I wonder if they are going to include those enhancements in the booster for the people that pre-ordered. If not I guess we know what one of the future vet rewards will be.

Quote:Not only that but if a person is dead set on a name why not try seeing if it's available in a different language. German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese the possibilities go on and on.From this page:

Quote:I respectfully disagree that there is a relatively small selection to choose from. While I don't disagree that a fair number of the combinations are unsuitable I honestly feel the number of choices out there still number in the millions.Among other potential characters. And a potentially terrible (or at best extremely random) name for yet others. Point being that only a relatively small selection of those "400,000" words will be deemed appropriate for any given character, and of that small selection there are even fewer that may meet aesthetic demands not all of which may be immediately apparent. All it takes is a handful of people with similar naming ideas to muck up the process.
Still, it only really bothers me when I do what you just (sort of) did and design a character around a particular name, only to find that the name is taken. And unfortunately the name-checking feature in the game doesn't work for me most of the time, meaning that I won't know if the name is taken until I make the character and try to enter the game.
I think the real problem at the core of this issue is that sometimes people get tunnel vision about the name they want at the expense of good alternatives. -
Quote:Interesting suggestion. I don't have an opinion either way but would like to see more uses for Vanguard Merits.
And as usual, I will put a plug in for Rikti Origin Enhancements (Rikti O's - previous example) as an alternative for excess Vanguard Merits.
I agree with Penny. -
Quote:Horsepuckey. What will really happen is that players will use respecs to rip out their current IO's and email them to a mule character which will store them in base storage. This will in turn make desirable IO's harder to find on the market because everyone will be hoarding them, and their absence will cause market prices to become even more inflated.I think it's just as likely that they may spend more by buying level 10-30 IOs and sets knowing that they can save them for use later and not lose them because they don't have enough respecs. In addition, that might also increase the supply and demand of 10-30 level IOs sets on the market which at this time is anemic as far as I can tell.
The new email system makes it ridiculously easy to set up Mule Character/SG's. Players can now set up personal banks dedicated to the storage of a single item. (18 bins of enhancements, or inspirations, or salvage) -
Oh sweet, a cool name for an Elec/Elec Scrapper.
Armature n. Electricity. The rotating part of a dynamo.
Buttress v. - make stronger or defensible.

Quote:Oh please. this game has a finite number of players with a larger but just as finite number of characters. Furthermore the devs have a system in place they can run whenever they want to free up names on inactive accounts. If the name you initially want is taken, then you have to come up with an alternative. That is an increase in difficulty, even though some may find it inconsequential. If the alternative is taken, then yet another alternative must be looked for, which is a further increase. The more characters that are created, the more likely it is that an initial name and alternatives will already be taken, and thus, naturally, it has become increasingly difficult to get a desired name for a character.
The largest of english dictionaries has 400,000 entries and that's not including things like informal and formal names, verb tenses, prefixes, suffixes, compound words, etc all of which send the possible variations skyrocketing into the millions. And that's just one language. It's not taking other languages into consideration. Anyone claiming that the game is running out of names has no idea what they are talking about. -
And I went bouncing around the servers and just finished snagging
Stalkerbane
Wraithmage
Demonation
Yofiel
Labradorite
Aetherwytch
Photosphere
Tachyonwave
Amunet
Bioshokk
Skystryke
Infradead
So there's plenty of one word names left. -
Quote:From the time of launch it has been increasingly difficult to get names for your characters.
Although this has lead to some really creative names and character concepts, I have always wished that naming was more available.
What if multiple font styles could be incorporated into the names, so that first you would pick a font, then type out your name. Just adding a few Font-styles would allow more names to open up.
I understand that this would create the in-game phenomena of running into someone using the same name as your character, but this occurrence would probably be less frequent than you may suppose since most of us have tons of alts running around.
Anyone think this would be good ?

Quote:Might not work out as you'd expect. Carp Melee/Carp Armor might get a lot of votes and attention, whereas something that's actually pretty good might not get the requisite number of votes as it fades off of page 1 for not being too 'dramatic' of a thread.
I have no problem specifically with the idea, I just know that the forumites (including me) aren't always the best judge of things.
<looks around sheepishly>
I was gonna say something about voting for Carp Melee. Now Aett's gone and made me feel ashamed of myself.

