Quote:How do you figure that's half of a t1 line?Shouldn't this be 150GB/month = 5GB/day (150/30 = 5), or am I missing something?
150GB/month = 5GB/day = 0.208GB/Hour = 208,000KB/Hour = 57.78 KB/Sec = 462.24 Kb/Sec, which is still a respectable speed.
12 Mbps is double 24 times the numbers you are talking about...
I run vent and a MMO several hours a day, Trillian, often netflix and skype. Not to mention 10-20 youtube vids.... And my PC runs 24/7... maybe not always playing games or looking at the net but i don't turn off my pc so my IMs and such are on 24/7 -
as of may 2nd AT &T will be implementing data caps.... 150GB for DSL and 250GB for u-verse...
I don't know how this will effect me, but I watch a lot of streaming video... and that's sorta the main thing along with gaming that is going to be effected...
Youtube, Netflix, microsoft, Sony, MMOs, and steam are all going to lose money because we as consumers will not be able to use those services as much due to these data caps...especially if they become wide spread...
How do you all feel about this? -
Quote:Yeah, see, you didn't listen in the other thread, as all that was covered and it was shown you are wrong on every point you are trying to make above. See, as I stated and shown many time in many places, I can change my opinion and my beliefs when actually shown to be wrong, but that doesn't mean that I have to not make an opinion on what I've already seen about a topic.Nah, see, I try not to judge a movie before I've actually seen it. I avoid spoilers, I don't pay attention to reviews, and I give it my honest effort to like or dislike it. That's called being reasonable.
You, on the other hand, have already made up your mind months before the movie is out that it's trash, based on some half-baked trailers and whatever fanboi sites you troll.
I might dislike the movie after I've seen it, but only because the actual movie disappointed me, not someone else's opinion of it. You dislike it before you see it, based on someone else's opinions and biases, and there's a big difference in the two, and if you haven't figured that out by now, there's no hope for you. You post in these threads with your "opinion" but since you haven't given it a fair chance, why should anyone care what you say? If you had waited till after the movie to say "It sucks, and here's why," you'd have a leg to stand on.
Like it, don't like it, I don't care. Just pass judgment with some first hand knowledge of it first, and a trailer doesn't count. We all know how most trailers have little footage that actually make it into the movie, and how early into production they get made. -

Why is this the direct to dvd thing and that other trash going on the big screen?

Quote:Hal's death was the end of an era in two ways...Except that now Hal Jordan and Barry Allan ARE back as Green Lantern and Flash.
Also, Hal Jordan's death may have been MEANT to signal the end of an era, but ended up being more of a signal to the beginning of nerd rage.
btw I consider Hal's death to be from the point he went insane to the point in Final Night where he actually dies...
First, he killed the GLC and in the DCU they've been around, alone for billions of years so you could coulld look at DCU overall history as "very early era", "Manhunter era" "GLC era" and then the "Spectrum era"
Secondly, with Zero Hour it was the end of the era of multiple futures for one universe for the readers. became a streamlines universe with one past and one future. -
The problem with this "death" is that noone cares. No marvel character is iconic enough other than maybe Spiderman... and for spiderman it's not so much the death that people would care about but rather the ending of spiderman's story.
When they kill Superman it's big news.
When they "kill" Batman it means development in the bat-family.
When they reboot Wonder Woman noone cares because they do it so often >.>
When they kill a Flash it means something big is going down in DC.
When they kill a Robin it hits a nerve with characters and people alike.
When they killed Hal Jordan it was the signaling of an end of an era in the DCU.
It's because just about every character in DCU you have something of a connection to and even if the name is going to be back probably, it doesn't necessarily mean that character is... and it almost always means something to someone.
In Marvel everyone always comes back and no deaths ever really effect you or the universe. The major events don't signify anything and at the end of their events the status quo is always returned to rather than the universe evolving... and if the universe does evolve nothing on screen is effected. It is always the thousands of mutants off screen no one knows about that aren't mutants any more. -
It should be noted that what Welling was doing is called, shock, acting... The character was trying to "mimic" geekier mannerisms and the fact you make that comment shows he succeeded in getting it across that he didn't easily slip into that persona.

I'm curious as to your thoughts on this... It seems that Sci-fi is a dead or dying genre...or rather Space sci-fi, not just any sci-fi, but the ones that talk about exploring space and such...
