Personally I'm hoping we get IPB.
Though for some reason I have a feeling we might get VBulletin. -
Cognito sustained DPS is fine in PvP, it may not be quite so efficient as grabbing a quick kill but it's one hell of a way to keep an Empath or Thermal busy in a team fight or a good way to hinder your opponents use of something like Aid Self or to drain him of Respites and other Inspirations.
Are you thinking of Melee toons being more about straight DPS than burst damage? Because that's a whole other issue. I think that they should think about increasing Melee attacks on Melee AT's from 5" (current) to 10" (PvP Only, 5" for PvE still). Everything apart from Assassin's Strike. I think that this'd go a good way to helping Melee AT's deliver consistant damage either kiting themselves or being kited.
As for more -Jump? Why? Everyone can buy the webnade Temp and Slows are good for reducing jump height and speed. If they bring in -Jump powers I expect to see -Jump Resistance added to the game on things like Mez Protection and Combat Jumping etc... Then you'd need to throw in -RunSpd Res on to Super Speed. -
It might be better to give a straight net end reduction in PvP (20% say). Even with the pitiful choice of AoE Sets you'd be looking at good, workable numbers.
-
Depends on the power. I'd laugh at a Fire Blaster not taking Fire Ball to be honest for PvE and PvP.
Ranged AoE's are usable but require a little more work in the build to mitigate the longer recharge, higher end cost and lower accuracy. In todays day and age that's reasonably easy to do even with cheap IO's.
PBAoE's and Targetted AoE's, however, aren't that awesome. But they can't really fix that. -
Yeah, the Blaster changes and tweaking the Katana and MA times - all going in the right direction.
-
One of the things I like about this game is that you can see how other people have built their character. It gives you insight in to how it might play and ideas that you might not have thought of.
Adding to that in my opinion is a good thing. -
PvP is a lot more balanced in CoH when it comes to teams than some MMO's. 1v1, however, not so much. You've got specialised roles. A Blaster is there to do loads of damage so of course he's going to have an easier job of killing a Defender than the Defender will have of killing him.
In most cases. -
I wouldn't skip Assault, you can run it easily and it's not only a cheap 15% damage buff for you - but also for your pets.
For the Secondary in PvE I'd skip CT: Offensive and Wolf Spider Armor, and maybe Leadership but that's still nice - especially when fighting things like Nightwidow NPC's.
As for the Primary - I'd probably skip all the Arachnos Soldier powers (urk redraw). From Crab I'd probably grab Channelgun, Longfang, Aim, Suppression, Venom Grenade and Frag Grenade and of course Omega Maneuver. Slice and Arm Lash do good damage but it's Melee and I'd definitely ignore Frenzy. -

H-E-double hockey sticks NO!!! Bad enough you can see them, let alone seeing how powerful they are. Next thing you know it'll be "Sorry, you don't have X bonus at Y percentage, won't invite you."
[/ QUOTE ]
Why don't we not let people check builds at all then? -
Exactly. You can get grate %'s mixing and matching cheap sets, but you don't get the really good bonus' that way.
Being able to toggle them off means a 30 mil build isn't far off a 300mil build. -
The thing about disabling Set Bonus' is that in a lot of cases your IO slotting will still be superior to what you could do with SO's.
You'd still get higher numbers accross the board on multiple values (example acc/dam/rech/end %'s that you couldn't with SO's), you just wouldn't get the slot bonus'. IO's would still beat SO's, but the margin wouldn't be quite so noticable.
More to the point I think if the Red Names did organise an event, having something like disabling set bonus' would seriously bring in more people than it put off. -

Nah I pay my own subs. As for making arena more popular just have offical tournements and leagues with rewards, simple as that.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's not as simple as that - you need relative parity between players and builds for any sort of official tournament or league to actually attract new players.
Being able to disable set bonus' would go a long way towards that. -
[ QUOTE ]
Lie mode: Shenny is contributing loads to this discussion. Serious mode: i don't think having rewards for arena PvP would be good. Maybe badges when its balanced but other than that it should be fun enough to draw people in without extra incentives.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think a lot of the problem if you've got people with incredibly tweaked out IO builds and then you've got people with IO builds that aren't as focused, so there's a bit of a gap. Having an option to toggle off set bonus' might be something usefull. -

