But they work in shops. Surly it is easy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Easy to get a present, yes. Easy to get the right present? Maybe not so much.
Let's say you have to go get a gold and diamond necklace. You don't want to get one off QVC, and you know where you can get a great one for your parent/partner/pet cat. However, you're working until 9/10pm on Christmas Eve. Not a problem, because you can just get one from work, right?
Well, not exactly. In this scenario, you work at a butchers shop. Looks like all your parent/loved one/pet cat is getting for Christmas this year is a slab of steak. Personally, I'd love to get good red meat as a present (and incidentally, did, for my birthday) but other people might not.
This year is technically my first Christmas, and I had a helluva time choosing Stasis' Christmas present. I've heard the horror stories about previous presents for her and her family from her last boyfriend, because they were all bought from where he worked which doesn't really show care and consideration for the person. The present I've picked out for her is truly awesome...but I don't know when I can buy it. Especially since she's currently ill and staying in at home so I can't sodding well buy her anything and bring it in. Ahem.
Her health, of course, is my only concern.
GO AWAY SO I CAN BUY YOU SHINY THINGS! -

Out of interest, FG, are you taking what was meant as some sarcasm by someone (not me) as a grave insult to all shop workers? Or some indication that all shops shut early? Or some desire to intimate that everyone has it worse than retail workers?
[/ QUOTE ]
Beats the hell out of me, I didn't make that post. I should change my forum password.
I think what Stasis was trying to get across was that retail workers, at least, work too late to get any 'last minute' shopping done. -

Only if you work very late.

Well, yes. Stores close at what time on Christmas Eve? I know mine shuts at 4pm, but the people who work in it will be there until at least 6pm, if not longer to get ready for Boxing Day. Anything after 4pm must be considered "very late", then.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not all stores. Bet you my local Tesco petrol station thingy will be open later than that. A loaf of bread may not be much of a present, but at least it's something.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most people I know in retail won't finish until 9pm Christmas Eve, no different to another working day. The shops may shut for business late afternoon, but there's still an awful lot of work to be done "behind the scenes". Where do you think the magic Boxing Day sales come from? -

Anyone who doesn't recognise that Christmas is not a universal time of happiness and goodwill doesn't actually know what 'the spirit of Christmas' is, but then I've long thought you were just a well-dressed troll, GG.
[/ QUOTE ]
The "spirit of Christmas" is to find something to feel good about, the time when those who are lucky enough to live fulfilled lives help cheer up those who aren't.
[ QUOTE ]
Merry Christmas to those who are likely to have one. Hope life treats you better next year to those who won't. Sure hope life treats me better next year than it has this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Merry Christmas to everyone. It's a good-well wish, not a freakin' statement of fact. It's the reason, despite not being religious in any sense, I always send the Salvation Army some Christmas cards, wishing people I have never met - who live on the street, or in hostels, or any other somber place - a very Merry Christmas. Not because I don't recognise the "true spirit of Christmas", in fact, precisely because I do recognise the true spirit of Christmas.
No one should be miserable at Christmas - whether they celebrate it or not, whether the rest of the year has been good to them or not. Of course, that won't happen - and GG and I are obviously much too naive and incomprehensibly rude for hoping everyone can be happy at this time of year.
By the way, this was Stasis - so take any anger out on me, not on Fire Guardian.
And a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Hanukkah to everyone. -

Wasn't it his Birthday yesterday?
[/ QUOTE ]
You a winner! Ha ha ha. You a winner! Ha ha ha.
...What's that from?
Anyway, thanks all for my belated wishes. I truly had a great birthday, starting with my newest addition to my small but growing guitar collection, as Stasis bought me a USB guitar. Truly, I'll be rocking out multitrack style at some point.
I've been on the go pretty much non-stop since midnight Tuesday, so I'm going to hit the hay now, but thanks again! -

It is illegal for a lady to eat chocolates on a public conveyance.

Luckily that doesn't count here - I'd be a multiple offender

Tempting, so tempting, but no, it's Thanksgiving...

Hahaha! Golden Girl is fat!

Eating a little chocolate now and then is fine - especially if you exercise a lot

A little? Hah. Stasis goes through a tin of Terry's Chocolate Orange slices a day. -
I remember a while ago, one of my cousins in NJ told me about a website with "crazy" laws we have here in England, and told me he didn't believe any of them, especially that silly one about us having to pay for a licence to watch TV...
I retaliated with completely understandable and plausible State laws from New Jersey such as:
<ul type="square">[*]It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder.[*]It is against the law to frown at a police officer.[*]Handcuffs may not be sold to minors.[/list]
I really want Pumpkin Pie.First year without it, ever.

Happy day of cakes! Each zombie I kill today, I will dedicate to you.

The guy above me quotes The Guardian. Which, let's face it, is an awesome name for a newspaper.
Speaking of newspapers, I went to pick one up but when I got to the papershop it had blown away. -
Sorry to bump, but I thought I'd give a quick update before my PC gets unplugged and moved over to the new house.
We've both settled in, and Stasis is enjoying the new job. She's also enjoying the fact that I'm doing the majority of the housework. She's slowly going crazy without any Net connection (or meaningful TV signal...we only get ITV 3 and QVC), but the phone line was put in about an hour ago, and I've just set up an account with Be Internet (unlimited downloads, 24 meg line...take that, you NTL gits!) so within the next 2-4 weeks, we should be back up and running.
Although she's at work right now, I know Stasis would want to pass on her thanks for all the heartfelt messages on this thread since she moved from Bromley. I know she misses her friends, and I'll do my best to make sure she's still around.
Okay, I have to unplug this thing, so I'll be back in a few weeks, myself. Buh-bye now! -

I just noticed him, myself, Dave. I think he IS the announcement.
"And, boys and girls, we now have a new pet chimp to bother with notify moderators. Please poke a stick through the cage for....GRAV_MAN! What? You thought i13 was being released on Monday? Hahaha, you poor saps." -
Try telling my manager that. I suggested I can sell more at home playing RtCW than I can on the shop floor.
Then I got a P45. Damn Nazis ruin everything for me. -
Rednames have a tendancy to work late hours. I recall seeing Rockjaw and Bridger make posts at about 8:30/9pm more than once.
