There isn't a single guide fresher than I8. What gives? :/
[/ QUOTE ]Seconded! Considering the huge changes Stalkers have gone through, almost every guide in this thread is nearly obsolete. -
Hmmmmm... Dual-build may indeed be interesting (Time for that terribly frivolous build that has Group Flight+Team Teleport).
Also, I see this being a huge benefit for Stalkers, who not only have vastly different PvP and PvE builds, but also how much the Stalker builds differ weather favoring group or solo play. -
I just got the cyborg pack pretty much for one character (Raw Material), and am trying to fit in why my characters are able to dramatically [b]KABOOM[/i] once per hour...
for my Willworlders, it's pretty easy:
"Travel between the Material world and the Willworld is extremely dangerous and can unleash some amazingly destructive power, but it's also not easy, and it's not uncommon for the traveler to become stuck there, separated from their compatriots for quite some time..."
Any other non-tech Self-Destruct ideas? -
I've got two silent characters, one is a psychic, and one is just a housecat. I use a bind key for each with the /beginchat function to add an emote to the beginning of each of their chat items. Using the bind key instead of Enter lets you type your message in ght format you want.
For the psychic, I have a bind for /beginchat "/e mentally intones: "
Which comes out as:
Baduro mentally intones: (conversation)
For the cat, I have the bind: /beginchat "/e thinks that "
Which comes out as:
a cat thinks that (conversation)
((Yes, I was able to get the name "a cat")) -
First Feign has an herbalist friend who occasionally teleports packets to him as they're finished.
The rest of the Feigns (and Shekinah) are able to manipulate reality, and simply find certain moments and places to be particularly malleable.
Rhiannah, Baduro and Nephanim all do Dyne on occasion.
a cat is occasionally just inspired by the though of her next meal.
Praetorian Grey gets sporadic support directly from Ouroboros. -
Hmm, The dayjob thing sounds interesting, though I have a feeling it will stop counting time on a particular logoff after a set period, maybe ten hours, so an inactive alt can't be a neurosurgeon at level one just by being forgotten. (similar to how the inns work in WoW).
Interestingly enough, I find many of my toons do have particular locations they call home... The Feigns go to the Midnighter's library to log out, Shekinah and Praetorian Grey go to Ouroboros, Rhiannah and Baduro go to the Pocket D... It all works out pretty well.
Shields have always been a little meh for me, though it will be interesting how they will stop them from working with Dual Blades.
I'm already rocking the base editor even using the archaic ritual that is Magic Desks. (Though it feels like making stuff out of spare parts in a cave.) So I will be VERY happy to get a base upgrade. And the mission editor should also be a gigantic timesink of fun and happiness. (No matter basic the system is starting out, I will make the Willworld arcs EPIC... using spare parts in a cave.) -
No one can be told what Ouroboros is. You have to see it for yourself.

I'll give you a paraphrased one:
Don't roll /Elec.
[/ QUOTE ]I think we pretty much have figured that out with logics that Defence sets are better than Resist sets before even coming here. But a good Stalker-centric Elec Melee guide is badly needed. -
Oh wow... I'm literally dizzy with happy excitement.
Well, that and I just woke up... -
Okay, to make things even more complicated, there is a lot of experimenting that one can do if one is feeling especially balsy with their design. I've found that a magic room for making magic doors can be made in any location that has three or more doors attached to it, or is attached to a room with three or more doors attached to it.
For an example: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../WWEBase03.jpg
This was made using only the 8x8 plot, it is a one-player base and is completely stable. To note, I made the room layout before placing any items, to reduce the possibility for corruption.
In this case, I used an additional 1x2 workshop in the lower left corner and rotated the 2x2 medical room in order to force an impossible door placement on the workshop. This made the 2x2 room the "magic room" that allowed all of the double door placement throughout the base. to end the double door placing, I removed an item and placed a valid door to the workshop before deleting it.
I'm almost entirely certain that if you remove a room that has an impossible door placement without first giving a valid pathing, it has a high likelyhood of corrupting the base. (I lost a few Test bases before figuring some things out for the Live base.) -
... I have a hot date today... Didn't realize it was April 1 until this thread.
o_o I now have a sense of anticipation and dread at the same time... -
I should point out that on further inspection, I'm not really mad or whining...
It's just that I've been running this insane-o-tron for the past three months trying to get the devs crazy enough to make Illusion dominators and Kineticist masterminds...
I guess I'm just dissapointed that it hasn't worked... And a little worried about who has actually been hit by the insane-o-tron if it missed... >_> -
[ QUOTE ]
I would be remiss if I didnt discuss Dominators. They get access to Earth control, which of course keeps them grounded for their new access to Electricity Manipulation as well. All the villain electrical effects are of course tinted in the evil red that City of Villain players have come to be familiar with.

But... but... Illusion!

I AM GOING TO EAT BRAINS NOW! -
I can see the use of TP Foe on a Stalker, though it is marginal at best when compared to the utility of Recall Ally.
"Man, I wish I could stealth the mission like you do."
*VA-WHOOP!* "You were saying?"
Or,
"I wish I didn't have to lug all this Granite into the mob."
*VA-WHOOP* "It's okay, I'll carry you."
EDIT: By the way, Recall Ally does not break Hide. -
Started playing an EM/DA brute back in Beta, thinking that the EM stuns would be a great compliment to OG...
Switched to DM/EA at Live and never looked back. Never have I found an anti-guide that I agreed with as much as this one. Though I'm playing a DB/DA off-and-on as a concept character (looks great, plays horribly). -

Blizzard pushes out at least as much free content for WoW as we get here in CoX. Over and above the paid expansions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks. I wouldn't know, since I'd rather eat fried locusts than play it.
[/ QUOTE ]Hey now... Fried locusts aren't that bad.
[ QUOTE ]
That's a daft attitude. Try this:
'Dear people who are willing to pay money for stuff we don't personally want,
Thankyou for giving your money to the Devs so they can hire people to make stuff we DO personally want.
Love, Everyone Else.'
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm also crazy enough to donate money to webcomic artists without any expectation of a reward at all. Generosity in my free market economy? More likely than you'd think. -

This is the perfect sonic/kin to not have on your team.

