Besides, by the time MUO comes out, I'll be more than ready for the switch, as I'm sure most of us will be.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's one. How many to follow?
Oooo look, the marvel MMO lets me do X, CoH/V doesn't. Oooo, the marvel one has better performance cuz it's written under the heavy guidance of MS and thus will be coded in D3D... heading out. Oooo, the marvel one let's me be a wolvie clone without getting the smackdown by the mods. 50K players exodus.
Sorry folks, not seeing an upside here.
Unless Cryptic intentionally makes the combat system completely different and uses the extra advertisement to gain more players.
Whatever. We'll see. For now, I'll maintain my pessimism.

Bill, can I ask you a serious question?
How long do you want City of Heroes to exist without a sequel? As it is now, with just issues and perhaps future expansions to sustain it?
I've been here since day 1 and even I most likely will want a sequel in another year or two. Simply adding more graphic effects onto three year old code just leads to more bugs.
In the 2-3 years it'll take for this Marvel MMO to be developed, beta'd, and released, I fully expect CoH's lifespan to be towards it's end. I'll be here until the servers get shut down, but expecting more than 4 years of life out of a MMO in this day and age is asking for too much. -

"Gee, let's have 2 superhero MMOs! We'll compete with ourselves!"
Thus diluting both player bases.
[/ QUOTE ]
Doesn't Sony have like 4 different fantasy MMOs?
That's like saying Lineage II's fanbase dilluted Lineage 1's...
Or that everytime Marvel releases a superhero game for PS2, it's diluting the fanbase. -
To me, the villain group that becomes a major threat to both sides will be Rikti with the unleashing of the Rikti Homeworld zone...

I forewarn you about this post: I'm riding the percocet pony after getting a wisdom tooth pulled.
But does the number of IoPs you currently have affect the difficulty of the trial itself? Last time we have inconclusive evidence that it does. Carl and Sons did it with a team of 8 with two IoPs in under 15 minutes. Then we went back instantly and restarted it with the same team, only now with 3 IoPs, and the trial was substantially harder.
Is this normal as a prevention of mass farming of IoPs? Or did we get caught in a bug?
Tomorrow night, CaS' test villain group, the Corporate Slaves, will be testing things out for the first time on villains. We are going to post EVERYTHING we find during our run: spawn times, enemy kinds, open attack window times. If we find something out tomorrow night, you find something out. -

Will GvE's VIP card unlock the tiki room in the Pocket D? If so, will there be another way to get in, such as by giving the badge out as a veteran reward, too?
[/ QUOTE ]
The VIP Teleport Card teleports you directly to the Tiki Room. This much was confirmed on the UK site.

Why are the Brits getting info before us?

Because they have Bridger... and we have Cricket... -
Thank you, thank you!
I remember back when I only had 4 slots on Pinnacle... -

No one has explained yet why its a DEVELOPERS problem that people dont look at their [censored] tray?
[/ QUOTE ]
Answer this question. Before the original change removing rewards from the Phalanx, how many empty tray slots did you need to recieve your shoe?
If you said 1 or 2, you are way off. From what I understand, you had to have 3 slots open. (or was it 4?). The original version had some unfortunate effects that made it ridiculously easy to lose your shoe. The quick fix to remove rewards was bad because it killed big inspirations.
This is a good change. Not perfect, but it's still good.

The problem came in the fact that Statesman's SO drops were random and unexpected.
Going into it, you'd think you'd get 1 SO for each AV. The first time we did it, we had everyone clear 2 spots at the end before taking down Statesman. The result? Statesman dropped 4 SOs, blocking those with 2 open slots from HOs.
An easier fix would have been to just limit States to 1 SO drop, but this fix is better, especially if people can still get a reward for doing the SF before the 24 hour timer is done. -
Grats to PBB for hitting 50 with PBB-Energizer, dinging off taking down Mynx in the Vindicators map of the LRSF.

Great guide, and not just because I've been on the teams where you researched this info!

A fix for Group Teleport will be coming in I8.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which would be ... replacing the power with Teleport to Waypoint?
Yeah, yeah. I can dream.
[/ QUOTE ]
If they make Group TP like the Recall Team temp power from Mayhem Missions, I'd be all over that like a hobo on steak. -

