Yeah, when in the blazes did that happen?? I was just playing a lower level blaster against CoT, for the first time in a while, and I thought it was odd that something from the archers was knocking me down... I didn't recall that being normal, but wasn't positive.

In the story he went back later to cut the Lion's mane off for armor (something that can't be replicated in the character editor at this time). But in this case, the Lion barely survives and crawls into the Red River and is swept away to the shores of the Rogue Isles. I plan to create an AE arc in which the Nemean Lion is Hercules' arch nemesis, something that absolutely can be done now .
    Haha
Yeah, I toyed back and forth between Super Strength and the maul.
Either way is right, in my opinion. If Titan Weapons ad a giant wooden maul... that might be a great choice, hehe.

You need to get on my global, I don't come to the forums as much anymore, and I'd love for us to meet each others characters. 99 percent of my RP happens in or between missions, not standing around somewhere!
That's my kind of RP as well!
Honestly, I've been such a solo, quiet, just hopping on to play 1-3 missions guy for a while now. Been busy and only seem to log in when I'm a bit beat and allowing myself a brief distraction.

Maybe we can make a meet up happen during one of those times anyway! It doesn't always have to be epic, hehe... I just tend to shy away from bothering people when I know I'm only on for 20-40 minutes!

Oh, and definitely, global me up... and/or I will you. @Zethustra is the name!
  3. Are you serious???
So, now that you got a slew of replies boasting the same "ridiculous theories", did that help clarify anything for you at all??

I almost feel sorry that I even bothered to be polite and offer help and explanations for you... I say "almost sorry", because, honestly, it is always worth being polite, because being polite is about who you are and not what the other person is like.
And you... you show what you are like by your reply to Captain-Electric right there.
  4. Love the look, Captain, and I trust you to portray our hero well!

Also, glad to see you went with the maul, as it should be!

I once messed around in the costume creator with making a traditional Heracles (I am part Greek, after all), and it looks like we both went with similar directions.
  5. My thoughts:

Gary Oldman is one of the greatest actors of our time.

    Remake... yay.

    *shrugs*
That's about all I've got. Who knows... when it is done, it could be something good, but I just despise the lack of creativity being used and expressed through ideas and concepts for stories and films.

Play smarter.. learn your enemies.. learn who mezzes and how.. Develop techniques to deal with mezzers.. Mez them FIRST.. Stun em.. Hold em.. knock them down.. Take them down before they take you down..
I agree that what you've said very well may be the biggest part of the problem some people have with playing Blasters.
That said, I do think that Blasters' damage is too low to balance out their complete lack of defenses, when compared to other damage dealers that do have defenses and greater survivability options.

Still, make no mistake... Blasters, as they currently are, are my favorite playstyle and I wouldn't want to give them mez protection or survivability that would take that need for a strategic approach away.
  8. I wasn't around for any of the poor RP in admin chat that has been mentioned (but, hey, we all have our off nights!), but I did just want to say...

As a role-player, the big bold red text in every single channel interrupts my game play (and role-play) just as much as having to sit in a chair, use a keyboard, look at a screen and read chat does.

Oh, the difficult hurdles that life throws at us!!

    I haven't even seen 4...
  11. I'm definitely not convinced the Blaster should get mez protection help.
I actually very much like the current aspect of Defiance.

However, I've long wondered if the Blaster should have more hit points.

I am not a numbers person. It's just always struck me as odd when the wimp gets NO defense AND so much less HPs.
I am not saying that this is the answer or even AN answer... it's just something I've wondered about (very likely someone could point out why this would be very bad).
Give us Blasters a little more of a chance to survive the beatings they will take.

It seems true that the amount of damage increase Blasters would need (to balance the lack of defenses compared to the damage output the well-protected ATs can deliver) would be quite ridiculously high.
So, maybe some damage increases (including many of the things people have suggested for a while now... Snipes possibly working like Stalker's Assassin Strikes - long snipe or normalized heavy hitter plus nuke improvements [either bigger and badder or crashless]) plus a bit more beef on the bones via Hit Points... Would that be good? Bad?

