  1. Thanks, Winterminal.
I hadn't heard about that latest decision!
Hmm... I'll have to check the I19 patch notes to see if the increase is coming for Blasters in there.

_eeek_ reminded me of something... General Movement Speed Bonuses...
I love logging in and out at the Trains (heroside) and having those full speed buffs. So, I generally am running with those bonuses on my Hover as well.

Also, while Winterminal is right about not needing the enhancements in Flight, Swift will still benefit Hover. However, it really doesn't do much (if any) good to put additional slots into Swift, as the percentage that gets increased is so small (from what I remember back when I briefly studied the numbers for travel powers many moons ago).

*flies off at the speed of... a car slowing down in the right lane to take an exit off of the highway*
  2. Huh... Wow, whoa... I'm only just being caught up to speed on the change that the bugged speed will now stay as the correct speed.
So... as a Blaster, I must ask... when can I get this base speed (And ditch my extra slots in fly)?
Hopefully with I19, so I can do one respec and be done with it.

I do think it is crazy that we won't need to add slots to reach the cap, but... If it is staying that way, I'd sure like it for my blaster please!

And thanks for the report, ZM!

Castle... Can I haz fly speed nao?

Hehe, that is an interesting comparison.
As for Wonder Woman, while I love Lynda Carter, I wouldn't so much feel worried about a new Wonder Woman not being her, but rather that is a very tough role to cast for (in my opinion).
I just think that, along with charisma, the actual physical appearance and structure needs to be something not entirely normal.
When people were clamoring for it, I could certainly see the validity of wanting Lucy Lawless in the role.
The problem is, not many people (let alone women) have that sort of size, stature, charisma and looks.
Sure, they can find the pretty face and tight body, but some people envision Wonder Woman a little bigger, athletic and muscular than your (above) average bombshell.

Anyways... Sorry for the derail there, hehe...
To be honest, the Bixby thing wasn't really so much about demands or expectations on the new show.
I just can't talk about Hulk on television without showing some love and respect for the guy for what he did in the franchise and such.
I don't know... Something about him just really reached some subconscious level for me as a child and it remains. Then I look back and watch some stuff and see how involved he was in directing it later on. And learn about some of things about him in his personal life.
He just is Banner for me, hehe.
I know it is just my experiences as a child and all that cement that in, but I'm just speaking for myself, after all.

Still, I do think there is merit to taking his contributions into account when preparing for anything to do with Banner.

Take Lee and Kirby's work (obviously), take Bixby's influence, probably some other comic moments that I am not naming here... and then go whichever way you (as the artists/creators) feel is right.

    Just my take on it.
And I'm just spouting out stuff for fun here (In case it seems I'm taking this too seriously).
I really enjoy craftsmanship. Guillermo del Toro seems to be one and it is also what I appreciated most about Bixby.

    /ends babbling
  4. Well sunnuva...
Sure enough... I just opened up my 4600 and it sure looks like I do have them.
I'll see what the deal is with theirs tomorrow!
Now I am trying to remember why we were under the belief that it didn't have any SATA.

Crazy... she had put this off for a while, so I was finally trying to finish it up... can't believe it may have had SATA connectors all this time.

    Thanks, Father Xmas!

Once the i19 mass-respec begins, I'm considering swapping that out for a LotG +Recharge, and adding Winter's Gift to Fly or something. (Although, with Fly's recent error-turned-buff, I don't need any further enhancements, considering at lvl 50 I'll be flying at the top flight speed with nothing slotted.)
Hmm, I forgot about the Flight speed error... That isn't showing up in Mid's is it?
Also, I think I read that Blasters' flight speed is correct... But I may be misremembering.

I was confused for a bit... I believe those are the KPH for flight speeds.

I made an exception with one melee character just because I wanted to be able to fight while flying and didn't feel like he needed another attack, beyond his primary attacks.

  7. Aw, I just happened to be talking to a friend on the phone while they had just logged in Atlas Park and listened to him figure out what may have been going on by reading the special event titles on people's characters.

If I were able to at the time, I would have hopped on to join in!

    Did she say yes??

  9. This is a general PC tech question, I hope that's okay...

A family member bought a nice new Harddrive that is a SATA ii and their current motherboard only has IDE. So, they bought an adapter, but it doesn't work.
Someone mentioned that they need an actual controller card and not just an adapter/bridge.
I am really not positive at all. And I was looking to do this for myself, after I figure it out for them.

Can anyone answer whether an old Dell Dimension 4600 can use a SATAii Harddrive with an adapter like this or does it have to be a controller card like this?

    Much appreciation for any help!
  10. Hiya, WW!
I hope you all can relax and have a fun holiday.
I'm happy playing the game we have right now, so... No big deal!

Now you say that you have to postpone what I have been looking forward to since I bought GR some more? Fair enough, postpone my re-bill while your at it to account for the 15 days that I won't be playing this in the meantime.
    Hrm...