Star Trek
Star Wars
Far Scape
Mission Genesis
Serenity
Star Gate
Lexx
etc...
It seems that every space ship sci-fi show is being canceled or are gone... -
Quick, get the Kryptonite! or Cassandra Cain!
-
i was meh on that entire thing... until the end...
Lion-O "Did you learn your lesson, Slithe?"
Lion-O is high pitched voice while moving Slithe's jaw "Yes I did, Lion-O"
That made me crack up. -
KF and Artemis will eventually hook up... It's just how it happens in stories.

Quote:Stop. Reread.GASP! Changing something that was written in a comic?! Good thing comics themselves never change anything at all and stick with characters original stories at all times.
Gimme a break, what's wrong with going through an arc where Superman and Superboy have to get to know each other and actually develop a relationship instead of having some artificially happy Father/Son dynamic forced on us.
Pretty sure if I discovered a clone that was created to kill me my first instinct wouldn't be "Lets go to a baseball game and I'll be the bestest Dad ever!"
#1. The comics got it right given the characters.
#2. Superman and Superboy have never had a perfect relationship -
I think the whole Superman rejecting Superboy angle is bad and shows a lack of knowledge about Superman. Superman has, in all incarnates I know of, been extremely possessive about anything remotely Krpytonian and takes responsibility for it even if it isn't his fault... such Superboy.
This should have Superman trying to be a father figure and Superboy trying to get out from under Superman's shadow, but still wanting Superman's respect and approval...
Wait, that's how they are in the comic... it makes sense so they changed it... idiot creators messing up the stuff done right v.v -
Quote:I'm not completely sold on it either, but it would be a great running joke...again a play off the Birds who aren't officially called the birds in universe. They could be like...If Cassandra Cain is there, then so am I.
Throw in Slobo as the token male, and I'd be in heaven.
Not sold on the name though. Still, with that line-up, it certainly wouldn't be a deal-breaker.
"There goes those Chicks!"
"We are not the ******* chicks!" -
It randomly came to me...
It would be awesome if there was a comic featuring a team made up of...
Empress, Misfit, Secret, Black Alice, Cassandra Cain, Arrowette, and Red Tornado's daughter as a "base" intel helper person.
They would be called something like "The Chicks" which is a pun and a play off the idea of the Birds of Prey. Young Birds are Chicks. Womens are Chicks. It works.
I love these characters, they're free to do it, and it would be an awesome team. Not only that but they have a nice intro arc with Black Alice and Misfit being related and trying to figure ou how they got separated. Obviously they'd go to Oracle to get help and that could lead to "having to go into a dangerous area" and Cass just happening to be around so she goes with them. Oracle could then see the benefit in having such a team in terms of both controlling these three and just training these young female heroes, but has her hands full so she recruits Red Tornado's daughter...who recruits the other members since they live together ^.^
What do you guys think? -
Wayne Foundation - Started by Thomas Wayne to give back to the citizens of Gotham what crime had stolen in the form of a lot of Gold that was offered to Thomas Wayne's father that was lost in a cave on the Estate.
Neon Knights - Formed by Tim Drake to help with gang war fare.
Small Business loans given out to Gotham businesses.
The Wayne Educational Grant or whatever it's called, notably putting a few major characters through school... I think Harley Quinn is one of them... as is Stephanie Brown.
A major Financial supporter of Arkham Asylum.
A major Financial Supporter of Gotham Hospitals.
A major Financial supporter of Leslie's Free Clinic.
Another Educational grant set up so that those who can show that they are on the good and narrow growing up rather than crime they get full paid college tuition.
Many criminals who are reformed or are caught by Bats and don't give him a hard time are referred to Wayne Enterprises for various positions and he does check on it.
He shells out for Bane or was for a time.
Jean-Paul had but to ask and he was paid for.
He finance the JLA obviously ^.^ or is a large chunk of their financing.
Not to mention the adopting of or possible adopting of several children.
I believe he hosts the policeman's ball every year.
Contributes to several charities a month and hosts several charities annually.
He also recently financed the Mayor and used that leverage to get Gordon his job back.
Nope...he's above the system and could do way more for the down trodden...
