Quote:For all the bad things World of Warcraft does, they do compensate downtime. This is a perfectly reasonable request... they can extend the account time by 2-5 days, or simply add paragon points with their new system, and in turn probably get us to purchase more points. While I sympathize- theres no way in hell you'll get it. No MMO is going to open that pandora's box, nor should they. Is it inconvient? Hell yes. But at the end of the day, it's a game. It's not a staple necessary for living. Do you play EVERY day of that 30 month sub? Most don't. You pay for access to the game. However, these are physical mechanical devices and sometimes they need off time for repair/maintenance/upgrades etc. It happens, it's not the norm, so enough already.
PS: Please don't turn this into a conversation about World of Warcraft. I'm just saying that other MMORPGs absolutely compensate for unreasonable downtime. It isn't 'opening pandora's box' or some forbidden thing no one does.
I'm not going to be upset if they don't, but it is annoying. I get up early in the morning so when the game is down so much I'm hit by the majority of it. This isn't much fun. -
Are you talking about new characters for the patch?
I had reserved "Temporal Girl" before the issue was released, and to be honest I was surprised it wasn't taken.
I didn't save any others, though I'll be setting up and designing my street justice tanker before much longer. (I still can't decide on a primary, but it will probably just be invulnerability. I don't want willpower, shield, or super reflexes for this tanker, and even not including those, invulnerability seems like the best fit...) -
I got disconnected from Virtue, and trying to log in has given me "DBserver is down" error messages and other things, after waiting 2-3 minutes for the game to stop freezing, where I am booted to the log in screen.
I haven't tried every other server, but I can confirm that at least some other servers appear to be working. The one I tried was Union.
Edit: It appears to only be my redside characters, I'll try to confirm this by testing my other characters as well.
Edit 2: It actually only appears to be a single character... why would it do this? This character is an Arachnos soldier, if that matters.
Edit Final: I am told that it is the Cap Diable zone that is down, and anyone with characters there have been having trouble logging in. If this could be fixed I would appreciate it, but I mostly just want to report this.
Edit:This was eventually fixed, but hopefully this won't become regular... -
Quote:There's no need to be hostile about this. I wasn't aware that this topic had been 'done to death'.This topic has been done to death.
The devs have said that the Server Transfer Token is a gift. As such, they're under no obligation to give you anything else. If you don't want it, simply don't use it.
I was making a suggestion I thought would be beneficial to the game, but apparently I was wrong.
Regardless though, it is not a 'gift'. We're paying for it as part of our VIP subscription. If it were a gift, everyone would get it for free. -
Why not, instead of only giving us the option of 1 transfer per month, let us choose between 1 transfer, 1 rename, 1 power respec token, or 2 character slots?
Transfers generally aren't very useful to people on a monthly basis, but additional character slots definitely would be. We could progressively make new characters each month to keep things interesting. Likewise, players tend to change power setups every now and then, and a respec token would be useful. A rename token is an extra option for those interested, as the transfer should also be.
This is just my two cents, though... I personally have no use for transfers whatsoever, and likely will never use them, but I could and would use the other ones. -
Thank you for your advice. I feel a little better about beam rifle. I'm still not sure what I want to do yet, but I might give it a try.
-
These powersets are very similar in that they both focus on single target damage, and I've heard nothing but bad things about beam rifle. My question is whether beam is currently better than ice, or if ice is better all around.
I know that ice offers a lot of control and utility, beam rifle does not appear to offer much in the way of that. I am well aware that ice has more control and very likely more utility, but does it do more damage as well? Does beam rifle offer more AOE damage? These are the kind of things I am curious about.
If it matters, I will be going ice/ice or beam/devices. I have specific character concepts and builds up already for both. So feel free to compare /ice to /devices as well.
Does beam have any redeeming value for blasters or is it really as bad as they say? I know it's still a bit early to be asking these kinds of questions, but I like the beam rifle a lot. I simply don't want to play a broken/terrible powerset, and regret it at higher levels. I don't hate ice though or anything -- I'm perfectly fine with continuing to play with that instead. -

Quote:Is the main issue with /poison, then, that it lacks AOE?My Demons/Poison MM is up to level 35, and so far the best power in my secondary is a cone slow. That's it . . . a cone slow. I understand that some changes have been made for the controller version to make it a bit more AoE, but there are too many single-target only powers to make it effective.
