  1. Just off the cuff, I'd think that set prices would end up hurting the people/players on the lower end of the in-game economy.

The way things are now benefits the buyer more than the seller.

    The buyer sets the price.
The buyer is capable of getting things super cheap.
If the prices were stabilized by transparent listing prices and/or no bidding, they would never dip.

I'm not positive such a system would be more welcome to the playerbase.

The funny thing to me is... We're all buyers and sellers in this system.
While there are players that focus more on one aspect and/or enjoy delving into those aspects more... we still all benefit from the same systems on both sides of the equation.

    A god with a gun

Just a useless addition to the what is magic tangent...

Not that this applies to this world, that world or anyone else's personal definitions (but it may help, or just simply be interesting enough for sharing)...

I suppose it is entirely from my days playing AD&D in the Forgotten Realms that makes me okay with this pseudo-explanation of magic.

In that world, there was basically a stream of magical energy (Possibly a natural part of the universe/omniverse and all... they called it the Magical Weave, I think) that could be tapped into.
Whether it be through items, rituals/spells/components, natural abilities, endowment or whatever... a person could use that magical energy to do things.

I like the general aspect of that, in so much as the magical energy is a natural resource to be tapped into that is basically an anything power.
Through rituals, studies, artifacts or super abilities, a being could manage to manipulate that magical energy to perform just about anything (Of course, most beings are limited to the great discoveries and findings of wizards who have gleamed the ways to create predictable results).

So, basically magic is an energy source that has the anything power and, if you're capable, you might be able to manipulate it in various (infinite) ways.

However... the distinction between actual spellcraft/magic using and science is always an issue. In this case, they seem to treat anything that uses the power of the magical energy to be magic and separate it from any other natural resource one would use for technological and scientific advancements.
  3. I wanted to leave my previous (hopefully helpful) reply on its own, hehe.

-You sound like a fairly new player - not brand spankin' new, but not a vet, either (and if so, welcome!)

-You are full of enthusiasm and desire to get things rolling, meet new people, and put people together. (and if so, double great!)

-You are not the sort of person to hang back, and wait for fun to happen to you. You take the initiative and create fun and friendships. (TRIPLE great!)

You really sound like your heart and your intentions are all in the right place. I think I hear you saying a bit of "but wait... I really think I'm right here! This WORKS!" You sound like you have pulled together a lot of people, and I'm guessing they're newer players who might not have any real idea where to start to meet people, and get involved. I really do wish there were maybe something established to do exactly that, and if you are able to do it, that is fabulous! Seriously, God bless ya!

So I think you might not be quite understanding some of the responses that you've been getting, and it has nothing to do with what is - or isn't - spam. What people are reacting to is that in THIS game (maybe it's fine in other games) recruiting sight unseen is bad manners. Blind invites to sg's is just something Is Not Done. If you ARE doing it, then you are immediately suspect, and thought of as either a) a goof who doesn't know better (and who wants to join an sg by someone who doesn't know what they're doing?), or b) a jerk/user/creepy guy preying on newbies. This comes from personal experiences or word of mouth about people who are just looking for prestige for their sg's, and have used nice people, and treated them like meat. And that's how you come across, using your approach. Maybe not elsewhere. But here, yes.

The vast majority of people in this particular game are the nicest people you'll ever want to meet. Just amazing people! But they are not weak, spineless nice. Well, they are superheroes! But not only that, they are aware that they are the vast majority here, and just don't tolerate the jerks. You don't have to stop all the good stuff you're doing. Not at all! Just modify your approach in such a way that you don't come across badly.

That's the way to go: spamming, grinding out prestige, more uncaring ceaseless spam, grind out prestige. It's SG building 101, fast track base building 101, How I built an SG base in 34 days by Howard B Jerk.
I am with Hot Mike, who has time to create a toon, start a team, chat it up, ask if anyone wants to join SG, quit team, start team, chat it up, ask if anyone wants to join SG, blah, blah, blah. Just start the spamming mills and watch the prestige roll in. I start SG's all the time and lord help any poor sucker logged in when I get a hankering for recruitment. That's the American way, high speed, high efficiency, recruitment. Like Hot Mike said leave the namby pamby chatin to Chuckles the Clown.

That was my interpretation and theory, at least.

The easiest way to do it is to hit the Multi-Quote button that is to the right of the Quote button.
You can hit that on each post you wish to include, as you read through.
And then when you're ready, hit REPLY or a final QUOTE and all of the previously selected Multi-Quoted replies will appear in your new reply.
I think there is a limit of 6 multi-quotes using that method (not positive on that number).

