From this morning's news it looks like IE may be back in but with a question to select which browser you want assuming Brussels can respond before they need to go to production.
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't hold your breath. The babies at Opera HQ are now complaining about the ballot screen, saying the IE logo is too well known and must be removed.
They're not going to be happy until they get an icon filling 99% of the screen, and everyone else is relegated to a single line of 2 point found, in text the same colour as the background. <bleeping> crybabies. -
The bloody thing even errorrd whilst editing the double post!
We'll still know who's who. Those yanks aren't going to bury us! -
I know I'm not going to miss all the bloody forum errors!

EDIT: Aargh! See what I mean? How ironic can you get?

Whenever we have to do something along these lines at work, we take copies of all the DB's and run several tests, fine tuning the scripts on the copies until we KNOW it's working right. Then when it's time to do it live, the whole process is done in under an hour (and I assure you, our client's live databases are waaaaaaaaay bigger than these forum ones...
)
[/ QUOTE ]
Aye, but probably so are the dbservers they're served on
And the forums are mainly text based so you've to regenerate full text indexes on everything which can take a while, especially on a slower machine running MySQL.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh yes... We run on Multi-terabyte DB's running on AS/400 mainframes.
But the principle is still the same... You run multiple tests on backups until you KNOW the scripts will work, and it should all be plain sailing when you finally do it live. That they're taking 3 days over it just kinda shows they've not done many/any dry runs.

Yeah, BAB mentioned this, I believe you can choose between the old bananas, thorns, or straight metal spines now.
And they are colorable.

Hey! We've not gone to the American's YET, Praf!

As announced previously, you will not be able to change your forum handle on the vBulletin. However we will be able to deal with forum handle conflicts. But again, before we are able to tell you more about that, we need to make sure that the vBulletin forums are working all right. Just know that we are aware that this will happen and that we have a plan to address that issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
We KNOW you have a plan, but we want to know what it is TOO! Are name conflicts going to be handled on registration date? Or number of posts? Or are EU users stuffed and will lose their names if there's a conflict? Or will you just tag .EU to the name? What?
People would like to know so that they can decide if they want to change their names BEFORE you take the boards down. Alas, it's almost certainly too late now for some people now as some, such as Dante, can't post during the day due to work.
Also, people have asked about post counts, but that hasn't been answered either, or custom forum titles. Is it REALLY that hard to answer customer's questions in plenty of time? -

Relax - there's plenty of time for a forum merge FAQ before tomorrow

Bet you there won't be one. -

*Wonders if the forum mods are actually going to bother answering important questions asked by paying customers or not.

Reminds FFM that the Rednames were out partying at ComicCon, and are a little worse for wear...
I expect normal / better than normal service to resume after the 72 hour forum outage / merge that starts tomorrow...
Coming Soon:
Issue 16 (Kaleidoscopic Divergence)
Going Rogue

*Reminds Coolio that paying customers are usually considered more important than having a party. Being at a con is no excuse.
Some people want answers to questions needed BEFORE they take the forums down. -

Or is that Reichsman?

Come to europe and see if you find any
EVEN the kiddie leagues are dangerous lol..
Ever seen fanatic parents on the sidelines? You can always tell which kid belongs to the screamer.. It's the one with the shirt over his head not wanting to be recognized.
Seriously, soccer in europe is taken far far too seriously by too many people.

Pfft.. Take any US linebacker, put him in a side of Rugby League, and don't let him have any armour.
He'll be crying for his mommy inside of 10 seconds.

I so think that all American Football teams from here on in should wear shades of Pink. Let's start with that at the next Superbowl? That'll make me watch it at least once
[/ QUOTE ]
At least that would be more appropriate, seeing as they're playing a limp wristed version of Rugby.
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you going to say that to the americans too once we hit their shores?
If so, I REALLY need to spend more time there
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, come on! How can you be anything BUT a girly girl if you have to don kevlar armour just for a quick scrum? They don't even run more than 10 yards before they have to stop for a rest and a cuddle! -

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.

Is that like Jack in Irons?

Is he surprised?

Well, he was rather surprised last time I beat the [censored] out of him with my little Peacebringer...

I prefer Murphy's older and nastier brother, Sod.
[/ QUOTE ]
Being un-British I had to look that up, but it's basically the same law!
You lot just simplified Finagle's Law just so you can say sod a lot didn't you?
Sod's Law is however WAY more funny to see happen to others obviously

Exactly!

I'm usually too far immersed with the lovely young lady in between the pom poms to notice how many heads the pom poms have.. And yeah.. what IS the head of a pom pom?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's the fluffy bit
And the handle usually has a molded or rubber grip, with a wrist strap so it won't fly away if it slips.
[/ QUOTE ]
No no no... The fluffy bit is the lovely young lady in the middle.

Or, like me, you just don't ever go to the page where they are stored...
Seriously, I think I only once have seen that page.. When I created my account.

If you got one, you get a little blinky icon at the top of the screen that stays there until you go to that screen and read the thing.

CO is sufficiently similar to WoW in places that it's likely to appeal to the WoW player who wants something a bit more science fictiony to play. Whether it has enough appeal to take players from CoX is a different question.
