  1. Is anyone else having an issue with verifying badges for badge-hunter using HeroStats post issue 16? I load up the app and it just gives me a blank screen until I zone somewhere, then it just lists a single power and a single badge.

Should I wait for an update or might this be a problem on my PC?
  2. With issue 16 I'm very excited that most of my epic badge trackers have come to fruition and I now have almost all of them. All of them... except the last two infamy badges. Stupid me ran for 2 years in SG mode to earn prestige for my villain group, so now I'm stuck at 174 million out of 250 million needed for the second to last badge.

Just floating this out there to brainstorm some ideas: what would be the easiest way to earn infamy for these badges on a level 50 corruptor? Ideally I would want to do most of it solo, but I'm definitely up for SFs.

Which SF would generate more cashflow: the ITF, the Recluse Strike Force, Lady Grey, Barracuda, or any of the main villainside SF?

What would be some good flashback story arcs without EBs or AVs in them a solo corruptor can run?

With issue 16's changes, is AE even a viable place to earn some pocket change?

Any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated.

    Solo TF's

Or, if you really want to make friends and influence people, join your server's badge hunter's channel and just announce you are about to spawn him and watch people flock to Skyway to get their badge.
  4. Forsaken, you do realize you still did a lot to achieve said badges, right? They didn't dumb the requirements down too much and only people who played a few years without farming are getting them now.

Think of it as your parents withholding your allowance forever until you go to med school. Then you explain to them that you really want to become a liberal arts professor. They'll ignore you or maybe disown you for a while, but eventually they'll come around, realize that just going to college and getting a degree is an achievement, and give you your allowance back.

We were just giving an issue with a feature that has been asked for since closed beta, QoL changes that make the game even easier to play, the ability to fight for up to 8 people solo to make the game more difficult for the hardcore players, the end of bridging as we know it, and earth dominators.

When the doomsayers have no real bones to pick at, they flail about and just attack previous issues worth of nerfs to try to cause a ruckus.

There must always be a ruckus. If the ruckus dies, then the game is truly dead.
  6. It's funny that I still don't have all the infamy badges even after these changes.

Stupid playing in SG mode for Prestige!

    Servers are up!

Pinnacle is up. How long you can stay logged into it, I know not.
  8. This was the first board I used Friggin' Taser on, but I've since carried it over to Twitter and some other websites.

The name was actually an accident. My first character in City of Heroes was Plot Device, a name I use to post under on other forums (mainly Television Without Pity). I made him a tanker during the pre-order headstart and didn't dig it right away. So I went to reroll him as an elec/elec blaster but forgot to delete the original first. So I'm at the naming screen with a fully made character I didn't want a delete. Earlier that day I was taken up on a dare to play the horrible Austin Powers games for Game Boy Color, which honestly features the phrase "Frickin' Lasers" during every piece of Dr Evil dialogue.

I changed it slightly and that's how the name came to be.

Since then, my original character, Plot Device, was rerolled 47 times as hero into every AT and almost all powersets. It became a running joke that he'd never hit 50. Then I got a list of powersets that would be featured in City of Villains just before closed beta and picked Rad/Thermal Corrupting as my new set for him. Even in closed beta I never looked back and he hit 50 slightly after issue 7 hit.
  9. May I suggest adding Empowered to the Dark Horse list? It's one of the best series out there today in terms of originality and comedy:

    Empowered Volume 1
    Empowered Volume 2
    Empowered Volume 3
    Empowered Volume 4
    Empowered Volume 5

Warning: 18+ only, it gets a bit saucy.
  10. How much of these troubles will be erased with Going Rogue, though?

I know I have little to no qualms about switching my main villain badge collector hero just to finish up his sets.
  11. Plus, Augustine's are still a great way to earn influence.

I remember we used to do it almost weekly in my SG before CoV. One night it was myself and two scrappers with superjump, so I had to do just about all of the flying and travel missions on my own waiting for them to geyser over.

    Good times indeed.

Redside, get to 40, do a flashback. (Normally takes me solo under 20 minutes)

I fail to see how much harder redside is for this one. This is one of the very few things villains have better than heroes. That and buying the jetpack at lvl 1
Obviously my experiences are favored more towards the redside, my signature badge count will attest for that. But here's how I figure out:

On Taser, I got Overseer by just happening to walk into the Shard one afternoon when a larger SG was hunting for them and they had a spot open. If I didn't get it there, I would have got it during a Lanaruu TF.

On Plot, I got Overseer by constantly resetting and farming a portal mission with 4 other people. It was not fun and it did not come naturally (though it is nowhere near as bad as early day Banished Masks farming redside was). I had to go out of my way to get it by resetting a mission, which I believe is a game mechanic the devs are trying to keep us from having to do to earn badges.

Yes, that was before flashback. But even still, it does take more than one pass through the portal to get said badge.

I am glad you'll be able to take advantage of the new lower goals for the badges.
X, I've been badgehunting for 5 years now, since day one of issue 2, and I'm just now getting some of the epic badges like medicine man or empath. There is no "challenge" to these epic badges if you are playing a character that's a dedicated healer, like my main badge hunter is, and even he can't get the epic heal badges through normal play.

The old epic requirements were constantly dangling carrots, meant to be earned through years of play. Fast forward issues and issues and years and years later and the only way to earn them is through damage farming or exploiting gladiators. I think Posi revisiting these limits and realizing that they just aren't being earned through normal play even years later is a good thing.

