Hey Blue Volt,
Hmm... To be honest, I don't follow a lot of your post. It's one of those "You have to see it to understand" things, and explaining it in words just lost me.
Let me explain (simply, I hope) how the implementation of blastoff currently in my binds works.
If you're on the ground, not moving, moving forward, sideways, anyways, and press and hold your FLY key, then you change to fly mode, and an UP is added to any horizontal movement. That up component is halted when you release the fly key, which will no longer substitute as an up key. Have to press space (or whatever you chose to map it to) to move up now.
As for setting down, I do the same thing as you. I mouselook towards the ground, and hit RUN when I'm close enough to it, and any horizontal movement is maintained. Even Autorun is maintained between running and flying, though you get no blastoff when in autorun.
Try out the latest version, and see what the current version does NOT do that you'd like it to, and I'll look into it.

Did someone have news about the 1.3 version?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you're referring to my binds, then actually I just put up 2.1.
The following changes have been made:
- Overhauled the user interface (such as it was). The explanations of what each key does is now in the program itself, so you don't have to have a copy of the readme beside you when you answer the questions. This was major enough, at least from the user's perspective, that I thought it warranted a 2.0.
- Fixed a transition I broke earlier between autorun and autofly... hitting your fly or run key before stopped forward movement for 1 or 2 versions. Fixed now.
- Fixed SuperSpeed problem, that Sprint was being toggled on when Superspeed was being turned OFF.
- Fixed it so Sprint/SS no longer turns on when jumping (or pressing Down) in place
It's up at the website in my Sig.
Falstaff, though I was having multiple and annoying problems with both Geocities and my own payed for webspace, my site is now working fine afaik, and I changed Geo to just point to my site. Thanks for the offer though. For a while it was easier to program the binds than it was to share them. :/
-Noctum, Good Catch. Fixed for version 2.2 but I won't actually publish that until something more major comes along.
- Crittias, Will look into adding options for mouselook on the ground and in the air separately. What I do, however, is have my rbutton for +mouse_look (standard) but my SHIFT+rbutton set to ++mouse_look. That way, when I'm flying or autorunning/flying, I can turn it on and not have to hold down the button.
- Sadow and Ahz.... as for SuperJump, I was thinking about a whole mode for SJ, but it seemed easier to just have a single key bound to turn it on/off and set ++Up. I changed my SHift+space key to ++up so I can cruise while flying with a 45degree down look-angle, while maintaining level flight. I'll also use it when I get a Super Jumper. Then just turn on ++Up while in our binds autorun modes, and I think that'll work. Not sure though, as I don't have a super jumper. Sadow, would that work for you?

In reply to The True Prof.
I hate to break the news to you but choosing to do something or not choosing to do something w/ out any consistency is not roleplayin. In other words your saying that you sometimes help a fallen character or sometimes dont depends on your characters mood. Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard because basically all that u r saying is that your character has no character because there is nothing that he does which defines his character. For instance if u were to always help a fellow hero in need then you could say that u r roleplaying. U however have a guy that is defined by your flights of fancy. This is not only lame but is not roleplaying. -
I got a clue from a citizen today. I was messing around with a new character... about 5th level when he got the info, I was in Atlas Park and the citizen told me about something blah blah blah Sky Raiders, etc.
-
It would be nice to have /commands for these factoids. It's obvious that the servers are tracking this info, so why can't we access it on demand? Just my 0.02 influence.
-
Gnarly,
Just another idea: I like having mouselook on when I fly, but _not_ when I run. Any chance of making the mouselook option a toggle for both states?
Love the work you've done so far. Very cool! -
Grotus: I stumbled across my Visual Studio CDs the other day, so I thought it would be a good learning practice for me to do this in VB. In fact, it's almost done already -- I'm just debugging and making it much more robust. I considered Perl and Java, but when I thought about it VB seemed like it would be the best fit for this. I figure that anyone who is playing CoH almost undoubtedly has a Windows box, and I can make a decent GUI for it in no time.

