  1. I might have misread but knowing the temperature of a hard drive will not help you with an overheating graphic card.

Speedfan should be able to tell you the temp of the graphic card itself ( unless it doesn't have a sensor) and by past experience, what you are seeing is often caused by a overheating card.

edit: sorry just re-read the post and I missed the part where you say no other temp are showing. Still you could always pull the graphic card out and make sure there is no dust in the heat-sink and fan.
  2. oh so Cherry is on top tonight??....
  3. It really all depends on the database they currently use and if that same database architecture can be imported/modified/updated to fit the new engine.

Of course we can expect graphics to change, meaning our current character/powers probably wouldn't look the same on a new engine since they would have to retexturize, reanimate everything from ground up. Since they are currently using OpenGL (which is pretty much dead now ) they would have to recode everything for DirectX or whatever they decide to use. They would also probably take this chance to fix recursive bugs in the code or fix bad decision made in previous years (GDN, ED...etc ( I wish...)). they could also decide to change how enhancement affects power, or how the basic formulas are calculated....etc

So in the end we would have more then just a new engine, we would have a full new game that probably wouldn't look or fell like the old one.

Also coding compatibility from CoH to CoH2 would probably take more time and money than is really needed.

NCSoft kept Lineage running when they released Lineage 2. they could do the same for CoH you play whichever you prefer at that point.

    ***Note: this is all speculation
  4. ok let's start speculating on the next engine... I vote for Crytek or Unreal Engines

Seing how NCfost already have a license with the Crytek engine for Aion, it would make sens to get another one. Also they probably have people who already know how to code for it ( now are they ready to share with Paragon Studio... I have no idea)

And Unreal, simply cause I'm a big fan of the engine and how easy it is to create your own maps, mods (partial or complete remakes)... and stuff with it.

Both would be visually pleasing to say the least LOL
  5. In any case.. if you have to explain the joke then it's not funny anymore
  6. This guide made me think of the best troller combination to use Tornado (since my other troller can't) so I just rolled a earth/storm troller... I blame Silas for fueling my altism.

This is what I came up with so far:

  7. nice guide as always

The only thing I would add is for the Lightning Storm: If you have enough slot you can place the Chance to hold proc ( can't remember which set). Each lighting strike will then have a chance to hold the enemy in place. It works really well and the hold itself is pretty decent.

As for Tornado, don't use it with a grav troller. It's one of few troller set that doesn't have a -kb in the Aoe Immo. (I learned that the hard way on my grav/storm lol) Unless like Silas said and you want to create Chaos...
  8. Each years some companies will create something funny for April Fool. It can be a new product, a announcement or a redesign of a page... anything.

I'd like to know what is the best April Fool you found on the Net today.

    So far mine is: http://xkcd.com/

  10. honestly, any toon will help at a raid independently of the built or powerset.

Just come with what you have and you will have something to do
  11. hum I did use Vidiotmap a couple years ago.. I didn't think I had been copying the same game folder for all those years (I reformat 2 to 3 times a year easily...)

Anyway I tried again after the game finished downloading and I still had the same issue except that it wasn't a complete lock of the computer just very bad lag whenever there was some sound. I downloaded an updated sound driver, and reinstalled the Nforce driver but I didn't have time to try again.

By this logic only people in an SG/VG would be able to unlock the Incarnate power? I'm not sure how well this would be received by people who mainly solo or don't feel the need to join an SG/VG.

Beside that, revamping the Shadow Shard is way overdue IMO. Should it be linked to the Incarnate.. maybe but I think at this time we are speculating WAY too much on what the system is and what it means to our precious lvl 50.
  13. I haven't tried a fresh install yet but I don't play with any mods. I noticed Zloth coh helper was finding something in the "mod" section but I don't remember using any.

anyway i'll go start the download and see where that gets me.
  14. I tried playing other games yesterday (crysis, starcraft, Ut2004 and UT3) and none of them gave me any problem. This makes me think there is something in CoH that is either corrupt or isn't getting removed from the sub-process.

I tried launching the game while Procmon was running but wasn't able to see anything special that could cause this.

If anyone has any idea of where to look, please let me know.
  15. yeah sorry forgot to add it to the reply. I checked the task manager and unless it's a sub-component still runnin, cityofheroes.exe doesn't appear in the list.
  16. yeah I just tried after reinstalling Windows with everything as defaulted " in game sound, no external music .. etc" and still it worked well until I restarted the game (had to change the resolution).

BTW i'm using Winamp which never caused problem before (AFAIK)
  17. Hey all,

Since a couple of weeks i've been getting some very weird bugs when trying to play CoH on Windows 7. I can play the game for as long as I want, but if I close it and start it again in the same windows session (no reboot), the game will stutter and something freeze the whole computer. If I can get to the close menu or force it down by the Task manager, the computer keep running without problem.

I normally play music at the same time and the music seems to follow the game lag. I have just reinstalled Windows 7 (bout 10min ago) thinking it was a driver issue but no luck.

Even weirder is that once I reboot, I can play the game without problem again but only for one session.

I pasted the info from COH helper (nice job on the updated version Zloth btw). I notice that it doesn't take the motherboard version .. it's an EVGA 780I and the graphic card (275) is also from EVGA. I do have a spare 8800 in but it's dedicated to PhysX and shouldn't interfere. I can always remove it if needed.

If anyone has any good idea as to the cause of this "bug" let me know cause right now i'm kinda lost.

  18. hum I like the idea of a Electric Control and that incarnate system seems interesting but I guess we'll have to wait for more info on that...
  19. lol I didn't bribe anyone. I was giving the money away in a contest.. it just happen to be between the different waves at the raid..

It got people at the raids, the raid was successful and I think it got people interested in doing more of them..(which was the whole point )

  21. If I didn't know better, I'd say people here are all going nuts..... but then again I do know better: you were always that way... ( guess it's a prerequisite to play on this server)

On a side note.... Even if Net brings very good points to the table, and Amy's fact can't be ignored (the poor cat lady down the street...what will she become???), I vote we start with a bi-weekly raids, so people can get used to them.

I still have a couple of EoE from the hunt ( wasn't able to past them all out, and couldn't make it to the raid) so i'll bring them to the next one, or I can give them to whoever is the EoE Keeper.
