Quote:I would never flame someone just for liking something different than me, but I must say I completely disagree with you.I guess I'm in the minority here. I prefer most aspects of the new PvP.
I have gotten used to DR. You don't "have" to have billion inf builds to be somewhat competitive now. I understand how this makes some people angry, gone are the days of buying your wins.
I think the new changes have in some ways made holds/stuns useful, Pre "new" PvP a break-free pretty much invalidated anything my controller could do in PvP other than De buffs , A 6 seconds Hold is better than no hold. Since i13, I play my troller in pvp now, and get kills, on my own. crazy.
Fights actually have a end now. (mostly talking arena on this one), You no longer have fights that last till one or the other side just quits. Zzzzzzz.
TS. I like it sometimes, when I'm chasing someone, I hate it, when I'm being chased. you can, sometimes kill a person in Zone PvP now w/o them streaking to base every time.
HD. This is one I'm still on the fence about, for my toons with 1 or 2 heals its not a huge deal. For my EMP, it kinds sucks. For people who used to load up a tray full of greens I can see how this would make em QQ.
also, You can turn off the TS, HD, DR, for Arena events. I know this make it 100% like pre i13, but its closer to what some people want
just my 2 inf
/dons flame proof underoos
I've never had a fully max'd out build on live. I've never wanted to PvE that much. But I can see how you might get that impression. When looking at the cost of PvP IOs, its hard to argue that a lot of PvPers are wanting to pay high cost for the very best.
I do want to comment on controllers being worthless in the old system. In a 1v1 fight a controller could anyone with 4 stacked holds - which was easy to do with S0s. If that person was teamed with an empath or thermal, yeah its going to be hard to hold them. But I would counter that their team of 2 SHOULD be able to beat the soo controller. Add a second hoder to YOUR team and you would find your odds of success to rise
Anyways, I'm sure there are people that like the new system over the old. That's why I tink this open letter is a good discussion forum for hopeful change. There are some nice features in PvP 2.0, so hopefully we can come to some middle ground -
What are you in-game Globals?: @EmpireForgotten
What characters do you have on Freedom?: Mind/Emp - i12 Specced Storm/Psi - i12 specced, Ice/Em blaster - PvE specced
Are you willing to respec into a PvP build?: All my stuff is specced for i12 - it sorta works for new PvP, but I won't PvE enough to get the monies necessary to make them fully equipped for PvP 2.0
Are you willing to roll a new character if needed?: Doubtful
Briefly describe your PvP experience: dUmb Live PvP i8-i9. dUmb test PvP i9-i12, Led dUmb PvP i11-i12. Specialized in storms and Weird, abstract strategy. I also can Emp. -
Quote:You might have something there - it would make sense.I have a sneaking suspicion the damage rule for melee attributes were mistakenly applied to melee ATs ranged patron/epics. Either mistakenly or done out of ignorance.
I don't think anything at this point is "working as intended."
The PvP 2.0 was a house of cards from the beginning - Im sure it was all 'whiteboard'ed up and then when they felt they had a working model, they ran to code it. Their problems started when tweaks needed to be done. Since one system was built on another, the changes made really made the house fall.
A lot of the changes were built upon the anti-spike code being in place. With that code gone, everything else seems to fall apart as well.
The anti-spike code was a broken premise to begin with, but it held PvP 2.0 together.
Need to go back to the whiteboard again -

Castle and Posi's vision isn't on PvP anymore. It's on End Game.
PvP USED to be the end game, but the majority of people didn't really like the old engine and no one likes the new engine so they are giving up.
I doubt we will see any major PvP changes unless this game lasts another 2 years. Once End Game is released, maybe they will come back and address the old Niche players they left behind - Namely the PvP crowd and base raiders/designers -
Quote:If it makes you feel any better, about 90% of the people who could kill you in i12 don't play anymore.Bingo. I'm built for for buffing, survivability, and evasion. i13 comes along...and DR hurts of course, but the HD and TS severely limit my potential to say the least. I started to type out a lot more here, but I'm going to refrain from e-raging regarding the dumbing down of PvP.
Even a horrible emp like me rarely dies. -

