  1. Always check the Announcements. :P

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat....=0#Post13662111

Edit: Just happy to see so many helpful folks jump to lend a hand.
  2. I have to agree that Defenders could use a little boost in the damage department. And i have an idea.

Why not just add a bit to Vigilance? I never REALLY liked it as is anyhow. You only gain benefits when your team is dying? Booo!!

How about adding a reverse mechanic? When your team is low on health you get an endurance discount. When your team is full you get a small damage boost. Have it scale from one to the other as your team heads into the red.

That would totally rock in my opinion.

Edit: As an alternative, if you think Defenders don't need more damage, but still think Vigilance needs a buff, it could boost secondary effects of your powers instead of damage. That would rock as well.
  3. If you pick the Magic origin ALL power sets combos have thematic synergy! :P
  4. <QR>

I seriously cannot think of a single Super hero who only has a single set. And i have seen a few comics in my day.

Also, in reference to some previously mentioned mutants:

Every X-man has both the fighting and fitness pool.
Cyclops has a VERY boosted version of leadership. Probably powerful enough to make up for a whole 9 power set.
Nightcrawler is something like a Swords/Teleportation scrapper.
Jubilee would probably end up with a Light-show/explosives type combo, as she used that little tiny power she had in MANY different ways.

    ALSO!

Willpower does fit into just about every super hero from the comics. They all have that on top of everything else.
And nine out of ten also get a devices pool of some sort.

The only characters from comics i can see having a single powerset are the off panel characters. As soon as they get some panel time they start picking up more and more stuff.

Elixir (Or whatever the name was) from the X-men is a good example. Off panel he is nothing more than a healer. Put him in the lead role and he picks up Willpower, devices, some sort of inverse healing thingy that harms people, and a few others.

Villains seem to hold fewer sets. Mainly because they lose. :P So they don't get willpower. Sticking with the X-men, Avalanche seemed very one dimensional from the powers perspective. Closest thing would be a earth control/nothing controller i guess.

    Report all Farms

    <QR>

I saw a few posts saying things like "Legit players" and "as intended", and it really bugs me...

Maybe if such a large percentage of the games population is doing one thing, we (Devs included) should just accept that and thank heavens people are still willing to pay to play this five year old game?

It just bugs me to bits. Seeing someone come down so hard on farmers. "They ruin the game." "They aren't playing the game as intended." etc. If it was a few people in some dark corner of the game, that is one thing. But when you look into the Atlas AE building and it is FULL TO THE BRIM with people... Maybe you should just let them play, man... Before you chase them all off to some other MMO that isn't so anti-farming.

I dunno. There are just SOOO many farmers... I would think they make up a large enough percentage of the population to just let them play unmolested.... They have to at least equal the number of RPers. And those clowns have their own forum.

    A Grand Idea!

A few random answers to keep you going:

The character i REALLY want is an EAT/VEAT.
Sick of levels 1-22 after playing them a million times.
Sick of levels 1-20 because the game is too slow without stamina.
    I won't be having fun until i have <Insert cool power>.
I have been playing for a hundred thousand years and am sick of normal content.
I am not into all of your lame reading and RPing and "content" junk, and just want to level and pull up Mids and make numbers dance.
I want this character for PvP only.
I am very well established on <insert server name>, and would like to quickly expand to <Insert second server name> as well.

    And finally:

What the heck do you care what i do? Mind your business! :P
  7. Earlier tonight i was playing along side a shielder as my earth/sonic/earth controller. He pops on both Grant Cover AND Maneuvers, and asks, "Check your defense for me." If i recall right i was sitting at 20% or so to all but Psi. I turn on my APP shield and my smash/lethal is up to 42% or so.

I tanked the next group of Warwolves without controls. :P

Also, the -recharge in it is worth so much just by itself. I HATE when i get hit with -recharge.

    every MMO is about grinding.
the trick to if its fun or not is sugar coating.
if the grind is sugar coated just right, you dont really notice you are grinding.
the secret to a good MMO is making your grind with just the right amount of sugar coating.
when i first started COX the game was just so much fun and so neat to play i had a sweet time playing and never really noticed the grind at all.
but now that ive played COX for many years ive gotten used to the sugar flavor and the im very aware of the repetitive grind of this game.
i can only play COX in small doses these days, like an hour or two a day and I am constantly switching which characters I play to try to keep variety. Ill do one mission with one character, then switch to another character and do a different level/zone mission.

the problem with COH is that its all about your super powers and nothing really else. and you only get super powers through grinding levels.
there is the grind to 20 until you get stamina and your travel powers set up. i hate this grind, not having stamina is horrible.
then there is the 20-32 grind until you get your lvl 32 power. (this grind takes so long you can prob divide up into two grinds by the time you get to lvl 32 its like OMG finally)
then there is the 32-38 grind when you get your highest secondary power. the level 30's are some of the longest grinds in the game.
then there very very long grind to lvl 50.
so i find the grind is more apparent because I always have some set goal/level that I want to reach that keeps my mind on the XP bar all the time like watching a pot waiting for the water to boil.