Hey Ahzurdan, just wondering whether you could make an adjustment to the "+up" key when on the ground so that those guys who have super jump can activate it when they press that key and it auto shuts off when its released. Then this bind can be upgraded to the "Best travel bind EVER!!!" lol.

Or, you could be right!
I found it, and it's fixed. You'll see it in 1.3 later today, along with fixing where I messed up the transition from Autorun to Autofly. Thanks Klaatu!
And Bluevolt... Thanks for your persistence in getting Blastoff added to my binds. After a night playing with it, it IS very nice to have. So what is setdown, exactly? Hitting the RUN key while flying moves you down until released? I rarely use my down key... usually just mouselook down and fly forward, but willing to learn new/better ways of doing things.

Edited to make comment to Blue Volt, rather than another post right after this one.

I did a quick search and didn't find these listed anywhere so I went ahead and did this. Sorry if it has indeed been posted before.
============================================
There are 7 different types of NPC citizens wandering the streets of Paragon City that offer a hero some additional information. To garner this information, you just need to stand near them and left-click. The type of information given depends solely on the first letter of their names, here is a list of the letters and what information they give:
<ul type="square"> [*] E - Official Real Time (based off of Cryptic's location I believe)[*] F - Official Paragon City time (in-game time)[*] G - Number of Heroes in your current zone [*] H - Randomly selects a name of another hero in current zone and praises them[*] J - Informs you how many times you have used a power today (may take several clicks to get results)[*] K - Informs you how much damage you have done with a power today (may take several clicks to get results)[*] M - Total time played since current hero's creation [*] N - Number of times you've logged in with current Hero [*] O - How long you've been logged in today with current Hero (this one seems buggy though, as it resets after each indoor mission) [/list]Anyhow, I hope this helps others or is at least interesting to anyone else out there.
Just a small note - Ok, found the two NPC types that give statistics for power usage and damage done from powers. Both may take several clicks to get the desired results.

actually I've already done that. The Macro and Bind Bible can be via searching or on Ishin Ryu's website (whose address escapes me)

You all have found so many new slash commands I think that the slash command appendix is going to have to be separated from the /bind faq and turned into a faq of its own...