I wouldn't go that far, though there are several things that raise red flags. This is a very unorthodox build, not gimped, but definitely sub-par. Perhaps with IOs it could get interesting, but as it is, ick. -

HOLY SHIGOJEZAWHATHA SLO OGASNARGO'THA!
HUMAN WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE!!!
... Oh gott I'm so happy I could pass out -
Actually another one to add that seems to come up rather often and annoys the hell outta me when people repeat it.
Myth #9: A Stealthed Tanker Can't Hold Aggro.
There was a time before Gauntlet and Stealth Supression were added when the tanker could not tank while invisible. Apparently it was a good way to grief a team to toss Grant Invis on the tank in the middle of a giant pull (pre I3 here, so giant is appropriate) and break his aggro just as he pulled the mob to the team for fun and profit. The fear of granted stealth has become a common-sense instinct to the elder tankers and fear of its griefing possibilities have been passed down through the old storytelling tradition. now new tanks are indoctrinated in the belief that becoming transparent makes them suck, and nowdays that's just false.
I've only seen people complain about this a few times with my invuln tank, but with my illusion controller, I invariably get complaints if my Group Invis hits the tank. -
[ QUOTE ]
Group Invis- Early on I took this power but respeced out of it later. PBAoE team stealth, adds defense to the team. Good on paper, but I didn't see anything good about it. Its on a timer and wears off eventually, it can make the tank invisible who cant hold aggro now. The wearing off seems to always happen at the most inopportune time and the recharge is so slow that its ridiculous. If you must take it, then slot it for defense and recharge I would say.
[/ QUOTE ]Emphasis mine because this is a false assumption that everyone passes around as fact. Group Invis and Grant Invis have not had negative impact on Tanker aggro since Stealth Supression was added.
Please test it before perpetuating the same false rumor. -

You forgot
<ul type="square">[*]Some poeple don't have time, will, or desire to do TFs/SFs[/list]
[/ QUOTE ]Sorry, that arguement wins no points. Want the rewards for completing a difficult task? Guess what. You have to complete the task. Seriously, the arguement here is for the people who want to do arcs for the reward but can't not for the ones who just don't want to do the arcs.
There are several accolades tied to taskforces, but anyone whining that they can't get those because they don't like teams get a sad song on an invisible violin. -
Well, with Issue 8 Mental Blast suddenly became MUCH more attractive, I haven't done any really heavy testing with it, but it feels like about twice the activation of Psi Dart now (which seems to mesh with other reports on it). Anyway, I'm working a Damage Only Psy concept, which skipped Mass Hypnosis, Confuse, and Telekinesis (Three counts of HERESY! I know...
)
I've noticed that without running any of those fancy tricks and focusing purely on DPS, I can't seem to run out of endurance in the amount of time it takes to build to full Domination. Now that I have a few vet respecs, I'm going to copy my Dom to test and try out a whole slew of other builds to see if I find anything better, but currently, my Damage Only concept is quite enjoyable. -
There should be a much more relevant way of ranking these powers than the opinion of one person who has played some of them and read the descriptions of the rest...
I agree that this guide is plenty useful, though the wording of some of the descriptions and especially the rankings themselves was pretty much destined to send some into an uncontrollable fury. (has the term "Forum Brute" been coined yet?)
While this was a good start, I reccomend a different method of data gathering before launching the next version...
-Hold a vote, something in each archetype forum to get the ratings as they pertain to each archetype.
-Make it a group project, get several people together to test out each of the powers for team synergy. With the vet respecs and a couple copies to the Test server, this should be much easier than in the past.
-Use more concrete numbers, I think most will agree that Maneuvers getting a 6 because "it is still always nice to have extra defense, especially for squishies." is evidenece that the numbers have not been considered. -
Well, I have an Ill/Kin at 23 (and rocketing forward thanks to SOs) and have some hints:
A) Not a solo build! Even after Phantom Army on SOs, I still struggle without a team... With a team, things get much better. With another kineticist (or Illusionist, for that matter), the team gets that much better again.
B) Siphon Speed is a control in disguise, honest to gods! The -atk speed you deal to enemies with Siphon Speed is powerful, and the time that wild mob is snailing your way because youmade him slow is time you can cast two more buffs before holding him.
C) Also, Siphon Speed and Hasten are a combination to be reckoned with, Especially with SOs. Between the two you can easily have PA and Flash up for every fight. with recharge SOs and Hasten up, Siphon Speed can get reliably double-stacked for maximum Spectral machinegunning. (Note: Siphon Speed does not alter End recharge, just attack rate, be careful.)
D) Speaking of Flash, it is a great tool in the low levels when your tank is sweating a little more than Transfusion can remedy. It's possibly the earliest 'Oh sh*t' button you can find. Most builds hate Flash, but the Ill/Kin can turn it into a divine intervention in truly bad situations. I five slot it with three accuracies and two recharges...
My build isn't quite the same as the OP's, but that's really a matter of playstyle, I took Teleport for a travel power, for instance rather than fitness, and yes, I have to invest heavily in End Reduction enhancements as a result, not a biggie. (Group invis+teleport makes for very easy PvP as a squishy.)
