same two sketches. As you can see, Jason has two different 'styles' of colouring that he will happily use on a sketch:
Where can I get a sketch coloured?
Colouring may not be available at all shows we attend. We will announce ahead of each show whether or not colourists will be available. Our next show at which Kat and Jason will be colouring is Memorabilia 2008. We're afraid you have to attend the show in person if you want a sketch coloured. -
Questions about the wonderful world of sketches by the Draw the World Together crew.
What is Draw the World Together? How do they work with NCsoft?
Draw the World Together (DTWT) is a charity project run by Andrew Wildman. Since 2005 Andrew has been raising money on behalf of EveryChild, a charity that works for disadvantaged children around the world.
NCsoft is the official sponsor of Draw the World Together. As a result, various artists appear at shows we exhibit at, generously giving their time and energy for free to sketch your characters - or indeed, anything you want - in exchange for donations to the chosen charity.
How do I get a sketch?
It's a very simple process - just come to a show and ask for one! To be more specific...
<ul type="square">[*]Go to a show at which NCsoft is exhibiting, and which DTWT is going to be present (we advertise this in advance).[*]Bring reference for your character - printed screenshots or digital files are best, but often you'll also be able to login to our games to show your character 'live'.[*]We ask for a minimum £5 donation for sketch cards (Small, trading card sized sketches) and a £15 donation (per character in the sketch) for an A4 pencil sketch.[*]If you wish, you can ask for a specific artist that's present at the event to sketch your character. There is no guarantee this artist will be able to sketch your character, but we'll do our best depending on demand.[*]Often due to demand your sketch request will be entered into a queue with other sketches. You can leave and come back later to pick up your sketch, or you can hang around to see your character being drawn.[*]When your sketch is complete it will be scanned, so we can display it on the official PlayNC sketch gallery, and also on Flickr.
(Answer updated 19/11/08)
How long will my sketch take?
It depends on the artists, but most sketches are completed in 20-30 minutes once they're started. However, if your sketch is in a queue, ask an NCsoft staff member for an estimate on how long before your sketch will be completed. We try to get all sketches completed within show hours, but on rare occasions, this might not be possible. You may get a refund of your donation in these cases.
Can I ask for more than one sketch at once?
Absolutely, although we limit the number of sketches you can initially request to one per artist at any event. Any more requests you have beyond that number will go on to a 'reserve list'. When an artist finishes the sketches in their current queue, they will turn to their reserve list and complete those sketches in order. (This means there's a good reason to get your sketches onto the reserve list early.) However, if any sketch is on the reserve list we cannot guarantee it will be completed during an event.
(Answer updated 12/3/08)
Why have you started to limit the number of sketches I can request at once?
Quite simply, because demand for sketches has become so great. We want to ensure that everyone can have a chance to get a sketch, and from their favourite artist if they wish. While we highly appreciate that some people want a lot of sketches, we also want to ensure that as many people as possible get at least one sketch each.
Can I ask for a specific pose for my character in the sketch?
Yes you can. Generally speaking the artists can draw most poses, however they can reserve the right to not draw a specific pose or to suggest something else. Our advice is to go with their suggestions - they're the professionals.
Can I have my sketch coloured?
YES!! At some shows we attend, we will now be offering a DTWT 'colouring service'.
This service will be available at Memorabilia 2008.
(Answer updated 19/11/08)
Can I see some examples of sketches?
Hundreds of sketches are in our PlayNC gallery, and also on Flickr. If you'd like to see sketches by particular artists, follow these links:
DTWT sketches by Andrew Wildman
DTWT sketches by Mike Collins
DTWT sketches by Jamie Sims
DTWT sketches by Neil Edwards
DTWT sketches by Kat Nicholson
DTWT sketches by Al Davison
Do you have any tips for getting the best reference for my character?
Yes, and we're glad you asked.Supplying good reference can make the difference between a good sketch and a great one, so it's important to take your time and get it right. In addition, generally artists can start drawing a sketch faster if they have reference, instead of waiting for you to log in to the game.
How can I pay for my sketch?
Generally, cash is easiest... but we also accept credit and debit cards (minimum of £10 transaction). We do not accept cheques I'm afraid.
Note: credit/debit card may not be available at all shows.
I can't make a show; can I get a sketch?
There is no 'official' service for getting sketches outside of coming to a show. However, it is still possible. One easy way is to ask someone else going to a show to get a sketch for you. We'd highly recommend this as the easiest way to get a sketch without going to a show yourself.
Do you take donations more than the recommended amounts?
Of course, and we appreciate your generosity if you choose to do so! (For the record, our highest single donation ever was for £200.)
Does my entire donation go to charity?
Absolutely every penny donated goes entirely to EveryChild; there are no hidden 'admin fees' or similar.
Which artists have drawn for Draw the World Together in the past?
Lots of them! Artists who have sketched include (in no particular order): Andrew Wildman, Mike Collins, Jamie Sims, Neil Edwards, Andie Tong, Leigh Gallagher, Kat Nicholson, David Millgate, Al Davison, Tim Perkins, Doug Braithwaite, Dave Gibbons, David Lloyd, Boo Cook, Kev Crossley, Liam Sharp, John McCrea, Phil Winslade, Mark Dos Santos and many more.
Which characters can I get drawn, from which games?
You may ask for any character to be drawn from any NCsoft game.
Can I get a sketch of someone other than a character?
Yes; within reason. Just ask and we'll see if we can accommodate you. Our artists have drawn dozens of non-NCsoft sketches in the past and are happy to do so. A selection of these sketches can be seen on Flickr. -

Check to see if the updater is for the American or the Euro version - the correct one for you should say CohUpdater.EU.exe - if it doesn't have the EU part, then it emans you've downlaoded the American one by mistake, so you'll need to change it's name to include the EU part.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also make sure the shortcut you're using - if you use a shortcut - is pointing to the correct updater. If you installed from the downloaded client it will likely have created a shortcut that excludes the .EU part of the launcher filename and will therefore launch to the US servers.
You can either edit the shortcut via it's properties panel, or right-click the correct updater file to create a new shortcut. -

Confirmed this. Today, I fitted a CMI 8768+ based soundcard (Terratec Aureon 7.1), which is pretty cheap, but a big step up from the AC97 on the motherboard. When I was testing this before, I recorded a demo on a 6-man mission in Faultline to play back with different graphics and audio settings (so as to be viewing exactly the same piece of gameplay each time). Sound off, it's fine; sound on on the AC97, performance very poor; sound on on the new card, performance fine.
I dunno if we have a sticky, but I think it's well worth recommending that people with framerate problems in large teams try playing sound-off before they splash cash on posh graphics cards. A cheap soundcard upgrade may be all that's needed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Quick question, because AC97 is very commonly used and we're not seeing any wide spread reports (my own machine uses AC97 and I've not seen this problem):
Did you search for newer AC97 drivers and install them if found? -

Just because someone started an off-topic divergent discussion that is, arguably, classable as a personal attack against staff doesn't mean you have an open invitation to jump on the bandwagon. To say I'm pretty disappointed in the way this thread has turned out would be an understatement.
I've deleted a bunch of posts, but left most of the discussion from Miss_Chief's post onwards. Mainly because everyone needs to read that post, because it's spot on. Castle is the 'powers guy' and it is his responsibility to look after powers; having said that, however, changes on the scale of the PvP changes made for Issue 13 are changes that go through the entire team and the sign-off on implementation rests with more people than just Castle.
Edit: any further posts in this thread that are not related to Lighthouse's farewell message will be removed. -
Only thing I can suggest, then, is to contact the support team. They may be able to help you track down the problem.
