I was just thinking after reading the CoH comic book, what if after a fight, if you got hit really bad, what if you intentionally "gimped" yourself, like you cant fly for a bit because you got beat up pretty bad or you cant sprint because your legs are sore or anything along those lines.
Ideas? Comments? -
Well if you go Fire Energy, you can skip it.
Level 4 is Uber level , get Buildup and start one shotting whole groups with a fireball heh.
I dont have Flares , sometimes I want another single attack but I have gotten by without it. I am going to hold out till the later Fire single target powers come available. -
I didn't read any mention of flares. Should we skip it?
-
Good grief he didnt say the other power sets were not effective, just not optimal for power leveling the way he described. I like my Eng guy best and might enjoy an Electric blaster as well, but its ridiculas to argue they level as fast. The simple mathematics dictate they dont. Does it mean they are gimp, uninteresting, poor levelers or inneffective, no. Just a bit slower. I dont understand the emotion behind people defending certain power sets. Blasters are kings of leveling and Fire or AR are the kings of those. Too many people just throw out the old................well come watch me on such and such server and you will see just how good x power set is. That offers no further insight or reason why your set is superior. If you are a high lvl, it does show that you are competant and understand the game mechanics well. I think my fire blaster is pretty boring, but nothing has lvld at the speed he has of the blaters I have. shruggs

>> Electric Blaster, I don't tend to see these problems.
Denial is ugly. Bump for a great Blaster Guide. -
OOC: The General Zee Origin: Chapter 1 The Meeting
FBI investigator Tony Grant was on yet another crappy case. He joined the agency for excitement, like on action movies. So far, he had met nothing but disappointment. It seemed that all he ever did was go investigate "Possible Hero" cases. Usually the only thing he found was some kid launching a model rocket with too much powder, or a boxer trying to break some kind of record. His relationship with his wife had become almost nothing. He wished that, maybe, if he could just meet one real hero, that maybe his wife would forgive him.
As he walked to the coordinates given to him by HQ he was shocked. A large rock ridge had appeared, seemingly, overnight! Unaccustomed to this kind of thing, Tony stood still as a deer in headlights. Suddenly, the ridge began opening. Tony was excited; he may finally meet a hero.
When a human exited the vehicle Tony almost threw a fit. Soon, though, Tony realized that the "man" that had just exited the vehicle was far from human. He has circuitry running along every arm and leg. He even had circuits in his hair, but they were very difficult to see.
The man hauled a large red clump of metal out of the opening. He began putting it on like armor. When he arrived at a medieval-looking helmet, however, he paused, and discarded it. He then walked around the ridge to what appeared to be the front. As he opened it, smoke filled the air.
Tony started coughing. He didn't want to, but he couldn't help it. It appeared to startle the newcomer. Then the newcomer came over to where Tony was standing, and appeared to clear the air just by waving his hand.
The man spoke, "Glor4^%x?"
"What," Tony asked?
"Jler#$? Gonrrtpqr? %&$&h? Can you comprehend?"
"YES! YES! I understand," shouted Tony, grateful to recognize the language.
I am General Zee, General of the Royal Justician Army. My ship was damaged in the battle, and I need access to a Starport ASAP. I also need access to the Royal Armory.
Royal? Justician? Who? What are you talking about?
I am sorry, my language must be incorrect, General Zee began.
No, no. I understand your language, Tony interrupted, but where do you come from?
Are you mad? What system have I landed on?
Sir, I really dont understand
Get me a leader, someone of the Justician nobility.
I dont know what Justicia is!!! Right now you are on earth! You dont have a passport, or a visa, so that makes you an illegal alien! Now, unless you explain everything that youre talking about right now I will bring you in! Tony exclaimed, exasperated.
Earth? I crashed outside the Monarchy? How could this be? Earth does not know of the existence of the Monarchy? General Zee inquired, obviously shocked.
At that moment, Tony noticed something special about the generals eyes. They were yellow, bright yellow. Tony didnt understand how he had missed it. He took of his sunglasses, and gave them to the general. Here, he said, take these. They have motion trackers, auto targeting, and night vision. You might need it.
General Zee was blatantly confused. A gift? I thank you, but what will I need these for?
Tony couldnt help but to grin. He held up an official document and stated, Youre Earths newest hero! -
It seems a little bit like that from the amount of Virtue-related activity on this forum.
Playing on Justice at the moment, but want to get round to creating a more rp-oriented toon, so want to make sure it's on a good server for roleplay. -
Tell ya what why not leave this post alone and go make your own giude about Hover , Fly, Electricity or whatever.
This person posted a very nice guide that obviously took some time to write and it has turned into a flame war about nonsense. Why you want to hijack this thread with your dribble?
I could give a crap less if your electricity Blaster is lvl 40 or any of that stuff. If the title said Electricity Blaster debate than ok maybe I would be interested in what you have to say.
Quit hijaking this thread and go get one of your own.
yes i am!
no your not!
yes i am!
no your not!
My blaster can beat up your blaster!
no you cant!
yes I can!
give it a rest. -
more often than not, there're people RP'ing under the atlas statue in Atlas park.