I only bought the lottery ticket in the hopes that I was going to win!
The cashier just smiles and laughs whenever I mention getting a refund for the foul up!!
There was no promised due date of this Issue.
They casually confessed that they wanted to get it done and out before the holiday break.
People who were at the Meet and Greet let us know that they said they were hoping for that, but if not, it would wait until afterward...

Sorry that you paid for something 15 days ago and are now unhappy with how things are playing out.
Pretty sure there is an abundance of content and fun to be had for $15 in this game though.
Hopefully you can manage to find it and have some fun.

Instead of lashing out or anything, I am going to attempt to say this kindly... The way that you present your opinions really makes you seem rather obnoxious and a bit oblivious.

Besides the fact that ruining some ATs is never acceptable for a live publish (good grief, why does that need to be stated at all, never mind so many times in the past few days?), when a bug has not been figured out/solved, it may be a much bigger problem than the small Test Server results indicate.
To release such a thing on to the live servers (AND right before a holiday break) would be... obnoxiously oblivious.
  11. I use hover a lot.
With it Three Slotted for Flight Speed and Swift with a Flight Speed, it is comparable (Or... was... before the sprint speed increase) with other characters sprinting.

They boosted Hover's speed a few times and it's been a wonderful thing.

I'm not saying it is the fastest option or anything, but I rarely mind being in hover with E-K on mission maps.

If it is a big team, rushing and racing sort of situation (In a wide open CoT Cave or outdoor map or something) I will sometimes move around with Flight and switch to Hover.
I've never had any problem quickly pressing a key to switch between them, so I never set up any special binds for it.

Let's see... actual numbers... Hover is 24.1 MPH with EK's level 50 Standard IO build of 3 in Hover plus the small bonus from Swift.

    EDIT:
    And, pardon me, but...
You... don't have something on your nose... Just... yes, right there.
    Anyway... Go on.
  13. Well, this could be fun!
Without Bill Bixby, I will have my doubts, of course.
I hope they can manage to overcome the need to cheese enough to get someone with a demeanor more like Bixby than what you typically see on a new show.

And... I hope they use the Lonely Man theme...

Although, I'm not really going to hold it to the old show.
I'm interested to see what they decide to do with it.
It has potential in a number of different ways.
I just find the sad, tortured road of Banner the most interesting aspect.

Based on del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth and the first Hellboy movie... this could be very interesting indeed.

Ooh, I didn't know you did some of this, Tech.
I never saw this thread until just now and I wanted to say that I love the final Technobot "Cradle" piece.
The lighting and shading really brought the whole thing together nicely, in my opinion (Besides the obviously nice line work on the original sketch of Alpha).

    Nice work, mate!
  15. Just for the record...
I don't watch any other tv shows (Short of Cheers, Seinfeld, Inspector Lewis, Fawlty Towers...) alright zero current tv shows.

So, I suppose that is in defense of both myself and Walking Dead.
I thought this one may be an exception... It wasn't.
    *shrugs*

Anyone can call it nitpicking if they like... It's all just personal preference (And I believe that is basically what Baler was saying, so I certainly took zero offense with the "nitpciking" thing).

I only pick nits if there are nits to pick. And it only bothers me if there are too many or they are too ridiculous.

    Anyways...
Braaaaaaaiiiiins... (I wish I could shut mine off)
  16. Well, I didn't watch the third episode.
Didn't even think of it other than seeing this thread coming up in my subscription, hehe (Thanks Lumi ).

Yeah, it just isn't for me.
I may check it out eventually to see what exactly went down, but we'll see.
I don't know, I browsed some of the replies in here about what happened and it seems like more people are getting bothered by the same sort of thing that turned me off after the second episode.

Still... I am glad those that are enjoying it have to enjoy!
I don't mind admitting that I am a bit jealous!

Exactly. I was going to comment on that, but you covered it perfectly well.

Now, excuse me, as 1) I'm no marketeer and 2) I don't normally come to these forums and 3) This is besides the real point of this thread, so I apologize...

While I see zero moral implications in flipping (since flipping has been a specific focus of discussion in here)...
I do think that people (of any and all groups) tend to place too much importance on themselves.
And, I simply mean they hold that importance in the discussions of their actions, not necessarily in the performance of their actions (nor when away from the game walking down the street, for instance).

The results of the flippers are the results.
The economy and the video game world would perpetuate, with and without flux, and things would be okay... and things would be complained about.

So, actually... I'd say the greatest benefit of the flippers, specifically, are simply as a target for some people's animosity.

Thank you, flippers, for being a face of evil for people to throw their ugly frustrations towards.

It's like in the 90's when they were cutting off Aquaman's hand and smearing shadows all over Spiderman's face in a desperate attempt to be taken seriously.
    Agreed
It also makes me think of the soap operas that people... used to... poke fun of so regularly.
Just from my point of view, I find it somewhat funny (in that sad sort of way) that somehow, a large portion of Sci-Fi fans have become the equivalent of card carrying Soap Opera lovers.
  20. I think, as has been hinted at by others, the problem is more about the quality of writing than the supposedly "realistic" themes.
I think that the attempts toward gritty and such are a bit more noticeable, as they tend to be a bit more disturbing to some...
So, poor attempts of writing that involve that aspect tend to have that aspect stand out rather largely.
As opposed to the countless other styles that have gone by with poor writing.

