  1. Tutelary, obviously each order is it's own experience, but I have always had really good luck pre-ordering on-line. I have always gotten my product either the day before the scheduled release date or the day of. Really though it depends on the agreements between the store and the manufacturer. Whether you buy on-line or in a store though, you will be taking your chances.
  2. I thought that looked familiar, but I couldn't place it either. thanks GG.

Storyline wise, I know for a fact that there are better, stronger characters than him. He, along with the rest of the Phalanx, are just the most famous heroes. And saying he's the only archer with great skills and is willing to teach a select few makes it seem like all our heroes are sidekicks, paling in comparison to the greatness that is the Dev's very own characters. Yeah, no thanks.
Actually, I agree with you as far as Manticore goes. I personally believe he would be a bad choice as a Patron Pool. But the point still stands. If I were to design a Patron set it would be based on the Five Elements: earth, air, wind, fire, and void (the complete lack of the elements). I believe someone earlier in this thread had something similar in mind. It seems to me this would work pretty well. I would also add Lord Arachnos to the villain Patrons, but again, just my opinion.

*Ignoring the childish and unnecessary sarcasm now*

I never said that, I simply said that Manticore is THE ARCHER. He has the skills, the tricks, and the Mojo with a bow that almost no one else has. He is also willing to share it (with a select few). Your blaster archer (or any other AT for that matter) can not take him solo, and therefore could learn something from him. That reasoning makes for a good basis for unlockable Patron Pool Powers.

It is my personal opinion that Heroes should have a set of Patron Pool Powers in addition too Ancillary Pool Powers (as CoV soon will). That way people can make the choice in which way they want to go. This way if your blaster does want to learn from THE ARCHER, he can, or maybe he wants to expand in other ways.

But in the end, i guess this is my own personal opinion. Feel free to have your own.

I am not sure when they got this "mostly" fixed, but it still happens to me rarely. I can't seem to pinpoint any particular times it always happens so I haven't reported it yet.

I partly agree with you here, except that Manticore is THE ARCHER. Could your blaster take Manticore as an AV in a one-on-one? I think (and I could be wrong) that the whole idea of the Patron Powers was that someone learned how to use them just a lot better than everyone else and he has decided to teach others his techniques. Just a thought.

I too am happy to see a new box come out, I just don't believe it will bring in any significant new players. Instead I think that many older players like myself will buy it to make it easier to re-install the game when needed. I personally still have the CoV release disk and it is a pain downloading all the updates.

They should at least make a video series that talks about all the cool stuff they have coming up, and post it on some highly-frequented social network website.
Good points in your sarcasm except, where are these things being seen? I can't find a demo poster or display anywhere. Now just so you don't think I am some country bumkin, I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. Big city, lots of stores, NO CoX advertisement anywhere. I happen to look at a lot of gaming magazines and websites . . . almost nothing on the websites and less in the magazines for CoX.

These things Paragon Studios is doing to "advertise" now will NOT bring in any significant players.

I'm actually wondering if this is the toon he originally played the game with (which means we probably won't see it around much anymore). Nice look though and it would make a good Red Name.
  11. I didn't see anything really "new" here, but they finally put some real pictures to what I have been imagining up to now. I have to say they lived up to my imagination in this case, bravo! Not many have been able to do that.

I will agree with Capa Devans and the many others complaining about the lack of advertising though. That is disappointing.

Obviously not at the moment-- there are other things to focus on-- but how about down the road, would there be a chance to pick one of the signature heroes and by studying under them unlock a set of powers thematically related to theirs? Work with Manticore to hunt down Protean and be able to fire off a Teleport Arrow, for example, or help Positron save the Faultline Dam (again) to gain some radiation-manipulating technology. Who knows, since there are more top-tier hero characters than there are Recluse-Lieutenants, perhaps each AT could choose from 4 heroes, but not every AT would have the same 4. Posi could be available to blasters and defenders (and corrs eventually), maybe, while Citadel would help melee ATs.

This is of course just wishful thinking, but from a balance perspective, right now Villains can natively choose between APPs or PPPs, while Heroes only have APPs unless they switch sides. While the Villain PPPs are at least theoretically available to anyone, that is not the same as having PPPs for each side. This would be a great opportunity to introduce more variety in powers, either by giving specific powers to match a signature character's theme, or to give options that fit concepts that are currently neglected by epic pools (like radiation, for example).

Hero Patrons are something that make sense and could be fun, as well as giving existing characters more options.

(And a sudden thought grips me: Blue Steel patron arc...)
I thoroughly agree with you Doctor_Geist and thank you for a very well thought out post. Posi Rep to you Sir! (or Ma'am)

As for the the whole "Q & A Event" I have to say I am pleasantly suprised by the amount of information. The accepted questions were very well thought out to give us more new information as well as clarifying a lot of old information and even giving us a little history/developmental info.

I personally would like to thank Paragon Studios for doing a great job on this event. The time and effort are apparent and seems to be very well appreciated by almost all, if not all.
  13. Good info an all Kurrent, but did you have to bring back a thread that had been dead for two months? In the future a private PM would have be much better. Just my opinion.

Btw, a Posi Rep to you for the info and in the hopes you take my advice.
  14. Great info dude, thanks. Positive Rep for you for doing the work I didn't know I should have done.

EDIT: Well, I would have Posi Rep'd you, but you have it turned off.

I did a test just to be sure and for the three screenshots from a distance, you simply loose the detail of the small stuff like people and vehicles. It wouldn't suprise me a bit if they had to amp up the settings pretty high just to get the clarity that they did get. As for the sewers shot, I would hope not too many people are hanging out in the sewers. Lastly, the ground level view does show some people, just not many.

Another thing though, they may just not have much "background noise" going on in order to highlight the beauty of the zones themselves.