If they came in tomorrow and replaced all the kill X badges with kill 1 of each villain type, I'd be angry. There is no challenge to just beating one Freak Tank. But those badges are still a challenge to be earned. And most people will earn them through normal play if they are on full teams, which is where the challenge will come from.

The future of badges should be rewarding people for doing various things in new ways. I'm not 100% behind the "Master of X" badges since it relies on others for you to earn them, but perhaps if they change it to being awarded to people who don't themselves use temp powers or die during a SF/TF. That I can live with. Or giving out badges for killing certain ATs in PvP for the first time or completing a certain amount of story arcs in a given part of the game.

It's a bit like the problem some games have with achievements on the Xbox. You can go the easy way and give out achievements like candy, like Avatar the Last Airbender. Or you can give people a game where 1000 gamerpoints is possible with a little bit of work, like Fable 2 or Fallout 3, and feature a mixture of achievements that are challenging or simple but fun. I'd hope we get a bit more of the simple but fun to mix in there.

Edit: And just for the record -- even with the new limits, there's still badges I need to work towards and will be a challenge for me. I didn't get Disruptor back when CoV launched and it was being given out by completing a PvP zone mission. So getting 400 rep is going to take time and be a challenge for me, just like planting 10 bombs on the Rikti Drop Ship will be for new badge hunters or overtaking 100 pillboxes. Those are still challenges even at the lower levels.
  14. I don't know, Sardan.

I'm a life long badger (in fact, it was my suggestion years ago that turned this board from Arena/Gladiator discussion to a dedicated badge forum. For years, if you clicked the Badge Discussion board on the old software, it was listed as HvH, or Hero vs Hero), I don't think these changes hollow out any of the minigame.

There is still a dedicated minigame to getting all badges, it's just less painful. I'm all for adding new badges to existing content, but I don't think any other additional changes really need to be made to existing changes to make the challenge more difficult.

I've had at least one friend quit the game for over two years because he couldn't stand hunting DE eminators with me. A lot of the badges they changed here were either impossible to get or just plain unfun to get. Especially Toxic Tarantulas.

As for how many badges I'll get when i16 hits: 6. 7 if I drop 3 more bombs in the Rikti Raid. Surprisingly I won't be getting the last two infamy badges quite yet... stupid running in SG mode.
  15. I haven't quite ironed out all the details yet (I've been having major ISP problems the past few days and am spending most of the switching from DSL to cable), so I'll post more information and officially start this up next Monday night.
  16. I'll write some up and post this later today in time for tomorrow.
  17. I figure in the sake of sportsmanship, it'll be actual fighting. Not "I shoot you with guns and you die. Now you shoot me with guns and I die."

Just as long as everyone who's there stays around a bit and has a few fun fights, actually fighting should be fun.
  18. If we can draw long enough to help all of those who want the arena badges in a friendly environment obtain them, that's all I could ask for.

Badgers badgers badgers badgers badgers muuuushroom muuuushroom
  19. And by that I'm talking about Monday Night Raaaaaaw.

I remember back in the day we had a successful string of events going every Monday night, usually consisting of the long fabled Intern Battle Royales.

Now that arena badges are working and there's an accolade I'd really like to have and help others get, how's about we set this up again?

My proposal: Monday Nights starting at 8 PM Eastern. We gather in Pocket D at the monkey cage and try to set up the hardest of matches first: Pentads. Then we work towards whatever arena badges the general consensus needs. Maybe we can even finish the night off with an Intern Battle Royale for old time's sake (it's a free for all where everyone is level 5, leading to mass casualties and chaos).

Would anyone else be interested in this? I'd like to get the ball rolling if possible, since finding a villain-side pentad for my corruptor is like a needle in a haystack.
  20. I learned this information the hard way a few months ago during a yearly physical. The doctor asked me about my caffeine intake and I said "1 or 2 bottles of Mountain Dew." He replied, "A week?"

He nearly punched me in the face when I say in a day.

So yeah, you can eat as healthy as you want, but if you are addicted to Harsh Mistress Caffeine, Mountain Dew is like arsenic laced with cyanide.
  21. Guys, Moderator 8 is just the PR department's face of moderation.

We know they let Moderator 6 do all the dirty work/silent executions of troublemakers. He has night vision goggles and everything...
  22. I hate to throw myself into the middle of this argument, but I'd say a good part of most video gamer or even teenage obesity comes from soda. People don't realize how many calories are in it and especially with things like Mountain Dew you have to keep increasing how much you drink to get that caffeine rush.
  23. Somehow the fact that my innocent first post back from two years "away" about Rikti Raids turning into a debate about the evils versus benefits of fast food seems appropriate.
  24. I think the only reason I might switch my villain to a hero (other than storyline reasons, he's a hero who turned villain only because Friggin' Taser annoys him so much he must destroy him) is to get the mission, TF, and monster/event badges on heroside.

Other than Croatoa monsters, are there any villains can't unlock right now?

    'Who is Jack?'

I don't think Jack was an egomaniac or evil at all. He was just someone with no background at all at video game design becoming the mouthpiece for something he knew next to nothing about. He didn't know how to interact with a fanbase for a video game because this was his first and done example. Instead of being honest from the beginning, he tried what he say work for other games: PR Doublespeak.

That's what gave us the "I said no power nerfs, ED is not nerfing specific powers" argument.

Just the fact that we have numbers in-game for everything right now just proves how wrong some of Jackie Boy's ideas were. He was so dead set against that. That was not a resource thing but a simple developer choice.

He's a part of City of Heroes history, yes. But in hindsight, he might have done more damage than good in the long run. Positron and company have done more than enough to win back my trust at this point, though.