If you live in Gotham you practically get a free ride as long as you're not corrupt and/or are willing to actually do something other than crime...
The question really is, why is crime so prevalent in such a situation? In the end the only real conclusion is the conclusion that Gordon made... the whole of the city is a mad house. -
Quote:There are a number of reasons why the criminals are there. Among them is 2 major "prisons" around Gotham. Blackgate and Arkham. Not familiar with AC2, but the "progress" thing about Bruce and Gotham actually is one of the things that bugs me about Batman.
Look at all the time, money, and effort he's sunk into protecting Gotham and trying to make it a better place. Has he made any progress? For all his reputation and how much thugs are supposed to be terrified of "the Bat" they're still in Gotham, aren't they?
Quote:Unless Gotham is supposed to be Bruce's own personal hell that he can never actually fix. I remember reading something about a story that either alluded to or specifically said there was some mystical reason as to why Gotham is so utterly corrupt to it's core. Did anything like that ever make it in canon?
Quote:Now I understand that publishing reasons of why Gotham can't be cleaned up, but considering how, for the most part, they build on what's happened previously, it sure as hell seems that Bruce isn't helping anything and Gotham's actually -worse- off for all Bruce's done.
Also the person who mentioned the AC2 thing... go read No Man's Land and the issues after it. -
Quote:Bane is the son of King Snake and for a time he was possibly the son of Thomas WayneThough I still don't understand why only "classic" villains can be considered, if that is the case, then wouldn't Darkseid be disqualified from Superman's Rogues Gallery because he was originally a New Gods villain?
How is Bane "old money" rich? He grew up in prison because his father wasn't around to serve the sentence.
Does Ra's still control the League of Assassins? If so, I think having a personal army and your beck and call would have to count for something against Bruce only having the Bat Family.
While Ra's is extremely wealthy and it is even said that he has something like 100x more resources... But that is not "personal wealth" per say. Bruce can be said to have billions to trillions of dollars of personal wealth (aside from Wayne Enterprises' corporate holdings) which Ra's can not... This means that Ra's "corporate" holdings far exceeds Bruce's, but not his "Personal" holdings.
Also I was thinking...
Another theme one could say is that of the struggle between the controlling forces of society. Bruce representing Corporation. Gordon Representing Government. Batman and his cohorts (more specifically Oracle) the will of the people. And the Villains being the Criminal elements.
But we know the theme around Batman is largely that of the exploration of psychology of what someone with Batman's psyche would do, and how if one of those elements were twisted slightly how that would turn out. And one could use a lot of various example to point this out as many Batman centric movies use as special features in their DVD/Blu-ray release >.> -
Quote:Penguin, Hush, Bane, R'as al Ghul, Black Mask, and a few others are all "old money" Rich.None of them possess wealth on the Wayne family's scale or come from the same patrician background as Bruce Wayne. Only Ra's, though from an entirely different culture, could conceivably count as an aristrocrat, but he's a self-made man who has amassed similar wealth over the centuries.
As far as "no one on the same level" Of course not. Wayne is the richest person on the planet. The only competing person is Luthor, though any one that estimates their wealth within what they do and such that is a joke to say that it is a comparison, but none the less Lex is often stated as equivalent to Bruce and as such one would expect if this is a "Class War" Bruce wouldn't have a problem with Luthor... but that's not the case. He does have a problem with Lex, lets his stuff get messed up, and cons him into fixing up Gotham and then having to walk away and all to BENEFIT the lower class/middle class... and lets not forget his opting to finance a whole bunch of lower class people to rebuild Gotham's businesses.
If there is an over riding theme in Batman for a theme about class it is that Good business is good for the little people and the environment. If it's not good for both of them it isn't good for Big business either. -
Quote:No. He "appears" to ignore them. Especially with Alfred. Alfred will say something and it is later shown that his advice is th key to everything OR it will be shown that if Bruce actually ignore Alfred that something will go wrong and he will later apologize to Alfred and say that Alfred was right.Batman respects the intention of the law, and the folks that chose to serve honorably. He doesn't respect their capabilities, though. He also generally feels that he's the only person who understands the villains he deals with (well, except maybe for Alfred and he's blown his advice off plenty of times, too), and that whatever plan he comes up with is the only one that will work. There is definitely some dictator in him. That indicates a superiority complex that obviously stems from his parents murder ("I know better than you what it is like to see..."), but also has origins in his privileged upbringing and social status.
