Quote:From http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/InfernalThinking it through with all the information I can find and knowledge of how characters often work... I think it's a bit of mistaken understanding... Llitu IS Infernal's mother, but not Primal Earth's Infernal.
"A master of demon binding and summoning from another dimension..."
"During Defeat Infernal:
Before combat: As I suspected, the inscriptions match. She was here, all those lost ages ago. Mother..."
"During Defeat and Capture Lilitu:
Before combat: Lilitu! Mother! I'm coming for you!"
I'd say that's pretty conclusive. -
Quote:Right, I'm not saying the timeline needs to be expanded, it's fine. What I meant is that I imagine people who want lore aren't going to want a timeline, they'll want a biography, so the link to said biography should be more prominent. Or you could, as you said, provide a small sentence or two of concise bio, then link to the full one.See the reason why I left a lot of the info surrounding the events out is because more or less the only thing Statesman does is hit people. He's not the one finding the cure, racing around, or doing the really heroic stuff... He's hitting people. So when it says He thwarted a foe with the help of x... it means X did all the leg work for whatever and Stateman hit the foe...more or less. And we're talking about what Statesman did, not what Freedom Phalanx or Nemesis did... Also remember all that stuff will be linked to the other pages when it is all completely up...
tldr ver...
Statesman page = Helps thwart Nemesis with the Help of the Freedom Phalanx
Synapse page = Distributes antidote in the nick of time along with x, while the rest of the Phalanx takes down Nemesis
Freedom Phalanx = Synapse and x distribute the antidote in the nick of time, while Statesman, Sister Psyche, etc.. take down Nemesis.
So that the part that the person/group contributes is the part that is in their page, which just seems better to me. What say others?
Also i think there needs to be a small background above it, but not the info from Statesman's history as all that info is just prose form of what's in the timeline, and doesn't have all or as exact dates... So maybe the History section should be turned in to Biography section with a quick Bakground paragraph and then the timeline.
Also, about your multiverse page (refer to the thread you made in the Wiki forums): the way the second section is now, it is formatted with headings and sub headings, which I feel is used if you have things to put in the sub headings. Since it's only a way to help organize the cosmology, just use the "Cosmology" header, then do the rest with font size, bold, and indents. Then in the third section, where you put the universes we know, you could add a fourth column that tells us which of the types in the second section it falls under. -
I think I read the thread reasonably carefully enough that this hasn't been addressed fully:
Lilitu and Infernal throw an interesting wrench into things, in that he is from another dimension, and she is his mother, which implies that demons have a pan-dimensional realm or abilities. This was addressed a little bit earlier, but it gets fun when you consider the "meta" metaverse... i.e., the servers. It's one thing to think about a server's universe, with one Lilitu who is able to access many dimensions within it, but then you have to begin to consider: what if, even in one server-verse, there is an infinite amount of Lilitus? Could there be parallel metaverses within a server, each with their own pan-dimensional demon realm? Or is each server its own metaverse, with only one demon realm?
Say, bedtime already? Hmm... maybe that has something to do with this post... -
Quote:There's a section on books written in the CoX world. It is called "Books": http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Books1896 and that's according to the Timeline on the wiki already.
This is more about parsing data than it is new info.
What do you mean more prominent? If you are talking about on Primal Earth page, it's not supposed to be. Everyone is just as important as the next ^.^ and that list is going to be huge... Consider just about every name in the game will be on that list.
What do you mean written bio/background? Do you mean a prose style bio that's in the other one? There is more info in the timeline, maybe you mean a synopse of who the character is... doing a prose style write would be redundant.
On a Side note... a writings or tomes or something like that section is probably a good thing to add as well, but I have no idea what to call it.
As for what I meant about Statesman: on your page for Primal Marcus Cole, there's a section called"History". Right below its title is a link to the regular article on Statesman's Background section. That's what ought to be more prominent.
Reasoning: people who are looking for lore will surely be interested in what he did (the timeline) but are also going to want to know why he did it, or what sorts of things led to it, and general things that go deeper. The link is relatively easy to pass over, and it's really what I think people who are going to be looking at this project will be looking for. Since the idea here is to make lore streamlined and easy to find, making that link more prominent is a good idea.
Maybe a section called "background" that just says "See this page: <link>"? Or a little note that says "For a more detailed background, go here: <link>"? -
Quote:I don't have as much time as I'd like, so I just checked out the two you linked. They look great so far!so some pages are up and info is being put up...so now i need feed back on these... as they are more or less templates...
Primal Earth Page: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/User:Dur...e/Primal_Earth
Primal Earth Marcus Cole Page: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/User:Dur...th_Marcus_Cole
Also... please take a look at the multiverse, races, and technology pages and tell me what you think...
