Quote:Yeah...using a cashier job as an example of why math is important is probably about the worst possible way to motivate kidsI remember being in Elementary school a lil over a decade ago, just as the internet and computers that could handle it were becoming common place in households. I remember a teaching angrily explaining that math "Was so too a relevant thing to teach! After all, let's say you're working a cashier job, there's a black out, and your customers insist on buying things and getting exact change anyway..."
Shortly after, I stopped trying in my math classes. -
Pretty badass..but would this mean there's tracks leading directly to the Autobot base?

Seriously. I practically have the entirety of humanity's accumulated knowledge accessible on a 5"x2" device in my pocket. Tell me again why i need a 40 lbs, two thousand page book (that gives definitions, etymology, pronunciation and spelling of words in only ONE language) threatening to crush whatever furniture I put it on?

I can only go by the mind-numbingly bad commercials Cablevision puts out with jingles that ensure that the phone number to order will burrow in into your brain like that bug from Wrath of Khan...get all 3 services for $90 a month. But that's in the Northeast, where FiOS is expanding their footprint pretty quickly.

@Ultraamann
I don't think Bruce taking off the cowl as long as he's alive (and capable) is even an option for DC brass. After all, they've said many times in interviews that Bruce is the mask, Bats is the real persona. -
One of the benefits of working for the cable company that serves the area you live...free tv/internet/phone.
But yeah...most ISP's charge about $30 a month for broadband internet, and that's stuck at your house.
-
There's a bunch of sensors jammed into those things...one of the first "for the hell of it" apps I got when I first got my old G1 was a mock-up of a Star Trek TNG tricorder. Could read magnetic flux, among other things
-
I can understand not wanting to pay it...money is money after all, but I don't think a company expecting payment in exchange for services rendered rises to the level of extortion.
My plan is in that $30 bucks on top of cell service range, but I look at it like this...it's the same as a cable company or FiOS charging you for internet access on top of your tv package. Sure it all comes in on the same cable/fiber, but there is additional support/infrastructure required to keep the internet connection working above and beyond the basic tv. -
Batman, Inc. Bruce and Dick are both going to be Batman...Dick's gonna be Gotham based while Bruce takes it more global. I linked to IGN in my "tale of 2 batmen thread"
-
Remember that thread about Bat's "new" outfit? Well, turns out he's keeping the old one, too.
Bruce *and* Dick are both going to be Batman, thus sayeth Dan DiDio over on IGN Bruce gets the yellow oval emblem, Dick keeps the plain black bat. -

Quote:I think it's just people that haven't actually used one of the newer ones. The 4 in screen on my Vibrant is plenty big, for the way I use it. I think people may be thinking of how they use their pc/laptop...that's not the way most people use a smartphone. You're not going to be sitting in front of it for hours on end. You're generally going to be holding it, maybe 18-24 inches away, for an hour at most.I don't understand the fixation with the need of a bigger screen aside from I guess having bad eyesight...but I get just as much detail on my phone as I do my computer as far as YouTube goes. If I'm watching something that's **** quality on my phone, it'll be the same quality on my PC...just on a bigger screen.
It's not something you're using when you have the option to use something bigger, or need to be on for hours at a time....although I was reading on the kindle app at home till I killed the battery and had to plug in one day....was a good book.
edit- Now that I think about it...I think the screen's about the same size as the screen on my PSP -
I played another MMO that came out a couple of years ago that had a character class called a Disciple. Was basically a Monk with less dps and heals/buffs. Could do certain combo's to heal a friendly target, itself or the group all the while dealing damage and maintaining buffs or debuffs. Was a really fun class to play.

I don't get the negative attitude here. If someone wants to get something, and wants opinions on the various choices, why do others feel the need to try and convince them not to get one at all? They've already considered the "none of the above" option.
Sure, some see them as an extravagance, and maybe they are in most cases. So are videogames, movies, television, comics, (insert hobby here). Also, besides variable levels of practical usefulness, they're entertaining and fun. Having the internet in my pocket alone is damn handy, never mind the rest of the stuff my Vibrant can do.
edit
As for the OP, I don't know much about the Droids. I've got the t-mobile variant of Samsung's Galaxy series. I had the original G1 before that, mainly because it had a physical keyboard, and I've tried typing on an iphone and my hands are just too big to use it comfortably. But the Vibrant has a 4in screen and that new touchscreen keyboard input method called Swype. You just have to drag your finger through the letters of what you want to type and it figures out what word you want. Battery life is pretty good and it's fairly slim. No flash on the camera. It's probably about the same or a bit faster spec-wise as the droids. I don't think anything other than the Nexus1 has the latest version of the android OS (2.2), but will have it before the end of the year...that'll add support for Flash. -

Quote:Marvel Studios. Nuff said. It'll be good. All the bad Marvel movies aren't done by their in-house studio, who's done all the good Marvel movies.Done right, Iron Fist could be such a cool movie. You've got a mystical city, some kick-*** martial arts fights, a good solid lead character, and so much backstory built into K'un L'un now that you could craft almost anything out of it. You really wouldn't even need to go too much into CGI and effects. Something for the dragon when Danny actually gets the Iron Fist, and a little for the effect when he uses it. But, beyond that, I think they'd be best served by keeping it grounded and realistic. Which of course means they'll try to make it into a bloated effects-laden CGI monstrosity that will suck *** and completely ruin the character. *cough* Ghost Rider *cough*

Presidential emmy point!

The same place as everything else that disappears/reappears in the Marvel U..."An undisclosed extradimensional source". Like the hundreds of pounds of mass that Hulk gains in his transformations...
-
People really did trash Valve for Steam in it's early days, but more and more it's proving to be one of the best things to ever happen for the health of PC gaming.
-
Wasn't even really the fanboyism...just that response of "see it anyway for x,y,z even if you can't stand the lead actor" came off way over the top to me, someone who doesn't have strong feelings one way or the other towards the guy.

Quote:I think the classy thing to do would be standard spoiler warnings. As I said before, the OP said "minor spoilers" and listed the first twist. GG gave no warning. That's why I'm upset.
For heaven's sake, put "Spoiler Warning" in a thread and you can post whether Snape is good, who shot J.R., the identity of the Smoke Monster, and why Count Olaf hates the Baudelaire orphans for all I care.
To do so without a warning is crass.
Even worse, to do it with the intent of "winning" an internet argument. -
Quote:Even with all of the more blatant trolling going on in this thread, I must agree. And within three posts of the OP too :/
I'd ask you to edit it, but it's already been quoted, so it wouldn't do much good.
Plenty of spoilers in that list...things i didn't know about yet in the story, is the definition I'm using by the way, GG. -
Quote:No...they're mostly happy with the way it works, but there was nothing to do with the new powerlevel gained from the Alpha slot. If it had gone live as it was, it would have seemed like pointless grinding, and there'd be much wailing and gnashing of teethI thought they pulled it as Posi was not happy with the feel of it and wanted it really shine, and not be a tacked on affair.
When it comes back, it'll likely be with only numerical changes, if even that much.