Thevshi:
Bernadette started to rush towards the third IRA sniper on the rooftop she was on as he spun towards her. He fired his rifle at her, the rounds bouncing harmlessly off her as his eyes widened in amazement. As she closed with him, she quickly extended her left arm, clotheslining the man. His feet flew up into the air as she carried him with her before he fell hard onto his back and lay still.
A flash of green energy from the other rooftop caught Bernadettes attention as she saw Rook take a sniper out of action before being shot off the roof by someone using an energy rifle. There were still two more snipers on the roof that she could see, so Bernadette shifted to her desolid form and flew over towards the other roof.
One of the snipers tired to fire at her, the round passing harmlessly through her as she looked down to where Rook had fallen. He was surrounded by at least a dozen large robots that were closing in on him as he rushed one. Bernadette knew he was going to need some help, but she had to deal with the snipers first. Hoping Rook could last until she could get down there, she turned her attention back to the two snipers that were both now shooting at her to no avail.
Coming down next to one of the snipers, Bernadette shifted her density to near maximum as she hit the man with a right hook. She pulled her punch to avoid killing the man, but her blow still broke his jaw and knocked out a couple of teeth as he went flying back ten feet to land on the snow covered roof. The last sniper again fired at her, this time his shot just bounced off her shoulder.
Bernadette started towards the sniper, who just dropped his rifle and began to run. He hadnt made it very far before she reached out and grabbed the back of his shirt, yanking him back with tremendous force. She kept her right arm going behind her as she threw him fifty feet across the roof and into a low wall that he hit hard. He fell to the snow covered ground and lay still.
An energy blast slammed into Bernadette, her invulnerability taking most of the damage, but she still felt the hit some. She tried to look around for the person with the rifle, but figured she needed to get down to help Rook. She shifted to desolid form as another energy blast went right through her. She dropped down through the roof and flew through the building to where Rook was battling the robots.
Rook had ripped open one, but several others were starting to hammer him with their large fists. Bernadette dove down and flew through a couple of the ones hitting Rook. Her passage shorted circuits inside the Marauders, causing them to lock up as their systems began to compensate for the disruption. Bernadette turned and looked back, preparing to increase her density and start helping Rook directly.
Rook:
Rook could barely focus on his attackers. His muscles were freezing and his body sore from the powerful punches of the Marauder drones. Yet, these robots wouldn't be the end of him, Rook swore to himself.
Ripping off the arm of one of the drones, Rook swung it with electricity pouring out of it, and spilt one of the drones into two pieces.
Rook's fingers turned into long green radioactive claws, which he used for situations just like this. Again, he pounced on the closest one to him, ripping at it like a wildman. Pieces flew everywhere as Rook seemed to be incensed by the sound of their lifeless bodies oozing electricity.
Yet, Rook's attacks couldn't be quick enough for this small army of drones. As soon as he would attack one, the others would lift him off of it and slam their metal gauntlets into his chest. Rook could barely see them, but the red lights which seemed to be their eye, shown brightly in the white field of snow.
Kicking one of the drones off of him, Rook sprung up, jumped off of the chest of a drone with a mighty push, and sent his body flying into another Marauder with a punishing side-kick which sent the drone flying back through the walls of one of the warehouses.
Just then , Rook noticed a disturbance in a group of the Marauder drones. They seemed to phase out for a couple of seconds, but then looked as if they were readjusting themselves. Rook shrugged it off quickly as he sent a sizzling radiation blast into the eye of one of the drones. The blast sent it spiraling into the air, and it exploded as it hit the ground.
Then, as it seemed as if Rook had a chance to breath, a powerful two-handed punch smacked directly into the center of his back, smashing his face into the ground.
Struggling with all of his strength to continue the fight, Rook barely looked up to see what he could do next. What he saw confused him at first, but then he was amazed to see the young Irish girl Thevshi joining in the fray.
Thevshi:
