I ain't moving my toons to union just for PvP, to many awesome people on defiant. But i should have my scrapper at level 50 to fall back on

    Set Trouble

I'd advise making a Fire blast/ Dark Miasma Corrupter. Those guys are pretty damn insane in PvE, and one of the best corrupter builds for PvE. Lay down Tar Patch hit rain of fire, fireball and firebreath-dead mob. Not to mention fantastic damage mitigation and a back up self heal. The main problem with Fire/Dark is endurance, however it is definately manageable.
  5. PvE way i see it for an illusion/storm is that superior invis is an optional power as you already have steamy mist, coupled with superspeed is completely invisible. Steamy mist also gives nice resistances to elemental damage and costs less endurance, so for PvE i'd give superior invis a miss.

Key Powers I use with my stormy

Snow Storm- really nice to keep mobs grouped and nice for damage mitigation- 2 end redux
    Steamy Mist-great resistances 3 res/2end redux
Freezing Rain-most commonly used power its just [censored] awesome.3recharge 2endredux
Hurricaine-situational, mainly used against AVs and for herding which is done if i have support behind me. 3tohitdebuff 2end redux
Lightning Cloud: Really Nice damage in PvE, great when used positionally after a herd in corners, although damage may not be what it used to be, this thing racks up quite a few kills. 3damage 2recharge 1endredux

Sometimes use Thunder clap for the stacking disorients and Tornado for AVs.

I'd recommend getting acrobatics and aid self, nothing more annoying than getting knocked over with hurricaine, aid self gives you more survivability.

    Sonic/Rad?

I've been thinking about a sonic/rad for PvP for all the stacking -res. It should be very very good. Only problem is the animation times.
  7. Read this on US boards about a dominator who teamed with a rad corrupter and managed to stack domination with AM +hasten, now this is definately interesting for a dominator, as if domination stacks, they've certainly gone way up in my books. Not to mention it was a */fire dominator so double dom + FE, wow just wow!!

    Anyone experienced this??
  8. Fire/Storm is just fantastic. I also highly suggest Fire/Trick arrow-that set has some serious controlling/damage potential.

    Very Interesting Link!
  10. Go Aid Other + Aid self, the numbers are simply to low for tough, not to mention the endurance cost. Aid self is more reliably and gives you more survivability imo.

    Perma Frost

If you go PvP i'd advise picking up perma frost for the slow res. Slows stack, and one of the best tricks about ice is that it has multiple slow res's to counter stacking slows.

Fantastic choice of tune aswell! Nas=legend

Hi there people, new, old, clueless and confuzzled.

I have just read a post where a friend was talking about how, many blasters do not take both Aim and Build Up. I've also run into a lot of blasters in game without one or both of these powers.

I'd just like to say that if Aim and Build Up are in your sets (they aren't in Assault Rifle or Devices) then to maximise your potential as glass cannon, you need these powers. These are all about doing more damage more often, and for many blasters, damage is all you have (utility is discussed elsewhere I know).

I played a blaster for a few months without Build Up when I started a few years ago and was amazed when I got it and slotted it. I didn't pick up Aim for about 9 months and I never regretted anything so much, and I was very happy indeed with the benefits it brought.

I recommend slotting both of these powers with 3 recharge reduction enhancements, and if you plan to PvP, add as many to hit enhancements as you can spare. Try and fit these powers in before too many levels go by, 15 is very early, while the early 20s is sensible, by 30 these powers really should be part of your build.

[EDIT in response to a quick reply]: These powers boost damage and accuracy the same proportion of base values at all levels, so where, for example, Build Up boosts your damage in the mid to late game from around 195% (enhanced) to 295%, at level 12 or so the values would be boosted from around 120% (enhanced) to 220%, a far greater proportional reward at earlier levels indeed.[/Edit]

I hope this post will help make many new and existing blasters mash more and more foes into the ground ever before, and allow blasters as an AT to outdamage scrappers, it is the one the deities of CoH intended it to be.

