Is there a limit to the amount of salvage racks a base can have? Vaults, invention tables, enhancement tables?
-
There were only two of us at first (the original starters). Two more have come in at a later time, but they leveled right along with us.
At level 4 when there were only two of us, our damage bonus was up to 150%. It is an awesome sight to see epic bosses and heroes go down so fast at these early levels.
Our current levels are 14, 13, 10 and 8. We still need a rad/kin and archery/kin. We currently have 2 fires, dark and frost. We picked these because they don't have knock back which would kill any hope for AoE.
When we get to a group the dark immobilizes them, we all hit siphon power, then we nail them. They are usually dead in less than 10 seconds unless a boss strays.
None of us are taking stamina. This is because SB is twice as good and we will have multiple buffs.
This is a great deal of fun and not the same routine. If anyone else would be interested, we still need 4 more. We play them on evenings -- EST.

RED villain side -->>
We were out doing Ice Mistral last night and were admiring a Kinetic Corruptor's buffs. My 35 brute was keeping at about 430% damage. Another VG buddy was with me and afterwards we started talking about building a couple Kinetic Corruptors. He went with Dark for the debuffs and control. I went with fire for damage.
Then I thought wouldn't it be cool if we had a full team of Kinetic Corruptors. Now we're pretty active, but agreed not to play them without the other with them.
We are level 5 now (went to sleep after that -- it was like 6am. If any other active player would like to join us with this project, we need 6 more.
Primaries needed:
(1 or 2) Archery
(1 or 2) Ice Blast
(1 or 2) Radiation Blast
(0 or 1) Fire Blast
Again secondary must be Kinetic
Why? When we both cast Siphon Power we get a damage buff of 40%. So what would happen if 8 of us cast SP... 160% damage buff?
If we all has Siphon Speed and multiple Speed Boosts on us, would we need stamina? With all that recovery we could easily all run the leadership pool, assault and tactics. 8 x 15% damage, plus do we need to put accuracy in our blasts? Could you imagine the recharge rate? I'm sure we would cap a lot of the "caps".
If you are interested in joining us let us know here. We are both in the EST timezone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Note:
We started a new VG about 3 weeks ago called, "The Red Dragon Clan". We already have a fully functional base due to our "active" nature. We don't have 10,000 inactive members like most VG's. We are a close group of friends and make new ones every day. We constantly have teams running and do special projects. We got the Demonic Accolade for the newer members two days ago.
You new Corruptors and others are welcome to become a Dragon and grow with us. -
/e smacks himself in the forehead!
I had just put some wall lights in the entrance yesterday
Thanks for the help! -
Off the entrance I have a Secure Teleport Chamber going one way and a workshop going the other. When I try to place another room off the entrance in another direction it doesn't allow me to. There is ample grid going that way; as I upgraded the plot size. Can't the entrance be the center of your base with rooms coming off all 4 sides?

I had the same problem with my bots/dark at that level, but at 35ish is really sped up --been 50 for years now -- hang in there!

Back when willpower came out I made a tank so I could try all the new powers much quicker than playing a scrapper. After trying them all out, I decided to make a DB/WP Scrapper. DB was interesting at first, but it was slow to come of age and the damage just wasn't there.
So I looked at the powerset comparison on Mids. It said that the highest DPS for a scrapper was Claws. Wait a minute... Claws?? This was always known as a low damage set. My choices always steered clear of it. But if Mids said that it was the highest DPS I would give it a go.
My first power was Strike. I had tried swipe on one character 6 months before and hated the low damage (he was deleted). So this time I tried Strike and WOW! Non-enhanced and I could almost one-shot the npcs. With a base recharge of only 3.2 seconds, this was looking good. When I got my first AoE power "Spin" I enhanced it as soon as possible and headed to the large mobs in Perez Park for fast leveling.
On this character I didn't train my first defense "Mind Over Body" until I got Recovery at 20. This was tough, but doable. Just relied on Fast Healing.