Bernadette saw that her tactic had only briefly helped Rook as more drones closed in, smashing him to the ground. She was still feeling a bit lightheaded from what ever drugs they had given her, but she knew she didnt have much of a choice.
Flying up above one of the drones, she dove down towards it, increasing her density to maximum as she fell, her arms crossed in front of her. The effort had her seeing starts, but she managed to reach her twenty tons of weight as she slammed into the drone, smashing it into the ground, sending snow, concrete and robot parts in all directions as a several square block area around her point of impact shook from the shockwaves.
She stood up quickly in the crater she had created, her sweater and skirt torn in several places as her breath hung in the cold air in front of her. The drone she had landed on was destroyed, parts of it smashed flat by her weight, while other parts had been torn off.
A large shadow loomed up behind her as Bernadette ducked to the right as a drone tried to hit her with the same double handed punch one had used on Rook. The blow hit the ground, sending more concrete flying and shaking the nearby area as Bernadette turned to her left as she swung a right hook at the drone. Her punch caught the bent over drone right in the head, smashing it back down into the main body with a violent spark of electricity.
Electrical current played harmlessly along her arm as Bernadette stepped away from the damaged drone which just slumped forward in an almost human stance. Another drone stepped forward, swinging at her with its large right fist. Bernadette brought up her left arm, blocking the attack as she began to step in to counter when she felt a heavy blow to her upper back as another drone smashed a large gauntlet into her.
The blow sent pain all along Bernadettes spine as she staggered forward slightly. Her head spinning due to the pain and the drugs still in her system, Bernadette focused and managed to shift again to her ghost like state of desolid as the two drones were joined by a third and all three swung at her.
Their large fists passed through her body as electricity spurted around them, circuits with in the arms shorting out as they passed through her. Bernadette stood back up, a trace of blood on her lip as she held her arms out to either side, placing her hands inside two of the drones. The two locked up as their central cores began to short out. She pulled her hands back in as she walked through the third, shorting it out as well.
Stepping out the back of the drone, Bernadette returned her density to near maximum as she turned to finish off the immobilized drones. The sudden shifts in her density were to much for her current condition as she staggered backward slightly, starts before her eyes as her head spun.
Rook:
Rook noticed as the young girl, who fought valiantly to help him out, staggered forward and nearly fell over. She looked exhausted. The Marauder drones picked up on this, and two of them went to finish her off.
"NO!!!", Rook growled as he sprung up from the ground, ran towards the two drones and tackled them to the ground with a loud clang sound.
Rook ripped away at the drones with his radioactive claws, sending chunks of machinery flying into the air. One of the drones tried to sneak up behind him, but Rook quickly disabled it with a swipe to its leg, causing it to fall over and crawl towards Rook and Thevshi. Rook raised his work boot and shoved it right through the head of the drone. It tried to fight back, but soon fizzled out and died.
Then, surprisingly, the few that were left began to back away. They disappeared into the thick snow storm, never to be seen by Rook and Thevshi again.
Rook crawled over to Thevshi to make sure she was all right. Strange as it may have seemed, she would have ripped his head off if he got that close to her a day ago.
"Ye alright lass?, said Rook as he put his leather jacket around the shivering body of the young girl.
As all seemed well, a huge, lumbering mass slowly made its way towards the two. The man had to be nearly 9 feet tall and weighed three times as much as Rook did.
Granite stood a few feet between Rook and Thevshi laughing in a thick and deep manner and pounding his fist into his other palm.
"Aww bloody 'ell...", Rook said aloud as he realized who was in front of him.
*******
About a hundred feet away, Rose readied her vast assortment of weapons. She realized that the drones had weakened the two mutants severely, and she and Granite wanted the satisfaction of killing them off. Besides, Marauder Drones were very expensive.
As much as she wanted to send a rifle blast through Rook's skull, she knew he had to take out the young girl too. She was very dangerous too, and she was a pain in the [censored].
Using her thermal goggles, she maneuvered throughout the thick snow storm. The young girl would probably not even realize what hit her. -