    Plight

P.S. A kind note to all of the freedom of build types who do not wish people to follow cookie cutters. Aim and Build Up are in nigh on every blaster set; blasters do damage, people enjoy the game more when they die less and they die less with builds that have optimised function. If you want to create a concept toon without these 2 powers then go for it and good luck, but if you are new to CoH or blasting, or feel that your blaster is underperforming, these are 2 very quick fix powers to get into your attack cycles.

    Brute for PvP?

    Energy/Energy
    Energy/Elec
    Energy/Fire

    Pick one,their all very good.
  16. Completely forgot about def penalty on invincibility, so tough hide is a good idea.

Invincibility is one which is definately not needed for a scrapper, seriously from my experience in PvP, your not going to have that many people around you and after you. Unless you plan on fighting mms all the time, just don't bother with it, its just an extra strain on endurance.
  17. hehe sorry about that i tend to rush through posts when i'm tired. When it comes down to it, i really just don't agree with slotting CJ/hover/picking up the fighting pool on a blaster. I slot for movement, thats my playstyle a lot of people may disagree with me, but from my experience i do very well in PvP and this is mainly due to movement. IMO movement is the best defence a blaster can have.

Spines/super reflex is just a fantastic build, compared to my spines/regen i feel squishier but the damage output on spines/sr is just fantastic because of quickness. I have lots of tricks up my sleave and with a back up aid self, i can be hard to take down. I'm only level 30, but don't have any troubles in PvP zones at all, mainly here complaints about me moving all the time. :P

Can't wait for level 50 arena PvP, i made a spines/sr originally during the RV event and he did very very well. For blasters with aim/bu, best thing to do is get out of blap range and use range attacks on them.

SR defence without elude, is pretty pants in PvP. a lot of attacks get past my defences(haven't got passives yet still PvE build) but with some decent support buffer behind me, i'm an unstoppable force

Defence values from sherksilver so might be wrong.

    3slotted toggles: 23.5%defence melee/range
    3slotted toggles+passives: 30.4% defence melee/rang

My PvP defence w/o elude (toggles +passives + base def CJ):32.3% defence melee/range

Total defence with elude:102.5%defence melee/range and 72.1%defence to AoE

I don't run AoE defence, just don't need it as its effected positionally. So i use my own positioning to counter AoEs.

lol i don't have to try it to say its daft, first thing i see is you using 5pool powers, your only allowed to use one. Out of those 4 pool powers listed, you don't have fitness say goodbye to prolonged fights, for what? for measily defences. Your also wasting a huge number of slots for low values of defence. Which if you make the actual build i bet there will be places where your lacking in slots, most probably damage. Oh not to mention your running those toggles with no stamina? Good luck with that.

By all means give it a try, its a different thought, just make sure you do it on test server.

Edit: Power boost only boosts the base value. not the enhanced value

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *sigh* nice reading there buddy.

In the OP I discussed the 5 power pools (and put it in my maths)
In the OP i discussed the Power Boost unenhanced-ness (and that's why the final is 62%, not 70% - which I've ALSO stated since)

I DO take your point about Stamina though. Might have to drop one pool, probably hover, to get Fitness. Although running Conserve and enough endred slots, could prob make it work at a stretch.

I dont think slots would be a problem. Anything I'd be taking out would be at least 3 slotted, so the new additions would simply inherit those.
Im gunna have to get on a heroplanner to see if this actually work.
But also as my OP said, this was just a "Musing" not a "zomg this is gunna womp all ur puny foo's you shud all respec to 'dis".
It was just to show it COULD be done, and maybe make people look twice at Ice Epic, since every PvP Tom, Rick and Harry seems to be going Force or Elec.

Oh, and Dominators or Controller EPICS could also get Power Boost and a Defense armour as well so.......

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm quoting from fact, whats the point in fitting in 5 pools in your maths when you can't?

Conserve and end redux wouldn't be enough imo.

Well post your build with slots and take a look see.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You know theres other things in the ice epic that make it such a great set for PvP, hibernate and snowstorm for example. You know half the french players use ice epic? its their "fotm". Ice epic is a very very strong set because of hibernate and snow storm, i've incorporated it into my ice/devices build. Why more people don't go ice epic i don't know its probably on boards everyone has just said how uber elec epic is. Fact is i rank ice epic over elec. Problem with ice epic is the defence based armour. Force is known as the best because of pff and force of nature not to mention the great armour, all of these make it a very very strong set.

