You guys should try RPing over IRC. It's WAY better then forum or MSN RPing...
-
I was using the 7.4's up until earlier this week, when the 7.6's came out. These seem stable for me so far.
-
OK, well having had a play on test; during an air raid, you can forget about any zone RP!
-
FWIW, CoH works perfectly under Vista on my PC. Given it's a new one, are you sure you've downloaded the latest video drivers? The ones that come preinstalled are only basic ones. If it's an ATI card, the Catalyst 7.6's came out a few days ago.
-
People have used game NPCs before, even I have; but where I've used them I've tried to make their part relatively minor. Certainly, I've never attempted to give a game NPC any major events in my plotlines; too much risk of it all going kasploooie!
-
Well, I wish you all the best and I hope you don't get bothered by tools!

it will be in City Hall at about 8:30pm.

I do hope you don't regret holding it there. You're going to get a LOT of people taking the wee wee... -
[ QUOTE ]
Anyway, isn't it time for the developers to fix this..?
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, CoH isn't supported in Vista so it's highly unlikely there will be any specific Vista patches. -

I had a point in there somewhere, so...remember kids, just say "no", like Zammo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, not like Zammo I hope, as he was secretly saying "Yes"... -

Despite what FFM says. =P
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh I could say so many things there...
But I won't, promise!

But I was a newbie once too, and had my characters of Tragic Past and Butchered Family and all that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh, we've pretty much ALL done something like that at some point. If you've ever read Miss Ellie's Diary; you know how [censored] her life before Paragon was!
For me, I think the telling difference between a "newbie" and "veteran" roleplayer, is the ability to consider In Character Actions = In Character Consequences. Too many times have I seen people come up with intersting ideas; and then totaly ignore the consequences of their idea; which kinda makes interacting with them rather dull and boring for everyone else.
Another thing is the ability to get along with other peoples styles as well. I'll gladly admit that's something I've had problems with in the past; and it's caused arguments on more than one occasion; but I try harder now to get it through my thick skull that my way isn't the only way!
IMO though, one of the biggest indicators of a "newbie" roleplayer, is godmodding. It seems to be a concept that's rather difficult for inexperienced RPers to get to grips with. -
Have you tried Safe Mode yet? This will drop the game to minimum graphics settings and resolution. Also, have you tried installing DirectX9.0c yet?
-
Hmm.. Have you installed DirectX9.0c on that machine yet? Although CoH is an OpenGL game, it DOES use DirectDraw for the interface, and possibly doesn't like DX10 (It's known to not be 100% backwards compatible). I can't be certain as the first thing I did was install DX9.0c on my system.
I recommend you download it from MS and install it, it won't harm Vista in the slightest and is in fact needed for some games. -
Have you tried CoH in safe mode yet? There's a tickbox for it on the launcher.
EDIT: Also, make sure you're running it as administrator, and in the shortcut for the icon, edit the Compatibility tab to disable desktop composition. CoH doesn't like it. -
Reduce the refresh rate to 60hz, to test if that's the problem.
-
I install the CC, but it's not really needed TBH.
CoH doesn't use DX10, it's an OpenGL game (DX9 is used for the game interface). Which card is your friend using BTW? I don't see any mention of the model in this thread. The spec of the rest of the machine would be usefull also. -
Make sure all old drivers are removed from the system before installing new ones. Try a program called DriverCleaner.
I would also go for the 7.4's myself; the 7.5's steal my 32bit graphics mode!
Vista DOES run CoH perfectly well, as long as you have decent drivers, including motherboard drivers. -

Often I sit down and think "what happened again... was fun, this happened, that happened... but is it worth mentioning?" and then I start and besides those two parts, I remember 10 others... I add some, don't mention others. I re-live what happened in a way.
[/ QUOTE ]
Y'know Ghosty... That's probably why it takes you 3-4 hours to write your recaps...
When I write a recap, it's just stream of conciousness type writing.. It flows from the figers and I'm done in just a couple of minutes... And some of my recaps used to be LONG! -
I no longer recap my characters actions generally.
Why? Because the only people interested are the people I RP with; and they already know what my characters are doing.
I now only bother if I've been at a public spot like GG or PD, and then only if anything worth mentioning happened.
I also don't really bother to read recaps from people I don't RP with; mainly because I don't know them. -
Hence why I asked why mention it, if he doesn't want it actioned, and will never mention it in a public RP area.
Generally, people mention things about their characters in here because they want people to take an interest, and maybe even interact IC regarding the information. As it appears Krank does NOT want that, mentioning it seems to serve little point. -
What Spanish Inquisition? All I see is a fairly polite discussion on what would and wouldn't be gotten away with.
-
[ QUOTE ]
I plan to never, ever make it overt in-game. And I'd appreciate it if it was kept that way. I'd seriously hate it if people began using this kind of forum-information in-game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I, and I'm pretty sure ANY decent roleplayer, would NEVER use OOC information IC.
One question I'd like to ask though. If it's not something you ever want to bring up IC, why mention it? I understand you want some backstory there and of course that's perfectly fine, but with things like this, generally people mention it because they DO want to do something with it in-game. -
[ QUOTE ]
Thet's the point of the exercise. I can get away with more or less anything, as long as I have imagination enough to counter any objections. And I got a lot of free time and a rather huge imagination.
[/ QUOTE ]
But can you do it whilst avoiding godmodding, or avoiding frustrating the other player so that, OOC, they just go "Bugger this, it's boring", and wander off? There's the hard bit.
Personally, I'd rather have my character caught and deal with the IC consequences, than come up with some implausible reason why they get away with it. YMMV of course. -
[ QUOTE ]
Edit'd he'll have to be quick on his feet yeah to counter anything other throw at him.
Might be fun to try and catch him out ;p
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed. Of course, I would NEVER use OOC knowledge from the forum in roleplay; that would not be fair. So any chars of mine would have to become involved in any investigations as a part of their normal heroing...
