a netbook? Seriously???
I have an Asus netbook with an Atom 280 1.6ghz processor. I need to upgrade to 2 gigs of ram. I never imagined I'd be able to do anything in CoX with that thing. Heck, I'd be happy if I can just use the markets on my netbook.
I also await the information you get from your friend.
Thanks in advance. -

My wife sent me three Valentines links today. The first was to Tiffanys. The second was to Nordstrums. The third was a wikipedia link to John and Lorena Bobbitt.

"Right! So the first map in this player's arc had all those broken gas masks... that second room had all the empty vats of chili... that last room had all the neon signs flashing 'PWNZ' 'LOL'... and I KNOW that blur running by me just now was Synapse just before the emergency teleport power grids suddenly went offline. If they really expect me to clean up after these boys, I'm Going Rogue right now!"

She's my Carnival of Shadows. I'm her Freakshow.

I'll cry my own Well of the Furies from one eye, and Liquid FUNK from the other!!
In a freak mishap stemming from the misuse of bacon in a nearby particle accelerator, TPBM now has the power to cast a "Do Not Call" spell on telemarketing databases. And yes. You get Meat Vision too! Somebody's gonna take this Meat Vision, darn it! -
Dang it! My skull keeps getting in the way! I'll fix that TI-99 with my hands instead.
TPBM has the ability to turn all used chewing gum within a 300 ft. radius of himself/herself into expensive designer shoes by simply biting a sleeping ape's earlobe on Wednesday afternoons between 1pm and 4pm Eastern Standard Time while wearing a motorized beanie hat and neon orange and periwinkle striped biker shorts.
Upon activation of the power, if you survive the ape's wrath, the bitten ape will fall fast asleep and its ear will heal, you will lose your shoe alchemy power, and will then be granted.... Meat Vision! -
Okay it was December 23rd and I was Ninja Running my mid level hero down the streets of Peregrine Island to Portal Corps with the intention of getting a Raptor Pack from Fire Base Zulu.
Well the radio was on and Spongebob's "Don't Be a Jerk. It's Christmas!" started playing, which drove me insane. At which point, I noticed a 42nd level "Rubble" DE underling standing on the outside parameter of the sandbags (opposide the side of the door where Tina MacIntire stands).
I decided to slap that little critter with Radiation Emission and then I ran inside with a giggle. Of course, the power terminated when I entered the building, so thinking nothing more of it, I went on to the Shadow Shard to get my flight pack.
Upon re-emerging from the portal back into the building, I noticed all but one hitpoint missing from my health bar! I wasn't about to stand there waiting to see what caused the damage, so I flew up into the hallway and waited by the door the the outside of the building.
All of a sudden, here comes this little freakling (twenty four levels above me) running up and preparing to lob a boulder at me! Kapow!! I'm now one with the chewing gum on the floor. Fortunately there was a 43rd level brute to slowly defeat little Barney.
How the heck did that little creep get in there? Should buildings have a death barrier inside similar to those around consignment shops? I've also been chased down and electrocuted by about seven Clockwork when they followed me into the police station in Kings Row. I swear that I was minding my own business that time, but I think they were part of an ambush that went too far! There was no use calling for security. When it's lunch time... forget about it! -
I don't see this as being any less useful than the PVP system for people who don't PVP, the MA system for people who don't like the MA system, or even the offline day job system for people who don't care about the badges, accolades or buffs. The people who do use those systems enjoy them well enough, however. I do like the caveat of having to be "at the keyboard" in order to get the buff/emote/costume though. I think being forced to do something that breaks the emersion of "hanging out" like having to click on the ground to whack a gopher every ten seconds may be fun for some and annoying for others. It would draw a more active crowd though.
As for being a bribe to visit a zone, that's exactly what I intended. Some groups do enjoy gathering in remote places to hold certain events that aren't fitting to be held at a super base. This active day job system would provide added incentive to occupy "hot spots" for the sake of livening up under-used zones as well as more active zones. It would also give people who like special emotes or costumes something to play with when they don't feel like running missions. The other point of this is to promote the idea of life when you're not being a "super!"
It's not meant for everyone as most players would probably just run from mission to mission until they're tired and log off. This is for those who want a break from combat but still feel like interacting in some way, show off their new outfits, hold events and contests and maybe get a buff to take to the next mission.
I will admit that this system, like many of the existing systems would see less use on sparcely populated servers. If anyone has ideas about how to make it more active, you have the floor! It's something that would be there for anyone to use so the more input, the better. -
After hanging out at the Winter Chalet recently, I've come to realize that City of Heroes/City of Villains has an active downtime community. I've been exposed to people who are happy walking around in plain clothes while doing what heroes and villains do when not fighting each other. I figured that if zones could motivate players to gravitate toward them, more people who are resting from a TF or who are looking for new friends to team with could hang out in otherwise vastly unpopulated zones and maybe get something for it. Thus, my idea: Active Day Jobs! It's my general term for participating in an activity that is not related to being a superhero/supervillain. However if the current day job themes could be incorporated, that would be great.
