That is a valid example of role playing. I played one game, can't remember the name, but you played yourself and it was based on time travel. The only things your character had was the items you were actually carrying at that moment in real life.

Tho I should have added the Midnighters Club.

The Mastermind on the other hand is starting off at the begining giving orders to his small group of individuals (in most cases)...makes more sense that the Mastermind will have a better idea of what they are doing in terms of precision.
    Depends on the powerset.

    Mind control - 0 Summons
    Earth control - 1 Summon
    Electric control - 1 Summon
    Fire control - 1 Summon
    Gravity control - 1 Summon
    Ice control - 1 Summon
    Illusion control - 2 Summons
Plant control - 2 Summons (Carrion Creepers isn't really a pet)

And if Controllers/Dominators take Patron Power pools they get the option of choosing

    Summon Coralax
    Summon Tarantula
    Summon Guardian (Mu)
    Summon Seer (Fortunata)

Now the secondary powerset Storm Summoning does have 2 summons, but like Carrion Creepers, they don't really qualify as pets.

Oh and enjoy Perez but be careful, bad dudes live there!
He said his character is level 14. The only thing in there that would be a threat is the snot monster GM and then only is he stumbled across it when it spawned..

Now if Rularuu the Ravager had a giant mace we could call the BanHammer . . .

    Why?

    1) latency, as many people have said, the current infrastructure in place for EU players means we get more latency accessing our servers hosted in Germany, than we do accessing any of the NA servers, though i hear the East Coast hosted ones are best.

    2) Due to my not so unique working times I get some silly play times, which happen to match up with peak time NA quite alot, while putting me at not so peak EU time.

    3) General server population alone its beneficial to be on NA servers

    4) I intend to emigrate to Canada at some point in the not so far future, this is the biggest point of contention for me I didnt see myself becoming so hooked on this game that it would become an issue, but if i'm still here in 3 years or so, it will be.

The ideal action, in my opinion, is a Server list Merge, which many people many times over have argued the benefits of, and apart from issues with Global names, the benefits far outweight the negatives, and this is the best course of action.
    1. If you are going to move to Canada you need to start ending all your sentences with "Ay" or you just won't fit in.

    2. I think the Global Name issue can be resolved with either a global name change token or by adding an _EU /_NA as they did here when they merged the servers.

    3. Come to the NA servers . . . We have cookies, pie, and ponies.

I can see how you can get that impression. I just thought I'd explain both on the outside chance you weren't familiar with bases construction.

Nothing special happens just a forced disconnect and they can't log back on because the accounts banned.

Now Guild Wars has their Avatar of Death that busts forth from the ground and kills the botters and RMT spammers which also bans their account. Funny as heck to see it happen.

    Here.

After all, plenty of people worry even now that new costumes have never really been a big part of our subscription fees, and have instead come mostly in the form of Booster packs. The Boosters themselves aren't too bad now, because they're rare and because they're not considered an essential part of the experience. A F2P model would not really allow for things you don't want to buy, because they want you to want to buy them.
Exactly. For example. If Paragon used one of the current F2P models then things would happen like:

The paying players have to pay to get a gold (influence) cap removed from their accounts.

They have to pay to unlock archetypes.

They have to pay to have character storage limits removed.

They have to pay to get access to additional zones.

They have to pay for the ability to form a guild (Super Group)

They even have to pay for customer service. The free accounts have to fend for themselves.

In the other F2P games if you want to invite a friend to one of the adventures you own you have to pay for a guest pass which lets them team up with you for 90 to 180 minutes.

and in their airships (bases) you don't buy base amenities, you rent them. What would that mean in our game? It means if rent isn't paid for each item it goes away and you can't use it until you rent a new one.

Those are just a few examples of the things subscribers have to pay for that they used to get for free in those games.

G_G I think you are assuming that you would automatically get everything that has already been added to the game if it went F2P. That may not be the case.

In that hairy footed fantasy game free players have to buy that extra content. The same goes for that competing hero game. They changed "free issues" to "Adventure Packs" and will be charging for them.

The same decisions could be implemented here. All the content that was added in our free issues and paid expansions could be categorized as "Adventure Packs" and free players would have to buy them. Same goes for features like the Arena, the AE, the Market, IO's/Crafting, Bases, PvP. Just imagine having to pay real money for inspirations, because they do that those F2P games with their versions of inspirations.

Those other F2P games even sell individual costume pieces, and they sell them per character not per account.

The best we can hope for is that if they made the switch that they'd grandfather in everything previously existing accounts aquired.

I dislike games which are obviously trying to sell me something as I play. Each time I go to the site there's a "NEW SALE! Get 10 items for the price of five, only today!" or "I could sell you some really cool stuff for a discount, but what you're paying right now just isn't cutting it." And even if YOU don't have to pay for these things, the entire game starts feeling like someone jammed a permanent commercial break into it. It's all over the launcher, all over the updater, you see it in loading screens, it's all over the site... The game is trying to sell you things, even if you're already paying.

Right now, I feel like a paying customer, one who is paying "enough." The game is happy to take my money and never mention it again, to the point where I keep forgetting I'm actually paying for it. Sure, we get the occasional ad for a new Booster pack on the updater from time to time, but that's the extent of it. There are no in-game real money shops, there are no in-game real-money services... There are no real money in-game at all.

You can never pay "enough" money for a "Free" to Play game, because it will always try to suck more out of you. You very much CAN pay enough for a subscription-based game, because your one subscription pays for everything.
I agree with you on this.

I'm just pointing out, from first-hand experience, that something has indeed changed for the subscribers of the game when it went F2P, and changed drastically. Like I said, that was a single example. There are a lot more, and things which have actually physically been changed in what the subscribed players had offered to them for free and the quality of that, since the game went F2P.

Nothing "changed" for the free players, because they weren't there before. And I have no interest whatsoever in how the restructure of the game to make it so they could do that inconveniences them or gives them poor play.
Those changes are what I hate about games changing to an F2P model. I've yet to see one where gameplay itself wasn't affected negatively.
