I like the idea in theory, but I do have a few thoughts.
First off, Posi mentions the original concern of the high cost 'gating' poorer users out of the process. Then at the end mentions how he thinks they might go for more than the Very Rare enhancements they're about to add even though they'll be not quite as rare as 'Very Rare'. Considering some people seem willing to pay 75 million for a 7.5% global recharge recipe this concerns me not just a little.
[/ QUOTE ]
The thing is though everyone can get one for free, or very close to it, by playing the game. He said it is in the drop tables at all levels so everyone can get one it just takes pacience.
[ QUOTE ]
Also, will this now be viewed as 'the' source of additional respec thus removing future 'freespecs' with power-changing issue releases?
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I hope it means precisely this. After all we have been getting free respecs left and right. We get them with each issue (or with the majority of them) and we get them as vetrans rewards, now this. -
No, never liked it! I actually almost canceled my account when it was announced.
-
I bought a box of Battle Packs and a box of boosters. I've played one game. I kinda like it. The mechanics do a decent job of emulating the MMO and it is fast paced enough.

Personally, I think the datamining of time spent in SG mode stinks. I don't know of a single SG out there that uses SG mode over an official SG costume and think it's a bad idea. I would rather have my SG dump 100 million a month in Influence into a base than be obligated to log in my character, enter a door mission, put him in SG mode, then go to bed just so I can build 'prestige' to pay base rent.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, my SG uses supergroup mode instead os a costume Slot for an SG costume. We voted and people just didn't want to use a slot for an official SG costume. We also use the SG mode almost exclusivle , at least when we are teamed with SG mates. Except for a few very brief times I never play out of SG mode, and neither does my co-founder, we havent since level 12 (both level 49 and were started durnig the two day head start).
I don't generally like this prestige system, but wanted to point out that there are those SG's that use and like the supergroup mode setting. We actually were excited to see everyone sporting the SG colors and Symbol (even though it looks like a big Target on our chest).
If they do decide to do this and do datamine I suppose that my SG will be sitting nicely.

I like this ability. I have had it make the difference on several occasions with my Archery blaster, but he is still fairly low level.
I am concerned that it kicks in a bit to late, by the time it does actually kick in you really cant sustain more than one to two more hits. It would be nice if it kicked in around 60% and still maxed out at 500% just spread it out a little more. Also It would be nice to gain either a Regen boost at that point (that would go away one we were back above the lowest % of a desperation bonus 40% currently) or a small boost in resistance to make us last one extra hit.
All in all I like the power though, it definatly adds the comic-booky flavor of the blaster giving it his all at the last moment. -
So far I love these changes. I loved it the first time I tried to excort the hostage out only to be ambushed on the way. It was one of those "I know I cleared this area, where did they come from" moments. The number of ambushes and composition is a little bad. The mission I was in sent three ambushes one right after the other, each with 1 lt and 4-5 minions. It got prety harry on my two man team when one of the team got defeated and the other had to deal with the whole ambush.
The waves of villians, wan a nice change of pace as well. One thing though, you need some indicator that you ar supposed to protect the object of their attention. I didn't even realize that I was supposed to be protecting the artifact untill it was 1/2 destroyed.
I haven't encountered the 'friendly heros' in anything except the Outbreak mission, and that was at the end after I had defeated all the villians. So I can't speak to that at this point.
Thanks -

You know I really hate to burst your bubble, but there was a Pen and Paper RPG called Heroes or something.
And it has been out for a while.
It had a diffrent system where you could build powers with pros (explosive radius) and cons (limited use) and you customized your characters stats with points opposed to picking a set Archetype.
The core book was a thick one at that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually there are several systems that fit this descritions loosely. I think your thinking of Champions that uses the Hero game system. You compleatly customise your character including building powers through a point buy system. You can enhance a powers with adders and advantages, and get point savings on powers with limitations. To date the Hero system is still my favorite game system, though I've heard complaints that it is a math intensive character generating system (advantages and limitations work like enhancers in CoH where the cost is figured by Power cost * (1+modifier) / (1+limitations) = total cost of power; where adders are added to the base cost of the power), meh I've never had much of a problem with it though, but I've been playing Hero system since 1982 so...
The M&M system (relatively new) is another point buy system but much more simplified. It is based on the d20 system though. The character generation is easier for many to grasp and the system is much more widely known.
Other systems that could fit are, Gurps Heros (G.U.R.P.S system), Heros Unlimited (? system), Abberant (Storyteller system), Silver Age Sentinals (Tri-Stat system, and d20 system versions). There are more that I can't think of right now. -

