[The reason behind this? Blasters would deliberately die then come running out of hospital with 'Defiance' maxed out and tear through the villains.
[/ QUOTE ]
Lol thats classic!!! -
and if you critical it'll always be on the least powerful attack you have... critical on cobra strike, ooo 6 damage
critical on parry ooo 40 damage
nice when it happens but certainly not something to plan for hehe -
just a general reply rather htan directed at dark here...
with the new i7 tactical start coming and the not being able to rest in the hospital, do people not think that base snatching will get worse and when a side is on teh back foot all that will happen is tehy'll get pushed more and more onto the backfoot as it'll take that much longer to get back into the action, and when you're pressed back into your base and getting base snatched and ganked as soon as you leave the hospital every second counts as normally the only thing that really works at that point is suicide runs to push the baddies back.
What i'd actually like to see if a roaming 10 yard chase drone on both sides, this would patrol around the base perimeter and give chase for 10 yards.
Last point - base snatching, i've played a fair bit in sirens now and a lot of time being stuck in base and just coming in and out of the hospital doors, during all my time playing in sirens i've yet to see one legitimate use of base snatching, its always when the villains are so mightly overwhelming the heros that really theres no point in being on the hero side and its then that villains use tp foe - i mean, they already had 13-3 advantage and were all standing right ont he base corner, every hero was getting mobbed by at least 6 villains and yet someone needs to [censored] from the base, thru what? boredom? heroes can quite easily be killed in base without needing to resort to that.
I dont mind tpfoe, i've been stalked using it and it was well used, but its when there really isnt any fight at all and its just gonna make the person leave the zone - thats when its used most and thats what i object to more than anything else. Its then that its used as 'heh this will [censored] them off' not really thinking about the follow up 'oh they are doing that, hmm seeyah later sirens'.
i can only see the onesided nature of unbalanced sides getting much much worse (and slowing the whole zones fight speed down) with the introduction of teh tactical start, unless they increase the safety zone around hte bases to actually be safe rather than the current setup where neither base is 'safe' which sorta defeats the object to me.
Actually thinking about it, 2 things would make the hero base safer - get rid of the fence on the hospital corner and push the 'back' fence to the back of the hospital and have the drone move to there.
Cant comment on the villain one as i've never got closer than 10 yards of the drone perimeter (unlike the hero side where i've been attacked while collecting a reward), but it does have a hell of a lot of gun/mob cover. -
yep yep
im up for this
got a squishy fire tank in range or can bring some other highlevels to it. -
it can stick a lt down but not a protected player.
I found that if i'm running shadowcloak, inky and orbiting death i can see a hidden stalker and the inky and debt will interrupt an as, but it is so slow to tick, certainly its slow enough that i can superspeed thru a group of villains and not be suppressed with an 'attack' tick from death or inky. -
ah yes, and Chuck if you read this...
Orion Star wants you to pop in and say helo
Dbeaver wants the celebrant badge
Psygon wants the keys to icon
Hell Ram wanted toy collector (i think) well either that or the remote for the tv
Alas i cant remember what Fire Bird wanted, probably some more things to blow up and more firey things to hurl.
-
GM_Chuck came and helped me out on teh mission, it turns out there was one clock stuck underneath the map, that missions now complete so we should be able to progress this further tomorrow.
Cheers Chuck! -
yep, thorns, the outcast bosses and lt's have holds, clockwork bosses and lt's have sleeps, vazilok bosses have stuns. trolls can cause knockback too.
i'd say clocks and thorns are probably the prime ones at that sort of level -
i'd like to sign up (if theres space), i've got 3 that i'd like to try it with, so pick the most suitable
dm/regen scrapper (50)
ta/fire controller (14)
ice/ice tanker (13) -
unyeilding does provide resistance to status effects like holds, immobilise, sleep and knockback etc.
but yep the down side to it is it drops your overall defence by -5% so you do get beat up a bit more. to negate that it does have a resist to damage component too it but you will probably feel the pain a bit till you get up to invincibility at 18, this is where you can get some defence back into the build.