And last... any idea on the powers and archetype sections... The powers section should probably have info on Origins of powers and a list of the basic powers and how they manifest...
One thing: make the link to Statesman's article more prominent. I like the layout and the timeline, but without making it clear that there is a written bio/background, it looks lacking.
Also, his birthday wasn't in 1986 (although, with time traveling whosawhatsits, you never know). -
Although I think the SJ animation is for video purposes, would anyone really want their character stutter jumping like they were under a strobe light all the time?
-
Quote:Although the OP's example was also not of the 5/7/5 mode... besides, according to Wikipedia, it's not always 5/7/5 syllables, but 5/7/5 Japanese sound units, which may or may not be the same as syllables.Haiku's are 3 lines: 5 syllables, 7 syllables, and then 5 syllables. That is 4 syllables, 6 syllables, and 3 syllables.

Quote:Did anyone else notice the Dominatrix statue at around 2:51? (Don't laugh at me, it took me a good five times to notice.) Unless the statue's a placemarker (bronze statue placemarker?), it would appear that she looks identical to her current in-game model. I'm hoping that this isn't the case, but I can't help but be a little worried.Quote:I like Domi's current look - easily my favourite of the Praetorians - so I'm happy if it doesn't change. Here's hoping they utilise the new whip animations from Demon Summoning to give her some cool new attacks though.
Quote:-Wow, did he just go on a 30 second tangent about lumberjacks?
Also, about that "custom jump:" I think it's just an effect they added for nifty visual things in the video, not an actual customization. I'll be happy if that's not the case, but for now, I'm just going to assume it is. -
Quote:That might be a bad idea. From the Going Rogue FAQ: "The Complete Collection Item Pack is included as part of the City of Heroes Going Rogue: Complete Collection."Are there different bonuses going through NCsoft directly?
I'm all about supporting the game, but I'm not going to turn down free goodies if the price is the same.
Edit: I just checked out the Complete Edition set on Amazon and I can see that there are. Sounds like the best option would be to purchase from Gamestop and add the bonuses for 6.99 each. Then I get all the awesome goodies
I don't suppose anyone has information on the Shadowy Presence invisibility power?
I take this to mean that the Gamestop Complete Collection also has the item pack, in addition to its special bonuses. If you bought both and the item pack, you wouldn't be able to use a code, or would have wasted $7.00. -

In other news, I keep hearing about this "revamped" "new player experience." I know that 1-20 in Praetoria will be different, but how will it affect the CoH and CoV tutorials -
This is a pretty good idea, but I think the current Paragon Wiki is pretty well set up for it. Perhaps adding a section on the front page, like the one you suggest, that would link to existing articles would work. Naturally, the articles, which already have lore sections (many pages have a "Background" section) could be expanded.
Also, in your example, searching the wiki for "Rikti" * gets you a page with their official info copied from the CoH site, then a list of their villains, then a section of spoilers. The link from the new main page portal could link to specific sections of this article, as appropriate, rather than making you search through it or its table of contents, which sounds like what you want. In fact, you could have a "lore" section of the front page that ended up linking specifically to the aforementioned "background" sections.
You could even incorporate the already present categories system: have the front page link to important categories like "Companies" or "Scientists." Some categories might have to be added, but using what's there already would make things easier. I think links to the category pages would be fine (example: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Category:Companies) but you could also have the wiki's hidden boxes on the main page that open up to links to an several articles' background sections.
*edit: typing "rikti" then pressing "enter" gets you to the Rikti page. Clicking the search button gets you all kinds of stuff... but who does that these days? <.< >.> I mean, why click, when you're already typing, right? -

Black Pebble did say that there are no plans for more pre order programs in his post in the announcement thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...53#post2903453
-
Quote:Everyone who gets the complete collection gets the free month, including gamestop pre orders...For Pete's sake, what ever happened to the exclusivity in exclusive promotions.
If you pre-purchased GR; you were granted exclusive early access to 2 powersets
If you pre-ordered; you get exclusive enhancements (which, honestly, are no big deal when you actually read up on them)
If you wait until release; you get an exclusive free months playing time.
I fail to see any doom, slights or slaps beyond (possibly) the lack of information on how EU players are affected. -
Quote:I know, it was more of a tongue in cheek comment. That has nothing to do with the decision to offer exclusive goodies, nor the decision of which store gets what goodies. Marketing says "Gamestop gets goodies." Developers say "okay, what are we doing for them?" Marketing and developers hash out possibilities, with marketing having the final say. Marketing decides to tack on another goodie in the form of a physical item (in this case, a mouse pad).
