  1. M&M is PRIMITIVE!?!? I already have a headache trying to roll up a new char for a campaign Zortel is starting soon, and I had lots of help! God help me if we swap to a more "advanced" system!
  2. Not completely sure it'd be possible to stat up Miss Ellie; even as a level 20 in M&M. I'm not sure there are enough PP's for all her powers as a triform PB, even ignoring the RP'd extras...
  3. It's a comic book world. "Dead" characters don't usually stay dead very long...

    Sapphire's Shift

(( Nice story Z! Looking forwards to part 2 ))
  5. Some people have tried to get something going under the clocktower in Mercy Island, but alas it keeps dying due to lack of interest.
  6. Well.. I do kinda wish you'd let my ONE MISTAKE fade away, you old meanie person you!

I suggest this thread stops now. If this continues, I'll email Bridger to have it locked.

This is getting totally out of hand.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good idea. As of now, I'm walking away from this. None of my characters have had any kind of involvement in this thing as of now. I'm retconning it out. Miss Ellie never gave her opinion, or saw the open letter, and Eloise never stopped any mugging involving a petitioner.

...the whole thing therefore comes across as a pointless exercise and has resulted in one of the earliest public RPers in CoH withdrawing from roleplay entirely, due to frustration caused by this petition.

    [/ QUOTE ]

However, blaming publically another player for someone's quitting, is harsh and unfair.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Read what I said again. I said a player has left due to frustration cause by this petition. I said nothing about any particular player. Nor is it harsh and unfair, as knowing Kelvin OOC, I've spoken with him about it and know EXACTLY why he's taken this decision. My statement is fact.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
But there are also plenty of people who haven't made that assumption. And what do you mean by 'the way it was presented'? With the initial statement that it was 'circulating'? That's hardly a sure sign of something being organised. What about the complete lack of any deadline to the petition, or a formal statement of what will be done with it? Those are pretty clear indicators of it not being organised, aren't they?

    [/ QUOTE ]

In RL, when somenoe stops me in the street and asks me to sign a petition, I don't NEED to ask them how long it runs for, or if my signature will make it to where it will be used, or even that the petition is organised rather than some random trash; such things are assumed automatically. If someone is going around with a clipboard asking for names, then the public are going to assume all of that as a matter of course.

If people responding IC to this petition assumed different, then they would have also posted the collectors delivering said signatures to central points, or RP'd asking for such information. But like me, they didn't as they made a reasonable assumption that there was no NEED to, as it appeared to be an organised petition. We still have not been given any IC reason to know otherwise.

    [ QUOTE ]

If whoever initiated that particular bit of plot wants to know what the OP would do with the signatures, here's a crazy idea - PM them and check that it's possible to get the signatures back to them. If they say then it's in their hands. If they do nothing - hey, guess what, that's an entirely reasonable thing to do! They could sit on it for a week if they want. Nothing wrong with that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nothing wrong with it per se, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a GM to respond to IC actions visibly. Several days have passed since the Scotbot handed those signatures over. Once the player took that action, it was down to the GM to respond in some way, even if such response took the form of a private PM. It's still the GM's job to let players know actions have been acknowledged in some way.
  10. I didn't say I want to know outcomes in advance. I said I made the reasonable assumption that a signature, once given, would make it's way to the petition organisers, as going by the way the whole thing was presented to us, it WAS an organised petition. No mention was made to it being otherwise, and without that, it's a natural assumption to make. Nor am I the only person to have made said assumption.

Ammon posted an IC petition, people have responded either signing or not signing. It's up to Ammon to tell us what happens next. Personally, had I originated this I most certainly would have responded to things like a huge wad of paper with every hero in the city's signature on it being brought in. Ignoring significant events like that is either bad GMing, or leads people to believe the plot is railroaded, with unforseen events ignored as they don't fit the profile.
  11. FloatingFatMan

    Outta here.

Shame to see you go Kelvin, but at least you still join us on my IRC server! So it's not goodbye, it's cya tonight!
  12. As I see it, we were presented with a petition, which we were told was being distributed in the original post. Therefore, using ONLY the IC knowledge from that original post, it is wholly reasonable to assume proper distrubution and collection channels, and that's the way all the IC posts have handled it as far as I can tell.

Yes, the petitioner NPC's are created by the individual writer, BUT once the petition is signed, I and I presume all the other contributors have made the totally valid assumption that the signature is passed up to the organisers, and therefore become the OP's responsibility to deal with.

I do not see this as an unreasonable assumption; Ammon started this plot off, it's now Ammon's job to deal with the signatures, including the complete list provided by the Scotbot, that have been handed to him. It's not our job to RP the handing over of the signatures, as the OP made it clear the petition was being distributed in an organised fashion. All we needed to do was to sign, or not sign; and the rest is up to Ammon. Like it or not, this is HIS plot, and this makes him the GM for it, whether he wants to be or not.