If Disney saw you made a lot of money on a derivative of their work, they might try to go after you for licensing, but they could just as easily realize that your story has renewed interest in their original work and helped increase its value, not dilute it. They just might be comfortable with letting it slide-- no risk to them.
And that's the funny twist to the overdone state we've gotten into in order to protect our works... Sometimes the legal leanings harm what would otherwise be a completely acceptable and beneficial free dose of publicity/advertising.
It's a thin line and I can't say that any of us can always have a solid knowledge of which way to lean to keep sensible balance, heh...
(Not talking about us making characters in this game, btw, that isn't our decision to make and Marvel and the like have made it clear where they stand on that).

It just gets nuts... They want to use your song, but they don't want to bother to work out obtaining the rights, so they hire some other guy to imitate your song just enough so that everyone can clearly identify what song they were ripping off, while legally it differs enough to be considered original... Yay?
    *ends ramble*
  13. Well, it took me a bit to figure out what would have been my first...

    Asterix The Gaul!

When I was a child, my maternal grandparents used to send us boxes full of stuff (from candy, to clothes, to books and comicbooks) from across the Atlantic ocean.
And my brother and I grew up reading the British translations of Asterix books (extremely popular around much of the world, but mostly unknown within America). Really great and funny stuff. The animated movie "The Twelve Tasks Of Asterix" is actually quite well done and a nice adaption of the book of the same title.
I always loved the artwork in those... It was just a great blend of cartoony and quality illustrations. And the humor and wit, combined with the satirical look on history, were all just delightful and, I think, a great source for young people to read and kick start their brains.

As for comics that I ventured out and grabbed myself (besides completing my collection of Asterix books along the way) when I was a little older... I never really got into collecting comics so much, but I did venture out and grab some Spider-Man issues... Right around the time of Venom, I believe. Unfortunately, there were so many crossovers and such going on, that I ended up missing what I needed to buy in order to follow one story arc and I gave up, haha.

Then I just stuck with being loaned books when they were suggested to me or sounded good.
  14. I believe that the names of Greek Gods are public domain and cannot be considered intellectual-property/copyrighted/trademarked.

I've never had any personal experience with character or naming issues in this game though.

From what I understand, while it is somewhat of a case-by-case basis by the individual GM, sometimes a name with a completely different look and backstory may win an appeal (if generic'd). If all things match up (name, appearance, overall theme/background) to a copyrighted character, then there's no chance... but just having a common-word name without any other similarities can be allowed (however, I don't know that the biggest and most popular common-word names could be kept this way, such as Wolverine or Spider-Man).

    Best of luck!
  15. I am very happy to see that the simple matter of differing opinions was left at that and any further discussion that continued retained remarkable civility and level-headed reasoning.

This is exactly what turned me right off of trying to casually read comicbooks many many moons ago.

Fortunately, I had a friend who would lend me full arcs and/or tradepaperbacks of things he really enjoyed and/or thought I would like. So... I was a cheater comicbook reader.
Not a bad way to go though... ask around the office!

I'm not the best to give advice about this, but I agree with what others have said. Grab a few things of character you think you'd like (or have always liked and want to check out) and/or grab some trade paperbacks or full runs so you can actually read a completely story arc and get a taste for it.

Personally, I love Watchmen and have no problems suggesting it for a first-timer... it just depends on whether you're into a more intelligent, dark, heavily character-driven work of art or not.
I can't honestly say that everyone will love (or like) Watchmen... Even if I think they should!

The nice thing about it: you don't need to know anything that happens before, or anything that happens after it. It is 100% self-contained. And for an 80's comic with an omnipotent blue man, its gritty realism was far enough ahead of its time that the story holds up well today, even with the story being anchored in the 1980s itself.

Scott McCloud said that comic books are not novels that happen to have pictures, or movies but in book form, but a unique form of expression that has the ability to tell stories you can't tell in any other way. Book four of Watchmen is still, twenty five years later, my best example of that principle.

A quarter century later, I still consider Watchmen to be state of the art sequential art story telling.
This all matches my thoughts and experiences with this book (except I have not lost any of my own books to loans or otherwise, haha, but I've bought it for multiple people)... And the part I bolded is so especially, superbly true, in my opinion.