You could also open up a quoted reply in a new tab for each and every post you want to include, and then copy and paste them all into one final reply of your own.

    EDIT:
You can also type [ QUOTE = username ] (without the spaces) and place the quoted text afterward. Then follow it with [ /QUOTE ] (again, without the spaces).

What I am not sure about is what the code is to make the little "view post" triangle clicky thing that links to the original post you are quoting!
That's where actually using the quote and/or multi-quote buttons save me the trouble!
    (And, no problem, Valerika!)
  5. And again... Not sure what the disconnect was between you and the suggestions of Elec/Elec Blasters (Versatile, more than just blam blam fighitng), Warshades (even more versatile and different than normal)...
Corruptors and Dominators also have a lot to them beyond just damaging.
    Defenders too...

I saw lots of potential, but more resistance instead of interest.
    *shrugs*

    Best of luck, mate!

You can play games with semantics all you want, but a lot of us are aggrivated with being strung along waiting for the incarnate content. If you're not, that's great, but acting like there is no reason at all for some of us to feel the way we do is ridiculous. It's a valid argument that they've missed a lot of release dates recently, and most customers don't like it when the person they are doing business with is consistently late with providing products or services.
    The problem is...
The whole delay of the Alpha Slot has been played out in other threads and still has legitimate places to post about it.
This I19 update is simply about the fact that some showstoppers prevented the early estimate of I19's arrival.
Yet, people drag up the Alpha Slot, Incarnate delays as some vast offense from the Devs and include this delay as yet another failure...
It's not semantics... it is stupidity.

What are these multitudes of delays and failure to meet release dates that you speak of?
  7. In...polite...

    Not polite... but... INpolite!!

    Haha
Sorry, just popped into my mind (in reference to the infamous bit).
    (It's impolite)

    Anyways, haha...

Since you posted this and ask the open forum here...

I honestly thought you were the one receiving the tell and calling the teller the rude one... And I was right on the same page as that.

So... No. In my opinion, you were impolite.
If you really want to send tells to recruit (No, that is not an inherently rude thing to do) I'd prefer some actual friendly, politeness...
I don't understand why people are without any politeness with tells.

Hi there! Pardon me, I don't mean to bother you, but I was wondering if you're looking for a good SG to join

Feel free to say things in your own ways, but I generally like to say Hello to people and either make sure they're interested or apologize if I just assume so.

When they replied that they have an SG already... You just explained your excuse for not knowing that before sending the tell. Instead, try saying "I'm sorry..." and then explain, if you wish. And, why not type out "before" instead of b4? Is it really that difficult? Not everyone meshes well with that style of typing, so it doesn't do you much benefit.

Also... Many people prefer to join SG's based on some knowledge and experience with the people involved. Just up and joining any old SG that sends invites to unknown players can be a big turn off for them.
You don't know if they have similar interests at all.

Seriously, what you posted is you doing wrong, not the other person.
The other person was having a bit of fun with it, in calling out the problems of that recruitment method. They may not have been as nice as could be, but I didn't see anything really wrong.

    Best of luck!

And they thought they might be able to get it done before then (because they wanted to get it done before then).

There hasn't even been a delay... Since all they said was that they were hoping for the week before Thanksgiving, but, if it wasn't ready by then, it would come afterward.
Their hopes were dashed by some bugs that they obviously couldn't overcome quickly enough.
We'll just have to wait and see if they can overcome it before things truly have to be delayed.

I suppose, if it was smooth enough to send live, they felt like they'd have those couple of days before the holiday, in case anything needed to be fixed on live.
  9. I love the idea of this contest!
I think the results should be a lot of fun and I hope to see more of the costume creation lovers take part in this.

I do not know PumBumbler other than I met him about a year ago when I entered another contest he put together.
He seems like a great community member and puts together some good times and amazing prizes!

    Wow, way to be obnoxious.
It is a cross server event.
You design the costume for someone else (They may even be from Justice) and someone else designs your costume. The fashion show/judging takes place in-game on Justice.
If you or the other character don't have certain things unlocked for that character, oh well! Design with that in mind.

I don't understand the fear involved in not having a leveled character on the server.
He extends his invites to anyone and everyone. And with today's global emails and transferring capabilities... that's pretty awesome.
It's, you know... a chance to meet new people and stuff too. For those who are... friendly and such.