Now it seems that this reasonable assumption is wrong, there are no official distrubution or collection channels; the whole thing therefore comes across as a pointless exercise and has resulted in one of the earliest public RPers in CoH withdrawing from roleplay entirely, due to frustration caused by this petition.

If Ammon doesn't want to accept the responsibility of GMing a plot HE created, then there's no point at all in playing it out and people are likely to just ignore the whole thing and retcon it out of their characters.

I don't know of many legal systems that deny a person their rights to representation for having a criminal record. If there are any, they may well be in breach of the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Dude... It's a comic book game...

Besides, half the people signing might not even BE human! Tiger Dark (Eloise) has signed it. She's very not human, she just looks it.

    [ QUOTE ]

Otherwise any petition or bill could be balked by just one person signing as Daffy Duck.

  14. Eloise looked up from her seat at the end of Spankey's Boardwalk, and looked back at the sound of a sudden commotion over by the shops. Narrowing her eyes, she spotted a group of Tsoo bothering what looked like a teenaged girl.

Frowning, Eloise set her fishing rod down and hopped to her feet. As she did, she heard the girl cry out in pain, and with a flash of dark energy, teleported.

A split second later she reappeared behind the tatooed form of a Yellow Ink Man and grabbed him by the shoulder, digging her fingers deep into the nerve plexus there. "Leave the girl alone!"

The man she'd grabbed shrieked in pain as her powerful fingers dug into his shoulder, and he dropped to his knees, just as the 3 other Tsoo members turned on Eloise. "You make a big mistake, girly! You should have stayed out of this!" One of them called, drawing his sword.

Eloise narrowed her eyes at the sword, and twin beams of purple energy burst forth, striking the sword and reducing it to a melted stump in a second, "No, You made the mistake pal."

Shoving the man she was holding to one side, when he collapsed onto his front, one arm holding his shoulder and moaning in pain, she stepped forward into the group of Tsoo thugs.

    ***********************************

A short time later, Eloise turned away from the now unconcious thugs and knelt down by the girl, helping her to her feet, "You OK miss?"

The girl nodded gratefully, "Th..thanks for rescuing me miss! I... I thought I was done for!"

Eloise smiled, "Well, they won't be bothering you anymore miss, but you really shouldn't be hanging around areas like this you know; it's not exactly safe."

The girl nodded, "I know... But I was trying to get some more signa.. Oh! My clipboard with all the signatures! They grabbed it off me!"

Eloise glanced around for the clipboard, but didn't see it anywhere near, "Signatures? What for?"

"Oh, it's a petition. Some of us are trying to get more recognition for the unsung heroes in Paragon.. You know, Doctors and stuff. But... If I've lost my clipboard, all those signatures are wasted! I'll have to start all over again!"

Eloise glanced at the girl, who was obviously upset at her loss, "Hey, no need to cry... It's just some signatures right? Easy enough to get more. Anyway, they might not be lost, let's look around for a few minutes..."

The girl nodded, and stepping gingerly over the unconcious forms of her former attackers, started to look. Several minutes later, Eloise pulled something from a nearby trash bin, "Is this it?"

The girl rushed over to her, "Yes! That's it! Thank you SO much miss, you've saved me twice now!"

Eloise smiled and looked closer at the clipboard, reading the petition. "Well... It looks like a worthy cause... Not sure I like the glory seeking bit though..."

"Oh, we don't really think you heroes are like that miss, honest! We just think those that work behind the scenes should get more recognition, honest!"

"Well.. " Eloise took the pen clipped to the top of the petition, "I guess it won't really hurt, it's just a petition after all... But I'm not really a hero miss..."

"Oh you are! You beat up those thugs and saved me, so you are a hero, to me at least!"

Eloise looked up at the girl again, as she signed the petition before handing it back, "Well, thanks I guess... But I was just doing what anyone would have done in the circumstances."

The girl smiled at her as she took the clipboard back, "Thanks miss, you've been a big help!"

Eloise smiled back at her, "Really.. That's all I want to be."

I think the closest story so far that's come to winning in recent months was FFM's 'The Diary' in November.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I must admit, the reason I haven't finished that, and not really done much more since, is because people stopped commenting on posted stories, and they stopped winning Creative Genius. I'm not personally bothered about never winning it, that's not why I wrote the stories; but generally everyone just kinda stopped around the same time, and I suspect the main reason is because only art was winning anymore... I think that, in part, that's because pictures are easier to judge than fiction.

Writing stories is only part of the fun for me. Hearing that people are actually enjoying them is far more important. Hell, even the number of views on story threads plummeted.
  16. Well... The OOC differences seem to have settle down now, which is good.

