  1. That much defense to two positions from three slots is totally out of order and the fact that it took the devs a long time to correct doesn't mean the fix isn't necessary. Someone posted elsewhere that it takes eleven slots from two separate sets to match the bonuses from three slots worth of BotZ. How anyone can say that isn't out of whack is beyond me.

This couldn't be truer. Having lived through I don't even know how many changes to how many power sets, it's always the same complaints of how unfair it all is. Yet, here we are, still superpowered after all the power set changes, global defense reduction, enhancement diversification, and the like. People are gonna rework their builds, lose some global recharge or whatever to make up the defense, and carry on. It's not the end of the world.
  2. Yeah slowing down the murder machine so that you can set up traps is basically cutting off your nose to spite your face. If they are killing fast enough that you don't have time to set traps (and that's probably how it's gonna be) then don't slow down, just enjoy the ride. Be a bro and jump in to take the alpha now and again with seekers and poison gas trap or something, but don't make your brute buddies bleed fury off while you set trap after trap around some corner.

Best advice in the thread, right here.

Try lots of sets and combos. You will find some that you love and some that make you want to pull your hair out. Don't worry too much about screwing up your character, even a less-than-optimal character is more than enough to wipe out the baddies.

I'm interested in finding the source of this information, as a cursory review of City of Data seems to contradict it. For example, Flamethrower, Neutron Bomb, Ball Lightning, Frost Breath, and Psychic Tornado all show as AoE only and their damage type, with no ranged component to check against. If I'm misunderstanding City of Data then that's another thing entirely.

No, it isn't. Where do you people get this idea? It's the DP equivalent of Bitter Ice Blast, Power Burst, Blaze, and the like. It differs in animation time and recharge, sometimes favourably, sometimes not, but its analog powers are definitely NOT the snipes.

To the OP, skip it if you like but it's a big hitter and you will notice its absence.
  6. (All opinion)

Redside by far. Trollers are boring to play, tanks are ultraboring to play, Khelds are garbage. I love scrappers, enjoy defenders, and like blasters. Of those three, defenders often feel too weak damagewise and blasters are all chewy centre with no crunchy shell.

Redside we have brutes, with the greatest inherent ever, Doms, like controllers only not boring and don't promote lazy play, and corruptors, with enough damage and buff/debuff to make things fun. Then you have Masterminds, a unique AT with great variety and utility. Stalkers are ehhh, but just like Dark Miasma and Black Hole, you gotta have one stinker VEATs are awesome, they are proof the devs learned from the mistakes made with Khelds.
  7. Believe me, Knightie, nobody is trying to edge you out of the worthless generic IO market via undercutting. It's just folks with FC crafting stuff for cheap and selling it fast, or people working on getting FC, or people who just don't care.

    Any regrets?

*sells LoTG +rech recipe to vendor*
    *twice*
  9. Maybe a better question: Heraclea, if you formed an STF, would you invite scrappers, or would you tell people to come back on their trollers/blasters/whatevers? Basically, are you part of the problem?
  10. Heraclea why can't you just start your own teams for TFs and invite whoever you want? Why are you forced to team with these scrublords you keep describing?

    Vpvp

Well I don't PVP but I wouldn't mind joining up and playing about, is that cool or do you want people with a modicum of experience and/or skill?
  12. Came to snark, laughed instead! Thanks OP
  13. Pretty much any scrapper paired with pretty much any defender is gonna make things fast and furious. Redside think brutes and corruptors for similar effect.

I just don't see this going both ways. If there is content where some characters bring less to the table, and you like to play those characters, you won't get to play it on the characters you like all that much.

This concerns me, and I think it ought to concern you as well. And if that is an issue with character that is somehow important, unlocking accolades or further story lines, you will be left out. Just as I'm left out of Dark Watcher due to my distaste for the Gaussian arc, and get told to bring a blaster or debuffer if I want to get in on a STF on a scrapper.
You're pretending that nonoptimal ATs can't get invited to content. If this was true, then every single TF/SF would be formed entirely of whatever AT handled it best. This doesn't occur, other than people intentionally running all-$AT teams. Fact is, good teams are often comprised of multiple ATs, acting in concert. The best teams are formed of any ATs being run by skilled players. You're also pretending that you cannot form your own team and populate it with whatever you want. Anyone can start a TF, and if your server or clique or SG or whatever doesn't want your scrapper on the STF, then form your own STF on your scrapper.