Anyway this was my first level 50 character in over a year. The ones between were just alt trials. Since I started playing computer games in 1975, online games from 1982 and mmogs starting in 1999, I have never played a more powerful and FUN character before this scrapper. When I was 42 I sk'ed with a 8 player team doing a level 50 mission. After a while I was very bored when they were trying to pull out only a couple at a time. So I broke from the group and went past the SK limit back then of 200 feet, making me 42 again. Got myself in the middle of a large mob -- 25 or so. After about 5 minutes the team leader asked me how I was doing. Told him that I was having FUN! I was taking very little damage and of what I did take was being regenerated back (I had tough and weave fully slotted).
I also had Conserve Power trained from the Body Mastery epic pool. Later when changes to the pool were made, I respec'ed to Focused Accuracy and Physical Perfection. Using only regular IO's I run 7 toggles including FA constantly and don't have any endurance problem. (claws being a low endurance set).
ANYWAY...
I have been trying to find another character that is just as fun. I have not found one yet.
Any ideas? -
My Thug/Thermal MM is 33 so I am seeing the big performances of the set.
Bruiser is my brute. His lethal/smashing resistance is 45%. Fire is 48% (others are about 20%)
With the Enforcer leadership buffs, the bruiser also sees a 19.1 DEF ALL including psionic.
With the Enforcer's Assault buffs and Forge, the bruiser sees a constant damage bonus of 65%.
Yes the Arsonist is a pain running into melee and committing suicide, but when he dies I don't really care and keep going with the 5 (that don't die very often).
I can send the bruiser in the middle of a large group of npcs and only seldom heal him. I can go as far as just using the bruiser if I wanted to be a brute's personal healer/buffer.
The remaining powers are debuff's for bosses, av's or whatever. It has been a really fun set. More fun and much better survivability then my 50 bot/dark mm. -
Worked fine until today. When I run CoX the client opens and says connecting.... but never does. The only option is the blue "quit" button. Anyone else having this problem?
PS I just signed up for another month if that triggers anything -
Small debuff? When I got my L35 (now 50) claws/wp scrap's RttC slotted with 3 health and 3 to-hit debuffs, I ran him over to a zone with +2's and 3's and stood there in the middle of them without attacking. They rarely hit me at all (if they did, the damage was regenerated back).
Shh! Don't spread it around, but WP is overpowered -
Yes, but I wonder if there is a delay for RTTC to start working. If I jumped into the middle of a large crowd of baddies, shouldn't RTTC be activated at maximum regen? Or is there a few second delay that causes problems with alphas?
-
The reason I like to play tank is when an 8 man team gets to a large group, they all just freeze wondering who will make the first move. You ever see this? It happens all the time and I am sick of it.
I would play tank with my wp scrapper because the tanks were usually afraid to run into it first. Only my 10+ years of mmog experience keeps me alive. When I play tank in a group, I rush into the mob to always keep the fight going. This really speeds up the game and triples the xp. I just hope the healer is on their toes when I make this jump. -
Biospark, Although my 50 claws/wp scrapper did very well in the middle of a large group, but my pure wp tank could not. That is not, tanking the Alpha Strike. His health would drop down so fast you'd think he was a level 1 with no defense.
WP works well in sustained combat with 10 foes around you, but the sudden surge of damage cannot be handled. My WP tank is 24 using L-25 generic IO's. Even with full defense and tough/weave, he gets his butt kicked trying to handle an alpha. It looks good on paper, but not in operations.
From what I have read, the stone tank (granite) is the only one that can just jump into a large group and go AFK if they want. With shield charge, lightning rod, ice patch or possible one of the mace aoe's you can jump into a group and knock all the baddies on their butt and survive without being stone. -
Hmm, never thought the saying, "A good offense is the best defense." applied here. I will have to study that more closely. Thanks for the tip.
-
I must admit then when I play a specialized character (which is pretty often) it is a bit extreme. When it is said that you won't see a difference until 32, what they mean is "most tanks" won't see a difference until 32 because they don't get all their defenses until then due to training and slotting secondary powers.