I guess we're getting into the details now... in all the binds we've experimented with so far, it seems that there are key combos that just won't transition smoothly. I guess it all comes down to fine tuning them to how YOU want them to work, and then training your fingers not to do those few things that break them?
So, I'm going to work on the setup that works best for me this weekend (I didn't have time last night to even log into the game :/ ). Once I get them working with ESDF and all the little transitions that I prefer, I'll post them, and help make mods to them for people that like it done a little differently.
Sorry Ahz, if I posted so often yesteday that I kept interrupting you. Real slow here at work -
OOC: This is goning to be the hardcore Roleplayers room for the triumph server. You can Tell stories about your characters, or have discussions between characters. Have fun! I'll soon post the General Zee story!

On the outskirts of Paragon city, where the War Walls provide no protection, the small town of Patriot Point nests. Away from the hustle and fast-paced lifestyle of Paragon, Patriot Point is much more tranquil - there, surrounded by lush trees, one house stands out above all others. Perhaps, it's the immense garden behind it, showing off various types of flowers of all colors, a small pond that remains shaded by a towering weeping willow and above all else, an Acacia tree looms over head.
While, besides it's gaurden, the house appears to be like any other house in the neighborhood, there is something - perhaps ethereal - that truly stands out. Passer-bys couldn't lay their eyes off the house - and neighbors would often admire it's beauty. People would say that it just has a specific radience to it. No matter the weather - whether it be howling storms, or the darkest of night, the home would always seem to glow. Anyone who got so much as a hundered feet from the house would just feel pleasently good. There was absolutely no doubt about it - there was just something about the house - but no one truly knew what it was.
While, the house drew much attention, and was quite liked - the two occupants of the house did not get the same respect. A women, in her early forties owned the house - she was an eccentric women with greying hair. She was often viewed as a 'crazy ol' hag' who believed in the impossible. She, Rubella, or Ruby as she preferred, was highly fascinated in pyschic arts. Crystals of all sorts, quartz, torquise, sapphire and rubies - numerous crystals of all sorts were around the house. Bookshelves and cabinets - all showing off a bright assortment of stones and gems from around the world.
Ruby was fascinated in the pyschic arts - the crystals around her house were used for healings, and cleansing of the spirit - she would use the crystals to channel energy and power. Bookshelves housed numerous books on astral projection, hypnosis, lucid dreaming and much more. Hours upon hours would be spent in meditation - but despite all this, Ruby had one major problem, and it ate away at the women - she had no pyshic ability - no matter how hard she tried, she could not perform any pyschic tasks of any sorts - and thus, she saw herself as a failure.
Rubella lived with her nephew, Cassius, who's parents had died in a tragic car accident when he was only two years into life. Unknowing to his parents, aunt, Cassius was a mutant. Cassius showed the signs of mutation at a very early age - and it was due to his aunt. Born with slight pyschic powers, that quickly developped in his aunt's house - thanks to the ammount of energy being brought into the house by the numerous crystals, Cassius was compelled to naturally develop his pyschic abilities.
The years went by, and Cassius Daemont became quite the pyschic. With his third eye, visably, open, Cassius could see all the energies of the world. Through his meditations, he gained complete control of energy. After meditation, he'd often create a psi-ball, and just juggle it around. His meditations took him to new worlds - new realms of all sorts - and he very well enjoyed it, as Astral Projection became one of his favorite past times.
Cassius, however, had something else not found in this world. He possessed a truly kind heart. No matter the cause, Cassius would always take the time to stop and help people. He became well-known, but also, due to his mutation, he was always looked upon as odd. But, despite the negetive thoughts - all of which he was fully aware of - Cassius never once thought twice about helping another.
It was his kind heart that brought about a most wicked change. During a meditation, he heard a cry unlike any other. Pain and sorrow echoed in the distant voice - and he was compelled to help whomever was in need. Thus, he projected himself into many different worlds, and times - he went to whole new dimensions - farther than he had ever went before. Until, he found the source of the cry. Before his ethereal form, stood a figure unlike anything he had ever imagined. Shrouded in darkness, with negative energies swirling about, a perfect man stood with a devilish smile. Cassiues knew instantly who stood before him. The being was Thannatos - the ancient and long since forsaken god of Death. With a wave of the hand, Cassius found himself trapped - unable to move, or think. He just watched in horror as Thannatos approached the vacated body of Cassius.
With Cassius' ethereal form seperated from his body, Thannatos was free to take control of the living body - however, Cassius' mind was strong. And, through desperation, he managed to break free from the death gods hold - and he rushed for his body - and at the last possible second, Cassius found himself in the conscious world, within his body.
However, full control was lost - Thannatos had succesfully managed to posess Cassius - and a battle for the body of the young pyschic has begun. Thannatos grows stronger every day, as millions of people within the world fall victims to death. There is no doubt that death is a natural process, and it cannot be stopped - but it can be hindered.
Cassius Daemont as well as Thannatos, now roam Paragon City - each with their own goals. Thannatos hopes to rise again - and with such immersive pyschic abilities at his fingertips, there is very little anyone can do to stop the forsaken diety. Cassius, however, is the only person who has a chance of stopping the god - and if he doesn't, he not only loses his own body - but is forced to watch the world suffer by his own hands. So, Cassius fights crime in Paragon City in hopes to do enough good - to save enough lives to weaken, and drive out the forsaken Thannatos.
The battle will not be easy for the young pyschic, as he will attempt to do what no one has done before - overcome, and defeat Death.
The battle against Death has begun. -
i'm pretty new to the game. i've had it for a week and half or so now. i play mostly on Justice, but i just made a character on Virtue with the intent to actually roleplay the character. so i was wondering if there's any late night people who play on Virtue. i work over night and usually get home between 2-3. and most the time i've got nothing else to do so i hop on and play. at any rate; if you'd want to and are on during those hours, drop me a pm. thanks.

