Quote:I picked the powers section since it is technically teleportation via technology. As for as pms those hardly get answered or responded to, and if they do its usually like 6 months from now. Just for the record /bug doesnt do squat because these are things along with alot of other stuff I have bugged in the past that never get addressed. Oh but let this be something badge related the servers get brought down immediately and a hotfix is applied. The LGTF (and instanced shadow shard) maps need to be fixed. I'm really tired of things vanishing on them - seems to throw off pet and npc AI, too.
As for the portal? Yes, the IP one is odd like that. So's the one in Pocket D, for me - it doesn't show up unless (and sometimes even if) I'm right on it.
However, this should *probably* be in a different section, and/or PM'd to a redname. -
You know the one I am talking about, its in IP right by the hospital. Half the time it just disappears from view when you get close to it, but from far off you can see it. What gives? Its just like that how the bridge in the last mission of the LGTF disappears. I know its not only me because I have asked several other players about this and they confirm the disappearing base portal.

To me its all going to depend on if they allow us to pair the set with shields or not. If they do then yeah I will reroll a few but if they dont then I am not going to bother with it. I just wish they would go back and allow for sets like claws and dual blades to have shields. I have always wanted to make a Kratos homeage toon but you cant get dual blades and shields.

Quote:This is why I say we need a do over on pet AI. They need to seperate critter AI from pets. Pets should not show mercy for any pc/npc but they do if something gets knocked down. Its highly annoying especially when you know they got attacks. I can understand not attacking slept targets, that part they can keep but all the other mezzes should not stop them from attacking. Maybe in issue 30 they might finally hire someone who can take a look at it.Too many non-programmers post about AI code. People who aren't programmers should have the good sense to not talk about code, about how hard or easy something would be to implement because you don't know what your talking about. If you don't know what your talking about you shouldn't be talking about it. Common sense, right there.
AI code doesn't have to be that complex, and in this game, its probably nothing more then a few paragraphs of text. I've written AI code for other games before. (Quake, actually, sure its dated but it was far more complex than this game's AI).
Understand this: Video game AI is not like making a *REAL* AI at all. People confuse the two it seems because they equate video game ai as being similarly challenging. Its not. Video game AI is extremely limited and usually quite simple. It doesn't have to be very complex.
Our pet AI sucks because the programmers got extremely lazy and we get to pay for it, and thats the truth of the matter. They probably copied most of the pet ai from the regular mob ai and added a few lines here and there for some mm specific stuff. The code is obviously very bad because the AI is filled with special cases like fleeing from fire and other stuff that overrides more reasonable actions.
Anyone whos actually done even a little bit of game programming -- however amatuer -- should be able to pretty much imagine what this code looks like without any difficulty, programming isn't any sort of mysticism, its very logical and straightforward once you are familiar with the language.
The pet ai isn't a deal breaker for me, but it does irritate me everytime I play the game, which shouldn't happen. I buy my subs year at a time, and even when F2P comes out that won't change anything for me... its not like I'm going to rage quit after all these years or anything. Its just very annoying and I wish they would just spend the time to fix it and instantly make every MM (and other pet classes) happy. -
Quote:^^^^This omg this. Its why I stopped playing trollers and masterminds so much. I can put up with doms since you do great damage outside of pets but the other 2 just arent worth it. When this change actually happened I knew without a doubt the devs were not in touch with how their own game actually works. Or at least the powers team.Don't worry. It's on the list: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=255708
Actually, you can still worry, since I have serious doubts anything will be done to fix these long standing AI issues. Also, as stated, melee/range doesn't matter. If a henchmen doesn't have an attack to use the henchmen will by default run into melee range. This was made worse by the recharge changes in pet AI because many henchmen don't have seamless ranged or melee attack chains. The bitter irony is the justification of taking away recharge was that it was supposed to solve AI issues. >:| -
Quote:Dont remind me, I remember how bad it was. I stopped playing mm's till they fixed it. It totally sucked to have another mm hijack your pets especially when your getting beat on at the time.Personally I think the AI has improved a little bit since CoV was launched. At least the pets don't "freak out" any more when some other MM's henchmen in another room or the mission's ally get's attacked. However it is still annoying when you have pets that wont attack due to stuff like Oil Arrow igniting and they all run away as far as they can from it and just stand there.