As far as being left out of the Dark Watcher because you are unwilling to work through Gaussian's arc, I don't know what to tell you. It's doable and not that difficult. You're cutting off your nose to spite your face with that one.

Nothing you've said is logical, and your statements regarding tankers are so ridiculous that I do not need to refute them. You aren't fooling anyone in this thread.

It's not intended to insult you, by the way, when I say you are willfully ignorant or purposely obtuse. It's just the way it is. Either you are actually ignorant of the game mechanics and roles of the archetypes and how they interact, and you refuse to learn (willfully ignorant) or you know those things and are pretending they don't exist (purposefully obtuse). Your posting has been refuted by myself and others, with explanations where applicable, and yet you cling to these wrongheaded ideas. If you take that as insulting, it's no skin off my nose.

    Q. E. D.
So is this. Tankers are more than just alpha-eaters. You are being either willfully ignorant or purposefully obtuse.

Is it your feeling that the entire game and all its content should be so easy that anyone can faceroll through it?

Except that as pointed out repeatedly in this thread, this doesn't happen. It just doesn't. There's nothing in the game that mandates this. Nothing. I've never told trollers to ditch pets for the STF. Never told scrappers to stay away from GW. Never asked masterminds to put pets away for the Rommy fight in the ITF. I can absolutely guarantee that I could finish the STF or the ITF with any team you want to assemble, assuming they are competent players who are willing to stick it out to the end.

I just don't want there to be roadblocks to further progress along a story line or some other content the way there is with the STF or the RWZ content.
Which content is this? I've never been roadblocked in the STF or the RWZ.

How your solo controller plays has nothing to do with how eight controllers play together.

Very little of the game takes place in the overworld. Most players are in one instance or another somewhere, teaming, SFing, in their base, being filthy in Pocket D, et cetera. That's why globals are so good. They will get you in touch with people you might never encounter.
  20. I've never ever done the STF with nukes, Shivans (other than incidentally, never specifically required) or demanding the tank have a million insps. If it was true that you needed shivans and nukes, then nobody would ever get the MoSTF badge, and I see that badge all over the place.

Every single run I have been on has been "bring what you got and let's rock it out," and I have never failed one yet. Hell, I've been on more than one run where a blaster tanked Lord Recluse while we beat on the towers. I can't imagine telling scrappers or trollers how to run their character in the STF. Scrappers just position themselves right and beat on her. The fact that I have never been on or run a failed STF, and that I often bring my BS/SD scrapper, tells me that things work out fine in the end. And controllers, holy hell I don't know what planet you are from but I don't think I have ever seen an STF that went as smoothly as the all-troller one I had the pleasure of doing.

If Ghost Widow was broken, then everyone would fail the TF when they had to encounter her. I've never been on an STF where GW was a tougher challenge than Recluse. Ghost Widow is challenging and requires more thought than "everyone hump her leg and beat on her," which is not the same thing as broken. The TF is hard! What's the problem with that? People still succeed all the time. The STF isn't broken. It sounds to me like you have been on some bad teams run by people who have had bad experiences, and this has made them think that you must have X,Y and Z or the TF will fail. Either that, or you are doing too much thinking about the subject and not enough TFing, because the problems you are talking about don't really exist outside the forum.

I hope Demon Summoning is not just a shiny, pretty set that isn't going to have much substance when it comes to numbers and playability.
Spruced that up for you a little, chief. If they do as good a job on Demon Summoning as they did on Dual Pistols, I will be very happy.

I'd rather teach some of these noobs to be better teammates so there are more of them around when i need them. heh.
Sadly, educating them rarely works and teams are so easy to come by I just don't bother wasting my time on the ones that are highly likely to be bad. However, on teams I lead, when someone says "we need an X" I just say "We sure don't!" and we then wildly succeed no matter what. I guess that counts as educating people.