Quote:When you get down to it, Bruce Wayne is a billionaire heir who would normally have no difficulity in his life at all, but he had unexpected suffering at the hands of a lower-class crook. Which also brings to mind a crackpot comparison of Batman to Buddha I read a while ago- a modern-day prince who sees great suffering for the first time in his life, and sets about a quest of transcendental change and learning to right that suffering? (which gets extra lulzy when you bring in the Superman=Jesus metaphors we all love)
Bruce would have experienced a lot of these problems and as such is not like the Buddha who had never experienced anything bad in his life.
Not only that...
Joker = Rich - Super Smart - Great Fighter
Penguin = Rich/Formerly Rich - Great Fighter
Riddler = Could be rich if he wanted - Super Smart
Catwoman = Rich - Great fighter
Hush = Formerly Rich... lost his fortune to Catwoman - Smart - Great fighter
Poison Ivy = Rich - Super Smart - Super Powered
Harley Quinn = Rich - Smart - Super Powered
Scarecrow = Middle Class - Super Smart - Great Fighter - Super Powered
Bane = ???? - Super Smart - Great Fighter - Super Powered
R'as al Ghul = Super extra Rich - Super smart - Great Fighter
Victor Fries = Upper Middle Class - Super Smart - Super Powered
Black Mask = Rich - Clever
Dr. Hugo Strange = Rich - Super Smart - Decent Fighter
Two-Face = Upper Middle Class - Smart - Great fighter
The Ventriloquist = Rich - Smart
Killer Croc = Poor - dumb - Good Fighter - Super Powered
The Mad Hatter = Middle Class - Super Smart - Gadget powered
Man-Bat = Upper Middle Class - Super Smart - Super Powered
This is pretty much all of Batman's "rogues gallery." A majority of them are rich. Not middle class, not poor. How they got their wealth is another issues, but they are regardlessly rich for the most part. -
Since I did not read the last 2 pages i'll respond to the OT...
No.
The guy is talking more about ho he does things rather than the why he does things... to which he clearly is ignorant of.
Batman doesn't allow other masks to operate in Gotham because they cause more problems as shown during No Man's Land with Supes. And also because he doesn't want them to fall into the life he has. He understands that his life sucks in terms of the things that matters...or at least he is so guarded that he can't enjoy the fruits of his labor. Again as pointed out to Gordon when Batman talks to Gordon about huntress and says she reminds him of someone else. He didn't barbara or Dick or Tim or Stephanie or any to do what he did. The only one he ever DID say you come work with me is Todd and that went to hell.
Batman also dealt with the crime in politics because he had to. They were corrupt and impeding justice, not because he wanted to. He respects authority and respects what the police represents and expects them to treat him as they would a vigilante more or less. He also is a private citizen and expects to be treated as such. He doesn't wear a gun not because of some oath or fear, but because it is not his place. And further he expects respect from the police as much as they'd treat a citizen. For example, he took the gun off an officer when she shot him. She felt bad. She knew she did wrong. And others said that Bats would never take your gun unless you shot him and implied that they all knew that not only is that wrong but illegal.
He's also made it clear that h doesn't play judge, jury, executioner and respects the courts and when there is a conflict he says "Hey, do what you have to do. I get it, and I respect that"
He is not "above the law" and he does not "do as he pleases" Nor does he lord it over people. He does what he can in the best way he can. He has the ability to help in a particular way so he does. He does not take justice into his own hands but rather follows a strict guideline that keeps him respected and respectful of those institutions that are responsible for keeping law and order. -
This is Earth-16.
The only thing know about Earth-16 outside of this series is that batman and Superman either have or ran a simulation where they had gotten married to women and had children.
Robin is Dick Grayson.
Kid Flash is Wally West.
Superboy is Superboy
Aqualad is ... the guy who made his first appearance within the last few months and haven't taken on the role yet.
Miss Martian is the same char as usual.
So the only character on the team that is actually part of the New Earth Young Justice is Superboy. This show is actually my Teen Titans than Young Justice.
Also it seems the Comic series takes place in the same universe, but isn't the comic version of the universe, but rather extra stories. -
Just inagine if Batman's look was never updated >.>
