Quote:Very easy to check this, as that page doesn't really have the info you need. Here is my power supply:
http://www.directron.com/aps500.html
I couldn't find anything about the amperage rating, but I know we purposely bought a bigger power supply than we initially needed with upgrades in mind.
Thanks for all the replies so far. You've all been a big help. I really should spend some time becoming more knowledgeable about this stuff.
Open the case and take a look.
That picture of your power supply even shows the label, but the pic can't be zoomed in to read it. -
It's not the total wattage that is the significant factor, it is the amount of amperage available on the 12v rail, and that can only be discovered by you opening your case and taking a look at the power supply.
There should be a label there which lists this information. -
That is a significant upgrade from your 6600, and the performance will definitely reflect that, however have you made sure that you system meets the power requirements for this card?
-
........??
I'm confused.
What does showing the new character coming in I16 creator have to do with being able to play around without before closed beta? -

This is what happens when I go on a bender watching INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO. What with Castle caring and sharing on the "The Devs Hate..." thread, it got me wondering how BAB, Positron, pohsyb, and the other developers would answer the following (the mods can answer too!):
*****
1. What is your favorite word?
2. What is your least favorite word?
3. What turns you on?
4. What turns you off?
5. What sound or noise do you love?
6. What sound or noise do you hate?
7. What is your favorite curse word?
8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
9. What profession would you not like to participate in?
10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
*****
Come on, rednames... take a few minutes and tell us something about yourselves!
(Abraxxus, no answering for BAB, even if you two DO share a brain. And Arcanaville, please don't mathematically compute Castle's answers!)

PS - btw, Steelclaw, for your latest and greatest insanity, I challenge you to answer these for the rednames' characters.

...I think your best bet at this point is to get a better connection, if possible.
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably! Though most browsers that aren't IE should at least try to resume a broken or interrupted download, although that's not always an option. Will that not work?
In any case, if you were to buy the AE box edition, you'd only need to download I15 and a few patches. Should be under 200MB. Seems like kind of a waste if you've already paid, though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bwah???
A waste?
I think not.
For your $20, you get:
CoX with all updates up to I14
One month of paid game-time ($15 value)
One of the booster packs of your choice ($10 value) -

I'll be building a new rig for the new mechwarrior game anyway. I won't notice.

What new Mechwarrior game? I thought they gave up on that IP.

Nope. -
Yes, because we all have $600 bucks lying around.....

Well.....that has alot to do with the fact that I15 is pretty sparse as far as updates go.

..........ok, so it's not just me then.
I often find myself pitying the Warriors on Talos.
I'll often find myself stomping on the Freaks that seem to take such delight in tormenting them, only to of course also face the wrath of the Warrior in question.

Will you be needing a monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers?

Before the heat death of the universe.

Someone's optimistic.

Especially since some of the latest theories about the universe suggest that it periodically oscillates through Big Bangs, expansions, contractions then Big Crunches to endlessly repeat that cycle. Exactly the "death" of how many universes in the future are we talking about here?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes.
And somewhere in the multiverse, I am quite sure that some alternate version of me is already happily enjoying GR -
I have to chime in and agree with houtex.
I was tempted to respond to this thread earlier, but was held back by the extreme futility of trying to upgrade such an old machine with a PCI card of all things.
If the gift card doesn't expire, hold onto it.
If it does expire, you'd honestly be better off buying a printer or something. -

And what if this should continue to happen with my game discs when I don't have the luxury of downloading a client online?
[/ QUOTE ]
You could always buy a new copy of the game. If you buy the Architect Edition, you get one free month (value $15) and a free 'booster pack' (value $10). It will cost you about $20.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
Very, very much this.
You will also avoid having to download such a huge amount of updates, as it will be current up to I14.
How can all that not be worth $20? -
1)yes.
Our small SG uses it send weekly updated lists of the salvage that we have in the base storage.
Our members play all kinds of scattered hours, so this is a nice way to let someone know when a particular piece of salvage that they may have been looking for shows up, so they can save themselves a trip to WW. -
Not off, just set them to Low
-
Whew, ok, you had me worried for a second.
You're fine.

Choose the PSU related FAQ, then scroll down to the last question.
The 6 pin cable you're looking at is for a PCI-E videocard.
As for the 24 pin main ATC cable going into the 20 slot plug, you're fine there too.
Just make sure that the latch key engages. -
Which two plugs?
If the large plug has 24 pins, and the motherboard only has 20, you're still ok, but I'm concerned about the second plug. -

What if you won the Powerball and are going to travel the world?
Anyway, so long OP.
Hope things work out. -
No, what he means is that changing the motherboard with a different, yet still compatible model will cause Vista to mistakenly believe that you are running your licensed version on a different machine (which technically you are).
My suggestion would be to first contact customer support and see about transfering the key, although as houtex has noted, I have never heard of anything like this working out well for any Vista users.
The second step you could take, assuming step one craps out, is to get another copy of Vista, which is not an inexpensive purchase I'm afraid.
Then and only then could you succesfuly put in another motherboard (and no, it doesn't have to be an HP board, it just needs to be a MicroATX, socket AM2 board)
-
Alright then, leaving aside the question of further upgrades, the 8400GS is not at all suitable for playing titles like DoW2, Fallout3, or Bioshock, at least not at anything better than slide-show frame rates and extremely downgraded visuals.
I apologize if this seems harsh, but I honestly believe it would be worse to tell you otherwise and have you feel deceived.
Yes, it is technically over the minimum spec for some of those titles, but having played all 3 of those games on my own rig, I can personally attest that they are not at all forgiving of lower-end hardware.
