  1. You know, them expressing themselves like that lacked tact, for sure, but it's not really that big of a deal.
If you go around ignoring every player that might occasionally say something a bit stupid or rude, you might get a bit lonely.
More so... Everyone has a bad moment.
Try not to judge someone entirely based on a few seconds (even if they sort of did that themselves).

Seriously... beyond just this one silly little interaction, it's a good idea to not just assume someone who makes one poor decision is an utter jerk who you should never deal with again.

Sure, it sounds like an immature, vent-it-out freely, annoying sort of person... (I've met quite a few of those).
Maybe they'd had a string of rotten luck all day (all life maybe, hehe).
    Big deal.
Were you that hurt about it?

Maybe they were actually being nice... and just used that as an excuse, rather than say that you smelled (yes, stupid joke... sue me).

    My opinion,
While just spitting that out into Team Chat and quitting is not nice and hardly spreads a good feeling unto others, the personal preference is entirely okay.
I have to admit that I've often found Demons annoying.
I've never quit because of them or anything... so I'm not saying that.
However, there is not a thing wrong with someone following that personal rule if that is how they feel about it and/or what it takes to keep it fun for themselves.
The comment, though... is lame. I find explaining yourself goes a long way.

"((Ugg... I've had a raging headache all day and I really can't handle a Demon Master Mind. I'm sorry... not anyone's fault. I'm going to bail. No hard feelings. I hope you all have a great run and a fun time))"

Of course, some call me wordy.
I like to think of it as being communicative.

    Blah blah blah...

And, actually... looking at the quote again, he did say sorry.
Sometimes things are all about the context you read into the text.
With the lack of wordiness most people tend to have in games, I'd even back off of my own comments about just how bad of a comment it was from the Defender.
Despite my dedication to doing such deeds, I deem that this Defender doesn't demand my defense.
  2. You mean they have that much , but still...

    Haha, only kidding!

    Most excellent!!
Seriously. That makes me even happier to be here.
Hats off and thank you to NCSoft for the amazing donation.
  3. And clearly the EU playerbase has had a rather different experience.
(Unless I am mistaken) Their entire playerbase has two English-Language servers.
That alone creates a different atmosphere than the NA playerbase's community.
I pretty much only play on one server, but I interact with several on these boards that only play on some other server and so on.

I just think it is worth reminding people that differing values are placed in different things (not just because of EU/NA) and that, just because you or I don't feel as strongly about something it doesn't mean someone else is inherently wrong to feel the way they do.

Of course there are extremes that could be classified as altogether unhealthy, but I don't think we've really seen any signs of such a thing.

While global names may not be the thing that does it for you... there is probably some silly thing that would upset you if it were tampered with, removed and/or otherwise altered.
    It happens.
Hopefully things will work out well.

EDIT: Oh, and Liz, do let everyone know how that process turns out (as I'm sure you will). That scenario (inactive NA accounts of your own) seems to be the most likely culprit in messing things up.
Of course, I'm imagining that the Paragon Studios team will do something to counteract that, but it is always best to do whatever you can yourself!

That feeling is just too beautiful! It really is! And that feelings lasts for about a total of 20 seconds before you go in to add something else, and then it breaks everything...
Heeheehee... I know exactly what you're talking about there.

I have similar endeavors that carry that same effect.

One being old fashioned cel animation.
Now, drawing is certainly something that you can love doing more than pecking out code and all...
But when you're drawing 12 pictures for one second of animation time and spend hours and hours doing this... It changes things!

However... Seeing those still drawings COME TO LIFE... Wow.
Sometimes performances can even be this way. There is a lot of work behind rehearsing and getting things to the level that a near-perfectionist is happy with... but that moment of the actual performance... it's worth all of the trouble multiplied by an inordinate magnitude, hehe...
But yeah, manipulating seemingly mundane things over long periods of time... but then witnessing your creation coming to life and doing what you wanted it to on its own is a very powerful feeling!

Anyway, sorry... your post was well written and made think on the bliss you speak of!

As for the entire notion of this thread...
Bah... I promised myself today that I'd stay out of such things for a while, hehe...

However, I do think that that comment is wrong.

I'm an artist, poet and a songwriter.
If I paint, write a poem or record a song that is inspired by such events... If it is part of my process in digesting these things... if it is part of my process of sharing my feelings...
Is that really any different than any other creative outlet that another person chooses to pursue and display feelings and thoughts on such complex matters?
  7. Yeah, I mean... addressing it or not addressing it, if you're (the universal you/me/us) sitting at a computer indulging any casual pastime, you're deluding yourself, ignoring realities of greater things you could be doing, etc.

    No current incidents change that.

I'm not advocating bringing it into the game, but I also don't see either way (including it into your make-believe or ignoring it) as inherently wrong.