In only somewhat related news, did anyone else lol as hard as I did at the mouse pad wording? It's a "desktop skin" and a "high performance, repositional surface". No, guys, it's a mouse pad. Mmmooouuussseee pppaaaddd.
And I did indeed think the description of the mousepad was weird. "Desktop skin" made me think it was a wallpaper for my computer's desktop. -
Quote:This would be nice to know.In order for the consumers to make an informed decision, is this the ONLY pre-order exclusive you guys are going to have or can we expect more to pop up as we get closer to the release date?
(Yeah, I know, they should have mentioned this before the prepurchase phase, so "informed decision" is already a bit dinged up, but that horse has already escaped the barn.)
Quote:Please at least point your nerdrage in the right direction. I highly doubt the developers had anything to do with allowing exclusive rewards, nor were allowed to decide which brick-and-mortar store got what special goodie.
And since a regular Razor Sphex mouse pad (why do they call it a "desktop skin"?) is $20, and you're getting special enhancements, you're getting even more for your money! Especially if you consider that the complete collection includes CoH and CoV, which you'd have to buy for their own prices alone. -
Quote:The evil version was a clone, created by Protean, the first in a series of clones that he planned to unleash in an invasion on behalf of Praetoria.Well we sort of can expect one of the doubles to come from Preatorean earth. However if that was the evil version or the good version, your guess is as good as mine.
Don't think that is said clearly.
We can assume that it comes from Preatoria with the theory that we thus have no alternate presence in Preatorea and that will be the planet that we must defend later on.
Or that it is another dimension that the good double came from. However we then kinda got to get the info so we can do what our late alternate self hinted at: That we got now two worlds to protect.
Why the clones have to come through a portal rather than hopping out of cloning bay vats in the lab is a good question, though... Maybe he sent them to Praetoria first? And the evil double was there first as well, prompting your Praetorian double to find out who was giving him/her a bad name... which of course leads to the question: was your double resistance or loyalist? And which side is Protean working for?
Speaking of Protean, how do the hero and villain I17 arcs work together? -
Quote:Almost at 5 years myself (unless you don't count time off due to RL and money, but who does?). Just in case: @The Holy Flamehey I wouldn't care if i was the 9th or the 900th Happy B'day .. I'd start rattling off found memories of my own but it's your moment so .. :-D Gratz and hope the next five are just as much fun.
Quite an impressive track record, there... of the things I want to hear more about, I think the way you earned Bug Hunter twice is what I'm most curious about: how'd you do it? -
-
That's the impression that I got from the various arcs - you're too much for his project,he'll use someone else... the only problem is that the arcs generally end with him saying "ok, you're the big bad, go wreak havoc!" and then you go on to... keep playing the game, instead of becoming a world wide terror. Oh well.

Quote:Well, Leonard doesn't have a cloning lab. Protean posing as him working with the fifth column has a cloning lab. Both his similarity of name, as well as the fact that the Mysterious Writer's letter appears in his arc... and that he mysteriously has a clone factory? There are a bunch of unanswered questions about him and Thomas Mane, as far as I'm concerned.
I'd say Mane Corp and its story are pretty cut and dried. Couple of guys and a body guard start a tech company, it's overshadowed by Crey et al., they have a surplus of funds that Protean takes, enter the story arc.
Furthermore, Protean's working with the Praetorians, and the I17 arcs seem to have more to do with GR than anything else, and I think it's fairly evident that the Coming Storm is from our own dimension, not the Praetorian world.
Cimerora's letter, for me anyways, was indeed like Nightblade said: "hey, you're time traveling, here's a letter."
The invasion could be Shiva, but the wiki description seems to indicate that Shiva itself was destroyed, and the Bloody Bay meteors are remnants. Perhaps a stronger force of life sucking aliens was able to harness the other remnants, along with, eventually, Kheldians?
Whatever it is, it's my opinion that the division between Rikti and humans caused the invasion/Storm to be successful - and since Nemesis caused the Rikti wars, he feels responsible. And without a world to command, he was forced to prevent the invasion from being successful, in order to rule it through all time. Of course, I prefer to believe he's reformed, and actually feels bad that he helped cause the destruction of the world, but that's just me.
Dr. Aeon certainly seems to be reformed, as Professor Echo clearly wants to stop the world from being destroyed. But that seems to have more to do with Aeon's use of a demon as the heart of the PTS than anything else. Then again, he does mention Shivans with control implants, and cloning armies of them, so there is a connection there...
