  1. I think that's a great plan! I'll volunteer for technical editor (ah, the perks of being a grammar nazi), as well as hosting (I don't have any arcs published at the moment) if needed and/or playtester.
  2. The Croatoa badges are not the Halloween badges. If you defeat regular Jack-in-Irons in Croatoa, you do not get the Iron Warrior (Halloween) badge, you get the Giant Killer badge. Same goes for the Eochai badge. There's regular Eochai (Pumpkin King/Queen badge) and Halloween Eochai (Hallow Spirit badge).

    Thus endeth the lesson.

It's awesome when you run into a big group of Lost and cure one...the rest of the group immediately turns and begins attacking them. Of course, then you have to chase the rest of the Lost around and cure/turn them on each other.

    Cure worse than the disease?

And I forgot Acid Mortar was -res as well as -def (I only see the big upside-down purple shields). I just know I kill stuff faster when it's up!

So I guess I have a few questions.

    1. Can I make the Acid Mortar and the Poison Trap at a distance like the seeker drones, or is it like the Triage Beacon, right under me?
My playstyle is similar (less laying traps/pulling and more running in guns a'blazing) on my 31 bots/traps. But I have (and LOVE) both acid mortar and poison trap.

With Acid Mortar, I'll get the fight started with my bots and lay it in the middle of either my bots (if surrounded) or the enemy mobs (if they're grouped up nicely) and it goes to town with AoE -def goodness. Plus it grabs some aggro as well; nice with large groups of mobs.

I tend to use poison trap on large mobs and bosses/AVs/EBs. With bosses (Longbow Wardens, Carnie Ring Mistresses), I'll spam web grenade to immob them, throw caltrops underneath, then run in and toe-bomb with Poison Trap, hitting them with that lovely cloud of -regen (soooo helpful for anything boss-level and above) among other things. FFG and my bubble from the prot bot (and if I'm really in trouble, my seeker drones) keep me nice and safe.

What changes in particular detract from the enjoyment? Nothing was taken away from last year's event (as far as I can tell) so you can do exactly the same things you did last year with the same results. Enjoyment!

There are also *new* things. Which you might not enjoy. As far as the cost of the candy cane respec...of course it's expensive. Have you seen the costs of respec recipes on WW? You don't want to buy one? Run a respec TF.
  11. So...

I joined a quick PuG last night, headed to the mission, and we were waiting for the rest of the group. So I toggled on Walk and wandered around a bit.

A teammate cast Mystic Fortune on me, I clicked 'accept', the yellow 'You have received a Temporary Power' message flashed. A second teammate cast Mystic Fortune on me, I hit accept again (expecting it to cancel out like it usually does when I accept a second fortune if I already have one). But no, the 'You have received a Temporary Power' message came up again.

That was weird, so I toggled off Walk, the Mystic Fortune animation played (the sigil-circle around me plus the sound effect, which hadn't when I accepted either buff), and I checked my buff bar -- I had *both* The Moon and The Lovers showing there.

My laptop decided to die shortly after so I didn't do any extensive testing; and I don't know that both buffs were *actually* applied as far as numbers are concerned, but it was definitely abnormal behavior.

I /bugged it in game, but has anybody else seen this or can duplicate it?

    4. Anyone who clicks on the huge present is teleported to Lord Winter's Realm. Lord Winter is a huge Winter Lord on top of a hill. Beatdown commences.
    5. At 75%, 50% and 25% health, Lord Winter summons the Winter Guardian... a GM Winter Lord. While the Winter Guardian is alive, Lord Winter can't be hurt.
    6. Defeating Lord Winter gets you 20 Candy Canes, 6 Reward Merits and the Lord/Lady of Winter Badge.

I'm not sure if 1 actually causes 2, but from what Ghost Falcon said, I think it does.
Best part: the word 'Snaptooth' does not appear in any of that.

    So I called BS.

It is not my intention to make this thread a commentary on all the love that bases need... been there, done that.

I am indifferent to the walking animation. Most likely, I'll end up taking it out of my trays and just leaving it in the power list.

I am also indifferent to the new costume naming, though I will appreciate the extra costume token.
Except, he didn't say "meh, I would have liked something else" (which, by the way, is hardly constructive). He said:

Okay, I see your point. The main point of his post was not to request base improvements, but to question in general why this Walk toggle is important enough to include in the game.

Answer: Because they had time between other things to do it, and because it has been requested by many, many players since the game launched. Proving (once again) that the devs do listen, and they do try to make us shinies that we want when they can.

I'm not an RPer, and I probably won't use Walk much after playing with it for a week or so, but I know there are people for whom this is as big a QoL change as power customization. Which had also been requested practically since launch.

That said, this is not the place to ask, "What about X?" if X wasn't supposed to be in this patch. This is the place to give *constructive* feedback on the current patch notes. Do they work properly? Are there bugs? Amid all the doomcrying and whining, a bug has already come up with Walk and players have helped zero in on the likely culprit. That's what this thread is for.