This is an interesting post, and it brings up something that I was thinking about. From your post, the entire game feels like a grind, and you admit that you've become accustomed to the taste of sugar. From everything you've posted, it sounds like you're finally tired of the game and burned out as you see the entire game as a grind.

Why do you play it that way then? I'm really interested in someone actually sitting back, asking themselves "why am I still playing?", and honestly answer that question.

I'll answer it for myself, as I've reached the point several times in several games where I felt it was all a grind. I was doing it out of habit. At some point almost every day, I'd log onto the game to have fun and socialize. At one traumatic period in my life when I became widowed, I logged in because the repetitive nature of grinding occupied my mind for a few hours and let me forget my grief. Those sessions turned into habits. It was something I was used to doing. When I did decide that I wasn't actually having fun anymore, and was instead just killing time, I still logged on and grinded because I didn't know what else to fill my time with. I'm curious why other people who are exhibiting burnout and are obviously tired of the game still play. For the same reason as me? (out of habit). Or for some other reason?

Is there any intention to resolve that? Obviously, continuing to play and grind isn't going to make the game gradually more fun again, so what are your long-term plans? Play until even getting quick 50's or purples isn't fun anymore and then quit? Take a break and come back?

Like I said, I'm curious as to why someone who finally admits that they've lost enjoyment of the game and just grind through it... still play. I'm not being negative or condescending when I say this, as I've done it too, and still do it at times. I just think it makes for an interesting discussion that has the potential of changing perceptions and possibly even restoring fun again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I got two reasons for you. Yours was good. Habit.

But the second is the REAL clincher. Friends. I got friends in CoX. Long time friends now. I log on to hang with them mostly. If they aren't on i might just log off. If i do stay on... i might solo a few missions with one of my 50s before grumbling and logging off.

Oh. And to me all of CoX is a grind now. I have been here a long while. I don't even read stuff anymore. I just blow through story arcs like they are paper/scanner missions. I have seen them all before.

AE changed that a little bit. Having made missions i am more respectful of the effort. So i tend to read a bit more. Darn near everything if i am in an AE mission.
  9. Sorry, going to take the chance to put a few ideas of my own regarding origins up.

I REALLY think we need some origin respecs, and multiple origin characters.

Honestly, think of some of your favorite comic book heroes and villains. Do THEY fall neatly into a single origin? Or do they grab at every available advantage to win the good/bad fight?

What would you list Dr. Doom as? Natural? He is a genius, and was able to do some wild things because of it. Tech? He did make that sweet armor. Magic? He can do that too...

Spider-man? Science, right? What about his web-shooters? Classically he made them himself. So that puts him up on Natural (For his genius) AND tech (For his gadget.)

Even the most basic, Thor. Naturally a god/magically enhanced.

Truth is single origin characters are far more uncommon than character who would claim multiple origins.

So gimme multiple origins already! :P
  10. Here is a little rule i try to follow. And it works okay. Maybe you folks should adopt it too. It seems like it will eventually help the community as a whole.

If i rate something 4-5 stars, no comment. It is good. No need for me to pick it apart. Unless i find something i NEED to comment on. If i play a whole arc, and enjoy it, but the last boss is an unannounced EB/AV i might comment on it.

3 stars or less and i want to leave a comment. Tell them why i liked it, and why i didn't. Make sure you leave the why you DID like it in there as well. Adding in good with bad makes it easier to stomach for the person being critisized, i have found. Also they know what they should not try to fix.

But also, include a small note saying something like "Make a few changes and get back to me so i can try it again and 5-star it!"

I dunno. It just seems to go down easier. Instead of some faceless player tearing into their arc, they get a friend who wants to see the arc improved to 5-star level.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems to work wonders. And i LOVE when i receive comments like this too. Gives me a nice comment to work from, AND hope of getting those extra stars down the way.

I liked the comic. Always funny to see cave missions on a building door or vice versa.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Gotta agree. That was my favorite comic in the Scoop yet! Way to go!
  12. Those were all pretty freakin' sweet. I'd trade the Thornn (Salem's Seven Thornn, not the X-men Thornn) sketch card i got for any of them. :P

    Boss Changes

Devs I know youre planing to roll back boss changes. But can you leave the AVs like they are now? They are tough as nails and require good well organized teams. They make fights feel epic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

agreed. The AVs should be tough as nails. i wouldn't mind a little more xp for em though

    [/ QUOTE ]

I dont mind some tough ol AVs, and i certainly think they should drop more exp. The one exception is infernal, he needs a little tweaking. I took my lvl 50 SR scrapper against him today, he one shotted me several time. It was very painful to watch. He didnt even con purple to me, he was red! Come on, a lvl 50 scrapper shouldnt get one shotted by a red AV should he? Then again, i think hes the only one that can reliably put me down with a single move, so maybe its ok.