I dual spec my tanks asap. One is full defense with maximum slotting and low attacks. I play this spec when the team is taking too much damage. My attack rotation is horrible, but doable (brawl w/single damage enh, starter secondary with 1 acc slot, vet axe, that free ranged knives power and sometimes air superiorty depending on the build. My shield/elec tank has to wait until level 16 to get thunder strike. The first real secondary.
The other spec is maximum secondary slotted for damage with primaries as a fill. This spec is used to level faster.
This is how you play when you are used to playing by the extreme methods. Extreme characters start very weak and feel gimped until it has gone 30 levels or more. There is a point that it starts to gain a great deal of power and eventually becomes the best character in the game. This is no longer necessary due to the ability to respec your character which was unheard of 5 years ago.
When I used to play Asheron's Call (1999 to 2004 -- (before being able to swap your build), I created an extreme archer. Imagine if you will, starting a character with 5 health. A character that needs strength to carry stuff and an archer has to carry around heavy arrows (not like the fantasy arrows of CoX). His strength was minimal at the start. I was severely gimped right out of the box. When I got to level 50 (5 months later) I was better, but had the power of a level 25. Other players in the guild pleaded with me to re-roll a better archer, but I stuck with it for 8 months. When I finally reached level 70, I trained creature magic. This allowed me to buff all of my attributes and skills by 40 points each. You see, my strength was my magic ability. I started with the attributes of a mage (100 focus and self, with 100 coordination for archery). By level 75 I was stronger than a level 120 archer. I could kill a creature with 1 arrow instead of others using 15 to 25. This character reached level 165 very fast. The cap is 275, but I left to play other mmorpgs.
This is how I created my tanks. So when I am only 25 every defense is trained and slotted with IO's. So the damage I am seeing now will be the same damage I will see at 32.
RTTC is slotted with 3 heals, 2 to-hit debuffs and 1 taunt (all level 25 IO's) -
You all have said that things will get better with SO's. It states in the post that the WP tank has IO's (level 25).
So are you saying that even having all defenses fully slotted with IO's, I still have to wait 8 levels (24 to 32) before I see a true tank? Does part of the game mechanics "switch on" at 32?
If this is true I will keep playing them to watch the transformation. -
First I made a WP tank. He has all of the wp defenses as well as tough and weave. This tank has full plain IO's
This tanker is level 24 (no secondary skills trained)
Next was Electric Defense -- all defenses (no tough yet), but with DO's so far
This tanker is level 12 (no secondary skills trained)
Last was Shield Defense -- all defenses (no tough/weave yet), with DO's so far
This tanker is level 12 (no secondary skills trained)
When I jump into a group of 3 or more baddies, I take damage. Massive damage with yellows and up. If not getting heals or popping greens pretty quickly, I will die.
A tank is supposed to be able to "tank" the damage. I understand a small health drop, but not all this (full health to zero in 7 seconds inside mob of 6 yellow and 2 oranges). This is not what I was looking for in a tank.
Any help here? -
I have learned my lesson. I have been flamed by almost everyone and now this serious post has become a farm (lets see if we can bump it to 100 replies, 200? 300?)
In the future you will never hear about my ideas and thoughts again. But when you hear a rumor of a player that did something that was supposed to be impossible, just remember that I would have shared it with others. In the future it will just be collected like my long list of patents.
You ever played Eve Online? I figured out a way to operate the largest epic mining barge with full T3 gear and getting full mining yields without having most of the skills necessary (saving over a year of skill training). It this find was given to one corp, the game would be so lopsided no one would ever play Eve Online again. When I reported to the developers of my findings, their reply was that if they fixed it, it would create too many other bugs. So this will never be nerfed. Then you have to ask yourself, "Will this exploit work on the largest fighting craft?"
I will change my global so you will never know who I was. You all own this forum and I overstepped my bounds. My apologies.

