Quote:E, Q, and O are points; n is a vector. You'll notice in my matrix that I use things such as E.x and n.z; this is how I'm denoting the various components of the structure. O, as the origin, is generally considered {0, 0, 0}, but origin is really arbitrary. You define E as a position in R3, or three-dimensional space, for the eye, yet a position in three-dimensional space requires three variables. Even if we read E as a three-dimensional vector, you still need to note its coordinates with something. Same for Q, N and O, by the way, as I assume they're all treated as vectors, but no parameters for their coordinates are given.
Point B subtracted from point A results in a vector from A to B. I use E - Q, E - O, and Q - O in my matrix. The eqn, en, and qn variables are just in my post to prevent horizontal scrolling in the code box. If O is in fact {0, 0, 0} (in most systems that's a given, but it's not required for the projection math), then E - O is a vector containing the coordinates of E, but vectors and points are not the same thing.
Quote:And, to be honest, I'm actually a little lost as to what you'd need a normal vector for in this, as to the best of my knowledge, that's mostly useful in an analytical context where shapes are given as continuous formulas, rather than discrete collections of points in a 3D space.
1. Two points in the plane (with the implicit vector between the two points; see #2)
2. A point in the plane and a vector in the plane (giving the location and orientation of the plane)
3. A point in the plane and a vector normal to the plane (again, giving the location and orientation of the plane)
In the perspective calculations, I used the third definition, because I need the dot product of that normal with a few different vectors present in the problem. I could manage with one of the other two representations of the plane, but that would complicate the equations, since I'd then have to calculate the normal.
The matrix I posted is the expanded form of a more common representation, which is displayed as a 2x2 matrix (rather than the 4x4 matrix I posted), where the first element of the first row is a 3x3 matrix, the second element of the first row is a column vector in R3, and the first element of the second row is a row vector in R3.
Looking back at my post, I think I made a couple of mistakes with respect to the origin (for example, I should have used O - E, rather than -E), but since we're not composing a rendering algorithm at the moment, it was mostly for demonstrative purposes. -
Removing the enemy's endurance and recovery will reduce the amount of damage they do in general, but it's unlikely that you'll notice the reduction. The main problem is that completely draining their bar is difficult - Short Circuit slotted for endmod still need to be used twice in order to bottom out a target's endurance bar. And with a base recharge of 20s, and a 3s cast time, you probably would have defeated the enemy (or enemies) in that time if you had slotted for damage in SC instead. And SC is really the only power worth slotting endmod for endurance drain purposes, so that should tell you something about the other /Elec powers and Transfusion/ference.
There are two ways that I've seen effective endurance drain:
1. Running on a team with multiple people using endurance-drain builds, such that the enemies are drained immediately instead of waiting until your next SC. In particular, I've run with Don't Whiz on the Electric Fence.
2. Radiation Emission > EM Pulse, either slotted for endmod (with at least 82% enhancement), or combined with Power Build Up.
The first requires a couple of like-minded players. The latter can't happen until late in your character's lifetime, and even then, EMP has a very long recharge, so can't be used frequently. (Note that EMP doesn't have -recovery, so isn't enough on its own, either) -
As I recall, the waterspouts move in a well-defined and completely predictable pattern. Yes, that pattern combined with the radius of their KB means they cover the majority of the room through their path. But there are holes in the KB pattern. I don't think the waterspouts are an issue with the mission.
The fonts, on the other hand, are a total pain in the ***. I dont think I've completed the mission without at least a tray of purples for each pair. But be fair; the fonts don't have Psychic Shockwave, they only have Psionic Tornado (though an extremely powerful version...) -

Not feasible within the current game engine.
Quote:(Rope/Cable Control)- Entangle, Strangle, Hold, Immobilize, spin-around, grappling hook and movement power- swing from place to place with successful grappling hook.
The game does not currently support the skeletons you're asking for. -
-
And what about all those DoT powers which do less than 1% of, well... any target's health? If I see 200 "1%" damage numbers float over an enemy's head, I'd expect them to be dead twice over.