Gonna just use HOs so I only need 2 slots. The other slots can go towards attacks now that I have endurance to use them.

Looking at the dc vs marvel perspective its easier for the dc heroes because they do not have to deal with prejudice on such a huge scale compared to marvel. Also with dc there are more interplanetary threats than marvel where most of the stuff is just parts of the earth where the action happens. Marvels characters perticularly the mutants would get the respec they deserve if they were not wrote into the same situation over and over again with the whole prejudice thing. Its like they are trying to keep shoe horning the marvel characters into the worst part of our history when racism and such was at its peak. Also if there were more things on the scale of darksied, brainiac, parrallax going in the marvel universe the people would feel they have a need for the heroes. True enough there is the potential to have an anti-hero group like cadmus in marvels universe if the heroes united like the way the justice league did to save the world I do not think it would be as extreme because almost no marvel characters are on the same level as superman.
-
The problem with superman is that they just made him too powerful. It pretty much means they have to lean on the kryptonite plot device over and over. See smallville and that other super hero game. I think if supermans power levels were never so high to begin with it would have been alot easier to write for this character.

yes you can do it but its not worth it, of course its always going to be at a huge mark down compared to if you just left it on your character. You come out better just playing that character on a trial to get whatever salvage.

Quote:I am kind of worried about burn. Last time I played fire armor was back in issue 1. After they changed it to make everything run from it I stopped playing fire. Dont get me wrong I know it was overpowered back then having your own portable rotisserie oven but I was hoping the devs would have made some sort of compromise on it since then. If it means I have to get an immobilize just to make it work I am not sure if I can go with fire again.Burn and Fiery Embrace are irreplaceable. If you want top notch AoE and ST damage, it's the way to go.
You can make a SS/Fire pretty tough in addition to its unrivaled damage. I believe it's the only melee character to solo the STF thus far. For incarante trials you'll likely have some sort of outside buffs, plus there are always inspirations. -
Quote:Good question, what I plan on doing with the farming character is tip missions set for 8 people. I avoid annoying factions like malta and carnies but thats because I havent found a build that works against them 100% of the time. Electric seems more like what I want to do only because I might want to take those character thru the incarnate stuff provided that they fix the 10 threads thing even though I worked my butt off just as hard as the next person, at some point in time. Since those tend to be energy and psi heavy electric seems better for this. Can brutes get 90% resists to electric without tier 9 or thats only under tier 9?Welll.....I'm not so sure....
EvilRyu, what are you planning to purp farm? AE fire maps won't work, and running endless council gets...old.
If you plan to do all-round stuff, any non-tanker on fire aura is going to be delicate. I'd be looking at a ss/elec/soul brute at a minimum. Toxic is more rare at L50 than psi, outside of the Apex sewer run from hell.
Oh, and no scrapper is going to be able to compete in this sort of evaluation, so I hope you like fury. -
I am looking for player opinions based on actual game play experience and numbers. What I am trying to do is create one character for purple farming and another for extreme single target burst damage (killing stuff in the fewest hits possible). The things I am unsure about are the powersets to do this best with and if if both of these can actually be 1 character. If there are any threads already on the subject please list them as thats good reading to help with making the best decisions on this.
My main questions are which will give you more damage potential via farming a damage aura or a +damage aura like what shields has, basically killing entire groups as fast as possible. Next should I do this character as a brute if I take the damage aura resists set so that fury can add to it since no damage auras get crits as far as I know or will the higher base damage of a scrapper work better? Next question is what primary to do this with.
Requirements for the characters
Can only be a scrapper or brute
Can not be a powerset that has a fugly primary or secondary- meaning no spines, stone armor, or ice armor.
Survivability is a must, what good is being a farmer if you die ever spawn.
Plan it around the alpha slot to maximize the slotting potential.
Long term goal to pick something that has good synergy with the other tier 4 incarnate abilities.
Can handle lvl 50 x8 missions without even breaking a sweat. Does not have to be +4s since I play at +0 difficulty most of the time speed things along. -
I recently got my claws/wp scrapper to 50 a few days ago. I can say without a doubt its a fun character. What I did to make it good is maximizing followup. I got it slotted 3 acc/dam HO with to 2 tohit recharge/HO and I plan on going with the spiritual alpha that gives the tohit/recharge bonus, in the last slot I have a chance for build up proc. It goes off alot when you have 50+% recharge bonuses from sets. I also have the proc in focus as well. And when they both proc its nice. I just can not ever see playing a brute again unless the set is paired with a damage aura because then it would make up for it with fury. Since your not going with a damage aura set, do it as a scrapper.