The only time grabbing a blinky matters is when they give temp powers. And at that point its best for owner to NOT get it. Polygonpon and me think we figured out a bug. He grabbed a temp power in a blinky on my mission, it did not have a certain numer of uses before it ran out. I got the other "blinky". When I turned in mission like normal I lost my temp power but polgonpon kept his. I figured it would run out in an hour but the next day he still had his @_@. So now he basicly has invisibility.
That was last week dont know if he still has the temp or not.

So, instead of reporting a bug you found, your friend exploited it and now you are encouraging someone else to do the same......oookay.

I did report it. -
Ok, Geocities is still giving me problems. So, new version at my old website, which seems to be working now. There is a new executable version, and the new .bas only file, both versions 1.2. They included a buffed up readme. Link is in my Sig.
-
Thanks for the suggestions, Ahz. I do have the .bas files available separately for those that already have Liberty Basic, but separating everything else would require the user to rename stuff in a not-very-intuitive way.
Anyway, people do seem to be able to get the files, as it took only an hour yesterday for the page to reset. I'm watching site statistics and people are viewing the page. Not sure how many are getting that big file, though, so I'll continue looking for a new home.
Greyhawke, glad to help, and I hope it works for your super-speeder. Please let us know as I haven't tested the superspeed (primary run power) portion of it in game. The binds it makes LOOK good, but do they actually work?
Gnarly -
Geko,
Please take the "We must have xxx constantly or we suck!" posts with a grain of salt. As a Mind/Radiation Controller who ended up 6 slotting AM (3 SO Rechg + 3 DO End Recov) I have no issues with this power at the moment. It is up a LOT, and I don't even have hasten *Gasp*.
I could sit here and complain about some things in my AT and claim that they're the most important things to the game and need to be fixed right now...but I'd be delusional.
In my not so humble opinion, the biggest change you guys made to the game was the XP (Purple con) change. I'm not sure you guys really thought this all the way through. Several times now I have gone on level 30 missions only to find a level 35 Lt. at the end, which is essentially an NPC 6 levels higher than myself.
Now I know you know where an NPC falls on the 6+ levels higher than a player (In regards to effectiveness / accuracy) and I know you all have already made some changes to this (That aren't live yet). This should be #1 priority right now, you have obviously designed the game to have a high level NPC mixed in with some lower level NPC's (i.e. Crey's Folly). It has essentially brought my hunting to a halt on my primary character. I can't solo groups that have a purple NPC 5+ levels in it, and I can't find a group in these zones because everyone is soloing underlings for silly xp.
This game currently revolves around combat and grouping and both these things have been hit hard by the change. I have been saying the game is too easy since release, but changing from "easy" to impossible wasn't quite what I had in mind.
By the way, wanted to add that there is no middle ground between easy and impossible in this situation. It's an artificially inflated difficulty based 'solely' on the NPC's level. Make the tougher Lt's and Bosses more resistant in general rather than simply making them purple cons. If these are to be our primary challenges as we level, they should be very difficult, but not simply because I am 1% effective against them. -