My guess is because Altlas Park is the first choice and Galaxy City is the second. A lot of people seem to just roll with the default, especially if they don't know the difference.
[/ QUOTE ]
I really don't care for Galaxy City. The zone seems too dark and is not as no-movement-powers friendly IMHO. -
[ QUOTE ]
If ya want 'vampric' powersets, play a dark defender, dark scrapper or a warshade. CoH has enough vampric heroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't particularily want a vamperic powerset or AT. -

The post seems to have disappeared... who's the imbecilidjiot, if you please, so I know who will be first ever on my ignore list?
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually the entire post didn't disappear, it was edited by CuppaJo to remove the totally uncalled for insult. the remainder of the post is still there. -

Batman has no powers and is therefor not a SUPERhero, he is just a hero. So naturaly he couldn't make it in a town where everyone else is SUPER. But Spidey can make it anywhere, he's proven it many times.

Except when he tried to join the Avengers awhile back and Capt. told him he wasn't in the same league as the Avengers, this is Captain America mind you, a guy qwho is peak human at best. At least he's in the Avengers now, hehe! -
[ QUOTE ]
Blasters have better final powers in each powerset (Primary and Secondary) than Scraps do. Although I guess some of those perma-MoGers and perma-Unstoppablers might argue with me. But have you guys seen Nova? Wish I could do that with my Scrapper.
[/ QUOTE ]
I wish you could too so you would see the downside. You wouldn't like it much when your endurance all goes away and you defensive toggels drop. Oh wait you sill have more HP's so you'd still likely survive. We need to be in Melee. After it is done the survivors, now with perma-argo on us, will vindicate their downed brethern, and we have 0 End and 0 Defences with low HP's. If your scrapper had the same issues/problems when they used it then you would sing a different tune. Full Auto is the one truely outstanding level 32 power.
BTW: This comes from a level 43 Energy/Energy Blaster. I've been using Nova for 11 levels, so ya I've seen it. I've also seen about 50/50 odds I'll face plant after. I have to admit lately that has changed to be more like 30% instead, mainly because I have become quite adept at Nova -> run -> pop a blue Insp. -
[ QUOTE ]
Whatever dude. Just because you dont think it should be there doesnt mean it shouldn't. Its the crown jewel of the Energy Secondary.
[/ QUOTE ]
According to Statesman assertation that we are Range Damages it isn't just MY opinion that it doesn't belong. And NO it isn't the crown jewel of EM. Conserve Power is, or at least was befor giving it to all the other AT's as APP. -
[ QUOTE ]
What MageStorm said. What the hell is wrong with you. ITS TOTAL FOCUS. Uberest of all uber, and my favorite attack except Full Auto. If you cant use it right, then learn how and love it. Absurd damage and a Mag 4 stun. Whats not to love? Its the ultimate Damage and CC power for bosses.
[/ QUOTE ]
Whats not to love is that it a s melee attack, that outshines our primary attacks. If States is correct, which I think he is, our jod is Range Damage. It has nothing to do with weather I 'Know how to use it" because I do. It has to do with the fact it doesn't belong as a blaster secondary (as I stated this my opinion and I also acknowledged I'd catch flack for it). I play a ranged damage character, that is why I went with Blaster, it is also why I refuse to take 4 out of 5 of the powers in my secondary set (this includes Total Focus and Bone Smasher). As I stated you should be able to (with the aid of PP's) to build a Blapper, I as a Blaster I shouldn't be penalized in my secondary by missing out on more than half of the powers so people can build an Aberant Blapper. If the AT was blapper then I'd expect to have to go out of the powersets to make a Blaster, it isn't though. I agree 2-3 Melee at the max, but more than this is punishing those who are playing the character the friggin AT is supposed to be. -
[ QUOTE ]
If changes are made to Blaster secondaries, such as adding new powers, please consider using the Kheldian model of power availability. What I mean is, Kheldians can unlock multiple powers from a primary or secondary set at the same time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Though this would be nice I really don't see it happening. The other four AT's would rightfully be upset. They made the Kheldians this way to avoid needing to make/test/ballance multiple powersets. Plus it makes the reward AT more unique. -
[ QUOTE ]
Answer - Ranged damage. Now, the issue is more specifically - what does a Blaster do that a Scrapper can't already do? Or, even worse, is a Scrapper inherently "stronger" than a Blaster. We want each Archetype to have a well defined role, and part of our Scrapper testing is aimed directly at this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for clarifying this, I have been saying our role was ranged damage for some time. People keep using the plethora of melee in our secondaries to argue against this.
[ QUOTE ]