As for being at a disadvantage?
Well... I entered a contest on Justice (I play on Virtue) and won first prize in both categories... with my level 4 character.

If you need Vanguard, Roman or unlocked weapons to feel like you have a chance... practice more (kidding... it's just... what's the problem??).

This is a chance to have some fun.
I find the entire cooperation level, trust, mutual partners and competition aspects combined with the design challenges to be a lot of fun and the prizes are remarkable.
To say to the guy putting this together... "Go back to your server forum"... Is just ridiculous.

In the forums that houses one of the most prolific threads "Post Your Best Costume", it is entirely appropriate for Pum to post here and entirely inappropriate for anyone (I don't care if you are Jim F-ing Lee) to tell someone to P off like that.
    Unbelievable, hehe...

Anyways... Don't let some grumpy territorial ignoramus turn you off of Pum's contest.
This is a great idea, a fun challenge and experiment on the cooperation level of players from all servers and it'll be capped off with some fun on his home server (Which, I've found to be a rather welcoming lot over on Justice).

    Lastly... Thanks, Pum!

Hehe, yeah, that's cute and I get it, but it really doesn't match at all.

You see, in reality, I pay for a game that I enjoy to play.
I enjoy it in its current state. I don't pay for future promises, other than that the game will be there for me to play for the next period of time I have paid for (And past experiences have told me that even that is not guaranteed with this industry).

They haven't failed to deliver a single bleeding thing that I was owed.

If/when they make changes to the game that I do not like, I will stop paying and get up to something else.

    I don't pay for a product that doesn't satisfy me and I don't count on future improvements/additions.
Sure, sometimes there are future additions that get me a bit excited and I'm eager to play with those new toys, but my enjoyment never hinges on that and I prefer not to consider it much until it is here.

Best of luck with your method.

Working and reworking and debugging code is not quite as simple as flipping hamburgers.
    Sometimes problems arise.
If you want to be an all-assuming, rude, negative voice, you can sit here and criticize, make fun of and blame sloppy or inefficient work for there being problems... But it doesn't really say much about yourself.
  15. I agree with Winterminal's suggestions on archtypes (Although, yes, Warshade could be great for you as well!).

My sweet spot is the Electric/Electric Blaster.
I can shoot things at range and up close, pound them with powerful melee attacks, immobilize and hold enemies, drain their endurance... And I enjoy the thrill of being somewhat of a glass cannon, in that Blasters have low hitpoints and little-to-no-defense.
They sometimes call the all Electric Blaster the Blaptroller, because you Shoot like a Blaster, Punch like a Scrapper and Control like a Controller (Obviously to smaller degrees).
So, that powerset combo is another option that is somewhat of a Jack of many trades (not all).

Scrappers (And Brutes) are a lot of fun, very strong and survivable.
All of these archtypes, obviously, have a lot of options within them between the different powersets. So, different powersets can be different stories as to what they do well or best.

I've heard that Electric Melee/Shield Defense Scrappers are quite powerful.
Honestly, pick just about any combination and you'll do well.
I love my Dark Melee/Regeneration Scrapper. And am enjoying a Martial Arts/Super Reflexes Scrapper.

If you don't want to be worried with having to struggle to survive as much as a Blaster does, Scrappers (And Brutes are very similar... a little more defense and very slightly less damage overall [at least, on average]) just might be for you.

It may not work for you, but my advice is to imagine a character, something that seems fun to you and maybe even something with a bit of a backstory to it... And then realizing that character in-game turns into a whole new level of fun.

    EDIT:
Oh, and Blasters' and Scrappers and Brutes (And Dominators too, I suppose) are primarily about dealing damage. So, you get your attacks early on and should be more effective and powerful and fun for what you are describing as your interests.

Starting off as a Controller may have been a bad thing for you. For some, it is their favorite and may have been the best move for them, but the great aspect of variety in this game can sometimes have bad results, as people try out things that aren't well suited to their tastes.
  16. I have not shopped around at all since then, but I bought the Complete Collection for $29.99 at Best Buy on the day it launched.
That was a particularly nice deal.

And, as you said... you get a month's play, so... You can view it as -$15.

I'm not saying you're wrong to not feel the need to get it yet (There are other cool aspects, the costume pieces, the ability to switch sides, the content within Praetoria is expansive and fun, the ability to make Heroic Brutes or Villainous Blasters, etc), but I don't think it is really accurate to label the price as really "greedy" (But that's just my opinion, so no big deal).