[ QUOTE ]
This may have been covered already, but any idea when the Hero side version of the LR TF will be implemented instead of the Hami hunt? I8 maybe?
[/ QUOTE ]
This is a feature of I9
[/ QUOTE ]
Positron, will issue 8 or issue 9 also finally give heroes a TF to do via the base mission computer? -
[ QUOTE ]
I just want the trams to start working right again.
Posi. New content is great, but what long term players really want is for things like this to be fixed. It worked forever, then it broke, and has seemingly been ignore ever sense. I'd be happy if you announced that Issue 9 was entitled "Bug Hunt" and contained zero new content, but was instead a thorough cleansing of as many bugs as possible.
No new bugs til we fix the existing ones. Sound like a plan?
[/ QUOTE ]
Uh. No thanks.
There's only a handful of bugs a person might find throughout normal play. Not enough to warrant an entire issue devoted to fixing them, no matter how much the forum overblows their existence. -
Grats to Luna's stone brute, Heartsmasher, who dinged taking down Back Alley Brawler.
-
Positron, thank you for addressing that part of the LRSF problem.
Now can we get some kind of official word on if the last mission is how you guys want it to be? Because we've had people post videos of the last mission being a unicorn and fairy-laden teaparty cakewalk through easy land with rad corruptors while teams that dare to bring stalkers and dominators are doomed to failure.
Is this intentional? If Hamidon's secret was holds, are we resigned to the fact that we must bring at least one rad corruptor to a LRSF or be faced with the debt cap, with having to rely on PvP zone temp powers, with having to break the game with stacked vengence, with having to reset the mission repeatedly by logging out if we get a bad pull?
Is the fact that the last mission of the game is horribly immersion-breaking and difficult for one team yet a non-factor and easy as pie for a team with 2 or more rad corruptors and a stone brute by design? Are the VGs that powerlevel up rad corruptors really getting rewarded for doing so? -
Grats to CP for getting his first level 50 villain with NinjerMonkey, his ninja mastermind.
-
Grats to Infinite Bunnies on his first level 50, Candance Berloni!

Question for those who've tried it: does the reactor continue to take damage from the radiation after you finish the trial?
It could be a simple case of the devs not wanting to leave open a doorway for people to camp the reactor for hundreds of hours to get the healing badges on a non-healing toon. -
[ QUOTE ]
Devs: Double XP for everyone!
Players: DOOOOM!
I still don't get it.
[/ QUOTE ]
The devs can give us free pony rides and candied apples via UPS on demand, but people would claim it's doom because they'd rather ride go-karts and get caramel apples. Or they are allergic to horses and candied apples hurt their teeth. Or they heard that the candied apples are better in WoW and the horses have shinier hair in Guild Wars.
Some people complain about what the game needs. Other people complain that the game is fine and doesn't need anything. You cannot please both these groups of people at the same time.
It's an interesting casestudy for Pysch majors. -

There's no pleasing some people.

Some people like to "act" outraged to get attention, too.
So they can never be pleased. -

I'd like to echo remarks from others that it is [/b]rude[/b] to be doing this on the same weekend as the San Diego Comic Con.

Rude? Really?

Yeah, NC Soft. Pin a rose on your nose!
How Rude!
You'll be hearing from my lawyer, Mr. Bear.

[ QUOTE ]
I'll be at the San Diego Comic-Con that weekend
[/ QUOTE ]
Ohhh, another theory.
Many good reasons why this is happening:
1. People liked the PvP events on test and this is the live compromise.
2. To balance the Cathedral of Pain trial with villains.
3. To recover from the PR disaster the layoffs were.
4. To compensate for the global bugs.
5. To try to retain some players over the weekend during Comic Con, most likely the BIGGEST convention that would hit our playerbase all year.
Either way, I'll be playing all weekend attempting to get my level 40 brute to 50 in 3 days. Good times! -
Are Malta really portrayed as evil in-game?
It's a grey area. Not unlike Civil War in the Marvel Universe right now. To them, they are just trying to protect everyone from metahumans, even if their means of doing so might come off as a little heavyhanded. -

Double XP has been something other MMOs have done
[/ QUOTE ]
That explain...a bit. Maybe they have a BBM survey team coming this week-end to register the active playerbase heheheh
[/ QUOTE ]
You know, I have the reputation of a fanboi here, but even I can see this in a cynical light.
Look at the way this was announced. NC Soft told video game newsites before they told us here at the forums.
So perhaps this is just a way to get some good PR in the video game media to try to band-aid the wound caused by news of the recent NC Soft layoffs.
I think this weekend has very little to do with Cryptic or City of Heroes in particular. This seems to be a strictly NC Soft PR move. -
[ QUOTE ]
why?
[/ QUOTE ]
Probably because the devs took notice of how popular the PvP events were on test where you make a character and instantly leveled up to 40.
Obviously the devs wouldn't let us instantly make level 40s (at least not yet, perhaps they might one day), so this appears to be a compromise. -

So many opportunities, but some people see nothing but sour grapes. It's hard to believe.
[/ QUOTE ]
Honestly, it's not.
Every facet of this game has been complained about to some extent. In that vein, every facet of just about EVERYTHING has been complained about to some extent since the internet came about.
The internet is a place where geeks get together to share pornography and complain about video games.