Secondly, I have no intention of removing melee attacks - it's just a "perception" by some Blasters that some of the Secondary Sets aren't as useful as Devices or Energy Manipulation. This is a rather frequent refrain in PM's (and the occasional forum post). This is something that we should also explore...we want all the Secondary sets to be fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is sad! Does this mean you have no intention of removing "all" melee or "any" melee? I agree that we shouldn't loose all melee, but some secondaries need to have some melee attacks removed. You mention in the Blaster Damage thread that melee is something that blasters want to avoid but then make secondary sets, such as Fire and Energy, that practically force you into melee, not to mention the PBAoE level 32 powers which not only force melee range but make you very vulnerable after use. Please reconcider removing some of the melee powers. -
[ QUOTE ]
You're thinking of Haephestus. He didn't reflect the sole opinion of the Blaster community in any way.
[/ QUOTE ]
And neither do you, nor I nor any one person here. I am for less me;ee as well.
[ QUOTE ]
PLEASE do 1 of these:
--Give Blappers GOOD temporary defenses or debuffs
--Give Blappers temporary light StatusResists
--Remove the Damage-Cap on Blaster Melee
--Replace High-Aggro, Low-Damage, AoE Fields in the 2ndaries with something DEFENSIVE.
Or
--ADD Status Resists to those Low-Damage AoE fields.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is great, the AT is called BLASTER not BLAPPER. The thread is abouth BLASTER not BLAPPER. Yes you should be able to build a Blapper if you want, but the AT is still Blaster and shoud support that concept befor aberant concepts. The final analysis is we are supposet to be improving Blasters not:
Blappers,
Blankers,
Blattorllers,
etc... -
[ QUOTE ]
personally I think the blappers would be upset with losing their melee attacks. not everyone plays ranged blasters. Elec/Elcec especially.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem here is that the secondaries should allow Blapping but not moreso than supporting a regular blaster. Blaster is the AT and Blapper is an aberation build. Allowing these aberation builds is good, but enforcing them more than the core idea is going too far. -
[ QUOTE ]
How about losing Power Thrust, Stun, and Boost Range from the /Energy powerset and adding things that help more than a few power sets....maybe put some form defenses there. I like Energy Punch/Bonesmasher/Total Focus, but the three I mentioned are situational at best.(yeay yeah, some people use them, but most that I have seen have no use for them besides punching people 200 feet for fun at lvl 50)
[/ QUOTE ]
No Power Thrust is the best of the /Energy Melee. Why? Because it's designed to turn a melee situation into a ranged situation, therefor enforcing the range is our friend concept.
Boost range would help EVERY primary. One of the big complaints I see all over is that blasters don't have enough range. This power actually allows us to outrange some of the villains. Not to mention that unlike the melee attacks it is actually a SUPPORT power.
IMHO, keep power Thrust and Bonesmasher, kill off the other three and give more support powers. If you must keep another melee then keep Stun. Energy Punch doesn't do enough, with stun you get a better chance to disorient and therefore survival is improved.
I know I'll catch alot of flack for saying to off Total Focus. This is a great power, but I feel that the final power in a support powerset should be th ultimate in support not the ultimate in melee. Move Power Boost to the final position and up the durration and mabye increase the % boost. Allow it to boost Damage and/or Aim; whatever the Devs would choose to make it more powerful for the elevation to the tier 9 power. An option to removing TF could be put it as the tier 7 power and lower it some, then remove Stun instead of TF. -
[ QUOTE ]
Would anyone be up to giving up melee powers for status protection. Maybe nothing as huge as the Melee protection, but something to prevent the occasional mez attack.
I would not mind it, but I know some people love the melee attacks.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm all for it, but I think I've made my feelings on the excess melee quite clear in this and other threads. -
[ QUOTE ]
Thought I'd post a further explanation about the Blaster damage explanation in "Ask Statesman."
[/ QUOTE ]
I apprecaite your effort in keeping us informed.
[ QUOTE ]
That was - and is - the reason why Blaster damage is capped lower than Scrappers. I did forget to add that the ranged attacks of mobs deal less damage (typically) than melee attacks - and the Blaster is generally the target of raned attacks.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't quite see the reasonong here. We have been told that the Scrapper gets better Defence because of the higher risk involved in melee. How does the higher risk warrant more damage as well? It would seem to me that thay are being overly compensated for the "risk of melee" . The defences makes sence but the damage doesn't.
The scrapper description states that they are supposed to have defences almost as good as the tanker and offenses almost as good as the blaster (paraphrased here). As it stands they are barely below a Tanked defences and potentially better than a blaster in offence.