For a game that has not done many paid for additions, over its 6+ years, a relatively low priced expansion is pretty reasonable.

For your interests and all, I'd suggest forking over the 15 to get a bigger taste. In ten days, if you like it, fork over 10 more dollars and, for 25 bucks, you have a full game to play for two months (50 of those days with the new expansion).
  17. Oh... If we were to make a Super Team based around this...
Maybe, instead of a sole Tanker... We should have ONE of these:

    Best Guide Ever:
A Guide To Misery: Assault Rifle/Ice Manipulation for the Almost-Suicidal

(For those who haven't ever seen that, hehe)
  18. So long as you don't join speed teams with it, that is awesome.
I, personally, would love it. However, I don't play for speed and efficiency.
    Good luck!!

  19. Heya!
You can absolutely use your old account (If you remember the info and/or it was banned or anything, hehe)!

It is a shame you missed it... They just had a reactivation weekend where you could have logged into your old account for free.
Other than re-upping your account (Or starting a new one), I don't think there is any way to hop on and check things beyond the Free Trials.
And yeah, the Free Trial is rather limited (It's great how it stops RMT spammers and stuff from bothering us, but it does put major limitations on legitimate potential customers).

If you can afford the $15, I suggest re-upping the old account and hop on to check things out.
If you do, post here and let everyone know. I am sure you can get a bunch of help and stuff, as people around here usually fall over each other to do so, hehe.

I love the game. As you know, it's a matter of personal taste, so I'll not try to sell you on anything (I'm no good at that anyway).

For checking things out right now, you really don't need to pick up Going Rogue right away.

You'd just miss out on Starting a character in Praetoria (And seeing those zones), the four new powersets: Demon Summoning, Dual Pistols, Electric Control and Kinetic Melee.
With Power Customization and Power Proliferation, you'll find some fun new things right off the bat... Some new Task Forces, Strike Forces... Tip Missions for characters above level 20.
Probably a bunch of things I'm forgetting!

Hope you give it a try, as most usually find it to their liking!

I know some of these things don't include all the packs... Not sure if there usage of "booster packs" here is all inclusive or not.

I have been planning to get the Wedding Pack for a long while.
It mostly only has parts for female characters that interest me (And I, somewhat surprisingly, have no female characters), but ever since AE came out... I haven't been able to properly make some friends' characters in there (due to the missing costume pieces).

I was actually planning to grab it this weekend, funny enough... Thanks for the word.

Hehe, the OP misrepresents WW's words a bit...

Regardless, I also disagree with WW's opinion on no weather just for the looks.

I don't care if Samuel thinks the word "immersion" is tossed around too much, none of what was said eliminates the qualities of immersion that well-done weather can add to a game's world. I don't discount appropriate words just because I think some people use them inappropriately.

I played a game for many years that had some very nice weather effects and it added a ton of fun for me and my group of friends.

Anyways... I'm not interested in quibbling... opinions are opinions.

I just wanted to say that, if I were in charge... While I certainly would not be rushing to make weather systems and effects in this game before addressing quite a few other things (Namely getting power customization for all power pools and such), if and when I would add weather (which I would like to do), I would rather it didn't have strong effects on game play (if any at all, which I'd be inclined to not have).

This game does not strike me as the kind to have rain negatively impact accuracy or something.
    We're super-powered peoples and things.
Unless it is super-powered rain and radioactive meteorite dust falling down on us... let it just be a visual and audio experience.
I could see adding small (TINY) buffs, maybe. However, coming up with buffs that work and cover all powers with a number of different weather effects... seems impossible to do well/logically and a complete waste of time.

I think weather would be great. However, I totally feel the opposite about its need to include some sort of game mechanic.
Based on WW's taste for role-play and immersion, herself, I would say that this comes more from including the time and resources involved and (knowing how much work it would be, especially as a world designer herself) that she can't justify doing it just for cosmetics.

I still think weather, in THIS game, should only be cosmetic (although, slipping and sliding could be cool with ice).

    Lastly...
I'm pretty certain (And I think it has been discussed previously) Paragon City has a bunch of Weather Controllers maintaining the daily weather we consistently have.
So... put that in your immersion pipe and enjoy!

Personally, I've often referenced the weather (especially in writings) where a background tv has the weatherman giving his forecast for "mostly clear skies and dry weather today in Paragon City".