(hey guys, I just did my first story and I wanted some feed back, good bad or evil your opinion is appreciated.)
A traitor is worth a thousand words
"It has long been said that to to defeat an enemy, you must know them. To know an enemy, you must convert them." -Unknown
Siya's cold grey eyes looked around the abandoned warehouse. This was one of the more unusual places for her and her kindred to meet. The hero's of Paragon city had recently conducted a raid on this very building. They had believed that they had destroyed all of the enemies with in. They were wrong. Siya's eyes looked toward the sorcerer before her. His cold green eyes staring back. Even though they were devoid of emotion, one could almost detect a hint of pride.
As he stared at her, and the others around her, muffled screams could be heard coming from the door behind him. They finally opened up and three victims were thrown out. The citizens of paragon city, one of which was caught by siya herself, were bleeding profusely. Followed by them was a herald. He looked at the victims and they slowly began to shut-up. They seemed to become zombie-like before him. He walked around the zombie-like citizens and faced the group siya was in.
He raised his hand,"Siya Stormhart, Come forth."
Siya glanced at the others around her, with a bitter and arrogant smile as she walked forward. The herald slowly spoke as he began to take out several utensils of cutting and other devices.
"Siya has been able to catch one of our victims tonight. For her sacrifices and her many battles with the decadence of this town.. We have decided to induct her into the Tsoo!"
As he spoke Siya could feel herself becoming more and more relaxed. When she realized the utensils were for her she tried to bring her hands up, in an attempt to attack him. She had to get away, she didn't want to be apart of the Tsoo! They had promised her money! She had no powers, to speak of. She simply was one of the best martial artists with weapons in the area. She tried to grab her sword but she couldn't. He had the most amazing eyes she had ever seen.
Two Inkman grabbed her and the herald slowly inserted his utensil into one of the prisoners, taking her blood and life essence and then began to carve into Siya.
She wanted to cry out in pain, she wanted to tell him to stop. She wanted to jerk her hands away and tear his head off. Wow he had pretty eyes.
A few minutes later bright blinding light, and nothing could be seen.
Siya now found herself upon a body, an incapacitated body. Sweat dripped from her forehead, and her arms as she brought her sword down onto the man. The hero gasped as he slowly dissapeared being recalled to the hospital. Siya cursed and brought her sword up, to the next hero. The celtic symbols flashed a bright red as lightning streaked from her into the next hero, sending her to the hospital as well.
The hero's had in fact known they hadn't cleaned out the building. They were waiting for the ritual to begin so they could stop it and finish off this particular sect of the Tsoo.
The ground slowly trembled, and she fought to keep her balance. She turned to face three figures. The one to the right was a black man, with a rather odd looking eye piece. He was all muscle, probably with no brains. To the left was a red haired woman with a green suit, showing more than it should have. In the middle was a man with a rather archaic helmet and a stars with red white and blue upon his uniform.
"Statesman and associates.. I'm surprised to see that they sent their best for little ol' me."
"They didn't, we're here for the herald." The rather annoying woman said, crossing her arms.
A soft snarl emitted from Siya as she looked at the three. Taking her sword she does a circle throwing it towads statesman. The red haired woman brings up her hand catching the sword in a gravity bubble quite easily and tossing it to the side.
Siya followed the sword her fist coming up to hit the man square between the eyes, fire streaks from all around her,"This will be short and sweet.."
White again blurs the view as nothing can be seen after her last words.
The glass shatters well as a figure goes flying from out the contents. A woman garbed in block and red, soars through the sky into a building opposite of the one she exited and falls to the ground with a thud. Siya slowly tried to prop herself up, it only took one hit! One! The markings on her arms slowly fade from red to black.
She tried to clear her thoughts, where was she? She slowly stood up looking around at the burning buildings and the different minions that ran around with crazed looks in their eyes. She was in the contaminated sector. But what was she doing there? How did she know that? Who was she?
She turned as a black man approached her, an eyepiece on his eye. he seemed intent on attack, she slowly stepped back,"Hi.. Where Am ... Look out!"
Behind the man a figure slowly rose up, bringing his hand up he sent out an electrical shock that went straight through the black man, bringing him to the ground. The man was alive, but barely. The radiation from the contiminated area was blocking the transcievers for the hospital to pick him up.
How did she know that?
She looked to the ground, for anything. She grabbed the piped and rushed the figure. The man seemed shocked that she was attacking him. She brought the pipe up, hitting him in the side. The figure hit the ground but before he collapsed he brought up an electrical volt into her that caused the woman to scream and fall down along side him.
"AHHHHHHH!" Siya set straight up in bed, drawing her dagger and holding it up to the air. Her body was denched in sweat. She was in her apartment, looking over Paragon city. She laid down the dagger and turned, standing up. She walked over to the window opening it - letting the cool air hit her skin. The change in temperature caused goosebumps to slowly form on her skin. She took a deep breath.
"A dream.. Just A dream. The same dream i've had for over 7 months now.. But.. Just a dream."
"What a day.. Finally reaching Security Level 14 and my sudden ability to increase my speed a hundred fold.." She walked into her bathroom, reaching down and splashing water in her face. She had been apart of several raids the night before, when she discovered her powers. The hero's were really starting to make a difference..
"Azuria was right.. Maybe one of the tokens we recovered did transfer some of it's powers to me.."
She looked into the mirror - even Azuria didn't believe the story when she told her that and siya knew it.
The celtic designs on her arms, black as they were, seemed to almost have a red tent now.
Somewhere in Paragon city a herald waited, quite content to simply watch the story unfold - for now. -
If you are looking for roleplayers on Virtue, Aurorae might be for you. We have different levels of roleplaying, since we also have a number of members that are new to RPing, but a requirement for joining our group is to stay in-character whenever you play. Some people prefer to let their character develop after having created him, and some like to have it all down before they start. Either way is fine, since we are all here for the roleplaying. You will be welcome to join, although the dark trend you spoke about will not... We are heroes, and we are good. If you are evil, then my character for one will attack you on the spot (he's very black/white about such things). But, perhaps something will happen that brings you back on track, or before you would like to join with another hero. In any case, feel free to contact me (Solarhaphaeriom) or Major Hazard ingame, or PM me here, or post on our site (see sig) boards if you are interested.

This guide is top notch. All these people trying to flame Robinson for stating fact clearly just have trouble with reality. This guide was even handed, non biasied and very helpful.
Thanks.