The combination you chose, Force Field/Dark Blast, is perhaps the worst possible combination. It provides no defense or resistance debuffs to the enemies,
As I stated in previous posts, he was made pre-ED. his 6 slotted shields netted 153% defense. Plus the 153% Dispersion Bubble. His 6 slotted Maneuvers was 153%. Tactics was 6 slotted with to-hit buffs for a total of 153%. To say he provided no defense would be incorrect. It was very rare for any damage to get through. If it did I was also trained in medicine. The character was in heavy demand.
On a very rare occasion I would throw out a blast, but as soon as I did I was killed. That is why it was very rare -
Maybe I should just quit while I am ahead. No matter what I say.
If I say, "CoV is short for City of Villains", you would tell me that I was wrong. Flame on!
In RL I am an engineering designer. I recently invented a device that increases the air temperature from the vents of a heat pump by up to 50 degrees F. Energy consumption drops drastically and it works every time in minutes.
Your response might be, "Who cares. I like a cool house in the Winter!
I am what you would call, someone that thinks "outside" of the box. My IQ was tested at 166, but that was back in high school. If I tell you that decreasing the defense of a critter by 50% will increase your dps, you might want to try it before flaming it just to get your post count up.
And my global name IS Firewasp, but I do not only play CoH. I play 28 mmogs, so the chances you will see me online anymore are slim. You might catch me on Aion though. I am in a guild on CoH, but it is a private guild and base.
The only time I play CoX is when there is a new Archtype. I've played the bane and it is low dps compared to a scrapper. Tried a widow the other day. The power timers are extremely long which makes it too boring to play. Hit the npc, wait 4 seconds, hit them again, wait ... I may as well be playing a broadsword.
I know, this is a Defender board so I will stop. I would say that 30% of the replies here have been very good information for a Defender prospects, while 70% of the replies were nothing more than flamers. Squash any good idea people. -
I have read all your posts for the last 30 minutes. Long ago when CoH was a few weeks old I was playing a dark/dark defender. After playing with my team for several missions, we were outside a mission waiting for couple others to sell/train, etc.
One of the others asked me if I understood what a Defender's role was. Told them I wasn't really sure. They said that it was to help defend the team. That I wasn't designed to be a mini blaster. One told me that my dark blasts were actually debuffs to accuracy and that I should slot them for that. In other words, they told me what I have been saying all along.
If a EMP joined your team and no one was getting healed because the emp was too busy blasting away at the target, would you care to have them on your team?
If a TA/archer joined the team and all attacks were slotted for damage, would you want them?
If a tanker joined your team and they were always the first to die, would you believe that was actually a tank?
If a controller came aboard and did nothing but let their pets do damage while they stood that watching, would you like that?
This is all I am saying. Every member on a team has their specific role to play. This is what makes up a team. If a team is made up of 8 blasters and they are fighting +4's, that team will constantly fail. It would also fail if it were 8 scrappers.
I was in a team once with 7 Blasters and me - a claws/wp scrapper that had no choice but to play the tank. It worked, because 3 seconds after I jumped into a large group, the npcs were all dead. The Blasters needed someone with some sort of defense to take the alpha.
I have an 18 rad/pain corruptor. Only have 1 offensive power that is unslotted and not even on the power bar. Everything else is in the heals. This way the team does more DPS, then if I were to cast blasts. The TEAM does more DPS because they are alive.
How much DPS can you do if you are dead? How much could you do if you rarely died? There was another pain corruptor on the team today. Her heals are like 100. Mine were over 250. And I could cast them really fast. If I stopped healing and started casting my blast, the DPS of the entire team would drop.
Could you imagine doing a raid on WoW without healers? It can't be done. Teams without healers don't last long against purples. These healers must have enough slots in their heals to heal a player that took a hit of several hundred. Like the alpha tank.