so whats the big diff in an energy 1-2 shotting a mob and the elec doing the same? Drain or knockback...pfft wtf cares.

The heroes are soon through the Baumtown gates and back in relatively fresher air. Fyre quickly appreciates being on solid, correctly-colored concrete again. The group is soon stopped yet again, though, this time by a new hero Danny had yet to meet.
"I was trying to get in there to warn you all, but these guys are more worried about security clearance than the safety of a bunch of heroes."
The stranger is a woman, and an attractive one at that. Danny quickly masks any interest as best he can, not really in the mood to get caught up in that field at the moment. It wasn't (that) hard to forget her looks either, with what she had to say. Apparently the 5th collumn, a group of Nazi terrorists straight out of WW2, is out to get the group of heroes Fyre has associated himself with.
"Oh, fun."
Of course, Danny's little comment is largely unnoticed by the gorup, who immediately begin conversing over what lies ahead, which is actually a reasonable thing to be worrying about. Danny begins day-dreaming until the apparent leader addresses him.
"Now, thanks for the offer of your apartment, sir, but FSS has quite a few safe houses in King's Row, we'll head there."
Safe houses in King's Row? What's FSS? Boy, I need to start considering the situations I jump into before I jump into them. Now I have heroic responsibilities. Ugh. Those ALWAYS take up my afternoon.
After pausing for a moment, Danny realises he hasn't even introduced himself, and knows none of the group's names. After politely waiting for him to finish a conversation with someone via communicator, Danny speaks up.
"You know, I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Dann-"
Without warning, the woman in the man's arms cries out from the depths of her unconsiousness. Danny jumps.
"Gah!"
After everyone looks at the woman with worry, one of the others speaks up.
"You think it would be a good idea if I went on ahead? I could get the building ready, maybe find some medical equipment for these two.."
Fyre scratches his head, and decides to keep his mouth shut for the time being. -
I have a 27 Elec/Elec and 34 Fire/Device.
Fire Prim outdamage Elec Prim either single/pack target.
Why?
Elec have 2 single attack, 1 snipe, and 1 AE.
Fire have 3 single attack, which one of them is almost as strong as the snipe, 1 snipe, 1 AE and 1 Cone.
No hasten, Fire's attack allow them to attack most of the time. But the Elec are going to wait for his 2 singles attack to recycle. -

