    Roll up a Fire/Kin Corrupter.

Min/max the crap out of it.

Call me again when I21 comes out with all its shiny new powers and content.
I think the OP just meant whats everyones outlook on their toons that may not perform quite as well as their main toons. Not saying his are better or anything like that.

For me anyway, if I'm not playing one of my "top performers," I try to come up with a concept I find interesting and run with that. It helps me stay invested in the character. Like the poster above me said, a good costume helps as well. An example is a toon I was thinking of the other day who was going to be a sort of time traveling hitman from the future. He works for an organization that was involved in the majority of high profile assassinations that have taken place on earth. Their reasoning was to attempt to matain some sort of balance in the world in terms of good and evil. They believe in a philosophy of leaning to far to one side of the moral spectrum could have disastrous consequences. Their next target is Statesman and my toon was sent to assassinate him.

I had a vauge idea for that and then I read this saying about how "Without good there can be no evil, without evil, there can be no good. Embrace the grey." I thought it would be a good fit for a vigilante toon and the rest fell into place. To me it really grabbed my interest, so I rolled him up as a DP/MM Blaster and The Temporal Hunter was born. Best sets in the game? Nope, but the concept will keep me interested. Although now I think I'm going to have to shelf him and remake as a DP/Time Corrupter. Thats another story tho. >.<

I am not sure about the level 32 respec. The budget build looks great when it's at level 50, fully slotted/IO'd but at level 32 (Minus 6 powers and half the slots), it might not work out as well then when it was 50. Maybe use your Secondary Build for that instead.

I find it difficult to make influence playing normal missions. I often do Task Force while leveling, eventually trade the reward merits for Hero Merits then exchange them for the expensive IO's. I gain some levels and get the Task Force Commander accolade in the process.
So basically I should wait till at least my 40's to respec into one of these builds? What should I do until then? Just slot regular IO's so I don't have to keep buying enhancements and start placing bids for the IO's that are in my build? And that way when I get to 40ish I'll have them all ready to go kinda deal? Sorry for all the questions lol, this is all completely new for me.

I think the build you posted is about 2 billion influence. The miscellaneous LotG's, Numi +reg/rec, Miracle +rec and Obliteration acc/dam/rec/end (x2) will be close to 1 billion already.

Start placing low bids now and hopefully you'll get them when you're ready.
Hmm, would it make more sense then to respec at 32 into a cheaper IO build and use that to level up. Then while leveling up with the cheaper build, start collecting more influence and placing bids as I can for the IO's in my more expensive build. And then in probably the low 40's start switching things over to the other build? If I were to do that, here's a cheaper (I hope lol..) build that I'm proposing to use. Any thoughts?

  4. Thanks for the quick responses. Ya I found a really good guide for Elec/Shield builds and made a few switches with slotting levels and such so I can't really take all the credit for it lol.

Do you think that build there is viable for me to level up with going from 32 onwards, or should I be doing something else and gradually switching over to it? First time really seriously IO'ing out a toon so I'm not sure how well it'll work as I'm leveling vs already near the endgame. Also, think I could do it for under a billion?

Thanks again for all the help. Really appreciate it.
  5. Hey all, got some great build advice on these boards not to long ago, hoping to get a repeat of that.

I have a Elec/SD Scrapper whose about to hit 32 and get Lightning Rod. I think I want him to be my first serious farmer that I make an IO build for. I searched the boards for guides/advice on IO builds, eventually found some stuff and made a build based on that. I have no idea if I did it correctly tho or if its even possible within my budget (Currently I have just under a billion influence). So I was hoping I could get some assistance. Here's what I've got so far.

  7. Wow looks like you've met or exceeded all the major areas in my build using sets And made some good improvements in the more important sections of the build. Thanks a bunch! One question though. Roughly how much do you think all that would cost?

And yet, it's terribly unbalanced. You have ED-capped many things that don't need it. Your single-target attacks have no Endurance reduction, so if you have to use them, you'll run out of Endurance and all of your toggles will crash. You have Dark Regeneration maxed out for Accuracy and Recharge, but not for Endurance - which is where it's really going to hurt you the most.

You have Hasten - which is fine, really, "Everybody" takes Hasten. But it makes no sense to me, when you have no shortage of attacks and you have no 'nuke-type' powers that can benefit from the Recharge. It looks like the only reason you have Hasten, is so that you can build your entire attack-chain out of AoEs. Okay, it makes Conserve Power come up more often, too, so you can use that to compensate for not End-slotting your attacks.