Because coming out with comments like that makes you much more mature and better than he is
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really - but hey, I can spell.
The best way to get new people in to PvP (in my opinion) would be to offer tangible rewards.
These can come in such as:
A) Chance for Common Recipe/Salvage per enemy player kill.
B) Chance for Recipe/Salvage for completing a PvPvE Objective:
<ul type="square">[*]Bloody Bay: Common Recipe/Salvage on top of Shivan Shard temp. [*]Sirens Call: Uncommon Recipe/Salvage on top of the SO or instead of one. [*]Warburg: Uncommon Recipe/Salvage for launching the Warburg rocket and/or for picking up an access code. [*]RV: Rare Recipe/Salvage for completing a zone objective like taking a pill box. [/list]
A) and B) aren't mutually exclusive, so you'd still get a chance for drops while actively PvP'ing even if you're not hitting zone objectives. Any drops would be the same as Mob drops so we're not tapping any TF or Trial pools and would be around the same chance of getting something as in PvE (maybe a bit higher, mind, for the PvPvE stuff). I think this would encourage some more people to PvP as well as adding more value to the PvPvE Objectives in the PvP Zones themselves.
As for getting more people in to Arena, that's trickier. You can't really offer loot for kills or winning a match because it'd be pretty damn easy to abuse that. -

I've canceled my subs till something big happens pvp wise to get me back. Sorry for my attitude but i'm a bit fed up with shannon thinking she knows all, yeah we all know you pwn with your empath who buffs with teleport
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sure we'll all miss your mature, intelligent posts. Bye now! -
I'd rather they add a Movement Slow Res to Hasten. Obviously not a huge amount, but say something akin to Quickness and definitely movement only, mind.

He has a point though, even if it was not conveyed in the appropriate manner.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't really see why. Shannon is actually right, RV was designed to be some bizarre PvPvE zone where the AV's are there to help you fight back against the other side winning the zone completely. Of course, this doesn't work in practice because it's A) dumb and B) no-one hugely bothers with pillboxes because it's more fun doing actual PvP. -

AWhoever was the genius that thought placing AV's in a PvP zone should be given a reward for having no clue about PvP objectives and design.
[/ QUOTE ]
Only read the OP's post, but isn't the reason they're there that they help when you play the RV game (What the zone was originally meant for) of capturing Pillboxes and trying to beat the other team?
[/ QUOTE ]
Zones are meant to have something to play for and when you win the zone AVs/Heroes come and help to turn the tide against your favour to balance things.
[/ QUOTE ]
dont talk pvp u never do it so get out of the topic please
[/ QUOTE ]
^ And it's attitudes likes this that can put people off trying it. -
It's incentive for people to try it that otherwise might not.
I don't like using it as an example because it's not the be all and end all of how to do it, but in WoW you get a lot of people on PvE servers that otherwise completely avoid PvP running Battle Grounds because it offers tangible reward as a result of PvP. Without that reward they'd happily just run around doing quests or instances without a hint of PvP. -
Please - anyone that sees a female character and immediately assumes that they are in fact female is being incredibly over optimistic.

you'll find tons more "controversial" material than Presto-Changeo-Man magically changing into a woman.

I very much doubt the American developers and market would think the same way, though.
It wouldn't be bad if they put this in, if they do it then hey, it's another thing to play with for some people. That's great. It's more likely that if we get anything new aside from costume pieces for character customisation, it'll be the ability to change Height at Icon/Face.
Personally though I'd rather concentrate on some solid content.

Being turned into the opposite sex is a staple of American cartoons usually the character ends up learning that girls aren't icky or boys aren't stupid.
the type of people who'd get offended and quit probably already did after they met their first lesbian cat girl any way so no big deal.

And considering the widespread, main stream appeal of video games do you honestly think that there wouldn't any drama at all?
A video game lends an interactive element to the subject matter which, personally, I think some (admittedly closed minded) people will find at odds to their own personal beliefs. You've just got to look at all the drama over violence and sex in videogames and almost nothing to the same level of furor when it comes to books or movies.
You mention cartoons, sure - but I doubt said cartoons go in to an indepth discussion over something like gender dysmorphia.
People are dumb, especially when it comes to videogames. I can't see this being implemented because of the existance of dumb people in the world. Personally I'm fine with it, I just think it highly unlikely.
People in this thread are seeing an opinion that doesn't match their own and are throwing up the prejudice card. I'm sorry, what? This is a discussion about the possibility on the games message board with an (arguably) reasonably tight knit and knowledgable community and look what state people are getting in to. Do you honestly think it'd fair better in the big wide world? -