We should all turn off our computers and go out and help someone.
    There.
We're all a bunch of jerks, ignoring reality and dodging greater responsibilities (no matter what we've done while we're not playing).

    Hehe

I've wondered... with the Japanese workers currently doing their best in the nuclear power plants... when would it be okay to pay tribute to them by converting their heroism into the realm of fantasy?
I, personally, don't think these things are really time-sensitive, but I understand that different people have different feelings and all.

Black Light, I'm glad to see you feel a little less stressed about it after a bit of time and I hope it works out okay, when all is said and done.
I never really cared too much about my global name (even though many use it as the name they know me as [but I have about three that people use... my forum name/main character, my global and my guild portal username... So, I realized that my attachment to my global name is not as strong as others']). It's also just a made up name that is not likely to be used by anyone else.
Anyway, none of that matters, I just figured I'd share it, hehe.

I highly suggest waiting and seeing and don't worry about it right now. There is not much you can do anyway... so, worrying does no good. And, if something can be done about it, worrying is still not needed.

One last thing, with all respect. The English word you were intending to use is "lose" with one o.
Just for the record, your English was excellent and everything was translated perfectly well. Just that one mistake made a few times (losers, losing and lose).
Loose with two os is when something is less tight (loose screw, loose pants).

Don't worry about it. The English language has little traps set up just to make people trip up a bit... all to make others giggle, I think!
  9. I don't think it's inappropriate nor tasteless (the general idea. Individual concepts may change said opinions, hehe).
You do what you do, and what you can, and what you feel is okay.

Fictional heroic icons can be a wonderful expression of compassion... And serve as a wonderful boon of inspiration.

For me, seeing such tributes just gets a thumbs up and fills my heart a bit with shared compassion/concern.

Anyway, blah blah blah, hehe... Of course, people can be offended by anything. Best find your own beliefs, stick to them and be at peace with the fact that not everyone will agree.

    Tenzhi is correct.

And all of the Kinetic Melee attacks I remember seeing on a Shield user are one-handed. I am not positive that they all are, but I think they're all one-handed.

It's sort of cool (especially if you use one robotic arm or something), but I could see not wanting that as well.
  11. I don't accept Mystic Fortune for much of the same reasons that Fourspeed listed.
Mainly the sound (the one that remains for the duration of the buff, not the casting of it) and the visual.
I really dislike them (the timing of them is just on a weird tempo and rhythm that annoys me.. though, mainly because they annoy me in general... so, I'd always be anticipating it popping up and swirling around again, haha) and so don't want to deal with it. No big deal.

I love the popup. I usually just ignore it, but, if I can, I'll decline it.

I will accept it if 1) the character casting it includes some sort of Role-Playing reason (and my character either accepts or has no option) 2) if we're on an already noisy and flashy TF and I think we might benefit from the buff (extremely rare) 3) if we just got wiped repeatedly and we're pulling out all stops to stem the bleeding, hehe.

I don't have any characters that cast Mystic Fortune role-playing-wise.
I do keep it handy for times such as my above #3.

I do not mind anyone casting it on me though. I generally appreciate the thought and it does not bother or interfere with me in the slightest.
  12. Officers...

I've been a very bad boy...
  13. I said it elsewhere and I'll post it here...

There's a thing called art. Part of this product is just that (all of it, really).
They added in some vastly different appearances into the game with those animal heads and are sprinkling it into the game world for a bit of congruity.

As for the "slap in the face" comment...........

    LMAO

Some people might could use a good slap.

    I'm going to be nice...
Along with what twelfth said, this is also a bit of art.
They're just dressing things up with a little congruity. Vastly different looking appearance options were added... they're sprinkling it into the game world a bit.

The day you stop taking the time for the little things, is the day you should quit.

    Very cool.

I'd be hopeful that things like Liz Bathory and others have pointed out (their own inactive NA trial accounts [and, possibly any inactive trial account]) can be worked out.

While I see some global name sacrifices/changes being an inevitable aspect of such a merger, I do agree that taking veteran status into account would be best.

As I said earlier, I just hope that people don't get worked up about it right now.
Express the reasonable thoughts and opinions and place a bit of trust in things being worked out in a combination of fairness and feasibility.

    Best of luck to all!
  17. Yeah, I was just going to chime in that (besides possible memory/database/under-the-hood stuff [which could be a huge issue]) the UI is probably the main culprit.

Right now, we have the 5 slot window.
(This is not a rhetorical question) How would you go about designing the UI for more slots?