I'm going to take this build out back, and straighten it out a little, for you. Unfortunately, it may leave you with More questions, rather than less, but I hope to make it more efficient and effective.

    Be Well!
    Fireheart
I def agree with you that my single target attacks are lacking. My reasoning for that though is that with the two dmg auras ticking quite frequently and 3 other aoe/cone attacks going off, that by the time I focus on the bosses in a group it usually only takes a Ripper or two with an impale to drop them.

Now if I'm fighting above +2 then ya, there'd be no way I could sustiain enough single target dmg before my end bar was gone. But when leveling him up it seemed with all that aoe dmg going on that bosses weren't really a big issue once I got to them after my aoe chain. Basically the single target stuff is my last resort with this guy. I do have a little end reduction in all my aoe attacks. I see what you mean about dark regen though, that could probably use another slot (or two) to reduce the end consumption.

For hasten, more recharge just makes my big aoe attacks come back faster. That and making my heal come back asap, its not really there for any other reason like you mentioned.

I'm def open to suggestions however, so I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Thanks for the help!
  9. Hey all, coming back to the game after a break. I never really got into using IO Sets but I've heard Spines/DA benefits greatly from them. I've got one somewhere in the low 30's atm and figured now is a good as time as any to dust him off.

I'm sitting at just under a billion inluence so I can spend a bit. I'm not looking for the best (most expensive) build ever, but just something middle of the road for a Spines/DA that takes advantage of set bonuses enough to make a noticeable difference and won't cripple my bank.

I've posted my old build below, right now its just frakenslotted to save a slot here and there. Wasn't really sure what to do with CoF, was hoping to get a decent to-hit debuff going from it. Also still have his 47 and 49 power slots open. Haven't decided what to take there, I figured I mine as well take Soul Transfer at 49, not sure what for 47.

Then make your slot and set choices based on a goal of more positional defense, or more regen, or more damage output, etc. You will find that you can move your slots around and gain a lot more from your sets.

Another thing, I think your goal of 120 mill for everything is a little low. The market prices have shot sky high in recent times so while a <1 Bill build is VERY possible i dont think a <400 mill is build very feasible. Take the advice of the others and stack some influence to get ready your build.

Hey thanks for the advice. And ya I wasn't really going for any crazy bonuses, I just wanted basically to get the same or slightly better than SO slotting with IO's and maybe an extra effect and save a slot here and there (for cheap). This was to basically give me a decent IO base to build off for once I'm able to get a little more influence. I def didn't envision it as my final IO build if thats what you meant.

Does that make more sense or am I way off, lol? Thanks again, I appreciate it.
  11. Ohh okay. So I do 10 alignment tip missions and then a morality mission will drop which gives a Hero/Villian Merit upon completion? And then once I get enough Merits I can trade them in for IO's? Sounds good. I'll have to check that out in game for sure.

Any comments for my IO Build keeping my goals in mind? Thanks again!
  12. Ya for sure, I've kept up on the majority of the changes and I did pick up Going Rogue so I'm good there. I've read a little about merits and heard about them, seems you get them mostly for doing story arcs or tfs, that sorta thing?

And ya, the basic build is alright I think so I'm glad you agree. Anyone else have any suggestions? Does the IO stuff I posted work for the goals I had in mind? Thanks again for any help you all can give.
  13. Hey all, haven't posted much on the forums before. Mostly just lurked around reading and learning what I could till now. Left the game around when AE first came out (been here since issue 1 or 2) and never really gave IO's a whirl so I'm looking for a bit of advice upon my return for my first IO Build.

I read a few guides to get a basic idea but theres a lot of different options so I was hoping I could get a little help. The build is for my Ice/Dark Tanker (just hit lv 30). This is what I've got so far. It's basically just frakenslotted because I wasn't going for anything in particular, just a decent base to build off that could save me a couple slots here and there and have a little bonus. Another thing that was important was that it wasn't too expensive. Right now I'm hovering at only about 120 million I think (which has to cover a few different characters I'd like to give IO builds) so nothing to crazy. Anyway, heres what I have so far:

Like I said, first attempt at this so go easy on me. If anyone wouldn't mind giving me a hand to see what I did wrong or right, and how to fix it, I'd really appreciate it. Just try to keep in mind the budget I mentioned. Thanks in advance!
