Quote:This is also complicated by the fact that "superman" is itself a very generic term. "Shamrock Superman" could have claimed that his name was a reference to Nietzsche.A good example is one that I mentioned in the 'I grouped with Supergirl' post. (I talked to the individual involved at the time, and he said he didn't mind me discussing it.) I used to group fairly regularly with a character named 'Shamrock Superman'. His character was a tiny leprechaun-themed magic-origin tank with super-speed, invulnerability, and energy melee. His bio made mention of the fact that he was a leprechaun. He had no visual or thematic similarity whatsoever to a certain *other* Superman -- the most generic hero name possible. In other words, he was well shy of the '2/3' rule I mentioned above. He leveled to 50 without incident and played often.

Hey Posi, will GR support multi-core processors?

Quote:When bases were first announced, I imagined that they would be built using rooms and pieces from the mission maps. It would be a map editor that people could use to create their bases and place objects, items and stuff inside them. When MA first came out, I thought that maybe the same map editing dynamics I thought of for bases would be used for MA.3. Can we have our own map editor?
The creation of a map editor would require work on a scale greater than Mission Architect, so I'm going to go ahead and say that this will not happen. There are a lot of complications that would go into this - are the maps stored like bases? How would spawns work? How long would it take players to download the maps that are created? How big would we allow maps to be? These are just some of the initial questions that pop into my head, all of which don't have an easy answer - all of it would involve a major amount of work to get this in for Architect.
I think the MA devs and the base devs should get together and build a map editor that can be used for both bases and the MA system. This could be the "shot in the arm" that bases really need while also helping to improve the MA system (not that it needs that type of improvement, but it would be really cool.) If the devs are still worried about the limited use of bases, why not implement a "hero/villain apartment system" like what was talked about in the past? Then everyone can use the base editing system for their own characters and build lairs, hideouts and bases for their villains and heroes.
I understand that their will be the issue of taking up memory. We've seen this in the base and MA system already, but maybe it's time to work on server-side upgrades to the game that allow for a great deal of storage for each game account? I get over 7 gigabytes of storage on my G-mail account and that service is free. Hard drives will only come in the terabyte territory soon enough as well.
Anyway, I will understand if my suggestions are dismissed, I just think they'd be really cool. -
Is this Aeon Corp. couch supposed to cause a burning sensation where it touches my exposed skin? :S

What? No bug fixes for City of Villains?? DooooOOOooOOOoooOOOOoooom!! More proof the devs hate villains!

Quote:These are good wallpapers here. I'm using the Desdemona one on my PC right now and if it comes in the proper size (1366X768) then I will use it on my laptop as well.I'd like to see more Wallpapers, character renders, AT Specific logos and that sort of thing. A choice of forum/website banners/sigs/avatars would be nice too.
I'd also like to submit my own GR themed wallpapers for consideration: found here
Edit: Awww, not the right size for my lappy...Oh well, it's an unusual screen resolution... -

Quote:The devs said that shadows are only an outdoors thing, they won't be in any interior spaces.I've talked to Sunstorm, asked him to please post, give an update.
The bad news is that he's been kept busy and there's no base love on the horizon. He feels terrible about it, however.
There's a teeny-tiny, minuscule possibility that some of the reflection tech for GR will show up in the bases. The shadow-depth won't. -
Thank you for the bug fixes devs.

