You may find some of the female toons at GG a little easier to talk to initially. But a warn of warning, if your character is obviously a kid, there's at least one female toon who will try to avoid him. It's nothing personal, I assure you! There's an IC reason for it...

I've noticed it myself, and indeed have also been at GG a little less than usual. This week I have an excuse that I'm on early shift so I need to log by 10, but there's another reason too, an RL one I don't mind sharing with my friends over MSN, but would rather not bandy about the forums.

I've no plans to leave after Ellie gets to 50, she's at 42 now and I'm not really in any rush to get those last 8, but I can understand other people that haven't yet achieved that magic number wanting to make the final push. BTW: on Novastar, running 8 man teams, it took me 4 days to go from 44 to 50, playing 3 hours a night, so it can be done quickly with a big team.

I've also found all the newcomers a little daunting myself. Well, not the players themselves, but more the fact that local is spinning by so fast that if you look away for a second, you'll miss something someone you're talking too said...

Things will settle down in time.

Easy.. Launch them at point blank range to the enemy you're attacking, and they MIGHT hit them...

My main RP character is a woman, and she does get hit on from time to time. OOCly I often think it rather amusing to be honest, but I've never yet had to break into OOC mode to tell them I'm a guy, mainly because I have an IC reason which works just as well; she's homosexual.

Now, there are a few reasons for this, the first being it was my wifes idea, and the second because it dodges around being chatted up, and thirdly because I think trying to view things from a totally different lifestyle to your own kinda helps you grow as a person.

I also deliberately made my toons' physical attributes as minimal as possible, to cut out the oggling from 14 year old boys going "OMGZ, j00 is st4ck3d!". As it turned out, my toon has ended up in two relationships, the first started as an infatuation which ended in a vampires bite and her becoming a 'pet', the second, came about in some way as she was the one who 'saved' her from the first, but more as because that toon was always there when my toon needed support. I also OOC become really good friends with that toons player, who is also a guy btw. In fact I've made several good friends due to this game...

I've taken a little bit of stick in the past for my toon, not just because she's a lesbian, but also because she a catgirl and an alien hybrid. Pretty stereotypical really; but I've done my best to fill out her backstory to a rich history, even going back as far as her early teens for some of it, all of which is what makes her what she is today. She's an extremely complex character that's had a lot of grief in her life including homophobia, xenophobia and just plain hatred. She's even had a couple of people try to kill her, one of whom was her best friend, and came close to succeeding! All in all though, it's helped her grow and develop into as real a person as she can become. To me, she is at least as real as a character in a book or a TV show/movie.

And contrary to a lot of IC comments, she's NOT a tramp! Two relationship does not make a person a tramp!

And then what do you do when people either need to stop earning prestige so they can earn enough inf for their next round of SO's, or start to leave the SG/Game?

A friend of mind had a small SG, just enough for a small base for some RP. Toons left the SG, taking their prestige bonus with them.. He's now locked out of his base with 75k debt and is unlikely to ever get his base back, after spending a lot of time and effort getting it just right too...

Considering the stupid costs to do anything with a base beyond decorating it, they could at least not lock you out of them completely if you can't afford the rent!

OK.. my numbers were a little off, but I still stand by my rant!!! (blows a wet raspberry).

The entire concept is half baked and not very well implemented.. I bet you'll find there are a LOT more people using bases for things other than raiding, which is what most it seems (dodgily) designed for...

Time for a rant!

Base rent - Can someone explain why this isn't the most player unfriendly thing about bases? You pay a fortune to deck your base out nicely, have a few active items, mostly decorated for some nice RP. Then the rent is due. Don't pay it and they active items stop working; ok, how does that work huh? I've got my own power supply so how come they can shut off the power to my reclamator? Ok, so, still don't pay the rent and you get locked out of the base. OK... That's REALLY player friendly isn't it? So what do you do if a bunch of people leave the SG, taking their prestige bonus with them? Kinda unfair to the rest isn't it?

Crafting - You spend ages collecting salvage, you spend a fortune in prestige to get a worktable going, you build something, eg, a holodisplay. It then costs you around 89k prestige to place the thing! Excuse me... I just BUILT it! I can place it myself! I don't need any workmen to come install it for me! Besides... It provides the same control and power as a simple terminal, which I can buy and place for a measly 30k. Does that make ANY sense? To ANYONE?

Prestige - We're told time and time again it's not money. BUT, you buy things for your base with it, you HAVE to pay rent with it, you even have to pay up to put something on the floor you just built. It's money, stop telling us it isn't, we're not thick you know...

Active items - Things like terminals, teleporters... Stuff that can be destroyed in a base raid. I can't put a chair in front of my nice new terminal? Excuse me, that's stupid. They base editor tells me I can't block access to a raidable object.. IT'S A CHAIR!!! How can a chair get in the way of anyone?

As far as I'm concerned, the base system as it stands need to be totally redesigned, and some thought into how the players want to use them applied...

Well... I've gotten my PB to level 42 so far, as she's as much fun to play as when she was level 1. The game became FAR too easy on my energy blaster after a while, and with my PB, I actually have to be far more carefull and mindfull of tactics!!

There's only one little niggle I have, and that's that I have too many powers, and not enough slots!

Still down... Cheap tickets run out after the 3rd March! I hope it's back up before then or I won't be pleased!