SG transfers? finally I can move my sg off of virtue to another server. Positron what about doing a sg rename? Thats something I been wanting since I have inherrented like 3 SGs over the years since many of those players stopped playing.
-
Maybe instead of being ebil start being gude instead? Being gude means selling at the lowest price possible thats above what the other ebil people are buying for because you want to give your fellow players a break. Purchase things only with the inf you earn via missions and npc kills. By only spending money generated thru combat is the only way to take the ebil out of it. If you do those things your on your way to being gude.

Pets have been borked ever since the recharge buff changes. Its kind of to the point where I barely play masterminds or controllers now because it just isnt worth dealing with the frustrations of it all. I think at this point there needs to be a code over haul for pets. Pet ai or script needs to be seperated from critter AI/script and make it follow or do its own thing. Alot of what I been seeing is pets doing the run away ai thing like they are getting scared to fight at times just like the critters. Maybe with all the upcoming changes we can buy some pets that actually work with the paragon points.

Quote:I feel sorry for you, because the ones your playing tend to be the most boring ATs in the game due to horrible damage most of the time. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has this problem
I've been playing the game on and off for 6 years and every time I come back, all I want to play are defenders/controllers/corruptors. Nothing else I make gets past level 10 before deletion.
Considering how much customization is available to me I almost feel guilty for not exploring moreBut I can't be the only one, can I?
-
This is good stuff to note, for slotting. I am always trying to get the most out of the slots especially since the alpha slot came out. Any combinations you can think of with HO's and the alpha slot?
-
I dont see it happening anytime soon™, more like never™. See how long it took for the cathedral of pain to get implemented and bases still never got the loving they were promised many issues ago. I would love to see cross server instances so then it wont matter if you have characters on dead servers in the event you could not move them due to financial reasons.

Quote:I would rather have so called overpowered self buffing empaths that ignore the teammates than players who totally skip the ally buffs simply because they do not work solo. I just do not see it happening that way because the way the empathy buffs work, they do more for the tanks/scrappers/brutes/stalkers than they do for everyone else. So anyone choosing to buff themselves instead of their teammates would be an idiot anyways. So in either case it would not be good to team with them anyways.Actually, with that amount of damage, recharge and recovery buffage and something like Sonic you probably are.
Plus "taking down GMs and AVs" isn't the metric the game is balanced around, in any way shape or form anyway, it's how it'd affect the other 99.9% of the game (the bit where the rewards are) which is more important.
The main reason I'd be against "self buffing" is that it'd lead to a plethora of self-buffing Empaths power multiplying themselves and ignoring their team-mates.
I'd only like to see any form of self-buff be a non-stacking side effect of applying to buff to someone or something else. -
Quote:Most npcs do not have toggles most of them are clicks that work like toggles. Of the few that actually are toggles they have a set time duration kind of like the butchered phase shift power. Look at a group of mobs that spawn together that use debuffs or buffs. You will never see 2 Tsoo sorcerers that are from the same spawn point use the same debuff at the sametime. They always alternate. Same with the witches that do hurricane or the CoT ghosts. This doesn't make much sense. Dr Aeons bubble is a toggle shield or self-buff, like the myriad of toggle shields we already have in the game. There's no "self targetting" involved, he just activates a power.
If the game was being designed now then yep, i'd agree with the idea of "let us target ourselves", but the no-self-targeting has been a feature of the Cryptic engine for years now and I'd imagine (like things like reflecting damage) it'd be near impossible to patch in now.
I'd be all for adding a secondary buff to yourself (not at full strength though) but I'm not sure how you'd get it to work solo. Fudge it in some way so that you could use an enemy/corpse to bounce it off perhaps, it wouldn't buff them, just provide a target for the power to fire off. Or some sort of pseudopet summon inherent power which is only there to use as a target dummy for the self-buff portion of the power.