MorpheanRogue, making two possibly life or death comparissions to this issue is a little over the top. As I am sure you will agree if you take a longer look at the issue we are complaining about here.

Now folks, throw this under the heading of entitlement rant is your prefer, but here is why I feel I have a right to know what is in the patch, and in a timely manner, as long as it does not give away further exploits or game secrets of some sort:

First - I actually check to make sure the things they list are NOT affecting any of my characters. Not every time, but enough so I can send in notes if something is not working the way they say it should. I do this for myself only, but some of you benefit from it.

Second - I do not like to be the 3,000th person to report the same problem, so if I see it listed on the forums, I generally send in a very short PM to customer support instead of a long detailed one. I figure they don't need to waste much time that way.

And Third - It is MY computer that is being updated, I would like to know in a basic way what is happening. I don't find that unreasonable and neither should you if you think a little more about it instead of spouting off the vitroil.

Now, as for the I and E comment, I have no clue what your talking about, seems someone got your nickers in a twist though.

Not to nit-pick but 10 hours is NOT a slight delay. I think most people would agree that one or two hours is a slight delay, but 10 hours is nowhere's near slight.

You may call that an "Overview", but it seems most people on this forum disagree with you (as is everyones right, including yours to disagree with me). I especially do not see an "Overview" but instead a collection of "cut and pastes", a lot of bad editting thrown in, and no quality control.

I can't help but getting the feeling that they are trying to attract new customers by being mysterious, as well as, continue to entice the old and regular players. If that is the case: Attempt FAILED. At least that is what two of my friends told me this morning when they looked at the website and decided not to play for lack of info.

That frustrates me for the simple fact that I have never seen another MMO with more background than CoX and yet so little way to get the story on the website. Please do not talk to me about Wiki since that is not the "Official" web site and that is what my friends were looking at. They wanted to see what kind of detail was applied to the CoX and GR websites and were disappointed.

Oh well, just my opinion, feel free to disagree.
  20. Well, at least they finally posted the patch notes on the forums. They still don't have them on the webpage. If this one works like the last set of patch notes, it will be several days before that happens.
  21. I was so excited to see "New" information about Praetoria that I had to immediately click the links. I read the page three times and I have to say I am a little disappointed at the overall content. I would not say that I am a great author, especially since I have only been published twice, but I was very discouraged to see that they let someone put up the webpage that seems to be a first draft, not a final copy.

It seemed patchy, incomplete, and little more than restating what has already been put out there. If something had been submitted for publication was written in this same fashion, I am pretty sure they would not even get a customary "Your material is not needed at this time" sort of letter back.

All that being said, I will say that the screen shots were beautiful and I am looking forward to playing in this zone.

  23. I have to say that I like most of the things about the Mutant Pack, though I still feel the furry dog tail should have been a freebie for everone. The special power is probably my favorite part for a couple reasons, but the biggest reason is that chance for a mis-fire.

I mean, we always see the occasional mis-fire in a comic or a cartoon and yet most of our powers never allow for that. This gives me a personal sense of "OH *****!" every time I use it and for me anyways, it makes it more fun and even a little more realistic.

I don't like using real world examples much, but for this one I will. While in Marine Corps Boot Camp in 1992, we got the chance to "train" with live hand grenades (dummy grenades too, but that is another story). We were told how to hold it, how to disengage the safeties, how to position for a throw and throw it, and what to do if it was a bad throw (you really prayed it wasn't a bad throw even though you had a much older and more experienced Marine Drill Instructor there to help save your A$$ if you screwed it up).

Now I have to admit that having that kind of destructive power in your hand (and a little too close to the rest of my body as far as I was concerned) was AWESOME. But, a big part of the thrill was the chance you might screw up. Then what the heck would you do?

As it turned out I did screw it up, but thankfully in a good way. The adrenaline got pumping (and fear gets the heart moving it around pretty good) and I threw the grenade the wrong way which sent it WAY to far, out of the "normal" bounds of the grenade range. It made it all the way to a dead 80 foot oak about 30 feet beyond the range and managed to blow the dang thing up and make it fall into the "kill" zone of the range.

After taking a butt chewing from every single Marine Drill Instructor out there that day (and there were a lot more than usual it seemed), they decided the easiest way to clear the debree from the range was to blow it up some more and so every single recruit after me that day (about 250 since I was the second person to throw) got a stern lecture on what his target was that day.

All in all, we had a blast (no pun intended) that would not have been possible if I had not screwed up my throw. So this whole "get turned into a Rikti Monkey" thing is not only fine by me, but I can't wait for it to happen to me.

    -anyway-

We can learn a-lot from each-other and get more good things said and done without the red tape getting in the way.

I haven't seen anything on policy that forbids them from posting with alt accts...

they can put whatever they want into whatever package they want and sell it.

My beef is I want a finished quality product... and a new record player because I think mine is broken.
I agree completely, though I will point out that "we" the players would have almost no way of knowing if "Company" policy forbad them to post under a non-Red Name post.

It would actually make more sense if they were allowed (in a limited manner of course) and that is how we sometimes see someone hit the nail square on the head with a supposed guess. This way we get "warned" ahead of time without officially giving anything away.

    Anyways, just a thought.

Oh, and welcome to the forums Seth Fist

That's probably why it was moved back from July to Mid-August.

At least my annoyingly optimistic side keeps telling me that.

My pessimistic side keeps saying it was just to mess with me and make me so frustrated that I quit playing the game.

But of course I could not mean that much to them as an individual.

Then my paranoid side tells me the move WAS to make sure it is a better product AND to screw with me. The monsters!

Well, at least we have a firm date that can't be changed now. OMG, it can't be changed, can it? AHHHHhhhhhhhh!

OK, I'm better now, I took my medication.
