thats still a pretty relevent guide i'd say, the major changes you'll see are:
not worth slotting any one enhance over 3 slots
defence has been slashed
invincibility has had its tohit hacked
So, you'll have more slots to play with as all the Invulnrability powers dont need 6 slotting, freeing more up for other stuff
defence is cut so you'll have to slot invincibility with some defence and its probably worth taking tough hide to offset the unyielding -def
you'll need accuracy in your attacks to cover the invincibility tohit hacking.
you also require more people around you to hit your def cap with invincibility.
while i've played a dm/regen and an em/invul tank i never got my dm/inv scrapper past 12 it was really painful in comparison to the other two (i found), but i did find that Touch of Fear really is a cornerstone attack to cut down the incoming damage. -
i think the reference was when each punch taunts 5, its not always the same 5 you taunt so in a big group you could be taunting via punchvoke the whole group as you dont hit the same 5 every time you punch.
maybe -
i had a feeling they did still have a base level so if you fought them below that base level they'd be hard to hit however above that base level and they scale with you in damage dished and received.

(btw Infernal is one of the easiest AV to tank, not a good example)
[/ QUOTE ]
not at all, its one of the best examples as there is so much stuff flying about - yep fine take infernal by himself put him in a field and tank him till the cows come home. surround him with 50 demons chucking fire around and all of a sudden its a little tougher to tank him on 10hp.
but its fun having risk, personally i found pre ed and the defence nerfs i got increadibly bored with my tank, yep could tank a whole room safe and 'herd' but was very dull, much prefer the much higher risk play style of now, it requires more effort.
cant use the same advanced tanking techniques i used to, i had to learn new tricks, part of an evolving game world though. however unstoppable allows you to step back in time to prenerf and still kick butt.
but this is getting away from the point, it was a query on inv/em not unstoppable. -
this also happens on healing aura and the kinetics heals that i've seen, someone can be standing on top of the healing radius and it will miss them.
-
yep totally agree, i found the fun factor and risk element of the crash put pressure on the fights which made them even more fun.
If you're careful you shouldnt die too much to it - i die mostly using it because i forgot i'd fired it up - or i try to squeeze just that last mob group out of it before the crash
If i can tank Infernal, crash mid fight and still survive tehn it aint that bad -
totally agree, hasten on EM is worth it.
i've got my inv / em to 50 so i could post my total build if it would be of use.
however what i found was that the levelling to 50 and the 50 build were different entirely, on the way to 50 i had different requirements to fulfill rather than the final build.
what i mean is i built it to be respec'd along the way due to the fact that in the early levels you dont have much damage output - so its fast small attacks to generate aggro, barrage and energy punch high slotting, air super and haste in the loop to speed it up and give some knockdown on the guys that can really hurt.
mid levels moving into high defence/resist mode until you hit energy transfer then its slot that up and drop barrage from the attack cycle as you'll be turning from a fast small hitter to a large slow hitter - haste becomes even more important.
from 38-50 i took total focus, unstoppable and the pyre epic, however if i was doing it again i'd skip total focus and start teh epics as early as possible to get tehm slotted up asap - skipping total focus allows this slotting to happen.
unstoppable - dont leave it so late, take it early it needs so little slotting (3 recharge), and try and use it as much as possible. sme people dont like it and use it as a omg button, to me this is a waste as its a great power - just make sure you get used to the crash time by keeping a clock handy, it doesnt take long to get a good feel for when and where to use it - as long as you're up for using it in the first place. dont be scared to try and use it - i put off getting it till 41 because of the fear factor that is expressed on these boards sometimes and i seriously regretted it as its not as bad as people make out.
to me:
EM - 1 to 25 was fast hitting aggro grabbing and not killing much
25-35 build up resistance and defence based with the same fast attack cycle (bonesmasher is your biggest hit)
35-41 unstoppable and energy transfer learning time, you're moving into heavy hitting killing even con in one hit mode
41-50 you've dropped barrage entirely, you've slotted your epics out entirely, you kill in 3 hits.
your biggest pain in the butt will be endurance but hopfully the fight will be over before its an issue. -
we'll try and look after him
Has been great having you corner stoning the Iron Monkeys Bugsy, just looking forward to you being back now!!!
Keep your [censored] real dude! -
yer, totally agree, i think the only character i'll ever have that wont have the fitness pool as standard is my kinetics defender, and he doesnt have any travel powers either.
still dont understand why swift is slower than hurdle though -
6 slotted pre ed stamina you could get away with the toggles with no endurance reducers, but with 3 slot post ed its crippling, even with a couple of end redux in them its still crippling.

im too questioning these all powerful 'healers' who look down on and attempt to belittle defenders for <gasp> using their secondaries!
Defenders who do not use all their resources to defend the team with are not welcome in my group, they are doing half of their job.
people who class their empaths as 'healers' or 'buffers' dont do the ATs job, they are doing half of the job, no other class would get away with it so why should 'healers' be any different?
Pre ED an empath could survive and add a useful component to a higher level team because nothing they did required an acc check and the heals were big enough to cover higher level hp hits - Absorb Pain was useful there.
However there were masses of threads back then calling empaths xp leechs for teaming so high and getting phat xp.
now ED is in and an empath cant cover that distance as well, thus teaming around the same range is required, this means less time needed healing as the damage incoming isnt as high, which nets a empath needing to do less healing.
in which case, what are they doing the other times? if a empath in my team sat and waited for 'something to do' then i'd kick em! they have secondaries, use em! -
pre ED i had a build with shadow punch on auto and slotted 5 tohit debuff, that worked quite well in a fast attach cycle, but i did find it only worked on the guy you were hitting so it was a bit useless in big groups - was ok in 2-3 mob groups combined with ToF on one then swapping around the others.
but you're right now, with ED any benefit has been scuppered (and unfortunately it seems that Shadow Maul only makes one impact and debuff rather than multiple). -
shadow punch 3 slotted for damage does almost the same as air super 3 slotted for damage, just a little less.
its good if you're not using shadowmaul to keep the attack cycle fast and flowing. -
I didnt find it needed to enhance the ACC on it, and running exemp'd down where i lost FA, the tohit in souldrain did me well enough.
however maybe im just imagining it but did they lower the length of time its active for now? i seem to remember that on 3 recharge SO's you had a down time of about 15 seconds, now it seems that the downtime is much longer...like the effect doesnt last as long rather than the recharge time changing?
what i'd like to see done to SD is to work like Fulcrum shifts iconisation, so you can see how many mobs you hit by the number of SD icons you get. -

its been a pleasure having you in the supergroup, you've been a shining example of how to get the held badges!

ExtraGonks Epic is Body Mastery
Gonkehs Epic is Pyre Mastery -
totally with you here, i converted my front line tank to a secondary scranker and its great fun, you can mess about much more, as last night showed if you have a good team with you a specific 2nd string tank can do the job of the primary with enough support.
ps, i ran 2hand paladin in doac and continuously got told to go shield sword to 'tank' properly too