Quote:The PvPEC didn't. I did. So any blame can go strait to me
I don't really consider lineup changes to be a process either, and switching lineups is much different than it was back in i12.
For example: The classic "Dumb is bringing storms, get two kins" is much different from "Yo, they brought stalkers, let's get forts"... which is soon to be followed by "Yo, they brought forts, get off of your stalkers!"... to be followed by "Yo, they don't have stalkers, get off your forts!" and so on, until someone finally stops switching.
In i12, The same thing could have happened. If they other team saw storms and switched in a second kin, we could have switched out our /Dev blasters or TA defenders for more raw damage (Fire/EM, Psi/EM etc). We just chose to bring a team that we thought would be best and we just stayed that way until the match was over. We felt it was best to Win or Lose with what we wanted to play - and if the other team wanted to play away from their strengths to match up better to us, than so be it.
I doubt I'll be in a captaining a team again, but if I was, I would most definitely do as barrier suggest and call people out on the team changing. The old PvP was fun, and I wanted to do it, so it didn't really matter how long the matches took to get started. This new PvP is a mere shadow of its former self. Its not worth anyone's time to sit around and setup the 'perfect counter' lineup that takes hours to setup.
Again, I can't speak for how the dUmb team will be run, but Im guessing you will find little to no switching or mind games once people are logged in. I'd even wager that if you wanted, we would PM you are lineup a couple days before hand just so we can get this whole match started earlier. -
Quote:Just a question: Have you tried to make an impact? Serious question, no snark intended?i]unless we all have invested in exactly the same exploit of the mechanic[/i], we cannot even try to make an impact.
The devs should actually invest their time in examining real word tactics. If one side of a conflict has the mobility to extend or close distance gaps at will, the advantage is overwhelming. The opponent may as well be standing still. In such a competative environment, all combatants will flock to that advantage until everyone is a mind-numbing homogenized vanilla in that aspect... or they just lose.
That is broken.
From someone who started out playing melee in PvP, I COMPLETELY disagree with you.
This new PvP has made it a whole lot easier to deal with what you have just described. If you are trying to zero in on an opponent, like an FPS player would, then yes - you would be screwed. But since this isn't an FPS, we can just play it like any other MMO that has vertical movement in it.
If, on your melee character, you put someone 'jousting' on follow - you will hit them eventually. If you webnade them first (Or have your un-needed team help out) you can hit them again!
Standing around swinging at each other isn't PvP in this game - and it shouldn't be in ANY game. Doing the PvP you describe results in the 'whoever has the best connection and can click the fastest = winnah' There is no skill in that.
*Edit*
I do agree with your first paragraph though. The mez changes and AoE's in general suck. Anything that uses offensive toggles as their primary means of mitigation - Rads, Storms, Dark Miasma, Dark Armor - Even Invuln to an extent (Since it's balanced around being a hybrid). -
Quote:Is the captain of a division 6/8 team the only player allowed to be on both? or is it that you're the captain of a division 8 team and someone else needs to lead the other squadWell. It boils down to ladder format vs league format. Many players, myself included, wouldn't be happy being drafted and unable to play with the team I want to play with. So the option to enter a roster was an important implementation.
Of course, not everyone is going to captain/be asked to join/know enough people to be on an entered roster. Players that fit that description should still be able to play, regardless of experience and skill. Thus the draft was implemented.
As for 8v8 vs 6v6, we figured that less people would be involved in draft picks than in roster entry. As said in the rules, it's possible that we may increase the size of D6 matches pending on how many players are left in the draft pool when rosters are posted.
It's widely accepted that the 8v8 format allows for more tactical/dynamical employment than a 6v6. In a 6v6 you have less room for dedicated components to a lineup, so lineups are often much more simple and clean-cut. -

General Advice to the OP - if he's still reading.
Most of what's been said is good here
1. Keep moving - your best defense against stalkers are the keys W, A, S, D and Space bar.
2. Play what you're comfortable with. If you play a Dark Defender or Bubbler in PvE, try them out in PvP. Yes, the powers act differently, but speed/skill at placing Clickdrop powers or attack chains can really help with the transition into the new system
3. After you have gotten beaten a lot - ASK QUESTIONS. You might be surprised how that ******* PvPer can be really helpful at finding out where you messed up.
4. Team. Simple and to the point. Teaming in MMO's is essential to PvP. If you have 2 people and you go up against a team of 6, odds are you aren't going to survive. Team and team often.
5. And finally - leave excuses at the door. There is nothing more annoying hearing "GANKERS! try that one when my friends get here!" or "FoTM playing noobie..play something else why don't you!" If/When you lose, bring it harder next time - then you can talk. -
I thought the procs in LR were auto-hitting, but I could be wrong

Sharks aren't the problem - its the **** damage modifer changes that make Flurry more damaging than Blaze.
Putting a rule in to 'Fix' the broken things wrong with PvP 2.0 is not good.
You should only ban powers that can be exploited, and an 8-man-stalker-shark-spike isn't an exploit. -
Mind Elec sounds irritating, id play that one.
Just a question: If your ice/fire or mind elec suddenly become the new hotness in PvP and you are having a blast playing it - will you stop liking it because its become FOTM/"cookie cutter?" -
Quick question.
What is the lowest level PvP recipes.
I used to do a lot of level 4 PvP FFAs, just wondering if PvP ios would drop from those matches -
Quote:So....what you're saying is that anyone who quits out of a match early is a fiteclubber?Sadly a kb can only hold 16 people and we need even teams. So if there are more than 16 people or an odd number some one gets left behind. Even the very best pvpr's have experienced being the fat kid in one match or another.
On another note ANYONE who quits out of a match because the team isn't in their favor or because someone is on the team they don't want to team with is a tard. That goes right along with the mentality that you wont fight anyone or any build that you can't beat.
Security!