I'm a Ranger, with the mastery of Multishot. So I'm gonna fire multiple arrows from my bow at once.
However, I also know Dual Wield, so I'm gonna dual wield my bows, firing multiple arrows from each.
And, as a Ranger/Ranger cross-class, I can dual wield my Dual Wield! Prepare for pointy death! -
Quote:FOV alterations are also frequently used in video games for various effects. For example, a racing game will often increase the FOV as you accelerate, to give an illusion of speed.Incidentally, increasing the FOV mathematically will result in the center of the image being "pinched in," while the periphery becomes more stretched out. This can be disorienting, and is occasionally used for artistic flare. Decreasing the FOV results in a binocular-like zoom in, which is far superior to the typical method of actually moving the viewpoint closer to the object you want to zoom in on.
Quote:There is a rendering technique called a sky box which renders a full 360-degree scene around the camera (point of view)...
The only other geometric shape that produces the same result (and, indeed, identical pixels after rendering) is a sphere.
Quote:OK, then I'm missing something crucial about how these things are raytraced onto the screen.
Quote:I always assumed it was traced, at least mathematically, onto a sphere which was then plotted onto a flat.
Given E, a position in R3 for the eye, Q, a position in R3 in the plane of projection, n the normal to the plane of projection, and origin O:
Code:eqn := (E - Q) · n qn := (Q - O) · n en := (E - O) · n ( eqn - E.x n.x -E.y n.x -E.z n.x -E.x ) Persp(E, Q, n) := ( -E.x n.y eqn - E.y n.y -E.z n.y -E.y ) ( -E.x n.z -E.y n.z eqn - E.z n.z -E.z ) ( qn E.x qn E.y qn E.z en )
Quote:placing the flat too far from the centre runs the risk of placing it in front of geometry you really ought to be able to see. Which, by the way, explains why it's possible to shove your face through objects in some less refined FPS games. Hmm...
Quote:As anyone who's done any work whatsoever with maps knows, stretching the map of the spherical globe over a flat square sheet causes significant distortion. In the case of maps, the stretching is axial, stretching the points at the poles into rings the size of the equator and essentially stretching the globular map into a cylindrical map, which then incised and slplit. -
Quote:A while ago, there was no such thing as the Council, and 5th Column spawned where the Council does now. Then the Council appeared and there was the Council-5th Column war in the streets of Paragon, and the Council won. Now the 5th Column is back, and they're back to fighting.Another instance of this is with the council and the fifth column in steel canyon. Before the introduction of the barracuda strike force and dr kahn task force you saw the council being strong in steel canyon but with the addition of them you see a shift in the spawning of the council in relation to the spawning of the council.
Quote:Noticing these shifts and trends in the spawning I must say that it makes me more mindful to watch the shift in the spawning of enemies in the zones more closely cause I think there may be a hint of things to come in the way things spawn in the game as to things to come.
Quote:Like the change to the cape mission and now we have rikti moderators in the boards. That makes me think change is close at hand to the way invasions happen. Why did they go after hero ones letter only what is it about that letter that drew there interest. Could it be a hint of another strike force to come? Or is it a greater threat on the horizon that is hinted at here?
Additionally, try reading the letter. It's not hints of things to come, it's a recounting of the "present", 7 years ago, for posterity.

I was a hero once. The name they gave me was Hero 1. There were others before me and will be others after, but this is who I am now and forever.
I have been blessed with an amazing life. Ever since I found the cave and the Lake, nothing has ever been the same. I have tried my best to live up to the ideals of the Table and those who once sat around it. I draw my power from them and I've always believed that meant they have some way of knowing who I am and what I've tried to become in their shining image.
Our world is under attack by an alien threat. The invaders come through portals and few can do anything to stop them. I believe I can help. I've talked with Statesman about a plan. These Rikti are vulnerable to magic and I intend to lead a team and travel into their portals to shut them down from the inside. It's a one way trip and I won't be coming back.
Statesman, in true form, wants to do nothing more than to attack these creatures head on. He doesn't fully agree with my plan, nor do I agree with his brazen America approach to the problem. But, if I succeed, someone will have to stay behind to protect humanity from itself. Who better than the indomitable Statesman?
We are now two teams: Alpha and Omega. Everything is always Greek with him. I have left the sword Excalibur with his granddaughter, Ms. Liberty. She reminds me the most of myself at that age and I know she'll protect it well. There was no way I was going take such a sword to an alien world so far from my Lady. I hope such a choice does not weaken me.
If this is truly my last entry to this world I want to say that second chances are possible. I'm living proof of that. I had no right to enter the Lake or to speak with Her. I was angry, arrogant and upset at the course my father had laid out for me. Yet, She wasn't upset, but was calm and soothing. She saw me and saw what I could become - what I have become.
When I hold that sword I know who I am... I'm a hero. The first, the last... the one.
Stay True