I would make it so that the costumes had the proper colours by default. My blood widow needs to look like a real blood widow and I spent a long time examining Kalinda to get the right colours. Paragon Wiki was useless because the screenshots were taken with graphics on super-duper-low, or else the screenshots were really old so the costumes and colours look absolutely nothing like they do now. My blood widow looks exactly like a real NPC blood widow now and she already has her night widow costume saved. I've given up trying to get the spider costume right, I can't figure that one out at all.
I would then make defaults for all the different types of costumes that are used with all the correct colours and costume pieces. i.e. a default blood widow you can choose, a default forunata you can choose, a default night widow you can choose, a default bane spider you can choose, a default arbiter you can choose, etc. I would also make it so that the default night widow waist cape doesn't have the ends of the Arachnos symbol on it so I can have the correct outline colour on my night widow's waist cape without four little pointy things ending abruptly ast her waist.
I would unlock all the widow and spider costume pieces for all the costume slots, not just the first one. Not as forced default or anything, just so I can mix the Arachnos costume parts with regular costume parts however I want. I could also have my first slot as blood widow, my second as night widow, etc. for example. The first one can still be a forced default Arachnos costume slot, I have no problem with that at all in any way.
I would actually put the last costume slot in the UI so we can actually edit it whenever we want. We deserve that extra slot because our first slot has to be Arachnos, so we should be able to edit that slot to our heart's content.
Add more Arachnos costume pieces that are in the game but unavailable to us VEATs. i.e. the little hood the wolf spiders use should be available to spider characters.
This is all I can think of right now, I want to see the costume creator for VEATs improved. -
I've been having horrid memory leak problems with CoH/V for a while now and I thought it was my slow, crappy computer. I've tried everything, even shutting down Windows Explorer (I'm using XP) while playing and that seems to help a little bit, but not enough.
The things that seem to cause it are loading screens and the market. I'm absolutely assured I'll get mapserved and the game will disconnect if I go to the market after a few hours of playing.
I can play the game for a few hours and then it will start getting sluggish. It gets almost unplayable after about six hours or so (not that I often play for that long. :P ) I think it's caused by loading screens, though I haven't tried staying in a single zone for a day to try that theory out. -
Quote:How do you know this? There is far, far more information out there on Cataclysm than Going Rogue. We know almost nothing on GR.Well, I do think that WoW has been upgraded quite a bit more than CoH, and I think Cataclysm is a much deeper overhaul than we'll see with Going Rogue.
I suspect you're right though, and I hope you are wrong. -
The ultimate CoH/V remake for me would be one with everything possible being the same, but remade to be better. Apply all the lessons the devs have learned to all the old city zones, update the graphics completely, maybe consolidate some zones into big mega zones (The Hollows/Perez Park mega zone?)
Maybe make this game City of Heroes Classic and keep offering a few servers for people who want to play it, and the remake City of Heroes Advanced. -
I reported this as a bug MONTHS ago. I remember doing it during an Ourobourous arc, but I can't remember what mission or arc it was.

I bet that means he thought they'd let him say one thing, but it turns out they'll let him say three things...
-
There are rumours that a new Marvel Online is getting made now.
-
Did you have to walk uphill both ways to visit the trainer ever level?
-
Prolly because the new expansion coming out will completely redesign the game. The same might be said for Going Rogue however, we'll see during Hero Con I guess.
-
Quote:Hahahaha! That was the funniest thing I've read all day. These things take time to organize - setting up Hero Con ain't like dustin' crops, boy! Without precise calculations they could drive right through a Star Trek convention, or bounce too close to a furry gathering and that'd end the trip real quick, wouldn't it?
Great stuff.

Quote:My scrapper and my stalker both feel pretty heroic. I love it when I wade into a group of guys and hit Assassin's Blade BAM! guy dead, Soaring Dragon and Gambler's Cut BAM! guy dead, Sting of the Wasp, Divine Avalanche, Flashing Steel BAM! guy dead.Yes they are right. you feel unique and different but not quite heroic. at least i don't. thats the reason my main toons are a fire/kin troller and a mastermind, i get to feel like i own the battlefield ina gamestyle i like.
Maybe not a remake but definately major improvements.
Maybe you just need to use inspirations more often or upgrade your enhancements? -
Quote:The article isn't bashing CoH, the forum posts responding to the article seem to express a huge amount of hate for CoH.The article doesn't really articulate why CoH needs a remake, nor it seem to bash the game. It basically says the game is old and newer games are coming out. A valid concern, but the market is big enough for more than one superhero MMO.
With Going Rogue just around the corner I'm not sure a remake/sequel is warranted.
Most people agree that CoH shouldn't be on the list, but there also seems to be a large number of people who love to say negative things about the game... -
Quote:Ghost Widow: "What makeup?" (/The IT Crowd reference.)Ghost Widow or Silver Mantis?
Redside demands equal representation in silly forum discussions! Or we'll come to your house when you're not home and wreck up the place.
Edit: Besides, Arakhn is wearing a mask. Laaaazy.
Edit again: And are Clamor's fishnets stapled to her legs? What happens when they get a rip? How does she get into fishnets in the first place with a giant claw for a hand? Inquiring minds want to know. -
So I was reading MMORPG.com today and I found the article "The Top 5 MMOs That Ned Remakes" and I was surprised to see City of Heroes was number 3 on the list!
"OK," I thought, "that's an interesting choice." I really don't think this game is anywhere past its prime yet, there has been lots of good stuff added to this game over the years and things are just improving.
Here is the article: http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/feature/3590 CoH is on the second page. Here is the forum post: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/254846 So many negative comments...
Edit: What really gets me is how negative people are being on the forums about CoH. I don't think this game warrants that much bashing. Are they people paid shills for Cryptic? Hey, it's happened before. Maybe CoH killed their dogs? Posi and BaBs will have to apologize for that one. -
I think one big way the devs can fix the base stagnation is by offering the player apartments that are sometimes mentioned and using the same editing tool as bases (hopefully new and improved though) and the same items as bases (but a much larger selection.)