Im playing a non-AOE blaster and his specialty is wiping out large groups of orange. Yes, thats right, he can take out a group of orange. Not only can he handle a group of orange, he can also destroy a combo of 2 purp lieutenants and 2 red minions. How do you suppose he could do this? No, it doesnt involve any exploits, but rather the trick involves hovering and blasting from a distance. So heres my suggestion to the person who wrote this guide try the hover-blasting technique and once you reach level 22, youll see a big difference between flight and speed.
[/ QUOTE ]
The big difference between the two is speed. The superseed AE'er is finishing a group in about 5 seconds and moving to the next. You're spending much more time to kill one group.
Is it bad exp? No. You'll be generating more exp per hour than any other archtype.
Is it the most efficient exp gain, which is what this guide is about? No. AEing will generate the most exp per hour hands down. -
*chuckles* Fox, she's right. You love the attention.
-
Oh yea, that must be it...they're "envious"...

I also noticed that in nofly when you press a movement key fly is turned on but hover does not seem to be turned off. Conversely when releasing the movement key hover is turned on but fly is not turned off. Does turning one on automatically turn the other off? I rerolled so I'm stuck without flight atm and can't check (and don't have access to CoH at work anyway). The binds I used before turned both on/off and I never thought to check if that was necessary.
[/ QUOTE ]
One turns the other off automatically. If you do it explicitly, then these binds won't work without modifications if you only know how to hover, as you'll fall out of the sky when you try to moveThis is a pretty nifty way that Ahz did it, and allows me to use the binds with my lower level alts. But, they do put a "Switching on hover instead of fly" message in your chat box, which I don't think you get if you turn it off explicitly. But I'm not sure on that, as I've long ago turned these messages off to avoid spamming.
[ QUOTE ]
Regarding the tap jump, couldn't the binds just be altered to omit y axis in the run set? It doesn't seem like sprint would need to be explicitly turned on for jumping since if moving forward you would already be sprinting etc.. For instance in flyxyz F would transfer you to runxz. Haven't fully thought that through but perhaps it's workable.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is what I tried to say in the post preceding this one... And after making the changes in my binds, I figured out an easy way to describe the changes:
In every file in the run directory, modify all the files with NO y in the filename so that space is "+up" only, and x is nop only.
For all files WITH a Y, erase the entire bind for space and X except for the bind_load_file command. These files with a Y are no longer called when in run mode, and are only used when switching from fly to run and x or space is depressed. Changing the binds as I've said lets you release that key and puts you in the right mode without changing anything else.
Gnarly -
EDIT: Quote removed because the lack of line returns was making my eyes bleed.
Haha, that request was just a tounge and cheek jest at your awesome contribution to the Hover/Fly /bind setup. In any event, I appreciate the time and effort that you put into looking over my binds. If there's one thing I truly appreciate amidst all the processes I follow in my professional life, it's a good peer review.
More on topic... When I cast Clear Mind with my Empath, I use the exact same bind format that you mentioned to make sure that I hit everyone possible. If I really wanted a headache, I could implement that through a system similar to what I posted here. Actually, I think that I could set this up rather easily for the public if I could find those Visual Studio CDs when I get home today. -
So I've decided two things.
1) I need to move to Virtue.
2) When I get done with my summer classes (damn that college), I'm writing my own origin story.
Otherwise, excellent job sly. I loved reading it. MUST.... HAVE... MORE!!!!!!! -
I think you'd be surprised at how many powergamers are roleplayers. Simply because you fall in one of those categories, does not mean you can't also fall in the other.