1. Add a bottom skin to the white floor tile so we can use it as a raised floor instead of hundreds of desks.
2. Use the base ceiling and floor skins instead of the white pattern on the floor tile so we can have several options of tiles to choose from. -
Quote:I know I've said I thought the email feature was a minor QoL and I thought the devs should work on more important issues.I obviously did a poor job communicating my point, because the responses don't actually address what I'm saying. Which is fine, that is my fault. I'm just gonna concede this since I don't feel like digging through 100+ pages of the S&I forum for an example to support what I'm saying.

Quote:Definitely! Just beware, you can't send email until you're level 10 or higher. If you're under 10 and have something you feel is worth keeping, find a friend you trust and ask if they could email it to you or hold it for a minute while you login to another character. (I doubt this is news to the OP, looking at their reg date, but I thought I'd mention it for the newer people reading it.
)
It never hurts to repeat good advice but just so you know, the reg date/post count doesn't really mean anything. People often leave the game and return months or even years later. There have been a few people that recently posted that they have been away for 4+ years and are happy to see all the changes that happened since the last time they played. -
Quote:I can easily picture a tech version of this but what do you envision the arcane version would look like?I'm all for it, so long as the objects are as billed: Decorative objects that serve no real function. And extra 100-1,000 prestige item that can be put in any room.
How about we up the scale a little bit further while we're at it? Multiple versions, including a "Table" with a map of the Rogue Isles or Paragon City on it, depending on which item you place. I'd love for my control room to have a "Sector Map" of each zone as if we're planning various assaults or monitoring information. So let's go for wall-mounted Zone maps with the individual neighborhoods marked.
Wouldn't all of these things be awesome for Base Designers?

Quote:I agree they don't have to, I'm not even saying they should explain the reasoning. In fact, I wasn't commenting about the devs in the post you quoted at all. So I don't get how your reply to my post even makes sense.
I was commenting on the fact that posters reject these ideas simply because a dev has said no in the past, not because anybody is actually against the idea itself.
Before the email changes and and power customization were implemented, many posters rejected those ideas simply because of past dev comments. Both of those features eventually made it in the game.
Well you said many of us agree with old dev statements just to agree with them. That's not entirely true. Some people are just tired of seeing the same dead horse get trotted out. Others are simply providing the OP with the only official statement we've been given on the subject by the devs.
And while yes there are some people that simply reject ideas for the reason you stated, there are just as many people that reject any post that isn't agreeing with their suggestion no matter how obvious the flaws are. They don't care how bad their idea is, they want what they want and nothing will change their mind. -
I think the problem starts off when the first ones they choose are the ones they feel are important for their personal use, and they don't bother to make changes to a more logical set up as they expand.
-
Quote:The devs don't have to give us a reason why this is a bad idea. If they don't want to do it they won't.That doesn't mean it can't change. But more importantly, other than just agreeing with an old dev statement just to agree with it, I haven't heard one argument on why something like this is a bad idea or how it would be bad for the game.
edit: Also, /signed. This should be fixed(yes, I said fixed because I see it as broken), just like the email system was finally fixed in Issue 17. -

Quote:Forbin Sweety he's not referring to scheduled maintenance Virtue has been having some serious CRASH problems on a daily basis for ohhh what is it now 5-6 days. Now.. the Devs are aware of it and it was been posted by a RED name that the issue is being looked into and a fix will be in place when they figure out why. Until then OP best I can say is grin and bear it. Happened to me a few days ago during a Silver Mantis SF. When the server finally came back 6 of the original 8 of us returned and completed it. Now keep in mind here folks we are not talking HOURS off line either... as soon as it crashes someone at NC is working to get it back. I think the day we did that SF it was down maybe 30 minutes.
It's annoying when your in the middle of something like that but they will figure it out and correct it. Now before I completely lose my mind can someone tell me an easy way to find and defeat 200 Marcone Family Bosses? It's all I need for the accolade and I have been hunting off and on for 4 days and have 75 LOL We are talking RED side here people LOL
I understand what he's upset about Wendy, and I haven't criticized anyone discussing it in the correct part of the forums when it actually crashed. But this isn't the case here. The OP wasn't making a suggestion, he was ranting. And the OP isn't an MMO virgin. He/she's been around long enough to know server instability crops up occasionally and requires maintenance. The devs don't have a magic wand they can wave that keeps the server gerbils alive and healthy all the time.
I see Penny already suggested St Marts so best of luck getting the badge completed.