Later on you can pick up Tough Hide which effectively negates that -def on unyielding.
this is where dull pain becomes a real front line power.
stick with it, what i'd recommend is as you say, learn which baddies you need to use it on and which you can do without, a lot of the fighting early can be done without using unyeilding.
mind you thinking of your example, the shockers do ranged energy damage, TI is smash lethal shield only and unyielding resists will not cover the energy damage incoming but at least you weren't getting slept
Later you can choose to pick up the 'resist energies' and 'resist elements' which will provide a little to take the edge off damage types like that, but your tanker will always be a smashing lethal resistance specialist and be a bit wooly vs the otehr damage types. -

Maybe we need a word for a character who can hold aggro properly then?
[/ QUOTE ]
ther allready is: Blaster ;-)
[/ QUOTE ]
Blasters can hold aggro fine, they just don't want it and can't handle it.
I think the nearest word for an aggro holder is a tank ( for example from a wikipedia search 'A Warrior is a class in World of Warcraft that excels in melee combat and playing the role of a tank' ), rather than a Tanker, the CoH archetype.
By choosing the name Tanker for the archetype, Cryptic put the class directly into the role of MMO tank, which is not really very appropriate for the superhero genre. Most superhero hard guys are the hardest hitters and the toughest, they don't do what Tankers do and act more like Brutes.
[/ QUOTE ]
following this example (which i totally agree with) look at other games that have 'tanks' the one i'm most familier is daoc, they have paladins and armsmen in the albion realm, the armsman does whopping damage and has the best armour, plus high hitpoints, however its the paladin who has lower hit points, really rubbish damage and the same armour that is the primary aggro tool, tehy really are the meat shields of albion, its they that everything hits and kills.
both armsmen and paladins require healing all the time to be effective, what they do is consolidate 99.9% damage incoming onto them and must have constant help from the team to work.
however superheroes they aint, hence it doesnt really work like that here (plus the aggro models a lot more simple here, which is a shame, but by design i think).
the second point, totally agree, i think out of reading comics every month for the last 3 years i've seen supes take fire for the team because he can all of maybe 2 times. it just doesnt happen, almost all heroes handle their own aggro, certainly bats the non super doesnt expect supes to come and taunt the mob thats kicking his behind and give him a breather. in fact i think he'd be insulted. -
booo, well i hope both y'all and cap get good referee outfits sorted, im so looking forward to seeing a ref pirate
))
-
small point xanth, you havent signed up yet - are you not playing because you're the ref?
or are you slyly using your starting example as sign up?)
-
psy is gonna be miffed if the 24 spots fill up before she gets home
-
heh, we made our telepads and thats all we've made from salvage, i was sorta hoping that the empowerment station required building so i could faff about a bit.
do people change their bases round loads? we've got one design that fits the stuff we have and thats it... -
Character name: Max Thunder
Global Handle: @ExtraGonk
Archetype: Tanker
Powersets: Invulnrability / SuperStrength -
i wouldnt respec for it at all, its about a bit of fun, the tactics that a respec would bring in maynot be there the next week.
certainly after gimping Extragonk for 2 issues after S4 i'd never respec for pvp unless i had at least 2 spares as well. -
hopefully it'll only take salvage from the player in question, rather than from the salvage store, as the store can be restricted (i think i read that anyway)
-
thanks all for the comments, i'll just leave it at the default 1 slot in that case
-
thanks
if you really want to pin a build down i can help with specifics, however i'd say play it thru, i certainly find it more fun that way -
totally agree.
the tactic of debting or tping onto drones isnt a 'win' for anyone in the zone, yep i bet it provides an immediate buzz for the person perpetrating the move, however all that happens is the victim thinks 'sod this' and leaves the zone. do it enough then who are people going to fight?
forcing people to leave a zone isnt a 'win', its a total lose/lose situation and defeats the very point of pvp zones, that of player vs player. -
my only real recommendations would be:
take TI to start, Take Unyeilding at 8, Take Invincibility at 18.
your decisions on how your character will actually be played should work round those keystone powers, taunting or not taunting can easily be decided with the handclap/taunt choice at level 16.
superstrength is a good and adaptable secondary so you will have fun any way you play as long as you get those Invul powers in place asap. -
I've got my warshade up to 34 now (was delayed becuase i accidentally fell into sirens with an alt for a good while) and i'm starting to fill out some of my umbral armours with slots...
I've found Shadow cloak seems to do quite a good defence job, is there any figures on exactly how much it does and is it worth slotting for defence? at the moment all it has is 1 end reducer on it.
Any help is appreciated. -
it was pretty funny too, the whole clown costume and tiny terror tots and speeded jumping jacks were what we were there for.
yep it confused us too but it was fun for sure.