Most of my character names are jokes or puns of some kind, but I will be breaking away from that for my Ill/Time's name. I chose a famous quote by Albert Einstein that is just perfect: "Time is an Illusion." Even Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy spoofed it when one of the characters said, "Time is an Illusion, Lunchtime doubly so."
As for names, to be honest... I'm not exceptionally creative with names, but I have spent hours trying to think up acceptable ones before. Quite frankly, I am ecstatic I was able to get such a catchy name before anyone else, on my first try. The quote about Einstein is very clever though! I would not have thought of that. -
I think this is a great idea!
I have an idea though! How about making an architect mission based on Hoverboard racing? Is it possible to have no enemies, but a clickable item at the end of the stage? This would be even more interesting since the level is randomly generated, and there's no feasible way they could cheat.
What do you think? Could this work?
PS: If you felt especially evil, you could even make it so the switch spawned an overwhelming amount of enemies that would kill everyone who was behind. (:< -
I just returned to the game, so I could probably work well with this. I'll wait for the official explanation so that I can appropriately respond to it with all of my characters.
-
I think they want new players to pay for VIP access, or use premium to get a taste, and for higher end players who quit playing to come back since they get a lot of the features VIP players get.
I don't have any real opinion on this since it won't be changing how I play, really... if I'm interested in CoH, I will buy a subscription, if not, it will be premium and I doubt I will be playing it.
I enjoy CoH a lot right now, though, so I can't see myself dropping VIP any time soon! -
Quote:I apologize, I did not mean that Illusion is all about pets and damage. I couldn't find the right words, but I meant that it was completely different from Plants. Illusion is very much different from the average controller primary set up (roots, AE roots, one pet, et cetera). If you want to get some details on Illusion, take a look at my Ill/Rad guide, linked in my sig. It fully explains the Illusion powers, gives some strategy tips and has lots of information on slotting.
Illusion is not "all about pets." It is all about distraction in place of hard controls. It is a good set for single target damage, can solo or team easily and is very flexible. Illusion is well known for being one of the best sets in the game against single hard targets like AVs or GMs. However, it does not have much AoE damage and makes a poor farmer. The combo with Time should be very interesting . . . Even though I already have 4 Illusion/* controllers at 50, I have already researved my name for my Ill/Time controller.
Plant, on the other hand, is better at AoE rather than single target. It is a bit of a "one-trick pony" that relies heavily on Seeds of Confusion, but it does that one trick very well. I know that Plant/Storm is a great combo . . . I have one that I'm working on, after already taking Plant/Rad and Plant/Kin to 50. I'm not sure that Plant/Poison will be that great in gameplay (although the concept works). I have a Demons/Poison MM I'm working on, and I'm really unimpressed with Poison . . . I'm not planning to role one up myself.
You're probably right about seeds of confusion... but it's just so much fun! It was, honestly, a big part of why I chose that powerset. If you say poison is really bad, I will take your word on it and not reroll my plants controller just yet. I am going to see how the community responds to /poison before making that choice. I kind of agree, I guess ... it doesn't look tremendously powerful.
By the way, I also have my name reserved. To my surprised, Temporal Girl was not taken! So I reserved it in advance.Several other time-related names were not taken either, but Temporal Girl just has a nice ring to it. But, I digress!
-
Fair enough! I might even be interested in Titan weapons -- but I won't purchase both. So I guess, in a sense, it's good that it will take some time to come out. Maybe I will get some information on Titan Weapons by then. ... Street Justice still looks more fun, though.
-
I am just wondering how complete the powerset 'street justice' is, and when it will be released.
I find that powerset to be very interesting, and would like to create a tanker with it as a secondary. -
Quote:I may keep my plants/storm later if that combo is really good. To be honest I have not reached a point yet where I have felt the need to bother with invention origins (Besides getting 25 and 30+ origins so I don't have to keep replacing them), so I know next to nothing about set bonuses. The most I know is that ragnarok sells for 750,000,000... and I was pretty happy to sell it.Pick your poison
On a more serious note, /Time is more team friendly. It actually seems overpowered at first glance - and it probably is. /Poison is more ST centered.