Oh, and I supposed I should just say that what seems to be off for me about the aura is that maybe the shading or that it looks a little 2Dish to me.
Again, since others like it, that's good enough for me. Just figured I'd mention why I said I didn't care for it. I'm figuring it is just a style or representing something that I never had any interest in representing.
  18. Hahaha... some of the best moments come from facing an overwhelming enemy... especially an AE NPC with some original twists.

I started typing up one of my favorite experiences in this game that involved a team wipe against an AE Elite Boss I created within the first week or two of the AE, but... It'll take too long and maybe I shouldn't hijack your thread for it, haha.
  19. And, it's funny, because I often enjoy these games the most when I'm "done" with a character.

The same thing happened here that did in my first mmorpg, a long time ago... in a galaxy far far away (before the dark times...).

I got the abilities/powers/whatnot that I wanted and then I just logged on and... did whatever I felt like! I so very much enjoy having completed my characters' skills/powers and just doing what seems fun or what seems fitting or just exploring something.

It sometimes seems to me that I'll log in and play more once I'm done. It's a really fun spot for me to be in and generally feels like it is "the point" for me, as opposed to what others are referring to as "the point".

I suppose that is because my point for playing is role-playing and/or just the immersion factor.
  20. I'm honestly glad to see that people like this aura, because it just doesn't seem to appeal to me.

I say that without any intent to insult at all and I am truly happy to see that people do like it!

Just a style/taste thing... and I'm glad, because I was starting to think it might just not be done well... but obviously that's not the case and it's just my opinion... and that makes me happy.
Although, I have been meaning to take a look at it in the game world, as opposed to just the costume screens.

I find teaming to be the most satisfying. I like a variety of foes and a variety of maps. I suspect I would want to team with people for radio missions. A fair amount of variety that is very convenient.

I would do Sutter's TF because it is epic and fun, maybe the Posi's. The other TF's I would probably avoid because they are long and tedious.
This is pretty much how I play already.
I play as Electric-Knight, probably 80% of the time, if not more... And the rest is on a lot of different maxed characters and/or the occasional new alt, but... My fun and play is never about the process of leveling up, instead it is just about using my powers, experiencing the game through my characters and having fun!
Everything I need just comes along with playing (inf for enhancements) and I don't use IOs the way most do, so I just play.

I frequently just run radio missions solo... kinda like one-off comicbooks for a quick read.
I duo with my wife, team with friends, role-play with role-players and decorate bases!

I, for one, welcome our future Clown Mastermind Overlords!
  23. What I find strange/intriguing is that you mention being in your base and that the main terminal took you to Galaxy City.

When you say the "main terminal", do you mean the portal that will take you to the zone that you entered the base from?
And, if so, what zone were you in before you went to the base?

I'm just curious. For a moment, the only sense I could make of it was that you logged into the game with your character in the base and the reason the main terminal took you to Galaxy City is because that was the last zone that character was in before entering the base (many moons ago)... However, we can't log into the game within a base, so that's the source of my confusion!

In the end... this just sounds like some whacky timey wimey stuff! Or is it the beginning... or the middle...

    Quote:
You might want to check all character in bases that have portals set to return to old Galaxy City and do the same.
Ah, see, yeah... you seem to be saying that you logged into your base! That shouldn't be possible (even though I'd like it to be!).

  24. I used to be a villain...

It's a bit like talking about a rookie athlete's future hall of fame status or comparing them to the all-time greats.

All this being said, The Avengers has huge positives going for it along the lines of becoming an in-grained cultural phenomenon (for children now and for them throughout their lives).
The main similarities to Star Wars is that it is a massively marketable mythology that modern culture can accept. Just as comicbooks were and now it could take it to the level of dominating the marketable world.
Marvel has an enormous thing on their hands. Whether or not it takes that direction, they handle it well and/or a multitude of other factors will determine where it lies within society and the minds of today's fans in the future.

Certainly, it has an enormous amount of things going for it far and beyond what The Matrix did.