A note on Leonard: I also noticed his gloves changing color. Glad I wasn't going crazy. I'm sure it's significant, but how? If they were one color at first, then changed when you freed the real Leonard, that would make sense... but I think they start black, don't they? -
Quote:To be honest, at this point it might as well. Posts I read constantly get re-flagged as unread, to the point where I'll read a thread, check out another forum, be back in five minutes and it will light up as unread with no new posts in it. I've basically stopped looking at what's being marked as read and what isn't. I'm just looking at post times and dates, and I work off the latest post I can remember off the thread.
Eh, but I try not to complain about it TOO much
I have a similar issue, posted about it here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=221453
Logging out after I was done fixed the problem. As I mentioned in the thread there, the annoyance of typing a username and passwords is MUCH less than the annoyance of filtering what is actually read or unread.
Anyways, I'm just going to voice my support here for body mounted blasting devices, Black Blood of the Earth as an addition in some way.
Also, Praetorian ATs would be cool. Not sure how they'd fit conceptually, but there it is.
I would also have to say that I can make a PPD/LB character just fine with existing sets and costumes. Sure, it might be nice to have my character be an "official" member of the PPD, but I would argue that making an arc that awards a "PPD Member" badge (maybe make it a hero aligned arc, something that only people who don't go rogue can do) and adding other, more unique EATs would be better. -
Quote:That's true. And your earlier point about each character being THE characters is also true... but years should still be updated in things like the newspaper missions. As the OP said, it's weird to find an obit for someone who died five years ago in today's paper.I agree up to a point. I believe low-level content needs a "re-write" in the sense of technical upgrades. Mission structure, mission objectives, mission locations, briefing quality (both in terms of narrative and proofreading) are all badly lacking and in need of some TLC. I don't believe low-level content needs a "re-write" in the sense of changing or updating the storyline. The actual stories are great as they are, and I'd be really sad to see them go. The stories are good. They're just delivered poorly.
I'm also not sure how to deal with the odd concept of doing, say, the RWZ arcs, which take place during/after the second Rikti invasion, and then doing a higher level Rikti arc, which happens to take place before the second invasion. The only good way to deal with that is suspend your disbelief and use Decorum's hand wave strategy (which I'm perfectly content with doing, since experiencing the story is more important to me than making sure it fits really well together, but others might have issues with it). -
Sorry for the mini necro, for some reason I'd forgotten about this post...
Anyways, thanks for posting this!
I laughed: "I'm sure Dual Pistols is a more than adequate set for anyone who plays the game outside of spreadsheets." Back Alley Brawler
"This needs a screenshot - when BAB first showed up, he appeared in the form of a burning bush, and spoke to us from on high" <-- Now that's awesome -
Quote:I was going to say this exact thing. Maybe in the past, we couldn't do change properly - I mean, they just went through and replaced "5th Column" with "Council" everywhere it was mentioned. Now, they could do something like this, with actual new content for a new group, and keep the old stuff in Ouroboros or a similar place.Gotta disagree on certain points there, such as the arc where you 'Prevent the Second Rikti War'.
....Uh...Stop Check please!
Instead of having Ourobourus as JUST a flashback system, why not make the crystal have all the 'alternate timestreams' e.g. the stuff that got taken out. Calvin Scott TF, the arc mentioned above, stuff like that.
Or, better yet, add them to a City/University 'Archive' System. Just use one of the empty buildings in the University campuses, and add a smaller version of an AE portal, along with some terminals.
Heck, we could even get other, non US based content, like the Paragon Universe WW2 D-Day, Brass Monday, stuff like that.
And, hey, it'd still be new content that people keep clamouring for (myself included now, actaully. Although not as much as I would rather they revamp the rusting dross that there is out there...)
At the very least, any mention of a year in a mission's text ought to be changed. It is clearly 2010 in the game right now; I mean, they've opened the Omega Team time capsule, which was only supposed to happen 7 (6?) years after they didn't return. What gigas said about the weird game timeline vs. level timeline is absolutely correct; a level 20 villain would be in about 2008 by level up time logic - but would be able to fight a Vigilante Ajax, who is only present in 2010.
Of course, we can't go changing too much stuff around, as new players do need to experience the game story line, and not be thrown into a world where various plot points are taken for granted. The stuff that's took place before the game is fairly well-referenced, enough so that we can figure out what happened. Removing old content in favor of new stuff would force the new stuff to reference the old game content in the same way. And since so many higher level contacts build on what you've done at the low levels, that might be too hard to pull off.
What I've heard about GR leads me to believe that the 1-20 content will be changed in CoH/V a little bit as well, so maybe that will involve some story reworking. Who knows? (Just the vibe I get from various info on it, no proof whatsoever).
Anyways, I'm all for a few minor "revamps" a lá the Rikti to villain groups- new costumes, maybe a few new types/powers, and certainly some more stories involving them.