What if zones actually "attracted" us for something other than combat based events such as raids, giant monsters and burning buildings? Active Dayjobs might bring a social element to the game that otherwise exists on only one or two servers. I'm not talking about having a zone fall into ruin if neglected or physically changing based on player interaction like Recluse's Victory though.
Imagine a group of ten or more people gathering around a specific group of benches at a specific park in a specific zone for a specific amount of time. The group would unlock that location's temporary buff granting aura (or temporary emote granting aura) which would stay active for a short time. Anyone who enters that location before the "granting timer" runs out could get the buff or emote. The buffs could be the same as those from the supergroup base empowerment stations I suppose. Remember, this is for downtime when you don't feel like running missions but still want to hang out in-game!
I like the idea of a character posing as a street musician using an emote to play an acoustic guitar (or cello). If enough people camped out in that area long enough, they would activate that areas's temporary endurance boost granting aura. This aura would be on a timer and would give maybe a 1 hour endurance buff based on the buff given by the SG base empowerment station. Perhaps the acoustic guitar (cello) emote could also be obtained here or at a similar location in another zone.
I figured that certain "theme" buildings or locations in a zone could unlock a temporary emote related to that theme. For example, having ten people standing around a motorcycle shop long enough would cause the area to grant a "sitbike" emote that lasts for an hour or so. When the building's "emote granting aura" is unlocked, any player who made it to the location before the "granting aura" expired would get that emote. /e sitbike would pop up a motorcycle that the player would straddle and sit on (facing forward) or lean on (facing perpendicular 90 degrees away from the bike) until the player interrupted the emote... like the /e laptop emote.
There could also be "temporary" costumes (like the Halloween one piece costumes). These would last until that character logs off and would be granted by many players hanging out at a certain location related to that theme for a certain amount of time (five minutes?). Examples could be a black and white striped prision uniform or undercover cop costume for heroes hanging out inside a police station or a "Family" gunner costume for villains staying inside or near the Marcone building in Port Oakes, or some designated spot in Sharkhead Bay, Nerva or St. Martial. I'd ask for gender specific costumes but enough is too much already.
There can be only one or two unique places like this per zone so that people would have to visit different zones to get the different temp emotes, temp buffs and temp costumes.
I wanted to make this appealing to more than just roleplayers (I'm still 80% SMASH!), hence the temp buffs. Yet, I'd also think it would be cool to hop into Potter's Field or Dark Astoria and see a large group of future grave diggers hanging out while they wait for their temporary "gravedig" emote "OR" one hour (non-combat) Mask of Death or Totem boss pet summoning ability.
Personally, I'd like to unlock temporary emotes of rock band instruments (bass, lead guitar, drum set, keyboard, and microphone on micstand). These could be obtained either by hanging out at the ampitheater in Perez Park or the PaWN shop in Kings Row (is there an ampitheater or pawn shop in the Rogue Isles?). These won't make any sounds! If they did, they would be unpopular very quickly. My friend wishes she had a band at her mock wedding in Talos. Maybe the ampitheater could grant temporary costumes that resemble characters from the works of Homer and Shakespeare?
On another note... Please, you wonderful, great smelling, sexy and socially captivating developers! Please consider selling temporary band instrument emotes at the consignment shops and black market or maybe a rockband/theater booster pack with those instrument emotes and clothing? Name it "Band and Stage" -
New event=Zombie Apocalypse (just under three months ago)
New? Faction... 5th Column was removed but came back due to popular request (probably doesn't count)
New ATs=Claw brutes and electric melee scrappers are new even if the power sets aren't
Going Rogue is "supposed" to have Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols
The MA system allows us to make any faction we want. The risk vs. reward for engaging the multitude of customized adversaries is debatable (biting my tongue), but it's still content that we can create at any time on our own.
Quote:Like I said, I'm pretty much over this game. It's gotten old and stale. Here is to hoping GR breaths some life into it for people like me.
I think that when it comes to that point, one really needs a greater mental or physical challenge than a game can provide; something that he has to train to master that puts him up against a thinking entity like martial arts or (gulp) dating!
I stay around because of the longtime friends I've made in CoX. When I need more, I hit the gym instead. It's amazing how many women (real women) will walk up to you and actually wanna talk while they work out next to you. You can keep Desdemona! She can summon demons but she'll never let me spot her while she does sit-ups.
Mind you, I'm not trying to single out or pick on JDub. I just know a lot of people who said what he's saying now. They spend their time bouncing from game to game in search of fulfillment. I've known some of these people for over ten years and they're still trying to satisfy something that is unsatisfiable. -
Darn! So CA, the antivirus program that Tigerdirect pestered me into buying, is what's blocking the game from running?

