City of Heroes 2?!

I can say it's about time and I am not surprised one bit!
I've heard many times about how buggy the engine is and how it could be almost easier to just make a new one so they could fix bugs easier. We all know the coding on this game can be hella crazy!
I say... bring it on! I can't wait! I've been waiting a long time for CoH 2.0!

ok let's start speculating on the next engine... I vote for Crytek or Unreal Engines
Seing how NCfost already have a license with the Crytek engine for Aion, it would make sens to get another one. Also they probably have people who already know how to code for it ( now are they ready to share with Paragon Studio... I have no idea)
And Unreal, simply cause I'm a big fan of the engine and how easy it is to create your own maps, mods (partial or complete remakes)... and stuff with it.
Both would be visually pleasing to say the least LOL
I don't play on the Champion server...but I noticed this thread and had to ask a question. I know that there are a lot of tech-minded people that play the game and they may be able to give some insight.
Is it possible to upgrade the game engine, character models, and graphics via a sequel but still keep the characters info and just port it into the new system...whatever that system might be? I'm honestly not all that excited about starting over in seperate universe but I would like to see the game expand and evolve and become what amounts to a new experience. I just don't want to drag beloved characters I've maxed out through a lowbie experience every 7-9 years as MMOs die off and get replaced by their next generation. Is it possible for a MMO to evolve into the next big shiny thing rather than start over as the next big shiny thing?
I certainly want to see the scope widen: I want to visit other places than Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. I want to lose the war walls. I want to see old enemies be defeated and new ones arise in their place. I want to see asymetrical character models and costumes. I definitely want to see things in this game that we are often told isn't possible with the present engine...I just would like to see them with the characters I've in which I've already invested much time and effort.
Can a sequel be part of an overall evolution or must it be a complete reboot?

It really all depends on the database they currently use and if that same database architecture can be imported/modified/updated to fit the new engine.
Of course we can expect graphics to change, meaning our current character/powers probably wouldn't look the same on a new engine since they would have to retexturize, reanimate everything from ground up. Since they are currently using OpenGL (which is pretty much dead now ) they would have to recode everything for DirectX or whatever they decide to use. They would also probably take this chance to fix recursive bugs in the code or fix bad decision made in previous years (GDN, ED...etc ( I wish...)). they could also decide to change how enhancement affects power, or how the basic formulas are calculated....etc
So in the end we would have more then just a new engine, we would have a full new game that probably wouldn't look or fell like the old one.
Also coding compatibility from CoH to CoH2 would probably take more time and money than is really needed.
NCSoft kept Lineage running when they released Lineage 2. they could do the same for CoH you play whichever you prefer at that point.
***Note: this is all speculation
Practically you'd have to conclude it's just an preemptive name grab, just in case. But paragon Studios has started to work on 'something', no one knows what it is, have you heard about that?
But would NCSoft invest in a niche franchise that definitely wont give them Aion level returns.
As it is they're spending to maintain a product they didn't have to pay to develop outright.
Still it'd be cool if it happens.
Coming from the same company as GWs, I'd expect something like GW2.. Not much of a difference, but something to throw money at.
The real question would be...
Would you stop playing CoH to play CoH2?
That's the question that every devs must ask whenever they think about making a sequel to a MMO.