Quote:You don't need to be a programmer to know why this isn't a good idea for a MMO that's nearing its 6 year mark.I know im no programmer and i dont know much about the financial aspect of MMO's beyond a few ways in how its done but this would be guaranteed income regardless on if these people stay or go.
Income is worthless if you're letting it sit in a bank account. Do you know why banks give you interest? As incentive to keep lots of money in their bank. Because if the bank (or rather, banks in general) doesn't have a bunch of money stored up in various people's accounts, then they can't function properly. They can't give out big loans to people (or other banks), who then pay the bank back, with interest. That interest - the interest on loans being paid back - is how the banks (as businesses) make money, among other endeavors depending on the bank.
What are you planning to do with this bank account that is building up "subscription fees" in interest? What are you going to pay the programmers, customer service representatives, and support staff with? What's going to back further development of the game?
When an MMO is first released, someone has been spending a lot of money on the game for several years in order to get the game created in the first place. whoever is playing the role of financial backer to the game is in the red when the game is released. A herd of people flocking in purchasing expensive lifetime subscriptions helps put the financial backer back in the black, while subscriptions keep the game afloat.
Expensive lifetime subscriptions make monetary sense when the game is first released. Starting up a lifetime subscription program 5 years later does not. Anyone with the City Traveler badge (60 months = 5 years) has paid somewhere between $660 and $900 in subscription fees alone, depending on what subscription plan they're on. If they had bought a $250 lifetime subscription in 2004, NCSoft would be out over $400, for that one player.
Consider if CoH started a lifetime subscription program tomorrow. People would buy it, and NCSoft would get a spike in revenue. Which would then drop like a stone. If CoH lasts another 5 years (not improbable; Ultima Online is still active), it would be unlikely that NCSoft would be making a profit off the game, with so many people playing for free.
If CoH shuts down on Friday, a lifetime subscription plan starting tomorrow would be a great idea for NCSoft, financially. Hell, it'd still be a good idea if CoH is going to continue for another whole year before shutting down. But since neither of those events seem likely, a lifetime subscription at this late date in the game's lifespan can only hurt. -
Quote:Then it's absolutely useless as a suggestion. If you said, when the game was released, "I want a shape changing powerset!", and then the devs gave you Peacebringers and Warshades, telling you: "Look! TWO shape changing powersets!", would you be satisfied?I was speaking in generalities because of course I don't know what it is to create a new power set from a technical standpoint, all the coding and whatnot, and what can or can't be done. I think the "details" are best suited for the devs to figure out.
You've got to say what you want. -
I am very close to putting an end to this heroic usurpation of my mad scientific genius, but a problem has occurred. Something has re-awoken many of the Devouring Earth specimens I had you capture, and now they're running riot in my own lab! They could well destroy my work if they are left unchecked. You must help me to subdue the beasts in my lab or else all will be lost.
You'll have to defeat all of the beasts, as well as recover 3 pieces of my work for safe keeping. As you know, I work for Operative Grillo on the Fury project. So, it, ah, isn't just my lab. There are other people there, and they are sort of my co-workers, so it might be good if you could get them out too. I may be mad, but I did just order some boxes of spiderling-scout candy from one of their daughters and I'll never get them if all of my co-workers are devoured.
You must contain the problem in my lab! And don't forget to save my co-workers or else I'll never get my boxes of spiderling sweets! -
And, once you've claimed the respec from your Veteran Badges window, you need to go to either Jack Wolfe in Galaxy City (in the building behind Back Alley Brawler), or to Arbiter Lupin in Nerva Archipelago (near Arbiter Frederick)
This is how you use all types of respecs, except for "freespecs", which are often granted by the devs to all characters soon after a new issue release, and can also be obtained by crafting a Respec Recipe, turning in Candy Canes during the Winter Event, or purchasing from the in-game store for $9.99. You can only have one freespec at a time (other respecs have no known limit). You use a freespec by typing "/respec" in the chat window.
Edit: Villains can also use respecs with Arbiter Sawyer, near the entrance to Pocket D in Port Oakes. -

Quote:Rule #1 of code optimization: Don't do it. Even if you think something is non-optimal, it is far better to leave it well enough alone than to 'fix' the 'problem', unless you are experiencing a noticable drop in performance.Because it is not at all being used at the moment and it could potentially impact things like loading time and zone geometry since it's one more thing, albeit a small thing, the server and the player's comp have to deal with.
(Rule #2 is "Profile, don't guess", since what you think is causing a bottleneck in your program is rarely the actual source of the problem) -
I believe it's a bug, but if you slot Heal enhancements in the same power as a +Regen unique, the unique grants more than it's stated amount of +regen.

Quote:If you want to get technical about it, "same name" is only a rule of thumb, too. Set bonuses are actually individual powers in the game engine. Powers which are granted to you by slotting sets, and which you can have 5 of. The name is just a display name for the (set bonus) power; it's entirely possible for two different powers to have the same display name. For an example, nearly every enemy in the game has a power named "Resistance" which is always on, but the actual power is different. Purple Triangles of Doom which AVs have also comes from a power called "Resistance".Those are the only two I can think of where "5x the same bonus" isn't a good sloppy rule of thumb...
Now... there are no current set bonuses with name collisions like that, but it's a possibility within the system.
Quote:Fulmens, the status resistance cap was lifted a long time ago, to something like 10,000%.
At any rate, 2.2% resistance still has little value. In fact, with the resistance cap increased by two orders of magnitude, 2.2% has even less value than when the cap was 100%.
Purples work exactly the same. The problem with purples is that every piece of the purple set is unique, so you can't slot the full set multiple times. However, you could slot 2 pieces of Hectomb each in 3 different melee powers, and get +4% recovery 3 times, without branching into other purple sets.