The original poster of the link above had the same problem and fixed it. I thought I updated all the drivers using the original manufacturers' versions (not Windows update ones). I suppose I'll have to uninstall and reinstall everything to make sure of that. Beyond that, any help would be appreciated.
I'll admit that I don't know what I'm doing in Win7 (I'm used to XP 32bit). I also haven't downloaded hijackthis just yet. I'll be back to try this again tomorrow evening.
Happy Holidays everyone,

Hercules (1983) was on television last night and I was in awe over the similarities in Cerces and Desdemona's costumes... except for the lack of a magical tattoo and dark clothing. What do you think? Was someone watching this movie before our new lady rogue was sketched into existence?

Jay, we know you'll get to the bottom of this. And even though I've never met you, I can tell by your text that you must be sexy. -

I remember (back when electric blasters had only two tasers strapped to their wrists for powers) when 40k inf was a lot of money to a hero at security level six.
Grats on winning! Now buy that blimp so they'll let me aboard! -
Level 50s who aren't on a team could use the Ouroboros portal and select the arc that sends them to Vanguard but that doesn't work if you're on a team or you aren't lvl 50.
I think your idea would be great for mothership raids when you need to get there in a hurry. Why not. -
The fake story I posted up in the Issue 15 discussion forum "Dr. Aeon Arrested! Architect Entertainment Closed!" (which I now realize should have been posted elsewhere) was an attempt at a way the devs could throw a curve ball into the MA system once in a while.
This could be activated now and then, not to slow Power Leveling down (since you can already PL anywhere) but to make the MA system "feel" more like the classic style of heading to a hide-out to take down a goody goody or filthy mc nasty.
Please keep in mind that I propose this as an "event" that happens maybe every two to three months like the rikti invasion weekend we have running today. Also, I apologize if I repeat myself too much below. I have that attention... thing.
If AE was "temporarily" shut down pending the outcome of some investigation, little VR houses would certainly spring up (think Prohibition and secret drinking clubs) as a way for Supers to feed their holo-addiction.
So, what if an anonymous person (Countess Crey) took steps to set up one VR location accessible ONLY by using a circuit board style token or "key" which was ONLY made available via the consignment shops/black market at a cost of 1 Inf? These tokens (an endless supply) would stay on the market for forty-five minutes before being pulled. This should provide enough time for someone not in a Task/Strike Force to grab one off the market. I suppose a message could pop up similar to Rikti invasion messages for when Countess Crey submits a new batch of tokens).
After purchase, the token would exist until a new batch appeared on the market. At such time, the existing token would then disappear (explode, crumble, evaorate, melt... you get the point). At such time, you could get a new one!
The token would unlock a VR house beacon somewhere in the zone in which the token was purchased. Once you get into a VR house, you (and anyone else on a team having one player holding a token) could use that location for selecting arcs to play. However, once Countess Crey submits a replacement batch of tokens to the market, the current VR house would shut down and no new missions could be obtained from that location. If you logged out inside a mission from that house and logged in after the house has moved, your mission will have been removed from your cue.
The tokens would remain on the market for 45 minutes before being pulled, and this event would reoccur randomly every one to two hours. All tokens bought from the same event in a particular zone will lead everyone (holding a token or teamed with a player having one) to the same building in that zone. There will only ever be one VR house at a time per event per zone. Therefore, it would be a good idea for players to be in various zones so that someone can unlock the door to the VR house in those zones.
The catch is that the missions offered by these VR houses would be restricted to the level ranges of zones in which they exist. Moreover, your combat level would be automatically set to the team leader's level, which would in turn be affected by restricted by the zone's level range.
So, you could be a true combat level 5 player at a VR house in Peregrine Island or Grandville raised up to 50 yet you'd only have the powers available at level 5. Or you could be a true combat level 50 player in Kings Row or Port Oakes only having access to the powers you'd have if you were level 5 to level 9 as an example... like a preset task/strike force level range.