I'll advise against giving up on your stormy because that combo is simply beasty, especially after IOs. So, why not keep your Plant/Storm and roll an Ill/Time?
My plant controller is called 'Viridian Spirit', a faerie-like character that has control over nature, plants is a given, and at the time storm was the best fit. Poison, however, seems like a better fit all things considered.
If you think Storm summoning is better with plants, I am definitely all ears. Please, tell me more! You also didn't speak much about Illusion. I don't know much about it, besides the flavor (pets, spectral damage, not as much control) so if you have something to share, I'd like that, too!
I can link my current build for plant/storm, but it is without set bonus enhancements, it would be more about which abilities I took and at which level, since I'll inevitably respec at maximum level once I start getting set enhancements. Illusion/time I don't have a spec for yet, for obvious reasons, same with plant/poison.
Sorry for the long reply, and if you have anything else to add I'd very much appreciate it! -
I know these are completely different powersets, plants being about control, illusion being about pets, poison being more about debuffs than buffs.
I am also aware that time might be leaps and bounds better than poison.
Still... I'm curious what people think of this. How do you think they will compare? I know I could just make both, but until I have some level 50's I don't want to focus on more than one powerset combination per archetype.
Right now I have a gravity/energy dominator, actually my namesake, Ethereal Star, and I wouldn't mind something a little different on the other side. Likewise I have a pistols/kinetic corrupter. My defender is empathy and my mastermind force fields, so I do not have any debuffing support powersets really. And plenty of other characters, I won't list them all here though.
Both powersets interest me, though, and I've having a hard time choosing. I haven't experienced either secondary, but I have experience with Illusion and Plants, both are quite fun.
Which one is more powerful does matter to me a little, as if one was groundbreakingly powerful or ridiculously weak, I would take the better/viable one, but I don't care about small differences or simply different playstyles.
One thing I am curious about Time and Poison is that both have -regen. It's not why they interest me, but I've noticed since I've played that this is very useful (irradiation) against Arch Villains or so I have been told. How strong is the -regen for these powersets? Is it enough to matter?
Can anyone give me advice or recommendations to help me choose between these? Thank you for your time.
PS: I am not really interested in mixing these, such as plants/time or going for completely different powerset combinations such as earth/time. If you have suggestions that is fine but I already have two distinct character concepts already set up that I am interested in. The only other powerset I might be interested in is plants/storm summoning (which I actually already have, but quit playing once /time and /poison were announced). -
I've decided to simply go dark/dark. Thank you for your help!
-
What has been revealed about Titan weapons so far, besides the fact they are massive two handed weapons? How big are they, and when can we expect to see them?
If this is the closest I will ever get to broadsword, I might take it... I can't decide what to do with a tanker. -
Right now I've developed a basic character concept, and both of these archetypes interest me somewhat... so my question is, out of these two, what are the pros and cons of either?
In particular I've never heard of or seen a dual blades tanker before, and it does not really seem overly 'tanky'. There are no guides on it whatsoever, and there seem to be almost no dark tankers (of either powerset), so... anyways, does anyone know these powersets well enough to give me any advice?
(My ideal Tanker character would be sword/shield, but sadly that does not seem like it will ever be an option) -
Couldn't they just replace parry with another ability if that's the only problem?
Edit: I apologize if this is 'necromancing' a thread, I was searching through the forums for Broadsword as a tanker powerset, and came across this. -
Quote:That's disappointing. I am not sure if I will buy this, but I might. I am interested in a werewolf tanker, though... I can't really think of a good idea for a tanker. But I digress, thank you all for your help!Unfortunately, all the female animal heads are too small for the bodies. A shame the devs won't actually go back and fix this (like many other things that need fixed), instead of leaving things half done so they can push on to new things that will remain half done while they work on the next new thing that will remain half done, etc.
-
Thank you!

I've searched everywhere, including paragon wiki and the forums. In fact I've spent the last hour searching...
So, what does the female wolf costume from animal pack look like? Does it even have a female variant? If anyone has this pack and could post a picture of what it looks like, I would be really, really grateful!
Thank you for your time.
PS: I am aware that the wolf set has some issues. I am also aware that I can't purchase this until issue 21 if I decide to do so.