I just can't agree with the notion of making ice epic "viable" by slotting hover and CJ with defences and taking fighting pool, when its already such a great epic.

  20. Sorry for getting to this late, heres my thoughts.

    Power choices:

Drop invincibility, its not needed in PvP.
Drop tough hide, the defence values are to low on it.
    Take hurdle over health.
Pick up hasten and superspeed over these two powers for some movement and faster recharge on your attacks.
Drop energy torrent and get laser beam eyes, seriously energy torrent costs a lot of endurance and does very low damage, laser beam eyes costs less endurance and does more damage. You already have knockback/knockdown control tools from focus and shockwave.

    Slotting:
    Follow up: 2acc 3recharge 1tohitbuff.
Attacks generally, slot 2acc 3 damage 1 recharge, claws is low endurance cost so you can get away with that. Then again i would say use your experience if its an end heavy set use end redux in your attacks.
Don't slot health with heal slots, just don't. Hurdle i'd go for and stick 3jumps on it, along with combat jumping 3 jumps. Seriously you should try on test server superspeed and 3CJ/hurdle, its just incredible.
Slot unstoppable 3recharge 3 damage res.
Slot yout toggles with 2end redux.
I personally wouldn't slot Strike at all, you'll have a constant attack chain with follow up filling in gaps, without strike, so i wouldn't slot it.

My knowledge of invul is pretty limited first hand. Claws from my experience of the RV event, but i'm just throwing in some key PvP basics into your build, which should be applied onto most builds which is emphasis on movement.

Best person to ask for claws/invul for slotting would have to be dawnie, she knows her stuff
  21. Ahh never knew that about psionic, very interesting. Now that i take a look at it closer it does seem right as a base indication. It doesn't take into account pool powers though eg. an SR with aid self has its survivability is greatly increased. But it is fairly obvious SR doesn't cope well with high number of mobs. 9th tier powers also do seperate greatly distance the sets.

I am quite suprised at invulnerability's high survivability.
  22. Don't agree with some of it.

Why does SR have a lower value for psionic, when its positional and not typed defence????
  23. Teams- doesn't have any soft control, so it lacks.
    Duals- its great.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
There is one but you have to think of the TEAM as a whole, here is mine:

    [ QUOTE ]
Brute: Dark Melee/Stone Armour - DM is awesome in PvE, awesome in PvP 'nuff said, the heroes will 'fear you' :P. Stone - the roughest, toughest there is - what can hurt a mountain? nothing. What can a mountain hurt? nothing. What can move a mountain? nothing. says it all.

Corruptor: Assault Rifle/Traps - ever seen what FULL AUTO does to a Granite Tank? That you should see, what Full Auto does to a Granite Tank you should see; the thing shreds heroes. Traps - one word: Time Bomb. What is good in PvE becomes awesome in PvP, Traps is worth it for this one power.

Dominator: Gravity/Psionic - damage all the way. Your team manages to corner a difficult controller? slap on Dimension Shift - "game over dude" a good one for high damage teams. Psionic - Drain Psyche - fighting a Granite Tank again? if they've got no Endurance, they've got no toggles, it's like an 'I win' button for villains.

Mastermind: Necromancy/Traps - 'you cannot kill what does not truly live' good one if you like to stay at range. Traps - two words: Force Field Generator - possibly the best Mezz buff for villains in the game, especially if you have superspeed as a travel power.

Stalker: Ninja Blade/Regen - Ninja Blade was probably optimised for PvP and if you play with a Ninja Mastermind you can disguise yourself as a henchman - deception is your cheapest toggle :P. Regen - yes it's overpowered, yes you'll get complaints for using it from Heroes, but there's a reason it rules in PvP: head and shoulders above the other secondaries.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Damn that team needs nerfage, wouldn't want to meet that team
  25. red's don't give a tohit buff

Edit: Oh and those defence values are worthless, you'll also be wasting valuable slots.

Edit2: Snow storm doesn't do -jump.