Also the ability to pick a target at range doesn't seem like such a great advantage. I have scrapper characters and they waste very very little time in movement during fights. I can still basically pick my target and they others usually come to me rather than me needing to move to them. Also some scrapper sets have a good selection of ranged/AoE attacks.
[ QUOTE ]
But many issues have come up - most notably, the perception that Blasters are too fragile at levels 35+. Their damage potential does not compensate for their low hit points.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes this is true, for several reasons. Most notably, the damage of range attacks seems to get moch closer to their melee counterparts the higher in level you go. Secondly, practically all enemies have the nice damage ranged attacks. Finally, they have better range than the blaster, especially at the high end game.
[ QUOTE ]
And, of course, there's the complaint that some Secondaries have too many melee attacks - something that the Blaster avoids at all costs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your statement about blasters and range would seem to validate these complaints. Don't get me wrong, I agree that their are way to many melee attacks in the ranged damage AT's secondaries, which are supposed to be support not melee. A few attacke (two or Three at the most) is fine but more than half is really uncalled for IMHO.
[ QUOTE ]
At the moment, Scrappers, and to a lesser degree, Tankers, are being analyzed. Once we establish a baseline, then we'll be in a better position to look at Blasters.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree, the arena testing is definatly showing the desparigy between the melee and the squishy AT's. The tanker and scrapper do need to be brough into the scope of the non-melee AT's, but the problem is that we keep beiong told "We'll take a look butit will have to wait for...". First is was after Controllers. Now it's after Contrlooers, Tankers and Scrappers. One omre, Defenders, and were right back to pre-issue 1 waiting list. At this rate it would seem that we will be waiting another 3 to 4 issues to "Be looked at..." I'm sure you can see how dis-heartening this is to the Blaster community.
I have been, and will continue to be, a staunch supporter of the Devs, you guys are amazing, but it doesn't stop me from feeling let down by all this.
Thanks for your time. -
[ QUOTE ]
Good thing we have non-tankers generous enough to keep stirring us up in forums discussing tanker issues.
(jeez, the sarcasm train is on the move tonight.. WOO WOO!)
[/ QUOTE ]
Tanker or not, they have a right to an opinion, they pay their $15 a month just like you. I play all the AT's and I value the input from each of them. Plus this guy seemed to be offering to help, no need to flame him for it. -
Thought of another one....
A SG alert. Allow a leader (or preferable configurable rank ability) a toggle ability to activate a SG alert. This would cause the SG symbol to flash on the SG Team members screen, placed in an un-obtrusive position so as to not anoy the player. Then the members who are avaliable can by going to the activating leaders position.
I could see this a crucial when base raids come into play. "Everyone to HQ were under attack". Think of it as our SG's version of the bat signal.
I realize you can put out a call in the SG chat channel but not everyone pays attention to that, expecially those of us who use Teamspeak. -
Most of the suggestions I have have already been poster several times so I'll only post the ones I haven't seen:
1) Som benifit for teaming with other SG members. I hate to here all the stories from people that say "Ya I'm in a SG but we never play together." It doesn't have to be a big bonus mabye a +1% DEF or something when in a team with a fello SG member. Anything that would encurage SG members to team, after all isn't this what an SG is about.
2) A unique rank for team founder. Alow them to promote/demote ANY member no mater what rank they are. Also no other member will be able to promote/demote/kick them. They founded the SG, noone should be able to take it from them. If they want the leader gone soooo bad then quit and reform under a new group.
Thats all right now but I may have more later. -
I have to disagree. Nova was intended to take ALL your END from the start, at least that is the way the description read. I play a Energy/Energy blaster and see very little difference in the use of my NOVA blast. I still do around the same damage and it usualy took all my end befor. I keep blue Insp for when I use Nova. No you cant regen end for awhile but one blue pill followed by Conserve Power keeps me going until I can regen END again. Don't blame the Power working the way it had always been intended for a lack of tactics on your part.
BTW: does your Nova blaster use Hasten? If so try a build that doesn't inherently require more end to begin with. Also what are your teammates doing to help while your temporarily down? If your trying to SOLO with a blaster then there is your problem. SOLO with a scrapper. I regularily use Nova and I do occasionally die but that is an understood limitation to the power. Nova wasn't nerfed it was fixed to mach it's intention. It isn't the end all be all power, no level 32 power is, you always take a chance when you use it, so think first.