If a Defender lowers the npc's defense by 50%, the teams DPS would go up. Not everyone in the army carries a gun. It has to be this way to do the best job. -
LOL
A) the rules I was mentioning in the original post were not rotations. They were that we all would level together. No playing that character when the rest of us are at work, etc. We would set up a time when everyone could participate and stick to it. They were also on what to train and when. And especially how to slot them, but this wouldn't be a problem, because when the others would listen to me on skype explaining the goal, they were very excited to be a part of it. Just like you might have seen on that video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6skxcQCV2GU
B) When I was teaming with my FF defender, I wasn't just standing around for 4 minutes waiting to recast the shields. I was also playing healer and sometimes even stopped a wipe from happening. Like if everyone's health was very low due to an ambush, I would use team teleport to get everyone to a safe location to heal.
Now this defender was played before ED and my shields, tactics and maneuvers were 6 slotted. This made the team nearly invincible and the to-hit buffs were so high that they could hit +6's with ease. Team Teleport was slotted with 6 range extensions. We could travel across a map in seconds. This was 250% faster than every over travel power. It was an experiment to see if it could be done and it was highly successful.
My BIO was telling players his abilities. All other FF defenders back then might put 1 or 2 enhancements in their shields and the rest in their blasts. -
~Scientist
I go along with training blasts up front, but there is a better and faster way and you don't have to respec later on. When I started my FF defender, the first blast was not filled with any enhancement. It wasn't even on the power bar.
If I couldn't get on a team by saying, "L2 FF defender lft", then I play a scrapper, get on a team and then later ask if they would mind if I switched to my Defender. This would usually work and my FF Defender became my main and went to 50 without ever killing a thing.
Players liked the fact that my shields and leadership were fully enhanced. I trained the medicine and Teleport pool powers which could throw in a heal if needed and if there was a wipe, I would teleport to a safe spot and rez who I could.
I was a team player and was asked back again and again. By 35 I was part of a nightly group until 50. I did the reactor trial 8 times one Saturday and 11 times on Sunday. Players would come out saying they had failed when the reactor blew, and I offered to make sure they all got through it.
Like I said, I didn't ever have to use blasts to level. Why would anyone else except as a debuff as it was intended? -
~Jade Dragon
If an energy Blaster's base damage if Energy Blast is 102.6 and a Defenders Energy Blast has a base of 59.3, I would hardly call this equal.
Another example: Rain of Arrows: Blaster 225 -- Defender 146
No way is a primary power equal to a secondary.
I didn't say that a Corruptor shouldn't train their blasts. You must have been skimming my article instead of actually reading it. Just as I said that a team of Defenders would be very powerful, well a team of Corruptors would have have the Defender like buffs with a more powerful set of blasts. These buffs are 20% less than a Defenders and their blasts are 10% less than a Blaster's, but under those circumstances it would be the best that could be done on CoV.
And I never said anything about using a "bug" to gain an advantage. Again you didn't read the entire article. I said that that I learned the artificial intelligence of a npc and discovered its weakness. This does not work on PvP, because your opponents will all be different and ever changing PvE npc AI's are constant.
Would you consider changing a rotation of powers an exploit? How about using IO's instead of training enhancements. Oh yea, that's an unfair advantage since a new player could not afford it, but an exploit?
~Arondell
I have actually heard of the "Repeat Offenders". They proved it could be done and I wish I could have been part of that group. It would have been interesting and fun.
CoX has been around for almost 5 years? So posting an article like this may be a little late. But when you still see level 20 Defenders playing their character like an underpowered Blaster, you might actually regret recruiting them on a team. On WoW, if certain DPS players are too low in damage, they will not be invited back.
Like that team last night fighting the purples. I watched and it took over a minute for a Defender to kill one npc. The while time he was fighting , his health was getting lower and mana was very low. There would be no way to continue to the next npc. Fighting a group of a dozen purples takes the average team about 30 to 45 seconds. but after 5 minutes we were only a third of the way through. It would have taken us hours to finish the mission. When I died after getting no support from the defenders (the FF def did not recast the base deflection shield), I went to the hospital and quit from that point. I had tried to explain why, but the Defenders said they would make that build work. I guess I am just more efficient then that.

Very good analysis!

Great video -- I can see you also like to think outside the box -- wish I was there!
Great posts from those that read my posts and fully understood where I was coming from