A drama that is poorly done is never worth the experience.
Ever watch a movie that sucker punches you with cheap and obvious emotional toil, but gives you nothing of substance for any of it and turns out to be unworthy of your time and investment?
They tend to suck, because they didn't earn the feelings. They just used easy targets of sadness to pull you in, without cleverness, ingenuity or artistry. (EG meet the lovely child... kill off the lovely child... have no solid story of interest or intellectual reward... roll credits)

Now... I am someone who loves insanely dark, deeply emotional, haunting, terrifying (Well, if I could find such a thing) works of art.
I am all for as dark as can be.
I can get a lot of enjoyment of things based around completely sick and villainous minds.
I've long wanted more of it.

I don't find the current trends to match this desire of mine though.

I see it much more often as similar to hanging out around role-players who think they are amazingly deep for their brooding characters, ooooooh.
Their parents died 87 times before they were the age of 3 and they have the weight of letting the entire world die every single night when they sleep... They have 8 girlfriends who are all on suicide watch and they have a bad drug addiction that they manage to fend off, but the resulting struggle gives them a bad temper... even though they are truly a very sincere and sensitive soul... blah blah blah...

So, in a sense... yes, obviously the current predominant trend has been grittier stuff (I'd guess the Sopranos were a large part of that, as its success helped to usher in more suits' confidence in such material).
However, I find the real problem to be that creating grittier/darker content (focusing on soul searching and the like) generally requires a greater quality of writing (directing, acting and editing as well... it is definitely not always the writer) to work well... And not so much that the gritty/realistic trend is too much to bear.

    That is just me though.
  21. I think, from now on, I shall use the word charactersaurus!

No, not because the character is lizard-like, but since some find typing character to be a nuisance, I will antiquate the long form further by making it even harder to type... and being a fast typing curmudgeon, why not??

Also, I don't mind what people call their avatars.
I don't get bothered by words that some choose.

My pineapple leveled to 30 in one go in the dinkydong lounge. I still haven't left tortoiseville. I don't even know where the coconut is if I wanted to leave!!

Yep, yep, it is a 20% increase to powers that you have that grant defense (that allow defense enhancements).

Before I realized that in beta, I was pretty much planning on Nerve for my Elec/Elec/Elec... I may still, but I am now thinking about going musculature.

Obviously, I'll play around with both and see.
Maybe two different builds, each designed around Nerve and Musculature, respectively.
I don't currently have any defense powers, but I might make a build specifically for that now, to play with the Nerve tree a bit and see if I like it.

    Fun stuff!!
  24. It can absolutely be considered/played-as a Psi Power.

It can be played as a number of things, but a Psi Power fits very well, in my omnipotent decree!

I've had two Empaths who both have an element of psychic abilities regarding that powerset.
One (an alien) combines their psychic abilities with some advanced technology to be able to heal and mend and boost with great proficiency.
The other has psychic powers and it can play a role in some of the Empath powers, but it also involves elements of telekinesis (to a microscopic level) as well as a tad bit of reality manipulation and such (My only cosmic level character... though still... very subdued).

    Best of luck and enjoy!!
  25. *performs a standing ovation from a seated position*

    YES!!!!!!!!!
As I have never seen any of these other videos that supposedly include similar character names and costumes... I have to refute any claims that this wasn't the first CoH video made with this site.
PLUS... I've never seen any video from this site at all...
So, clearly it is the first one made with that tool EVER!!

All of that hooey is moot anyway...
As the only important thing is the amazing work of art we see in this OP and how much this company could gain if they would pay Marcian to promote this product!!!!!!!
I learned more about Issue 19 from watching this than I did from watching Inspector Lewis last night (Including when I paused it and went into the kitchen)!!

When great art arrives to us, we must celebrate it!
I must go to work now.

    Seriously...

    I laughed...
    I cried...
    I forgot to hit PLAY...
    I started the video...
    I cried.

    Thank you, Marcian.

    Thank you!!

    THANK YOU!!!!!

You made my hour of 12 today!!
(Although there is still 15 minutes left, so all bets are off)

If the academy does not recognize this as the triumph it clearly is, I am revoking my membership and wearing striped pants from now on.

    Also...
I have to admit that it touched a sweet spot of sentimentality for me... As my family and I had much fun sending free trial Site Pal messages to each other, relentlessly.
Playing the game of phonetics in order to get them to say things it didn't quite get, in ways that you desired... is tremendously fun...
And you, sir... Clearly have a special gift.

A very very very very very very special (very special) gift.
Thank you for sharing this fact with us, so that we can all act accordingly.

    yours truly,
    Electric-Knight, Esquire

P.S. I have nothing else to say.