I'd say that the images in the window now are about as small as you'd want to go. So, I'd want to keep those costume images the same size. Would we need to scroll? Add a TAB? Page 1: 1-5 and Page 2: 6-10 (or whatever the numbers may be)

I tend to go with iconic looks for my characters and enjoy staying in that one costume (besides the occasional story arc twists that may result in different costumes)...
    However...
    • I do have different sorts of characters that call for more then just one look (including shapeshifters)
    • Bollocks to me if I only use one costume... plenty of people like to use more
    • Even with my "iconic" looks, I have masked, mask-off, battleworn, aura-options and secret identities (as well as some characters have different apparatus/outfits for different jobs). And, honestly, I'd often like more than one look for secret identities/casual clothing... As they may want with hat and without hat versions, etc. Work and out-of-work versions... Skiing and beach versions...
Obviously some of this can (and is) done by visiting the tailor...
But I can absolutely see value in having more than 5 slots.

Of course some of us will always want more, but I don't think it is unreasonable to up the amount over the years now and then.

I do like Tech's list of costume slot options.

Short of that... I've always felt that a costume slot should have been awarded at 50 (I can't count how many times newer players heading from 40 towards 50 have been disappointed when that comes up, hehe).

Definitely put me in the camp of MOAR.
I'm just curious (barring any other technical hurdles) what the UI should be for more slots!
  18. And the new Weekly target, quest... THING!

However, I've noticed a distinct lack of Animal Fur on Boots- FLAT

C'mon Team! Fix that bit of a silly oversight for the paid-for-pack, pah'lease!
  19. Arcana beat me to what I was just about to say, so...

Don't fret this. It'll all work out. It's happy fun stuff.
    Feedback is fine, of course.
Tech... Don't worry... I did not just start a new account with your global name just to spite you!

Seriously though, I'm sure it'll work out fine.
I can say that I wouldn't mind seeing a big name purge take place before then.
Also... The only thing any of us should really be "upset" about is "by the end of the summer".
Hehe... I was only wondering if it'd happen before I20 or with I20, heehee... A little over-eager, I guess!

    *fidgets*
  20. Welcome back!!

Yeah, maybe a few costume pieces and, under level 50, mainly just the Tip Missions.
Once you are level 20 and higher, you'll randomly/occasionally loot a Tip and that appears in your contact menu and you click on it, read it and do a one-of mission from it. Besides its impact in the whole Alignment Progression (You get two choices from reading the mission tip... One will lead you towards Heroism and the other Villainy [and their greyer in-betweens, sort of]), it's a little something different to do as you move along (and doing a bunch of them leads to getting Alignment Merits, which you can use to acquire specific Invention Recipes you might want).

I think you'll be happily surviving without it, based on your mindset and interests.
If/when you do want to pick it up, you should be able to find the Complete Edition somewhere for a good price which will include a Month's Play ($15 value), plus it has some extra costume bits, auras and emotes (all available from level 1 and up).

    Hope you enjoy coming back!

I am definitely looking forward to visiting Union and possibly getting involved in some of the role-play I've gotten to hear about.

And I shall do my best to type in the Queen's language with the respect that it deserves...
    <.<

Hehe, honestly, I already spell some words the proper way (I can't type theatre any other way) and I am used to much more.
I practically learned to read from my Asterix comics sent from my grandparents.

And, hey, I used to keep a French/English Dictionary on my desk for when I played another game on their unofficial French server... So, I suppose adapting and using real English on the EU servers would be appropriate.

I may as well chime in on topic with my most amazingly ignored and disregarded opinions!

I agree with many others (especially with how Oedipus and Arcana have summed things up) that the whole idea behind the Lore Slot (and other aspects of the incarnate/well stuff) seems like a bit of a mistake, to me.
That's really just opinion though... as, an artist is free to make "mistakes" that will leave some people not-entirely-happy with the results.
Usually, that just means too bad for those of us who don't like how it is.

Still... My reasons for not liking the whole Lore Slot is basically that the idea of including Pets at all goes a bit beyond what I was looking for in End-Game progression.
However, (and that should be a big gigantic however) if I/you/we don't really have to use each and every power from each and every slot... and we can get by quite sufficiently (if not stupendously) without using certain one or two powers/slots along our way to kicking some epic buttocks...
Then no real harm or foul at all (and bonus for those who do want such a thing as a pet power).

If using and/or obtaining the pet power is a major part of functionality and/or progression... then... Never mind customization, I'd be perfectly willing (and wanting) to wait quite a long while as they re-figured that entire plan.

    Thems are just my opinions...
And no matter what any fool may wish to paint them as, they're just my casual opinions and observations about the matter.

So, (Not that I, nor likely many other posters here, think that any such delay will happen) I'd have zero issue with the Lore Slot being delayed.
However, my dislike of the power wouldn't really be fixed with Non-Praetorian options. The whole notion of summoning essences of the well in humanoid manifestations (or the like) is just beyond anything I'm interested in playing out with any of my characters.
Customization (or plethora of options), of course, could allow for more wiggle-room/hand-waving/re-writing of where/what/how the story of this NPC companion fits in.

I just hope that some of these Incarnate Powers can be treated like power selections from your Primary/Secondary... where it is perfectly fine to skip over/not choose some.