In a nutshell, I think this would bring more players to the Consignmenet shop/Black Market truck if for nothing other than buying a VR house token/key. This would add a twist to the MA system, and also encourage players to get to know all the zones because a VR house would spawn in random sections within a zone. If you wanted to hang out and beat up the locals in the area while you're there, various villains and do-gooders are always standing by; ready to serve you.
Again, I don't propose this to be a replacement for the current MA system. I see it as an "event" that happens once in a while like Zombie/Rikti invasions. Originally I thought it would be cool if it was triggered by completing some new Crey TF/SF, but I think it would disrupt people's using the AE building too much and would be an annoyance. I'd rather see this happen for a day or two every two months or so... just to stir things up a bit.
It's just an idea. I'm not asking to replace anything... just change it up temporarily every so often as kind of a lore driven... thingy. Please don't all go "David After Dentist" on me at once! -
Being stuck in Maryland, reading all this just makes me want to cry.
I wish these costumes would be released (together or one at a time) as Booster packs. At least that way, instead of us getting the actual code, it would be bound directly to our account, and NCsoft gets all the profit.
From what I see of the pic, the KoA costume (short blond hair) is different from the Halloween event version (who had the brunette Glam hairstyle) and I'd love one for both of my accounts as well as the Freakshow Boss and the Carnie Harlequin.
I got birthday money to buy a PPD Hardsuit from Ebay for more than a year's worth of CoH fees. If they knew how I spent that money, I'd be sprayed with Essense of Snausage and strapped to a tree in the forest.
I know it has been repeated time and again that these items are supposed to be "exclusive." But come on! If you're going to advertise it like this, knowing that attendance is limited, only one code will be issued per person and the venue is ALWAYS on the west coast, it is (yes, in my opinion) not only unfair but a bit of salt on a wound that gets reopened everytime there is a convention. Some of the attendees may or may not care about the item, but there MANY MANY more who (as proved by Ebay's prices) are absolutely feverish over getting them.
Costume Booster Packs!!! NCsoft makes its money and we get to have a costume ball dressed as our favorite hero/villain group all year round.
I'd still do the trick or treat mini game every Halloween event whether I had the outfits or not! I find ToT'ing fun and my new characters want the badges and the Halloween salvage anyhow!
GIMME please!!!!
EDIT:
I just bought the Super Science Booster pack for both of my accounts. At least now I have access to all the male and female costumes I've made to be used on all my characters. -
I wonder if this would be a good time to address the "crab spider build's legs showing up on the bane build" issue?
[Cloaks and dives into the back of a truck...]
[peeps back in just long enough to say...]
I mentioned it because I found that the Halloween costumes mask the spider legs, however the energy blasts overhead just happen out of thin air in that case.

[/ QUOTE ]One would think you'd have the sense to occasionally check on your arcs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Many more might expect the game to work well enough that one wouldn't have to check on an arc after it has been published. Sense has little to do with it. However reading patch notes for changes to the MA system does help. Such posts have been made by devs in the past. Those who keep up with the forums may also realize that the devs have been tweaking critters, objects, etc which could make an arc completely invalid. Knowing this, it IS probably a good idea to test your arcs periodically.
And yet, with all the bugs, this is one of the least buggy MMOs I've played and one of the few games I've seen that tries to fix things out of schedule rather than make us sit in game breaking code for an annual quarter. Some were games that didn't even do server maintenance unless there were major global issues which affected everyone at once.
I have a few pet bugs myself like the chat channels resetting and the mouse-over tips not appearing when viewing recipes, but they'll get to them eventually provided we /bug them into oblivion... and then wait more than we might like.
If any of you get into the closed beta for Issue 16, don't just play it. Test it early and often.