    Also, this?

Not true. Players and REDNAME put on the sarcastic hats and made fun of the people who seem to think that BABs and the animation team somehow cost them fixes for things that are not in their department. Read the thread. You'll see lots of "We got Walk instead of a fix for the TF difficulty/Mac mouse cursor issue/base improvements?!" It's the "instead of" that we're taking issue with. There is no "instead of". That's why BABs is joking about animating TF fixes and base improvements. Because people are implying that the time spent on the Walk toggle could/should have been spent on doing something completely non-animation-related. Different departments. Different priorities. Different tasks.

Whew...I think I'm done for the night after that one.

What if they don't want that? Do you even care what other people might want?

Why would two completely unrelated SGs want to merge? Whose base would they get? I know! Just erase everything from both bases and give them a plot that's twice as big! That wouldn't cause any problems, right?

Nobody wants a server merge. It would be bad (putting it mildly). If you want a higher-pop server, move to one. Period.

Perhaps, because I am accutely aware that Sunstorm is the person who is supposed to be working on bases, but is instead working on powers and "other stuff". It was made very clear at Herocon that Base love of any kind (fixes or new shineys) are definitely on the waaaay back burner, and set on LOW simmer.

This is frustrating. I can understand no new shineys, but no FIXES? Base Builders have sat back very quietly and said very little over the year (since last year's salvage fiasco). So, is it not understandable that when we see a walk animation given so much hoopdaloola, that we might actually be a little put out?

Oh, and was my previous post really that neg-worthy? seriously?
    First of all, I didn't neg-rep you.

Second of all, the reason the walk animation is being given "so much hoopdaloola" from the players is because this is something that has been asked for for a very long time. People have wanted this since before bases existed in the game. Since before PvP existed in the game. So if you're frustrated because it got done first? Well, it was asked for first, when you think about it. And it still took 5 years to do. Piecemeal, between important things, like BAB said.

I understand the base-builder frustration. I really do. I'm just trying to explain that the existence of this Walk toggle is not proof that it was prioritized over base upgrades. It was just easier and quicker to do and someone had time to do it. A "quick win", as it were. Base upgrades are not "further back on the burner", so to speak. They're in the same place they were before.

Ok, imagine your SG is on a server that is merged with another server with an SG with the same name. Who gets to keep it? Do you? Do they? Does it go to the person who registered first? Do they just merge the member list and you're all in one giant SG now?

Do you understand why server merges are a bad bad idea? If not, go read Bill's copypasta again. If you want to be on a high-pop server, go to one. Either roll a new character, or pony up the $10 and transfer. Ta-da!

This is what I'm hoping for. Specifically, new EATs that anyone can unlock, and Praetorians would be able to unlock the existing EATs by either going all the way heroside and hitting 50 there, or the reverse. You'd either unlock HEATs or VEATs depending on your alignment when you hit 50. At least, that's what I'd like to see.

This is supposed to be a thread regarding thoughts/opinions on the patch notes, right?
Right, but you're still making the assumption that we get one or the other. That because we got a Walk toggle, we won't get base improvements or that time was somehow taken away from working on base improvements (by whoever does that). This is the part that is wrong.

Saying "the time spent on the walk toggle could have been better spent on base improvements" is ridiculous. Because it's time spent simultaneously by different departments. Time taken from one does not go to the other. Implying or assuming that because we got a Walk toggle, base improvements are further down the road than they were, is just silly. And wrong. And /em facepalm worthy.

Adding to the speculation, since vigilantes and rogues still use their home contacts/market, my speculation would be that they would not be kicked out of a SG/VG that they're currently in. Only when they go all the way to the other side would that happen.

Sigh. This question [about SG status if you go rogue] was asked at HeroCon at least twice, and I've read it on the forums about a dozen times.

Every time the devs have answered it (which they did, at least both times it was asked at HeroCon), they said that they are working on a solution that will make the greatest number of people as happy as they can make them.

Just because it's not a definitive answer doesn't mean they haven't given one. Patience, grasshopper.

Remember, they do animation - they don't have anything to do with bug fixes, server issues, costume parts, mission design, map creation or finding a way to make Jay less sexy - they do animation.

So maybe they look at a list of low priority/unscheduled requests involving animation, and decide to use this free work time to add the most popular one that's been requested by lots of players for ages?
    QFT.

It boggles my mind that some people seem to be under the impression that the entire dev team works on every single thing that gets done, in lockstep, ignoring everything else.

So if a Walk toggle was created, that must mean that time was taken away from something else, something ~more important~. This is patently false. It means that in their spare time, while other people were working on different things, rather than slack off, they tinkered with the Walk animation and now it's done. Yay!

I'm going to choose to believe that the people who don't understand this are still young and haven't been in the workplace yet.