  18. Most people here are quite able to seperate IC knowledge from OOC knowledge. If not, it would be impossible to involve more than 1 character in any given plot. IMO, OOC questions are not a problem if a person needs to know for their own needs as to whether they wish to continue taking part in a plot or not. Of course, one needs to avoid giving away too much, but asking for clarification on something is quite reasonable IMO.
  19. (( Back to some ICness! ))

Ellie paused in her walk through Talos to read a flyer pasted to one of the disused bus stops. Frowning, she read the title "Open Letter to All Heroes".

After a moment, she reached out and tore the flyer from it's place, swearing under her breath, "Great... Wait till the tabloids see THIS garbage..."

Muttering under her breath, she took off into the skies, heading for City Hall in Atlas Park; this was starting to get out of hand.
  20. ((Don't feel responsible for any perceived split mate, I would have posted as I did no matter what.))
  21. (( You know, this whole thing was looking interesting until peoples characters started getting maligned and OOC disagreements began. Ammon, this may be your plot, but you seem to be doing a good job of annoying some people that, IC wise at least, don't agree with the petition. Perhaps it'd wise for you to not make OOC comments on peoples posts and just allow it to develop naturally? Once you go OOC on plot like this, that plot is invariably ruined. ))
  22. Alas, I think you'll find the answer is no.

Nominated submissions must have been posted to this board during the appropriate month - for example, to qualify for the nominations thread for June (which will be posted in the first week of July), a submission must have been posted to this board for the first time during the month of June.

So even if he'd posted on this board, which he hasn't, the period he qualifies for has already passed.

'Tis a pity, but thems the rules.
  23. Well, even if he got genericed, don't you still have the character anyway?
  24. Ellie was sat in a street cafe, sipping her tea, when the brightly coloured hero approached her. As he neared her, he looked somewhat nervous and she smiled at him. "Yes? How can I help?"

The hero flicked his eyes over her slender figure, taking note of the white hair, and feline ears and the long tail curled on the ground, "Um, sorry to bother you miss but, are you Tiger White?"

Ellie smiled, "I was once, yes. Afraid I retired some time ago though."

The young hero smiled, somewhat nervously, "Well, I was wondering if you'd like to sign this? It's a petition to give the ordinary people of Paragon some recognition for their hard work."

Ellie raised an eyebrow, "Oh, that petition, I've heard about that. Mind if I read it first?"

The hero smiled and handed it over, "Sure thing!"

Ellie took the clipboard and read through the information leaflet, taking note of the low number of signatures, before handing it back. "I'm sorry, it's a good idea, but I'm afraid I can't sign this."

The hero looked surprised, "Uh, Can I ask.. Why not?"

Ellie smiled, "Well, it's not because I don't think the normal people in Paragon don't deserve some recognition, they do; but the way that pamphlet is worded it's both disrespectfull and insulting to the memory of heroes who've given their lives to this city."

The yound hero frowned, "I don't get you."

Ellie pointed over the young mans shoulder, to the distant statue of Galaxy Girl rising above Freedom Court, "Do you think it's fair that people like her, who laid down their lives to protect this city, without hesitation, to be branded a glory seeker? What about others like her? Hundreds of heroes have given their lives for this city, and more do it every day. Don't they deserve some recognition for their sacrifice?"

The hero gulped, "I guess, when you put it like that..."

"Exactly." Ellie replied, "And you have to remember as well, that the people mentioned in this petition, the police officers, the doctors, the lawyers; they ALL get recognition for their work already. They get a wage, pensions, insurance. What do we get?"

"I... I'm not sure what you mean?" The hero stammered.

"Well, almost every hero in the city serves because they want to use their gifts to help others. Virtually NONE of them take any kind of wage for this; they get no pension, and if they're killed, their loved ones don't get a death benefit from the city. Yes, there's a few glory hounds amongst them, but most do it simply because they want to help. Is it wrong for the city to want to thank them in some way?"

    "N... no... I guess not."

Ellie nodded, "Then there's people like me. I used to work hard for the city; I've been badly hurt more than once for this place, even killed a few times; fortunately not permanently. And in the end it all became too much. The constant fighting, the horrific scenes of carnage; even being forced at times to actually take a life to protect innocent people. Police get counselling for things like that; I didn't. Helping this city almost ruined my whole life, and I asked for nothing in exchange; and nothing was offered either."

Ellie rose from her table as the young hero looked at her with some shock, "So you see, I can't sign your petition, because it's nothing but a veiled insult to those of us who've given everything they had to this city; and asked for nothing in return."

The young hero looked after Ellie as she walked away from him, dissapearing in the distance. Then, looking down at his clipboard and the list of names signed on it; he carefully laid it down on the table, and walked away.
  25. Hey, don't blame me! I didn't know! Sorry buddy.
